Transporting animals on a train requires compliance with many conditions: certificates are required, small animals are allowed to be transported only in a cage, and for a large dog you will have to buy the entire compartment. More information about transporting animals:

Compartment carriage

This carriage usually has 32 or 36 seats. In a compartment, the lower seats are odd and the upper seats are even. The compartments are isolated from each other and are locked. The compartment has a mirror, a table, hangers and hooks for clothes, as well as a night lamp for each passenger. In a single-decker carriage you can sit freely on the top bunk in the compartment, but in a two-decker carriage it is uncomfortable because the ceiling is low. There is a niche under the ceiling for luggage (available only in single-deck carriages).

Econom-class train

The carriage has 9 compartments with 6 berths each: two upper, two lower and two side. There are no doors between the compartments; they are all connected by a common corridor. All the lower places are odd-numbered, and the upper ones are even-numbered. Places 37 to 54 are “sides”, they are shorter than places in a block of four. Seats 33 to 38 are located near the toilet and may be uncomfortable. The reserved seat has a lot of space for luggage - there are compartments under the lower seats and third shelves. Due to the presence of a third shelf in the upper place in the reserved seat, it is uncomfortable to sit.

Car with seats

First grade. It is quite spacious here - there are usually three rows of seats. In total, this carriage has up to 48 seats. Each chair reclines to a reclining position. An LCD TV is often installed under the ceiling in the aisle. The carriage has air conditioning.

Car with seats (electric trains)

Such trains include “Swallows” and some express trains. First class is more comfortable than the others - there are fewer seats in the carriage, greater distance between the rows.

Luxury carriage (SV) and RIC (2-seater compartments)

The old designation for a luxury car was SV, which means “sleeping car.” It has 8-10 compartments with 2 berths, both located below. Sometimes there are suites with vertical seating. Each shelf resembles a soft sofa - there is a comfortable backrest for sitting. In terms of the level of service, a luxury car is better than a compartment car - a luxury car usually has a button to call the conductor, air conditioning, and on some trains there is also a TV.

RIC - international carriages. Usually they are a little better than those running within the country, since new cars are traveling abroad.

Soft

The soft carriage resembles a hotel room. Each compartment has 1 or 2 beds. If there are two seats, then the lower one is a soft sofa that converts into a bed 120 cm wide. The upper seat is 90 cm wide. The compartment also has a table and an armchair, and there may be a TV and a minibar. They provide you with a hot breakfast and a shower kit, bathrobe and terry towel.

General carriage

Usually this is a reserved seat carriage with three seats on each lower bunk. The side shelves are also used as seating.

"Sapsan"

This popular high-speed train runs between Moscow and St. Petersburg. In some sections it accelerates to 250 km/h and covers its route in 4 hours, which takes about 8 hours for a regular train. Sapsan also has an increased level of comfort. All Sapsan carriages have air conditioning and dry closets.

"Swift"

This is a high-speed train, a version of the Spanish Talgo 250 adapted for Russia. It runs between Moscow and Nizhny Novgorod. The carriages are distinguished by a higher level of comfort.

On December 17, 2016, the Swift departed on its first flight from Moscow to Berlin. In addition to 1st class seated and soft carriages, it also has compartment carriages.

Cars of the carrier "TKS"

TKS (ZAO TransClassService) is the largest private carrier. It does not have its own trains; under an agreement with JSC Russian Railways, it adds cars to the branded trains of JSC FPC. Today, more than one hundred and forty carriages of the company run from Moscow to sixteen destinations. These are compartment cars, luxury (SV) and several reserved seat cars. CJSC TKS has only new cars and offers many pleasant little things that the state carrier does not have.

Tverskoy Express LLC is a private passenger company founded in 2003. She owns the Megapolis train - it runs between St. Petersburg and Moscow and makes a stop in Tver along the way. In terms of comfort level, Megapolis is comparable to branded FPK trains. All train carriages are new, and the interiors are decorated in orange and blue colors.

