Story
Settlements in this place existed in ancient times. Thus, between Zatoka and the village of Belenkoe there is a large Akkembet mound - burial places of the late Trypillian culture (3rd millennium BC). There was also an ancient settlement near Zatoka in the 5th-2nd centuries BC. It is believed that the troops of the Kyiv princes Oleg, Igor and Svyatoslav gathered in this place before their campaigns against Constantinople, which is why the channel has this name.
The history of Zatoka begins with the construction of a lighthouse in 1827 near the channel on the Budak spit of the Tsaregrad lighthouse. Subsequently, the lighthouse was rebuilt and improved, and a settlement grew around it, which by 1910 received the status of a village. In 1918-40, Zatoka, as part of Bessarabia, was part of Romania, then annexed to the Ukrainian SSR.
Tourism
In 1955, a railway bridge was built in Zatoka across the Tsaregradskaya channel, connecting both parts of the village. Nowadays the bridge, like the lighthouse, are the sights of the village. However, Zatoka is known primarily as a resort area. In the summer season, the population of the village increases several times due to vacationers. The rapid development of the resort area began in the 1970s, when the oldest currently operating holiday homes were opened.
