Changes in the rules for carrying hand luggage at Aeroflot. Can I take an umbrella in hand luggage? Hand luggage folding umbrella

On February 15, 2018, Aeroflot began strictly checking the size, quantity and weight of hand luggage. The hand luggage of all passengers is now not only counted and weighed, but also placed in a calibrator - a measuring frame.

Depending on the airport, they may be checked several times: at check-in, before passport control and at the boarding gate.

According to the airline's explanations, this measure was introduced due to complaints from passengers that hand luggage was being passed through unchecked and there was not enough space for things on board.

Latest changes to Aeroflot's hand luggage rules in 2018

  • checking the weight, dimensions and amount of hand luggage for all passengers;
  • the dimensions of hand luggage were increased by 5 cm - up to 55x40x25 cm;
  • in hand luggage you can carry musical instruments up to 135 cm in total dimensions and a guitar of any size;
  • a camera, laptop, book and umbrella are now included in the main (and not additional, as before) hand luggage and are also subject to weighing.

A laptop, camera, book and folding umbrella now need to be packed inside the main piece of hand luggage. You can put your phone in your pocket. The umbrella cane must be checked in as luggage.

You can put things in the frame on either side, but if the wheels or handle are sticking out, you will have to check them in as luggage (if you exceed the limit, you will have to pay extra). They can check at check-in, before passport control and before the boarding gate.

How many things can you check in for free at Aeroflot?

Aeroflot has a piece luggage system. 1PC or 2PC on a ticket means how many pieces of baggage of a certain weight you can check in. In business class you have two seats - 32 kg each, in Comfort and Economy Premium - two seats of 23 kg, in other Economy fares - one seat 23 kg.

The maximum dimensions for free baggage are 158 cm in the sum of length, width and height. Anything that does not fit in is checked in at excess baggage rates.

Is it possible to add up the weight and size of luggage?

If you are flying with your family, friend or colleague on the same ticket, you can combine the allowed weight of free baggage. That is, a husband and wife have the right to check in suitcases weighing 20 and 26 kilograms instead of two weighing 23 kilograms without additional payment, or distribute the weight in another way. But there is a limitation: each suitcase must be within 32 kg.

For two people, 158 + 158 = 316 cm is the sum of length, width and height. This means that you can check in one bag measuring 203 cm and a second bag measuring 113 cm free of charge in the luggage compartment. A bag larger than 203 cm cannot be shared.

How much does it cost to pay extra for overweight and oversized luggage at the airport?

Baggage that exceeds the free allowance in terms of the number of pieces, weight and dimensions is rented for an additional fee. On flights within Russia you will have to pay from 2,500 to 7,500 rubles, depending on what and how much is exceeded. For example, you will pay 2,500 rubles if you keep within 32 kg. Surcharge on international flights - from 50 to 200 euros. Baggage from 32 to 50 kg and more than 203 cm in the sum of three dimensions can only be transported by agreement with the airline.