The train is considered the most convenient and democratic way of transportation. Ticket prices are quite reasonable, and comfortable conditions have been created for passengers. This is justified when there is a long, many-hour journey ahead. What does a modern passenger carriage look like? What can you find inside, what types of cars do Russian Railways have? Classification and characteristics of Russian Railways passenger cars

Before purchasing tickets, customers must find out which compartments are available.

Modern passenger carriage

There are several types in Russian Railways:

Without sleeping places - the cabin resembles an economy class plane. The rows of seats are separated by one aisle in the middle. If the train is a commuter train, then the seats will be hard, if the train is interregional, the seats will be soft. However, such trains are not designed for long journeys.
The general carriage is the same reserved seat, but there people sit together in threes on the shelves below. The top ones are either not used or missing.
With sleeping places. This is a reserved seat carriage with open (no doors) compartments with 4 standard seats. Opposite, across the passage, two side ones. Luggage is stored underneath the lower shelves.
Compartment cars have 9 identical 4-seater compartments, each equipped with sliding doors. There are 4 separate seats inside, there is a luggage compartment (below, under the lower shelves).
Sleeping cars with increased comfort. They contain Luxury (or SV) compartments. There are also 9 identical compartments, but each has 2 seats, usually at the bottom. In many ways, the equipment is similar to compartment cars, just more comfort.
Premium class carriages. They are available on tourist trains. There are only 4-5 compartments in the carriage due to their large size. Inside, in addition to sleeping places, there can be armchairs, a bathroom (toilet, shower), TV, etc.
Double-decker cars are rarely found on Russian Railways trains. As a rule, these are luxury cars. Now they are available on trains traveling from Moscow to Voronezh, St. Petersburg and other cities. They allow you to carry more passengers, which affects the cost of the ticket.
Freight cars. They carry out cargo transportation throughout Russia. The equipment and appearance of the cars differ depending on the type of cargo they transport. If these are liquid substances, then there are special large containers for them (refrigerators). If the material is bulk, closed, sealed cars. For large cargoes, semi-open or open wagons are designed where the cargo can be secured. In addition to appearance, they differ in size, shape and load capacity.

Double-decker passenger carriages

This is the main classification common to all trains: high-speed, passenger, tourist. The details already depend on the carrier company itself. Russian Railways even have large, double-decker trains.

Types of passenger cars in Russian Railways

There are short letter designations for different types of cars. They are indicated on the ticket and are also available in the flight description on the website.

Important! The type of carriage compartment largely determines the cost of the ticket. In the northeast they are expensive, the cheapest ones are a reserved seat or a general one. All compartments are well heated, there is a radio and light, and linen is provided.

New Russian Railways carriages are more comfortable, even in ordinary compartments there are convenient shelves, the toilet is better equipped, the Internet works and there are sockets.

Coupe car

Features of the equipment of Russian Railways passenger cars

Russian railway companies - carriers who produce their own transport - are trying to re-equip the cars, introducing more individual features that might appeal to passengers. The main classes of carriages remained unchanged, but many nuances appeared in the design.

Non-compartment cars of different models

Passenger trains that do not have separate compartments are considered non-compartment trains. This is a general (category C) carriage compartment and a reserved seat. A common feature is the presence of seats where passengers sit as if on an airplane. However, the layout, conditions and location of seats on different trains may vary. You can navigate by letter abbreviations (general):

1C, 2C or 3C - usually 1-2 classes have air conditioning (not always), 3 - definitely not; the list of services offered additionally depends on the train itself (Sapsan, interregional);
1P - similar markings are found on new double-decker carriages, where the total cost of the purchased ticket includes meals, hygiene kit and the opportunity to ask for a blanket;
1B – a special compartment where you need to buy all available seats, convenient when traveling in groups, the price includes meals, individual hygiene kits and the press;
2P - suite, offering passengers increased comfort, there is air conditioning and its own dry closet, the price includes cold snacks;
2B and 3G – air conditioning is available/no question, there are definitely no additional services, but you can transport animals there;
2E is a regular sedentary suite, there is air conditioning, but a dry closet is questionable.

