– a famous thermal resort and a popular holiday destination at any time of the year. The water temperature in the lake does not drop below +24°C even in winter, and dozens of diseases of the musculoskeletal system, endocrine glands and lungs are indications for treatment with its thermal waters. If you are interested in treatment in Hungary and are looking for an answer to the question of how to get to Heviz, pay attention to both air transport and ground transfers.

Choosing wings

The closest settlement to the lake is a small town located five kilometers from the resort. The resort does not have its own airport, so you will have to fly to:

  • The Russian capital and Budapest are connected by direct regular flights of the Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air. Planes take to the skies from Moscow's Vnukovo Airport and land at Franz Liszt Airport. Passengers spend 2.5 hours on the way, paying 180 euros for a round-trip ticket.
  • The cheapest flights with transfers are Hungarians' neighbors, Austrian Airlines. A ticket on board Austrian Airlines will cost 185 euros, and excluding transfers, the journey will take you about 4 hours. The flight starts from .
  • The Poles don’t ask too much for their services either. The round trip will take 3.5 hours excluding transfers and will cost about 200 euros. LOT Polish Airlines operates its route from Sheremetyevo.

Residents of the northern capital will be able to get to Heviz and Budapest only with transfers. The cheapest option is to fly with Latvian airlines. For a ticket on board Air Baltic you will have to pay about 210 euros, the connection will be in . Flying via Aeroflot is more expensive and not very convenient, since you will have to change the airport in the capital. Turkish Airlines offers a transfer from St. Petersburg to Budapest with a single connection in. The price is from 245 euros for a round trip ticket.

To Budapest by land

If flying is not your favorite pastime, travel to Hungary by train or bus. The first option is the branded train "Polonaise" with a connection to Warsaw, starting daily from the Belorussky station of the Russian capital. The journey in a trailer carriage to Budapest takes 29 hours, and the cost of one full compartment ticket will cost 180 euros one way.
Buses remain the cheapest means of transportation, if you do not take into account special offers on air tickets and their prices from low-cost airlines. Buses from Moscow depart from Rizhsky Station; the route involves a transfer in the capital. Everything takes at least two days, which, combined with the price of 70 euros for a one-way ticket, casts doubt on the feasibility of this method of transfer.

How to get to Heviz from Budapest Airport

After landing in Budapest, head to the city railway station, from where trains depart for the city of Keszthely. Possible transfer options are taxi and public transport.
A taxi will cost about 20 euros and the trip will take no more than half an hour, since the airport and the city are only a few kilometers apart.
Buses operate from stops in front of all passenger terminals. If you decide to save every euro cent, choose the N200 route and pay 1.1 euros for a ticket. Private buses will charge one and a half euros for the transfer. AirportShuttle minibus services are even more expensive. After checking in at the company counters in the arrivals hall, you will pay approximately 6 euros for a transfer with them.
From the Deli station, where the Budapest metro can help you get there (the desired station is called Déli pályaudvar and is the terminus of line 2), you can take any of several trains heading towards Lake Heviz several times a day. Tickets to Keszthely cost about 11 euros. You can book them on the official website of the Hungarian Railways – www.mavcsoport.hu. The site has a lot of useful information for passengers and train schedules, among other things. There is an English version.
In Keszthely you will have to take a bus to Heviz, which covers a distance of 5 kilometers in a few minutes and 1 euro.
It is much more convenient to go from Budapest to Heviz by bus using the services of the Volanbusz company - you do not have to make transfers. In the capital you will have to find a bus station, located at Könyves Kálmán körút 17. You can get to the station by trains of the blue line of the M3 metro. The station you need is Népliget. There are also trams routes 1 and 1A and city buses routes 103, 254, 901, 914 and 950. The cost of a ticket to the resort of Heviz is 12 euros, and the journey will take about 4 hours. You can get acquainted with the conditions for transporting passengers by the bus company, find out the schedule and buy a ticket on the official website of the carrier - www.webelin.volanbusz.hu.
European transport companies provide excellent service for travelers during their trip:

  • All buses are equipped with air conditioning and multimedia systems, dry toilets and machines for preparing hot drinks.
  • Passengers can take large luggage on board thanks to the spacious cargo compartments.
  • Each seat is equipped with an individual power outlet for charging phones and other electronic equipment.

A car is not a luxury

Not the most boring way to get to Heviz is to travel by your own car. The capital and the famous Hungarian resort are separated by approximately 2,150 km, and if you wish, you can overcome them in just a day.
An important note that is worth paying attention to is compliance with traffic rules when traveling across countries. Fines for their violation in the Old World are quite significant for the family budget.
To drive on toll roads in some countries, a special permit is required. It is called a vignette, costs approximately 10 euros for 10 days for a passenger car in each country where it is needed, and is sold at gas stations and checkpoints at border crossings.
You can find out whether a vignette is needed when driving through Hungary on the website www.autotraveler.ru. It also contains a lot of useful information about European traffic regulations, parking, gasoline prices in different countries and the location of toll roads and their sections.

