Waterfalls in Bali: the most beautiful and most unusual. Yeh Mempeh Waterfall

26.11.2017 Maria Glazunova

We have already written several times that we really like the nature of Bali and do not get tired of repeating it again. Rice terraces and jungles, volcanoes and beaches, stunning ocean and mountain landscapes and, of course, Bali waterfalls!

In general, I don’t remember such an increased concentration of waterfalls anywhere, and the waterfalls in Bali are really powerful and beautiful, unlike Thailand (for all our love for it), where some funny little stream is often called a waterfall , completely drying out during the dry season.

In total, we counted several dozen waterfalls in Bali, but in this article I will tell you about 12 stunning waterfalls, these are the most basic, largest and most beautiful, which are definitely worth visiting on the island of Bali.

The first six are located in the southern/central part of the island, and the rest are in the north. In principle, if you wish, you can see them all in a couple of days, and the southern ones in 1 day, especially if you decide to stay in Ubud! But keep in mind, then there will be a high risk of waterfall oversaturation, and an inevitable comparison - which is better and which is worse.

For example, after the largest and most powerful Sekumpul or the stunning cascading Kanto Lampo, or the most unusual Tukad Chepung, the rest may not seem very exotic at all, although quite interesting. Some waterfalls you can swim in, and some are pleasant to contemplate; in any case, each waterfall leaves its own emotions and catches you with something special.

We once visited 5 northern waterfalls in Bali as part of our motorcycle trip around the island in a couple of days, and in the end the impressions were not so vivid, although each of them is interesting in its own way, so it makes sense to combine them with other attractions of the island.

Well, now let’s return to the Bali waterfalls, I’ll tell you about each in order, and at the end of the article you will find a map with all the marks and coordinates of the waterfalls.

When planning trips to waterfalls, do not forget about daylight hours. Most tourists coming to Bali choose a hotel on the southern beaches by the ocean - in Kuta, Seminyak, Uluwatu, Jimbaran, Nusa Dua, Sanur, or go for yoga and atmospheric places in Ubud, if you are one of them, then take a closer look at the first six, these waterfalls are easily accessible for you, you can easily go there on a motorbike in one day, but the northern waterfalls can tire you with their long journey, it’s better to get there by car or better with an overnight stay in Kintamani, Bedugul, Lovina, Amed, Munduk.

Tibumana Falls

Nice photogenic waterfall,

Accessed by a well-equipped path with steps, there is a bamboo bridge on the way
and a couple of gazebos.
The Tibumana waterfall reaches a height of 30-35 m, the jets of the waterfall are quite powerful, so not everyone will dare to climb directly under the falling noisy streams, but everyone, including children, can swim in the lagoon!
We were at the Tibumana waterfall on a day off, so we found a lot of tourists and locals, but there was a lot of space at the foot of the waterfall, enough for everyone.
You can also have a picnic, so take water/fruit with you :) which we gladly did in one of the gazebos!
Facilities include a toilet and changing room.

Dusun Kuning Waterfall

Dusun Kuning Waterfall is a huge and powerful stream of water 30 meters high, flowing down a steep cliff,
forming a lagoon in which you can swim.
well, or just admire it :)
The waterfall does not end in the lagoon, but, passing huge stepped cobblestones, continues its way down, where it flows into a mountain river. We recommend visiting Dusun Kuning Waterfall for tourists in good physical shape, because at first there is a steep descent leading to it.
then trekking for about 20 minutes along a pleasant path through the jungle, and at the very end there are tall steps almost along a vertical sheer cliff. We were at this waterfall the day after it rained; to be honest, it was not pleasant to go down the slippery steep steps, because a river ran right along them, so our feet immediately got wet.
But as a reward you still get an unforgettable experience of contemplating such an incredible natural attraction, so, in our opinion, Dusun Kuning Waterfall definitely deserves a visit!
At the Dusun Kuning waterfall we met some guys who were cyclists (you can’t get here with bicycles, you also need to leave them at the top).
You won’t be able to stay for a long time at the waterfall, you can admire it from the path or swim under the spray in the lagoon, but you can only have a picnic break on a rock below the river, but if there are a lot of visitors to the Dusun Kuning waterfall, then everyone will not be able to do this , the space is quite small.
There are signs at the entrance and a small parking area for several motorbikes.