What cannot be carried in Aeroflot checked baggage

UIA Infants under 2 years old can travel sitting on the lap of one of the parents. In this case, the infant must purchase a ticket without a seat at a special price with a 90% discount on the full cost of the selected fare and without airport taxes. Such a ticket must be issued in the adult’s booking, to which the ticket for the infant is “linked”. If one adult is flying, but with two children under the age of 2, then for the second child, parents need to buy a ticket with a seat at a special discount. Its size will depend on the conditions of the chosen tariff, approximately 25%, but it is worth considering that it may not exist. For such a flight, the parent must provide a car seat for the child. It can also be used for a child under 3 years of age or more, but provided that the child’s weight does not exceed 18 kg. Maximum seat dimensions of a car seat: 42x42 cm (16.5x16.5 inches) with the mandatory presence of belts for fixation. The airline provides baby bassinets on long-haul UIA flights on board Boeing-767 and Boeing-777 aircraft in all classes of service. As the number of tubes is limited, an adult must request this service in advance when booking a ticket. The child can be transported on board the aircraft in any type of stroller. On the plane, large strollers are checked in as baggage. Upon arrival, it will be issued upon exiting the plane. Carriage of strollers for up to 2 infants as cargo is free, otherwise you will be charged at the excess baggage rate. If the size of the stroller does not exceed the carry-on baggage allowance, it can be transported in a luggage rack instead of one piece of carry-on baggage. The airline refuses to transport women in labor and newborns in the first 7 days after birth, as well as if the onset of childbirth is expected in the next 7 days before the day of transportation. Turkish Airlines Turkish Airlines offers reduced fares for children aged 8 days to 2 years. The size of the discount depends on the route and date of travel. Children aged 2 to 7 days are allowed on board the aircraft if they have a medical certificate confirming that “There are no reasons why flights would be contraindicated for this patient.” However, children under 48 hours of age are not allowed on airline flights. Infants may only travel if accompanied by an adult over 18 years of age. An adult can only accompany 1 child. Turkish Airlines flights offer several additional services for passengers with small children, in particular, dedicated check-in counters for the flight. Infants who travel on a caregiver's lap are secured with a special infant seat belt. The guardian may request a separate seat for the infant. In this case, the child must be placed in a carrycot, which should be placed on the airplane seat. The dimensions of the carrycot must be 40x40 cm. If a passenger requests a separate seat for an infant, a ticket will be issued at a reduced child fare without an additional fee for the carrycot. Baby strollers on Turkish Airlines flights can only be carried in the cargo hold of the aircraft. The baby can be transported on a trolley to the entrance of the aircraft, and then the stroller can be handed over to the staff. At the end of the flight, the staff will unload the stroller and hand it over to an adult. Turkish Airlines flights offer 2 types of fruit and vegetable baby food in glass jars. It can be ordered at the time of booking or up to 24 hours before departure. For those passengers who...

- a question that interests passengers of many airlines. People do not always understand what belongs to this category of luggage, what items can be taken into the cabin, and what is better to leave at home or check in with regular cargo.

What is the essence?

First, let's look at what is considered hand luggage on an airplane. This is a special type of baggage that is allowed to be taken into the cabin of an airliner. It has its own rules and regulations for transportation, depending on the rules of the airline. For example, economy class passengers receive one seat, and business class and 1st class passengers receive twice as many.

It is believed that the equivalent of one place is a bag or backpack containing personal belongings. This is wrong. The main criterion is the weight of hand luggage and its dimensions. It is these parameters that the carrier is based on. Such baggage is subject to a number of restrictions, which may vary.

General prohibitions

Before checking in for a flight, it is important to be clear about what you cannot take on the plane. Generally speaking, the category of prohibited cargo includes weapons, liquefied gases, as well as dangerous substances (radioactive, toxic, caustic). The category of prohibited items also includes explosives, liquefied gases, sharp objects, including household appliances such as wire cutters, a corkscrew, scissors, a folding knife and others.

Below we will consider in detail what you can take in hand luggage on a plane, and what items are prohibited in relation to food, cosmetics, medicines, digital equipment and other cargo.

Food

First, let's look at what you are allowed to carry. from food. As a rule, airlines restrict passengers in this matter by prohibiting the carriage of jelly-like and liquid foods. But you can take with you:

  • Nuts.
  • Fruits.
  • Sandwiches.
  • Cookie.
  • Chips and other products.

If you are flying with a child, you are allowed to take baby food. If jellies, juices or yoghurts are found before departure, they will most likely be prohibited from being carried. This also applies to food that is packaged in cans. Those products that are allowed to be brought on board are recommended to be packed in transparent bags, which speeds up the inspection procedure.

Before departure, pay attention to the carrier's requirements, as they may vary. Pay special attention to goods from DutyFree stores. They are allowed to be taken on the plane, but only if they are packaged in a bag and have a receipt in hand.

Cosmetical tools

Women often ask what they can take with them. from cosmetics. As a rule, carriers allow you to bring into the cabin:

  • Blush.
  • Eyeliner.
  • Shadows.
  • Powder and other means.

As for jelly-like compositions, as well as liquids that are packaged in containers larger than 0.1 liters, it is prohibited to take them with you. The only option is to transfer your items to checked luggage. In addition, it is not permitted to bring pressurized cans into the cabin. In this case, the total volume of liquids carried should not exceed 1000 ml. This nuance should be taken into account before departure.