All prices in the material are approximate and are given for April 2017. It is better to check the exact cost of travel on the official websites of carriers.

Other routes in Europe:

Hungary is rich in thermal resorts, but Lake Heviz has a special place among them. The healing properties of the water in the lake made it a popular resort among Europeans 200 years ago. Here they treat diseases of the joints, spine, nervous system, skin, and restore after injuries. For a therapeutic effect, you need to stay at the resort for at least 2 weeks. How to organize an independent holiday on Lake Heviz in Hungary? Will a trip without a ticket be cheaper than a tour, or will it not be possible to save money? When to go and how to get there?

There is entertainment in Heviz, and attractions in the neighboring towns near Lake Balaton. But most tourists come not to admire the beauty, but for health. Many are on crutches and in wheelchairs. For people with disabilities, everything at the resort is thought out and convenient.

They don’t swim or swim in the lake - they “hang out” on inflatable rings here so as not to overload the heart. Heviz is categorically not recommended for children under 12 years of age; there are contraindications for adults as well - radon in the water has a strong effect on the body.

Of course, the hotels have swimming pools with regular and thermal water, there are excellent spa treatments and wellness centers, it’s nice to walk around the town, and the restaurants offer amazing cuisine and wine. But Budapest and other cities have all this, and Lake Heviz is unique.

Should you go to Lake Heviz on your own or buy a tour?

Since the early 2000s, Russians have flocked to Heviz, mainly on tours. The resort gradually rebuilt itself from German guests to Russian-speaking ones. If you don’t know Hungarian and English, you won’t get lost in Heviz: in hotels, restaurants, and hospitals they speak Russian. Doctors will understand you and give you treatment programs in Russian.

It’s easy to come to Heviz on your own without a travel agency:

  1. buy a plane ticket;
  2. get a Schengen visa.

Will the trip be cheaper? This depends on the thoroughness of the preparation. For example, with Wizz Air you can find round-trip tickets from 4,500 rubles, but to do this you need to track prices. Apartments in Heviz, as in other cities of Hungary, are more profitable than hotels, but not all are represented in popular booking systems; prices are lower on Hungarian and German sites, starting from 10 euros.

But you won’t be able to save on treatment: prices for visiting the lake are official, and paying “into the doctor’s pocket” is not accepted. The pond is fenced on all sides, even if you do not need procedures. To “just take a dip” you have to pay.

Some prices for 2017

  • Ticket to the lake for 3 hours - 2,600 HUF;
  • Unlimited time ticket for 1 day - 4,500 HUF;
  • Subscription for 10 hours, valid for 10 days in a row, you can enter the lake 2 times a day - 7500 HUF;
  • 20-hour subscription for 20 days, entrance to the lake 2 times a day - 14,000 HUF;
  • For citizens over 60 years of age (3 hours). Upon presentation of an identity card - 2100 HUF;
  • Relax ticket for 4 hours with a visit to the lake and wellness center - 4000 HUF;
  • Doctor's appointment with health assessment + follow-up examination - 8500 HUF;
  • Underwater exhaust 20 min. — 4000 HUF;
  • Mud application 20 min. - 4500 HUF.

Best time to go to Heviz

The resort welcomes guests at any time of the year. In summer, the water in the lake is very warm - up to +36 degrees, in winter it cools down to +22. The coldest, windiest and least sunny month is February. At this time, housing prices are at their lowest.

All advertising brochures say that you can always swim in the lake. This is true. But in winter it is not very comfortable to swim from the part covered with a glass cover into an open body of water; the temperature contrast is for the hardened. If you walk through the passages from the building to the descent into the lake in a swimsuit, then it feels like walking naked on the beach in winter Sochi.

In the closed part of the lake, the water concentration is weaker. Hotels have thermal pools, but the composition of the water is different. It is better to find out whether it has medicinal properties or not from a doctor who usually works at the hotel.

You can look at the weather and situation in Heviz using the city webcam broadcast on the official website.

  • Pay attention to warning signs on the lake, near mineral water pump rooms and to the advice of doctors to avoid health complications;
  • Children under 6 years old have free entry to the lake; there is a playroom, playground and swimming pool for them. Children from 12 years old are allowed into the wellness center and saunas;
  • On the territory of the bathhouse there is a restaurant that is open in the summer, rental of swimsuits and swimming rings, outdoor exercise equipment, a salt room, free sun loungers;
  • If you bought a one-time ticket to Lake Heviz and did not use it, then it disappears - you cannot return it or go on another day.

A lot of useful up-to-date information in Russian on the official website of the Heviz resort - everything about the healing properties of water, a map, city news, hotel offers. Here you can find out more about the tourist map Hévíz Card+, which gives discounts on entry to attractions, lake visits, transfers and other services.

How to get from the airport to Heviz on your own

The airport adjacent to Heviz accepts flights only from Germany, and only from April to October. Russian tourists mainly fly to Budapest.