We were there early in the morning just after dawn, near the beginning of the trek to the Dusun Kuning waterfall there was a small bamboo gazebo, but there was no one in it, we didn’t see any announcements about payment, and no one appeared on the way back either. But if you arrive during the day, they say that you will need to pay some symbolic money for a ticket.

Goa Rang-Reng Waterfall

Unlike the previous waterfall, you can and should come to Goa Rang Reng for picnics; there are even equipped bamboo sites for this purpose,
from which you can take photographs of the cascading waterfall. So, if you don’t want to get your clothes wet or suddenly forgot your swimsuit (by the way, there are changing cabins here too), you don’t have to come very close to the waterfall.

The Goa Rang-Reng waterfall reaches approximately 20 m in height, starts from a cave and flows down cascading steps into a mountain river.
You can swim in the Goa Rang Reng waterfall. You can also take natural "jacuzzis" - there are several natural lagoon openings at the top of the waterfall.
In order to climb to them and generally to the top of the waterfall, a rope is stretched from below, holding on to which anyone can climb,
but you can also settle down by the river.
It's quite easy to get to, there are signs and steps leading up to the waterfall.

Kanto Lampo Waterfall

Kanto Lampo Waterfall is truly stunning, and probably one of the most graceful waterfalls on the island of Bali. There is a waterfall below, in the gorge,
Massive concrete steps with railings lead down to the descent; it is on them at the very end near the river that you will have to leave your clothes/shoes.
And then, in order to get under the waterfall jets of Kanto Lampo and take bombastic photos on its cascading steps, you will have to go down into the river, so for valuables, it is better to have a waterproof bag/backpack.

The current in the river is very small, the depth for a walk is comfortable - in some places knee-deep, in others waist-deep, so people come here with small children, although there is nowhere to sit with them and have a picnic.
On the steps of the waterfall you can soak under the soft warm streams, it turns out like a massage effect, or you can meditate and remember yoga asanas.
Also, at the Kanto Lampo waterfall, we both felt incredible energy, even despite the abundance of tourists, so try to climb higher under the water flows, sit in the lotus position, and for sure you will also be able to feel something similar.
The Kanto Lampo waterfall is located as if in a canyon, so there is sun there in the first half of the day; after swimming, it is especially pleasant to bask in the rays of the sun on the warm stones nearby. You can also ford the river
and go up the path and then take a walk along the opposite side of the canyon, where there is a small cave
and an observation deck overlooking the waterfall.
Or you can skip the climb and just walk along the picturesque canyon, buried in vines and overgrown with soft moss.
Among the amenities downstairs at the Kanto Lampo waterfall there is a slightly strange toilet (without the usual flush, it’s also a shower, it’s also a locker room), a separate room for women, and a separate room for men.

Tukad Cepung Waterfall

Tukad Chepung Waterfall is probably the most unusual waterfall in Bali!
The path to it itself is quite atypical - first the path leads through the jungle, by the way, from there you can hear and see the top - the sources of the waterfall, and then you need to go down into the canyon,
pass by the temple in the cave,
and huge cobblestones covered with moss,
and finally see this miracle of nature!
The Tukad Chepung waterfall itself is located in a narrow gorge,
like a half-open cave,
and to take great shots, it’s better to arrive at noon, at this time, firstly, the waterfall itself is a little illuminated, and secondly, you can catch the rays of the sun,
passing through small openings at the top of the canyon. If you wish, you can swim in the lagoon near the waterfall, or simply climb under the raging stream. You can take a short walk in the opposite direction along the canyon,
overgrown with vines.
Halfway to the Tukad Chepung waterfall there are toilets and a small shop with coconuts, drinks, snacks.

At the entrance to the parking lot there is a bamboo booth in which they ask for a donation for access to the waterfall, usually 10-15 thousand rupees per person.

Tegenungan Waterfall

The waterfall is located in the southern part of the island - almost on the way from Ubud to.

Getting to Tegenungan Falls is quite easy, although many limit themselves to just the view that opens directly from the parking lot,

And in vain, because there is a very simple path leading down, 10 minutes along an earthen path and stairs, then the same amount along a dry river,

and you are already at the foot of the waterfall!

