Bottom tackle: types, secrets and subtleties of fishing. A fascinating process of making fishing gear with your own hands Making gear for dark fishing

Beginner fishermen assume that with the help of bottom gear they can only catch fish that lead a bottom-dwelling lifestyle. Actually this is not true.

Fishing rods for bottom fishing can have a variety of design solutions. Some structures are used without a rod at all, and the well-known “elastic band” is also a bottom tackle.

The most common tackle, called a “zakidushka”, is the ancestor of the well-known feeder and other tackle, such as a spinning rod.

A regular cast can consist of any type of fishing rod, as well as a reel on which up to 100 meters of fishing line can be wound. A sinker and several leashes with hooks are attached to the end of the fishing line. If a section of the rod is equipped with a thin, sensitive tip, the result will be a feeder rod that can respond to the slightest touch of the fish.

Modern feeder rods are equipped with several tips of varying stiffness, which allows the use of sinkers of various weights. The presence of such tips allows you to fish both in the current and in calm water.

There are several designs that do not have rods. Instead of a fishing rod, a reel is used of a design that allows you to store and transport the tackle, and also allows you to secure it on the shore of the reservoir. Tackle such as “elastic band” is quite widely used by anglers for bottom fishing. It got its name because its design includes a rubber shock absorber. It allows you to retrieve caught fish without pulling the tackle out of the water.

Despite the simplicity of the design, the catchability of the “elastic band” is at the highest level. In second place in terms of catchability, you can put the “ring” bottom tackle. Unfortunately, it can only be used if you have a boat. Quite an interesting tackle, with the following operating principle. A feeder with food on a thick fishing line is lowered to the bottom of the reservoir, in a promising place. It will remain at the bottom until the end of fishing. After this, a thinner fishing line with leads and nozzles is lowered to the bottom. In this case, a ring of a certain weight is used. It draws the fishing line with hooks closer to the feeder and keeps them in one place. This is especially true in the presence of a current, when hooks with bait under the influence of the current can move from the feeder to an indefinite distance.

This fishing method has one drawback. The gear does not allow you to quickly change the fishing point. You either need to know the nature of the reservoir and the bottom topography well, or you may just be lucky.

To have a snack, you need to stock up on the following details:

  • fishing line of the required thickness;
  • lead sinker;
  • leashes and hooks;
  • bite alarm (bell).

Instead of a fishing rod, wooden sticks, pointed at one end, are suitable. This will allow you to drive them on the shore, thereby ensuring reliable fastening of the gear. Reliable fastening is necessary in conditions where it is expected to catch a trophy specimen of pike or catfish. Therefore, the fishing line is selected according to the principle “the thicker the better.” Typically, a fishing line diameter of 0.4-0.5 mm is quite sufficient, as is its length of 50 meters. It is unlikely that you can throw the “trick” with your hands any further.

The shape and weight of the sinker are selected depending on the nature of the reservoir. If there is a current, then the sinker is chosen heavier, if there is no current, then it is lighter. But the weight of the sinker should be enough so that the “throwaway” can be thrown as far as possible. If the bottom is hard, then a sinker of any shape will work, but if it is muddy, then it is better to use a flat sinker.

As a rule, no more than 4 leashes with hooks are installed on the “zakidushka”, so that there are no unnecessary hooks. The ideal option is no more than 2 leashes. The size of the hooks depends on the type of fish and its size. If the “hook” is installed on a catfish, then the hooks are of the appropriate size.

Installation of the rubber band

This gear includes the following components:

  • monofilament line with a diameter of 0.3-0.5 mm and a length of up to 100 m;
  • Hungarian elastic band (round), up to 10 m long;
  • braided fishing line, 0.2 mm thick and up to 20 m long;
  • bite alarm (any design).

As a rule, the tackle is attached to a reel of a certain shape, which is cut from plywood, 6 mm thick. The shape of the reel should provide for fastening the gear on the shore.

You can use an ordinary brick or part of it as a sinker. This will save money. At the same time, it should be borne in mind that a load weighing 1 kg is quite enough. The weight is connected to a rubber shock absorber using a piece of rope 1-1.5 meters long. A rope is needed to cast gear from the shore. If there is a watercraft, then the load can be carried to any distance. In this case, the load can be attached directly to the elastic band.