Econom-class train

The new reserved seat carriages also have a number of features. They belong to class 3:

3E – luxury reserved seat carriage, air conditioning, dry closet;
3T – there is air conditioning, but the dry closet is questionable;
3D – there is air conditioning, there is no guarantee of the presence of a dry closet, but the transportation of animals is allowed;
3U - resembles 3D, only air conditioning is not guaranteed;
3L – no air conditioning and dry closet.

Important! If the carrier is ZAO TKS, then 3U has a working air conditioner and dry closets. There are also sockets and video surveillance. However, transportation of animals is prohibited. Not all new reserved seat trains at Russian Railways are the same.

Interregional carriages of different models

Trains running within the country between regions. As a rule, they are designed for close and medium distances. There are high-speed trains such as Sapsan or Strizh and ordinary passenger trains.

Interregional carriages

The Sapsan train - all carriages are air-conditioned:

1P – separate compartment-meeting room, purchased in full, drinks, comfortable leather chairs, meeting room equipped with a modern projector;
1B – regular 1st class seat, without meeting room;
1C – business class, there are chairs, wardrobes, comfortable sleeping places; high-quality service, sockets, drinks, food ordered from the Menu;
2C – economy class, seated, with hangers, headphones, luggage compartment;
2B – “economy+”, it is more spacious, there is an outlet, a lunch box is available;
2E – seats in a special bistro car, you can buy a ticket via the Internet, meals are provided.

"Strizh" is a technically equipped modern train. Everywhere there is air conditioning, free drinking water, modern dry toilets, video monitors, and the train is always accompanied by security. Passengers have access to the following sockets:

1E – SV (VIP), coupe, sold as a whole, there are 2 separate seats, the upper shelf can be folded, and the lower one can be transformed into two comfortable chairs, increased comfort (bathroom, safe, TV, food), in addition, you can transport animals;
1E – resembles 1E, but you can purchase a ticket separately without buying all the compartments;
1P – 1st class, comfortable seated carriages, it’s convenient, the price includes meals and a hygiene kit;
2C – 2nd class, regular, seated trains.

Compartment carriages of different models

Most often, people prefer to take a coupe. There are amenities, and the ticket price is quite affordable. The characteristics of compartment cars of different trains have a number of distinctive features that can be identified in advance if you know the meaning of the designations:

2E - a new second-class car of Russian Railways, which implies increased comfort, there is air conditioning, in addition to the ticket, the price also includes meals, a hygiene kit, and you can transport animals if necessary;
2E (double-decker train) - resembles 2E on a standard train, but there are no hygiene kits and the latest press;
2B – reminiscent of 2E, only the presence of dry closets is questionable;
2K – air conditioning works and a dry closet is available, animals can be transported if necessary, additional services – only the provision of bed linen;
2U - resembles 2K, but there is no guarantee of the presence of a dry closet;
2L – standard conditions, additional services include only linen, it will not necessarily include a working air conditioner or dry closet, but animals can be transported if necessary;
2D - an ordinary compartment, but you don’t have to take linen, you can’t transport animals, and there’s no guarantee of air conditioning or a dry closet;
2T – if the carrier is TKS CJSC, then the company offers dinner/breakfast (to choose from), a hygiene kit, newspapers and slippers. The trains are well air-conditioned, there are dry toilets, an LCD monitor, sockets, even a safe. A playpen is available upon request. Animals cannot be transported.

Compartment carriage

In terms of dimensions, compartment trains are not too different from SV or reserved seat trains. The exception is 2-story new trains. Not only the dimensions, but also the layout of the compartment is different.