Later we learned that you can get to the Tegenungan waterfall from above, apparently we’ll have to go back and check everything :)

Nung Nung Waterfall

A pleasant waterfall in the jungle, from the parking lot there is a path-staircase leading to it, with a strong downward slope,

but this does not stop you from enjoying the views around,

Don't forget comfortable shoes - it can be damp and slippery in places.

Well, we’ve arrived, the last descent and we’re at the goal :)

Nung Nung Waterfall is surrounded by greenery!

The flow of water is very powerful, so that a cloud of small splashes constantly hangs in the air, so when we approached it, we were instantly covered in drops of water. Nung Nung is located in a gorge and is illuminated only when the sun is at its zenith, around noon. But this does not stop those who want to swim in the waterfall and get a charge of energy as powerful as the jets for the whole day :)

Well, for us, the little men in the waterfall are just to our advantage, the scale is immediately clear!

Munduk Waterfall

This waterfall is located in a mountain village of the same name. Several paths lead to it, some of which start right from the area of guesthouses and hotels. So the choice is yours, you can walk to the Munduk waterfall in 15 minutes from the parking lot, or do a short trek along the narrow paths along the cliff

past the stream

with picturesque views of the entire valley.

I enjoyed the scenic trail from the Melanting Hotel.

The height of the Munduk waterfall is 25 meters, we first heard it and then saw it. If in the dry season it creates so much splashing noise, I’m afraid to imagine its magnificence in the rainy season (from November to February).

From this waterfall you can turn onto another path (there are signs) and come to the village of Gobleg, there is another Melanting waterfall, but in terms of its power and beauty it cannot be compared with Munduk. So if you’re pressed for time and you want to see other waterfalls, then you don’t have to waste time on it.

Aling Aling Waterfall

This 30-meter waterfall is one of a group of 7 waterfalls (it is closest to the road). We only reached it, and on the way back we found out that there were others, but in any case, we would not have had time to get to them, because... arrived too late.

According to local guides who offer their services, trekking to the 3 nearest waterfalls (Pucuk, Kembar and Kroya) takes 1.5-2 hours, and to the 3 further ones (Cnging, Dedari, Cemara) 3-4 hours, but I think that this time is clearly exaggerated. We walked for about 20 minutes to the first waterfall (Aling-Aling) - first along a path through rice fields, and then down the stairs.

The view from above (from the stairs) is very interesting, as if falling water forms a bottomless turquoise lake. You can go down the stairs into the lagoon and swim, the lagoon is deep, so you can jump from the ledges.

The view from below is also breathtaking!

On the other side of the waterfall there is a river, ford along which you can go to the other waterfalls.

Git Git Waterfall

This is probably the most famous waterfall (or rather a group of waterfalls) - this is where most guides bring tourists, apparently because it is located on the tourist route, on the way from Bedugul to Lovina. Young local women take advantage of this by offering some trinkets.

The path winds around the river

through the forest, where you can, being pretty ragged, pick up a wild one,

periodically, leading to waterfalls, this is a cascading waterfall.

The waterfalls are at different levels,

and they have multiple entrances/exits, so you can start looking from both the bottom and the top.

Unfortunately, the photos from the double waterfall Git Git have disappeared somewhere - apparently, I’ll have to come and take photos again =)

Sekumpul Waterfall

This is the largest, and in our opinion the most beautiful and impressive waterfall in Bali! More precisely, again, these are 2 groups of waterfalls under one name, and they are all very impressive.

The walk to all waterfalls will take 1-2 hours. Seeing these beauties from the trail, we were ready to run towards them))

Although the view from above is no less expressive. Halfway there is a gazebo, right opposite the waterfall, despite the stunning view, you don’t want to linger for long, you’d rather go down!

It was really difficult to choose just a couple of photos of the waterfall; Sekumpul clearly deserves a separate article :) Below, by the river there is a fork: to the left to the waterfall, famous from all the photographs, and to the right to its friend, where in one place you will need to ford a stream and river.

To leave the most beautiful things for later, and get as much aesthetic pleasure and pleasure as possible, we first went to the right.