You can get from Heviz (190 km) without stopping in Budapest by a pre-booked car or taxi. For example, www.busexpress.hu offers a price of 79 euros for a group transfer and 119 euros for an individual transfer. There is a Russian language page for ordering.

Public transport from Budapest runs frequently, and you can leave from 4 a.m. to 12 p.m. A train or bus arrives in the town of Kasthely, 5 km from Heviz, from where city buses constantly run to the resort. The road to Kasthely will take 3.5 - 4 hours. Buses depart from the Nepliget bus station, trains from the East and South stations of Budapest. Tickets cost from 3,400 forints.

If you fly to Bratislava, plan on traveling to Heviz for at least 6-7 hours.

Budapest - Heviz: how to get there - this is the question asked by most tourists who fly to the Hungarian capital in order to move to the unique thermal lake. In fact, there are not so many answer options, but I will talk about all of them in this article. I’ll also tell you how you can save money if you order a transfer from Budapest to Heviz. Let's talk about everything in order.

There are two main ways to get from Budapest to Heviz

  1. By bus.
  2. By car.

If everything is clear with the first method (buy a ticket, get on the bus and go in the right direction), then the second has a number of nuances. I will definitely dwell on each below.

From Budapest to Heviz by bus

Buses from Budapest to Heviz depart from Budapest Nepliget bus station and go straight to Heviz bus station, from where you can walk to almost any hotel and apartment in the resort. There are more than 10 flights per day from the Hungarian capital to the thermal lake (from early morning to late evening), the travel time is about 2.5 hours. See the schedule on the website menetrendek.hu, but it is only in English.

The cost of a bus ticket from Budapest to Heviz starts from 3,700 forints (about 12 euros). You can buy a ticket at the Nepliget bus station, and it is also sold online. The carrier’s website (I’ll give you the English version right away) is volanbusz.hu/en. Select the Domestic tickets tab.

If you don’t know how to buy a ticket online, write in the comments. If there are many requests, I will write an article or make a video instruction on buying bus tickets online.

The buses on Hungarian roads are excellent: large and comfortable, most have Wi-Fi.

Now about the discounts. Children under six years of age and pensioners over 65 years of age can ride the route Budapest - Heviz for free. However, in the latter case, free travel is only provided to older people who have Hungarian citizenship or citizenship of any other EU country. In general, share your experience, who traveled to Heviz by bus, and who managed to get what kind of discount.

Children aged 6 to 14 years and students can get a 50% discount on tickets. Again, it is not known for certain whether foreign students (for example, Russian) who hold an ISIC card can count on a discount. The carrier’s website does not mention them, but one of the readers said that he traveled on an intercity bus using ISIC at a discount.

The bus ticket price includes hand luggage and two pieces of luggage. There is a special compartment for suitcases.

From Budapest to Heviz: train + bus

Almost everywhere, the alternative to bus service is the train, but in the case of Heviz the option is not entirely convenient. Although I myself would choose it, since I love trains more than buses.

The main disadvantage of this method is that you cannot get directly to the resort town by train - there is no railway to Heviz. But you can buy a train ticket on the route Budapest - Keszthely, and from there take a bus to Heviz. Keszthely and Heviz are only six kilometers from each other. I personally rode a bicycle from one city to another several times.

Trains to Keszthely leave from Budapest South Railway Station (Déli pályaudvar). Travel time is 3 hours 20 minutes. At least five trains leave per day, usually more. You can buy a ticket at any train station in Budapest - at the ticket office or from the machine (). I recommend buying tickets on the Hungarian Railways website - how to do it (don't forget to like the video if it was useful). The ticket price is the same for all flights - 3,700 forints (II class carriage).

Upon arrival at Keszthely train station, you need to go to the bus station, which is 100 meters away. The bus takes 15 minutes to Heviz, the cost of a full ticket is 400 forints.

The bus station in Heviz is located on Deák tér square.

As I already wrote, from here to your hotel/apartment you'll have to go on your own, since there is no public transport in the town. True, you can take a taxi.

Budapest – Heviz: how to get there by car

If you want to get from Budapest to Heviz even faster, then a car will help you. The options are as follows:

  1. Come with your own car/rent one.
  2. Order a group/individual transfer.

If you drive your own car or rent one, then the issues of toll roads and parking in Budapest, Heviz and other Hungarian cities that you plan to visit will be relevant to you. Separate articles are devoted to them: about, about and other cities.

The distance from Budapest to Heviz is 190 kilometers. If you drive on the toll highway. For those who like to save money and do not want to buy an electronic vignette, the distance will increase to 200 kilometers. Is it true, the savings will be doubtful, because for the difference in kilometers you will have to pay with gasoline, which in Hungary costs euros and kopecks per liter. And don’t forget about time: the journey in the first case will take about two hours, in the second – a little more than three.

Autobahns in Hungary are just what you need: at least two lanes (there are sections with three and even four lanes) with perfect coverage. Turn on the cruise control at 130 km/h (the maximum speed limit on the autobahn) and go.