SV cars of different models

These are comfortable suites with spacious 2-seater compartments. They are always air-conditioned and the cost of linen is included in the total ticket price. Considered 1st class:

1B - real business class, having paid for a ticket, the passenger receives drinks, delicious food, the latest newspapers, an individual hygiene kit, a compartment is purchased, animals can be carried;
1E – reminiscent of 1B, only you can purchase a ticket, not the entire compartment;
1U – no additional services (except for linen), the level of comfort resembles 1st class and animals can be transported if necessary;
1L - aka SV, there are really no additional services, the carriage is air-conditioned, but the presence of a dry closet is not guaranteed, animals can be transported if necessary;
1B - or “business TK”, a similar composition is available on trains from the carrier TKS CJSC, where passengers will be offered a delicious dinner, a hearty breakfast, various drinks and separate hygiene kits, the latest newspapers, and linen. The suites are well air-conditioned, have showers, toilets, and TV.

All compartments are double, there are only 8-12 seats per carriage:

Important! When purchasing a ticket, it is better to find out all the details from the cashier in advance, so that the possibility of transporting animals or the lack of a dry closet does not become unpleasant news.

International carriages of different models

These are special RIC cars. From their drawings it is clear that there are 2-seater comfortable coupes and 3-seater ones:

2-seater – similar to luxury trains;
3-seater (2I) is a spacious three-seater compartment, where the shelves are all located vertically. There is an armchair, a small washbasin, and linen is provided.

In the Russian Federation there are several trains operating on long-distance international routes such as Moscow-Berlin or Moscow-Paris.

Double-decker carriages

The creation of tall, two-story suites was welcome news for passengers. Now they operate on several interregional routes. For example, Kislovodsk-Moscow or Moscow-Kazan.

Luxury carriage

The conductor remotely regulates the climate (temperature, humidity), can also administer the access system and manage the entire energy system.

Passengers have power sockets and a radio. You can catch stations yourself. The compartment, as usual, has 4 separate seats and a small folding table.

The disadvantage of such trains is that there are no third shelves on top; all luggage will have to fit below.

1. Seated carriage of a passenger train

The seated carriage is equipped with chairs for the movement of passengers in a sitting or semi-sitting position. The number of seats in the cabin may vary depending on the class of seating car. Traveling in a carriage of this type for long distances is extremely inconvenient and tiring. First of all, it is very difficult to sleep in a sitting position on the floor. We do not recommend that you travel in seated carriages on long routes.

2. Second-class passenger car

A reserved seat carriage has an affordable price and at the same time is quite comfortable for travel. That is why the reserved seat carriage is most popular among the population. A regular reserved seat carriage consists of 9 open compartments. The carriage has 54 sleeping places. Each compartment has 4 seats - two on the lower level and two on the upper level. In addition to the compartment, there are also 18 side seats: nine each in the upper and lower levels. All open compartments and side niches have folding tables and a special storage shelf under the ceiling. The lower tiers are equipped with special places for folding bags.

3. Compartment passenger car

The compartment car is equipped with nine four-seater compartments. With this car it is possible to transport 36 passengers. Each compartment is equipped with soft or hard sleeping berths. The compartment has two upper and two lower shelves, to which are attached soft backrests, a folding table, a ceiling lamp, special reading lamps, and a mirror on the front door. A specially equipped place for luggage is made under the sleeping shelves. In addition, there is also space for luggage in a niche located above the aisle of the compartment car. The main advantage that a compartment car has over other cars is that the compartment is locked from the inside. Therefore, passengers (4 people or less) traveling in it do not have to worry about the safety of their personal belongings and can sleep peacefully. Recently, Russian Railways has introduced an innovation in the form of so-called “women’s and men’s coupes.” Tickets for such compartments are sold only to representatives of the same sex. This feature does not affect the cost of a train ticket in any way. Seats 33-36 are located next to the toilet in compartment cars.

4. Luxury sleeping passenger car (SV)

Cars of the "Lux" type (SV) have 16 or 18 seats (two lower or lower and upper), the outermost single compartment is intended for the conductor. The sleeping car has 9 double compartments. According to the design conditions, 18 passengers can travel comfortably in the NE carriage at the same time. 5. VIP soft carriages (LUX)

The compartment of a luxury class carriage is 1.5 times larger than the standard one in a carriage with six compartments and 2 times larger in a carriage with four. The compartment has 2 sleeping places: a sofa that transforms into a single bed 120 cm wide, and an upper shelf 90 cm wide. The compartment has an armchair and a folding table.