There are several waterfalls here,

but from the trail we only saw one.

It feels like there is a whole lake above, slowly flowing here into the gorge.

Well, this is another handsome Sekumpul!

Water falling from a great height creates wind and splashes,

so, despite the fact that we were in the very heat, next to the waterfall it was fresh, if not cool :)

And at the same time, we swam in the waterfalls, receiving a lot of impressions and energy.

Yeh Mempeh Waterfall

We visited this waterfall right after Sekumpul and, perhaps, that’s why it wasn’t particularly impressive, although the waterfall itself is quite interesting.

Powerful and tall, for comparison there is a small Balinese altar nearby.

A well-marked path leads from the parking lot to the waterfall; along the way there are 2 cafes with drinks and snacks. One way to the waterfall is about 20 minutes through the park (I dare not call it a forest), where birds sing, clean air and a slightly perceptible smell of spices.

That's probably all. If you know any other waterfalls worthy of attention in Bali, write about it, we will be glad to replenish your piggy bank!

All waterfalls on the map

Well, in general, if we talk about all the waterfalls we saw, then most of all we remembered and liked the Pongur Vo waterfall, not far from, there are about 5 of them in the vicinity, but this one is the most impressive.

And if we talk specifically about Indonesia, then there are very expressive waterfalls in Lombok, in the village of Senaru, as well as in, not far from the Bromo Valley (there will be separate articles about them). And the coolest place we’ve been to, and where during the rainy season it should be simply unrealistically beautiful, is this, it’s called the “Indian Niagara,” but we didn’t see it in all its glory.

Canyoning in Bali

Well, if you love active recreation and want to not just passively look at waterfalls, but get to know them even more closely, then we recommend paying attention to Canyoning.

Canyoning includes a variety of methods of descent: jumping from waterfalls of various heights, sliding along stone chutes, carabiner descent - when you need to relax your hands and soar on the belay, and “climbing” descent using ropes and carabiners.

Where have you seen the most impressive waterfall? Share in the comments!

Git Git Waterfall is the most visited waterfall on the island of Bali and is included in almost all excursions around the center of the island, as it is quite spectacular and also not very difficult to get to. The Git Git waterfall is located in the center of the island near another attraction - the temple. On the day when we decided to go around the center of the island and see interesting places in Bali, our plan also included, and on the way back to Kuta, in the late afternoon, we stopped briefly to see the Git Git waterfall.

I really love waterfalls and also swimming in them. In almost every country, one or two waterfalls are always on my list of attractions. In Bali, I managed to visit 3 waterfalls - Git Git, and. Of course, the most beautiful waterfall for me in Bali is Sekumpul, but getting to it is very long and difficult. And Git Git was the very first waterfall that my husband and I visited on the island.

In general, Git Git is a family of 3 waterfalls, all of them are located close to each other and you can get to all three by walking along the river bed. The distance between the first waterfall and the last is approximately 1 km; all waterfalls in the jungle are connected by paths and bridges. We only went up to the main waterfall; also nearby is the Git-Git twin waterfall, and below it is the cascade of Mekalongan waterfalls. If you want to reach all the Git Git waterfalls, then I advise you to allocate 2-3 hours for this activity.

The best time to look at the waterfalls in Bali is during the rainy season - from October to April, since in this case the waterfalls appear in all their glory - they are full of water and very impressive with the large flow of water falling from a height. You can usually swim in such waterfalls, just be prepared for the fact that the water in them is quite cool, and sometimes even icy, but it is perfectly refreshing after a hot descent.

You can get to the Git Git waterfall on your own by rented car or moped, or as part of an excursion. Public transport in Bali is extremely poorly developed, so most often tourists get here themselves. We did the same thing - we came here on a moped from our hotel in Kuta - Bliss Surfer Hotel. The journey by moped takes approximately 2 hours, during which time you will have time to enjoy the nature of the island of Bali, passing numerous rice terraces, as well as serpentine roads in the mountains.