Medical supplies

An equally important issue is medications. The following medications are allowed as hand luggage:

  • Pills.
  • Hydrogen peroxide.
  • Materials for dressing.
  • Various drops.

All products should be sealed and carried with instructions for use. Otherwise, customs officers may have questions for the passenger, up to and including the need to conduct a detailed inspection. If there is an injury, hand luggage can be supplemented with special means for movement, for example, crutches. Regarding the upper limit of liquids, the same rules apply here as mentioned above.

Digital equipment

According to air carrier rules, you can take digital equipment on board the plane - a laptop, player, tablet, camera, charger and even a hairdryer. But there is a limitation regarding mobile phones. It can be brought into the cabin, but must be turned off. This is due to safety concerns, as radiation from mobile devices can interfere with the operation of aircraft electronics.

If you plan to carry large equipment with you that exceeds the permissible dimensions, it is better to check it as regular luggage.

What to do with documents and jewelry?

According to airline rules, you are allowed to take valuables, jewelry, wallets and important documents with you in hand luggage. You also need to take your passport with you so as not to accidentally end up in a foreign country without documents. There are situations when luggage does not fit on one plane and then it can be sent on the next flight.

Clothing and personal care items

When it comes to personal hygiene items, you can bring a toothbrush and toothpaste, a comb (without a handle), wet wipes and even nail polish remover on board the plane. At the same time, it is prohibited to take cutting or piercing things into the salon. This rule also applies to nail scissors.

From clothes you can take with you a coat, a jacket (sweater), an umbrella, a blanket and a shawl. Generally speaking, it is allowed to take almost all clothing if it does not contradict the airline’s rules and does not exceed the permissible standards (dimensions, weight).

What are the weight and size restrictions?

Separate question - How much hand luggage can you take on a plane?. Here, each airline has its own rules, which depend on the destination, ticket price, flight class and other factors. There are only two main criteria, namely size and weight:

  • Dimensions. They should not exceed 56 cm in length, 46 cm in height, and 25 cm in width.
  • Weight. Requirements vary here and different airlines may have limits ranging between 3 and 15 kg.

Results

Despite some similarity in the requirements of air carriers regarding hand luggage, some rules are strictly individual. For example, low-cost airlines that provide budget flights are stricter about hand luggage and allow you to take a minimum of things into the cabin. There is a maximum of one seat per person. More established companies will have fewer restrictions. In any case, it is important to clarify these points in advance, even before purchasing a ticket and checking in for the flight.

Russia is the biggest country in the world. Therefore, many residents of our state have to travel significant distances on business trips, to meet with friends and relatives, or for tourist trips. To save time when traveling, it is customary to use the fastest mode of transport - an airplane. Considering the changeable weather and different climates in the constituent entities of the federation, an umbrella is an invariable attribute of a traveler. Its transportation is not prohibited by Russian legislation on the carriage of passengers on airplanes. However, passengers often encounter refusal when trying to place it among their personal belongings.

At the moment, there are two ways to transport such objects: in the luggage compartment of an aircraft compartment or in its cabin as hand luggage. By definition, there is no problem placing an umbrella in one of your luggage suitcases. But upon arrival, the luggage does not immediately appear with the owner. And in case of bad rainy or snowy weather, an umbrella can be useful to its owner much faster. Therefore, there is a need to take it into the aircraft cabin. The airline baggage and hand luggage rules and federal regulations do not provide a clear answer to the implementation of this opportunity. Therefore, the question arises whether it is possible to take an umbrella in hand luggage on an airplane.

Federal Passenger and Carry-on Baggage Regulations

Each airline sets its own rules for the carriage of hand luggage in aircraft cabins. The company's documents, available on airport websites and stands, indicate the size of the items being transported. The standard dimensions are as follows: 55 cm – length, 40 cm and 25 cm – height. The total size of equipment that can be carried as hand luggage is 120 cm. However, individual companies can approve their own rules, slightly changing these standards. The Utair company defines the height of the item as 20 cm and the overall size as 115 cm. An important criterion is also the weight of the product. You can carry items weighing no more than 10 kg into the aircraft lounge. When purchasing a Business Class ticket, airlines often add a preference in the form of an additional five kilograms.