Next, the main fishing line is attached to the elastic band. Stepping back from the rubber shock absorber from 1 to 2 meters, form 5-6 loops, at a distance of 30-50 cm from one another. You will subsequently need to attach leashes with hooks to these loops. Typically, fastening is carried out according to the “loop-to-loop” principle, although there are other options. For example, you can use fasteners (carabiners). As practice shows, the presence of unnecessary elements can scare away fish.

The length of the shock absorber may depend on the physical capabilities of the angler. The farther from the shore you can cast the tackle, the longer the piece of elastic you need to install on the tackle. It is necessary to take into account the fact that the elastic band increases in size from 3 to 5 times.

How to make a donk with a feeder?

To increase the chances of catching fish, a feeder is added to the bottom rig. Moreover, the feeder at this time acts as a sinker, which is very convenient. The classic installation with a feeder looks like this:

  1. When using a feeder, you should carefully and prudently consider the process of choosing a fishing rod. During fishing, several loads act on the rod: the weight of the bait, the weight of the feeder with food and the caught fish.
  2. A fishing line with a thickness of 0.3-0.4 mm is used, which is located on a powerful reel that can accommodate up to 150 m of fishing line.
  3. As a rule, preference is given to coils from well-known and reliable manufacturers.
  4. The feeder is selected depending on the nature of the bottom of the reservoir.

Popular types of feeders

The spring type feeder is widely popular. It is used for catching peaceful fish and shows good efficiency. The advantages of such a design include:

  • this feeder is relatively cheap;
  • it has acceptable effectiveness;
  • it can be easily made at home;
  • it is suitable for fishing both on the river and on the lake;
  • With its help you can catch any peaceful fish.

Makushatnik

This is a very simple and affordable bottom tackle, the effectiveness of which has been proven over many years. They called it that because sunflower cake (makukha) is used as feed. Very often, such equipment is used for carp fishing.

You will be able to buy a makushatnik in a specialized store, but you can buy ready-made briquettes for a makushatnik. However, this is the main component of the equipment, and how to adapt the briquette depends on the imagination of the fisherman himself. Sometimes fishermen don’t get too imaginative and resort to simply securing a briquette of macadamia using an elastic band.

The second component of the rig is the sinker. It can also be secured in the simplest way. The weight and shape of the sinker is selected for a specific body of water. And the third component is leashes with hooks that simply hide in the top of the fish, without any bait. Sometimes they simply use foam balls to keep the hooks suspended.

Pacifier

The nipple is one of the types of bottom rigs. The principle of its operation is based on the fact that crucian carp or carp seem to suck in supposed food objects. Structurally, the nipple is made in the form of a feeder, into which the bait is tightly compacted, and hooks with or without bait are hidden in the bait. The crucian carp, having discovered a food item, begin to slowly suck in the contents of the feeder. As a result, it sucks in hooks along with food. When he discovers foreign bodies, he tries to get rid of them, but it is too late.

The simplest design of a pacifier consists of a cap from a plastic (5 liter) bottle and a wire threaded parallel to the surface of the cap, to which the main fishing line and a leash with hooks are attached. By the way, there can be several leashes (up to 6 pieces). The leashes should be very short so that they cannot twist together.

DIY Banjo tackle

It is often used by anglers when fishing in still water. This gear is nothing more than an average derivative of a feeder and nipple.

It is easy to make such equipment yourself:

  1. You need to take a lid from a 5 liter plastic container.
  2. Holes are made on the sides of the lid, after which a hollow tube is inserted.
  3. The weight is attached to the bottom of the lid in any available way.

Gear installation

The main fishing line is passed through a small tube, at the end of which a leash with hooks is attached. If a classic pacifier does not belong to a sports type of equipment, then a pacifier made using this technology turns into a sports equipment.

Making bottom gear with a light bite indicator is another step that increases the comfort of fishing. To do this you need to have:

  1. A plastic yogurt container.
  2. Two coin cell batteries.
  3. Switch.
  4. Tilt sensor.
  5. One LED and one chip.

Manufacturing technology

  • A hole with a diameter of 6 cm is drilled in the lid of the container. A screw is inserted into the hole and a paper clip is attached to the outside.
  • Up to 50 meters of fishing line of the appropriate diameter is wound around the body of the container. A carabiner with a swivel is attached to its end.
  • After this, a bite indicator is made and attached to the LED.

Making a tilt sensor

The main element of the bite alarm is the tilt sensor, which is made as follows?