Git Git waterfall - cost of visiting and descent

The cost of visiting the Git Git waterfall is only 5000 rupees. It's very inexpensive. You will have a very interesting descent to the waterfall. As I already wrote above, this is the most visited waterfall in Bali, so the descent to the foot of the waterfall is very crowded with various stalls selling everything - these include numerous magnets with a very expensive price, as well as various bracelets, beads, and so on. They will call you to each tent and assure you that they have the cheapest price for souvenirs (although this is not the case), and throughout the entire descent, little girls will run up to you and ask you to buy bracelets from them with pleading eyes. Also along the way there are women carrying many things on their heads.

The descent itself is very pleasant, there are good paths and stairs with railings. Both adults and children can go down to the waterfall without any problems. They will offer you the services of a guide at the top, saying that the descent to the waterfall is very difficult, and that without a guide you will definitely get lost - don’t believe it! The descent is not difficult, it is impossible to get lost here, since along the way there are constantly signs showing which way to go.

We walked down to the waterfall for about 15-20 minutes. Since we arrived here around 5 pm, there were practically no people or tourists here. This is a big plus. The people in front of us were in swimsuits; it was obvious that they were swimming in a waterfall. Initially, I planned to swim in the waterfall, but since we arrived here in the evening, and the sun was no longer warm as much as during the day, and to the hotel in Kuta we had to ride a moped for another 2 hours, and we had to change our clothes with us we didn’t take it - all this led to the fact that we simply took photographs at the waterfall, without actually swimming in it for the first time. 🙂

I liked the Git Git waterfall itself, there was a lot of water, and when you stand very close to the water, it seemed like it was raining. We wandered along the waterfall a little, I climbed on the rocks, wet my feet - the water was cool - and we climbed back up.

We were waiting for 2 hours on a moped to Kuta, and pleasant memories from the beautiful places we saw on this wonderful island.

Read other articles on the island of Bali:

The nature of Bali amazes with its beauty and pristineness. You can admire it for hours. Despite the relatively small size of the island, several dozen beautiful waterfalls are concentrated within its borders, the powerful water flows of which do not dry out even during the dry season. Today I will tell you about the best of them, which every tourist is simply obliged to visit.

The waterfall is a continuation of the Tukad Petani River. Its advantage is that it can be viewed from both a lower and an upper angle. Located 15 minutes drive from Ubud, near the village of Kemenuh.

The waterfall itself is small, but the nature around it fascinates with its beauty and clean air. The height of the water fall is about 25 meters. There is an observation deck to the side of the water stream, where you can also buy refreshments and snacks.

To go down, you will have to walk along the rocky stairs. At the foot there is a fenced bathhouse, divided into two parts. The streams of water in it shoot straight out of the rock. There is a parking lot near the waterfall; the cost of visiting is 25 thousand rupees.

Kanto Lampo Waterfall

The waterfall is located near Gianyar and can be reached from both Ubud and Denpasar. Like other similar places, there is parking for bikes and cars near Canto Lampo. The road to the waterfall consists of steps, surrounded on all sides by tropical forest. The safety of the descent is ensured by the railings that accompany the steps to the very bottom. There is a changing room in the middle of the path.

The local population often fishes on the river near the waterfall. Eels and various small fish live here. On the opposite bank of the river there is a cave with bats; you can cross the stream on foot, the maximum depth is 60 centimeters. Near the cave there is an observation deck from which a beautiful view of the waterfall opens.

There is a version that Kanto Lampo is one of the youngest waterfalls. The amount of water depends on the season; during the rainy season, the flow may be cloudy. The easy road to the water stream allows you to come here with children of any age. The cost of visiting is 5 thousand rupees.

Goa Rang Reng waterfall

Goa Rang Reng is one of the low waterfalls on the island. It was opened to the public not so long ago, and therefore there are never large crowds of tourists here.

It is located near the city of Guignar, in appearance it resembles a beautiful river drop that flows from the cave. Its length is no more than 30 meters. There is a swimming pool downstairs where anyone can refresh themselves. The trail is not difficult; people often come here with children. At the foot there are bamboo gazebos where you can relax and enjoy beautiful views of the surrounding nature. The cost of visiting is 15 thousand rupees.

Near the waterfall you can meet a local resident who will unobtrusively accompany you to the attraction. He will tell you about the waterfall, the difficult road to it, and will give you his hand and lead you along. It was precisely this kind of escort that we met. But you need to understand that he will require payment for his services. We knew that nothing was done for nothing and immediately asked how much his services cost. He said that you can leave a donation (donation), but not less than 50 thousand rupees. We did not count on this and kindly refused his services, citing lack of money. He immediately left our company.