Important! The criteria for classifying an item as hand luggage are set in the position for 1 piece. When purchasing a second or third ticket, the passenger has the right to carry additional items in the aircraft cabin.

If umbrellas meet all the criteria for dimensions and weight, the company in certain cases has the right to refuse to transport them outside the luggage compartment. Due to the increasing frequency of accidents at airports and during flights, passenger safety measures have been strengthened. This applies to transported items. The items must not pose a risk to airline customers. Products with prickly ends or unsafe knitting needles will not be accepted by the airport service. You also cannot carry umbrellas with a long cane, like beach umbrellas, next to you. They can be used as strong sticks and cause harm to others.

Whether you can take an umbrella into the cabin also depends on the route the plane is flying. On longer or international flights, security measures are tightened. Therefore, the same airline sets different requirements for carried items.

Important! The size requirements apply to all items. If you have to take an umbrella with you, then the passenger does not have the right to carry any other item besides it. It is recommended to buy a small folding version for your trip. Otherwise, you can use the possibility of 115-120 cm and 10-15 kg for several accessories.

Carrier representatives take the calculation of transported items seriously. At the entrance there are scales - special measuring devices that calculate the length, width and height of each accessory down to the centimeter. Aeroflot employees especially carefully monitor compliance with the dimensions.

How to transport an umbrella

Most airlines have a list of items that can be taken into the premises free of charge in excess of the established standards. The umbrella is not included in this list. Therefore, it cannot be kept separately on or near the passenger seat, but must be packed in a bag or suitcase. Previously, an ordinary umbrella could be attached to other things for free. Since February 2018, taking into account new flight safety rules, airlines began to remove this item from the specified list.

Important! The passenger is obliged to comply with the requirements of the Aeroflot security service. If he refuses to do this, then the police have the right to remove the offender from the flight.

Rules for carrying an umbrella on airlines

Airlines have the authority to set their own rules for carrying hand luggage. Despite the legislation on passenger transportation, the instructions of the carriers themselves are often contradictory.

The Czech Airlines company directly indicates that the parapleu is placed exclusively in the luggage compartment.

The Utair airline specifies standard principles for including cargo in hand luggage. However, the problem of transporting an umbrella is solved if a child under two years of age participates in the trip. In this case, he is provided with a separate seat, and his belongings are packed exclusively in the cabin.

Similar transportation requirements have been established by RusLine.

Aeroflot PJSC, when purchasing a business class ticket, gives the client the opportunity to carry items weighing up to 15 kg instead of the required ten.

Airlines S7 also offers customers a bonus - bringing an umbrella as personal luggage when purchasing a business class ticket. In this case, the weight of the bag or suitcase carried should not exceed 15 kg. The bag can contain any item, except those that are dangerous.

Pobeda Airlines currently offers the best conditions for transporting passengers. This Russian carrier has established different rules for the transportation of items from other companies. In addition to a standard suitcase weighing ten kilograms, Pobeda allows you to bring personal belongings into the aircraft cabin. The company's instructions state that an umbrella should be considered personal belongings.

Important! After February 1, 2018, Pobeda Airlines is the only carrier that allows umbrellas to be carried as hand luggage.

Carrying umbrellas in the aircraft cabin is an important practical issue. It is impossible to collect luggage in the first minutes after landing. However, when leaving the plane, passengers can often be caught off guard by rain or snow. Therefore, an essential item when flying is an umbrella, which should be at hand. Most airlines do not allow you to bring it into the cabin. In this case, it is recommended to pack it and put it in a bag or backpack. You cannot take with you products with a long or sharp cane or knitting needles. Then the security service may not let through not only the cargo, but also the passenger himself.

In 2017, new rules for carrying hand luggage on an airplane were released. We advise you to carefully read the list of what you can take in hand luggage and what not if you are going on an air trip. Unfortunately, ignorance of such subtleties can ruin your holiday.

Food

You can bring any food on board the plane, with the exception of liquid and jelly-like food. You can take with you: nuts; cookie; fruits; sandwiches; chips, etc. You can take baby food for your child. But refrain from yoghurts, juices, jellies and similar products, otherwise they will be confiscated from you. Canned food and food in jars will also be taken away. It is better to pack all permitted products in transparent bags. This will significantly speed up the inspection.