Each compartment has an individual bathroom with a washbasin, a vacuum toilet, which functions even during stops, and a shower (in a carriage with four compartments there is a shower). The floor in the bathroom is heated.

Small animals are allowed to be carried in 3O carriages.

Second class

Up to 68 passengers can travel in the carriage. Usually has up to four rows of seats, less legroom. Reserved seat

The compartment has 4 lying shelves combined into a closed section. Bed linen is always provided and is paid for along with the ticket. A standard compartment car includes 36 seats - that's 9 compartments, each of which is locked. In a compartment, the lower seats are odd and the upper seats are even.

Each carriage has 2 bathrooms located at opposite ends. As a rule, the compartment has a mirror, a table, hangers and hooks for clothes, and a night lamp for each passenger. There is a niche under the ceiling for luggage, but only in single-deck carriages.

SV or RIC (2-seater coupe)

The SV or “sleeping car” runs throughout the country, but the RIC runs abroad, so it is more comfortable. Each shelf resembles a soft sofa with a comfortable backrest for sitting. Usually in SV and RIC there is a button to call the conductor, and sometimes a TV.

In the wagon 2B the level of comfort is generally similar to 2E, but most often passengers have to be content with an old-style bathroom.

If you see the marking 2K, which means pets are allowed. You can also count on air conditioning, a modern dry closet and bed linen.

IN 2U travel conditions are similar to 2K, but there is not always a dry closet.

IN 2L Pets are allowed, but there is no air conditioning or a modern toilet.

CJSC TKS also has a wagon with markings 2T. It means that passengers will be offered food, drinks, a travel hygiene kit, newspapers, bedding, and disposable shoes. The compartment car is designed for passengers with average income. It is more comfortable than a reserved seat, but not as comfortable as SV.

Luxury coupes are designed for two people. The entire carriage can accommodate no more than 20 soft seats. Passengers are always provided with bed linen and air conditioning is on.

In a marked carriage 1B Travel conditions are similar to business class. During the trip, guides will offer food, drinks, hygiene products, and newspapers. Small pets are allowed here. The entire section is being purchased in its entirety.

Luxury coupes are designed for comfortable travel. Accommodates 2 people.

In a soft class carriage 1A there are 4 compartments and a bar. Each compartment is equipped with a shower, individual washbasins, dry closets and chairs. Passenger seats are located one above the other. The upper shelf has standard dimensions, and the lower one, when unfolded, is wider - 1.2 m. The fare includes drinks, food and newspapers. You can only buy a section in its entirety, passengers - 2 adults and a child under 10 years old. You can take your pet on your trip.

1I similar to 1A, but there is no bar in the carriage. Another compartment takes its place.

Cars class 1M have 6 compartments, the level of comfort is the same as in previous versions.

1G- these are cars marked 1A, 1I, 1M in foreign trains. The carriage can accommodate up to 6 compartments, each of which can accommodate 3 passengers: 2 adults and a child, or an adult and 2 children.

The soft carriage is more comfortable and spacious than the first class carriage. Accommodates up to 12 people.

“Sapsan” also belongs to the first class of carriages.

1Р- this is a compartment-meeting room, it can only be purchased in full. Luxury service: a wide range of drinks, comfortable conditions for a business conversation, leather-covered chairs and other attributes of luxurious life.

1B- first class seat. The level of service is similar to the 1P carriage, but there is no special place for negotiations.

Wagon with markings 1C has business class comfort. Each shelf has an outlet, you can put things in the closet, order drinks and a hot lunch.

2C ideal for budget conscious travelers. You can sit at the table or do without it. The compartment has hangers for outerwear, and there are headphones next to each seat.

2B differs from 2C in wider aisles, the presence of an outlet at each chair, and access to wi-fi. Lunch will be served during the trip.

2E- this is a bistro car. Each passenger is provided with food worth up to 2000 rubles. A ticket for a carriage of this class can be purchased online no earlier than 24 hours before the train departs.