In general, such escorts can be found near any waterfall or attraction. Therefore, immediately check the cost of their services. If you are not ready to pay, then refuse.

Tibumana waterfall

Located in the village of Apuan on the Bangunlemah River, 15 kilometers east of Ubud. You can leave your vehicle near the Pura Dalem temple complex; there is a small parking lot there. There is also a visiting fee of 10 thousand rupees. Further your path will be on foot.

You need to move along cement steps towards the river along tropical vegetation. At the fork, turn left - this is the road to the waterfall itself. The water flow reveals itself in all its glory during the rainy season. During the dry period, it is a single stream of water. The space around it is covered with thickets of ferns and moss, which creates a special atmosphere here.

Tibumana is a place that you want to return to again and again for its amazing landscapes and clean air. The height of the stream is about 35 meters and, despite its power, it is safe to swim at the foot. For convenience, there is a changing room and a bamboo gazebo for relaxation.

Dusun Kuning Waterfall

This is one of the quietest and least known waterfalls in Bali. It is located south of the city of Bangli. The height of the water flow does not exceed 25 meters. Getting to it will require some effort, since not even all local residents know about its existence. From the village of Umanyar the route is on foot. You will have to walk for a third of an hour through the fields towards the river. Having reached the cliff, you need to go down to the waterfall itself, just be extremely careful, as the path is quite slippery.

It is recommended to visit the waterfall during the dry season, since during the rains the descent to it becomes especially dangerous. A fairly powerful water flow forms a swimming lagoon below. Monkeys live near the waterfall; you can meet them on the way to the foot. There is no infrastructure here. Visiting is free, but sometimes a small fee may be charged for parking.

Tukad Cepung Waterfall

It is rightfully considered one of the most beautiful waterfalls on the island of Bali, as it is located among rocks covered on all sides with moss and ferns. The mystery of the visit begins with the path leading to the water stream. It originates in the jungle, from where a view opens to the top of the water stream, and then gradually begins to descend into the canyon. Along the way you will come across a small cave with a temple.

The waterfall is located in a narrow gorge; it is better to come here at noon. It is at this time that it is illuminated by the sun's rays and begins to play with completely different colors. On the way to the waterfall there is a small shop that sells coconuts, soft drinks and snacks. The cost of visiting is 15 thousand rupees; the waterfall is located near Ubud.

Nung Nung Waterfall

The Nung Nung waterfall is located in the central part of the island, so it is most convenient to get to it from Ubud. At the top there is a parking lot, there is also a cash window where you will need to pay 10 thousand rupees per person. Then the path to the waterfall will run through the tropical forest. I would like to note that the journey to the water stream will take at least 30 minutes, so be patient and go for a walk.

A stepped path with strong handrails leads to the waterfall; it is safe to go down it. The surrounding nature is very beautiful; you can admire the landscapes here for hours. Along the way you will come across the first non-main waterfall, but you shouldn’t stop there, be sure to continue the path, because at the end a delightful picture awaits you. Nung Nung is a powerful stream of water surrounded on all sides by greenery.

Munduk Waterfall

Munduk is one of the most famous and visited waterfalls on the island, but despite this feature, there are almost never crowds of tourists here. It is located 3 kilometers from Lake Tamblingan. The access roads to the waterfall resemble serpentines, so you need to be very careful along the way.

The local population near the beginning of the trail to the waterfall has equipped something like a parking lot; you will have to pay 5 thousand rupees for leaving a vehicle. The path to the waterfall is no more than 500 meters long, but the noise from the falling water can be heard even at the entrance. The water flow is powerful; it is impossible to approach the foot, since everything below is shrouded in a cloud of water dust.

Git Git Waterfall

Git-Git is the deepest waterfall on the island. Tourists are always present here. In isolated cases, travelers come on their own, mostly they are brought during a planned excursion. It is located near Lake Bratan.

Many street agencies offer to visit the waterfall accompanied by an experienced guide, arguing that the approach to it is quite difficult and you cannot cope on your own.