It is important to take into account the specifics of the carrier and the airport. So, at the Paris airport. Charles de Gaulle is prohibited from bringing cheese in hand luggage. You can also take Duty Free products with you. The main thing is that the store packaging remains undamaged (the seller must pack the goods in a special bag with a capacity of 2 liters). In addition, keep the receipt - it may be required when going through control.

Medicines

You can bring the following medications on board the plane: tablets; various drops; dressings; hydrogen peroxide.

It is better if the medicines are in undamaged original packaging, with instructions for use. Otherwise, when boarding, customs officers may suspect whether you are carrying prohibited substances under the guise of analgin.

If you have an injury, you may want to add crutches or other orthopedic aids to your carry-on luggage. According to the rules, the volume of liquid in hand luggage should not exceed 100 ml. Therefore, if the medicine is liquid or in spray form, make sure that the volume does not exceed the permitted amount. You cannot take syringes on board.

Digital technology

What technical devices you can take on board are determined by the safety regulations of the country you are traveling to. Usually you are allowed to take in hand luggage: a laptop; tablet; mobile phone; Mp3 player; camera; electric razor and toothbrush; charging for devices; bulk electrical appliances (for example, hair dryer).

You can (and should) also take headphones on board. If you are going to listen to music or watch a movie on your laptop, it is unlikely that other passengers will be happy to share this pleasure with you. Although it is not prohibited to take a mobile phone with you, you may not need it during the flight. Often before takeoff, you are asked to turn off your phones altogether, because they can interfere with the operation of the aircraft’s electronic systems.

If you are going to take bulky equipment with you, remember the regulations. Typically, the length of items in hand luggage should be no more than 56 cm, height - 45 cm, width - 25 cm. The maximum weight varies between 3-15 kilograms. The exact figure depends on the airport.

Documents, valuables and jewelry

In addition, you should take in your hand luggage: expensive jewelry; documentation; valuables; Wallet with money.

It’s better to take your passport and other important papers with you - it’s calmer, you won’t have to worry about their safety the whole way. Moreover, if your luggage is suddenly lost, you will not be left in a foreign country without documents.

Cosmetical tools

You can bring any dry cosmetics on board: eye shadow; mascara; eye and lip pencils; blush; powder, etc.

Liquids, jelly-like substances in cans and bottles with a volume of more than 100 ml are strictly prohibited from being transported on board an aircraft in hand luggage. Pack them in your luggage, otherwise you risk being left without your expensive jars. You can't carry pressurized cans on an airplane either. Therefore, you will have to get rid of shaving foam and deodorants.

Remember that usually the total volume of liquids should not exceed 1 liter. Therefore, if you also take water with you in addition to lotion and shampoo, and their total volume exceeds the permissible limit, think about what will be more important to you on board.

Personal hygiene items

Personal hygiene items you can take in hand luggage:

a toothbrush and toothpaste (although you need to clarify about the latter - at some airports it is prohibited to take toothpaste with you); wet wipes; Shaver; a comb without a sharp handle (sometimes it is prohibited to carry metal combs); nail polish remover without acetone with a volume of no more than 100 ml.

Cloth

You can take with you to the salon: a jacket or sweater; coat; plaid; shawl.

Additionally, you can bring a handbag, an umbrella and a cane.

Other

If you are traveling with children, in addition to hand luggage, you can take a baby carrycot or stroller on board. It is not forbidden to take newspapers, magazines and other printed publications with you (without fanaticism, of course).

It is strictly forbidden to take with you in your hand luggage: weapons and anything similar to them (if you have a fashion accessory in the shape of a grenade or pistol, they may be taken away);
piercing and cutting objects (this includes everything, even something that you wouldn’t even think of using as a weapon to cause pain to another person, for example, knitting needles); animals; gas cartridges; toxic substances.

A full list of prohibited items is often indicated directly on the ticket. If this list is not there, ask about this question right at the airport.

Check the size rules, they vary for each airline. Low-cost airlines take this issue especially seriously. Budget airlines have a strict rule: one person - one piece of hand luggage. Therefore, everything will have to be put in one bag or package. An exception is allowed only for folding strollers, crutches and outerwear.