  1. Take a metal tube with a diameter of 8 mm and a length of 15 mm.
  2. A side part is cut from sheet aluminum.
  3. The second sidewall is made of insulating material (plastic or textolite).
  4. A small screw is screwed into the center of the second sidewall, to which the foil is soldered.
  5. After this, they begin to assemble the sensor. A sidewall made of insulating material is attached to the tube using glue.
  6. The cavity of the tube is filled with small metal balls or pieces of copper wire.
  7. At the next stage, the first sidewall is attached to the tube.
  8. The holder for two batteries must be cut from brass. All elements are insulated using cambric.
  9. Finally, a board with a microcircuit and an LED is glued, after which it is installed on the lid.

Shore installation

After arriving at the pond, you should cut off a small peg and drive it into the ground. The indicator is attached to the peg using a paper clip. At the top point of the peg, a crevice is formed through which the fishing line is passed. When bitten, the peg will bend and the sensor will be triggered.

Do-it-yourself donka with a self-cutter

When constructing such devices, you should always remember that such devices do not belong to sports types of fishing. Nevertheless, they allow you to increase the chances of catching fish. In order for the tackle to be self-hooking, it is enough to install a piece of elastic instead of a leash, which will serve as the mechanism capable of ensuring the fish’s self-hooking. At the same time, the elastic band must be strong enough, otherwise it may not be able to withstand a bite from a large specimen.

The regular nipple, which was mentioned in this article, also leads to self-hooking fish. This is facilitated by the mass of the feeder. The greater its weight, the greater the self-cutting effect.

Bottom tackle, such as a feeder, is practically universal tackle. Experienced fishermen use this type of gear to catch crucian carp, carp, bream, pike perch, roach, silver bream, perch, etc.

You can catch such fish only with a powerful, reliable spinning rod. It is better to use a feeder rod, since it is designed for such fishing conditions.

As a rule, an experienced fisherman has several types of feeders in his arsenal, designed for specific fishing conditions.

The use of certain gear is dictated by the behavior of a certain type of fish. Therefore, it is very important to choose gear for catching specific fish, for example, carp, crucian carp, bream, etc.

Almost anyone can make a simple donk for fishing, even someone who has just begun to delve into all the intricacies of this art.

How to make donka

Usually an elastic rod is used, the material of which can be bamboo, or, which is more accessible for our latitudes, hazel. As a rule, a length of 1 - 1.5 meters will be quite enough. If the end of the rod you have chosen is too thick, then it is advisable to sharpen it. The cheapest inertial reels are usually used to wind the fishing line. Line lengths of 30 - 50 meters are enough for comfortable fishing.

It is better to choose the diameter of the fishing line used in the range of 0.4 - 0.6 mm. A tube made of vinyl chloride or rubber is attached to the end of our improvised donkey. A fishing line is passed through it and fixed on the tip of our donka during fishing. We use a second tube of slightly larger diameter to insert the wire from the signal bell.

After this, we need to secure the weight to the end of the fishing line. If you use this donkey for fishing in stagnant water, then the size and shape of the load do not matter much. When fishing in running water, you will need a heavy and preferably flat sinker, weighing at least 100 - 150 grams. If you wish, you can make such a load yourself. A regular tablespoon is perfect for this. When connecting the line to the weight, be sure to use a swivel, otherwise your line will inevitably twist and eventually become tangled. Having stepped back from the load by about 30 - 40 cm, you can attach the first leash, and also use the swivel in tandem with the carabiner.

As a rule, such leashes are installed in quantities from 3 to 5 pieces. To feed peaceful fish, you can additionally install a feeder. The hooks you use depend on the type of fish you are trying to catch. For peaceful fish this is No. 5 - 8, for predatory fish, such as pike and perch - No. 9 - 12.

It's rare that a man isn't interested in fishing. This activity can be done both in summer and winter. The size of the catch directly depends on the quality of the gear.

There is no need to purchase them in the store. Any angler, whether amateur or professional, should be able to collect them himself.

DIY gear for open water fishing

Self-made gear is more convenient to use than store-bought gear. In this case, they can be completely customized. It is more convenient to fish on an open surface with your own gear, the main thing is to make it correctly.

Making a float fishing rod

Fishing rods of this design are called fly rods. Some of them are equipped with coils, although they are not particularly necessary. It is better to attach the fishing line to the end of the rod. The casting distance depends on the strength of the swing.

The presence of a reel makes the tackle heavier. It is preferable to use it for storing fishing line and not attach it to tackle.

Manufacturing of equipment:

  • If a reel is used, then the fishing line is passed through all the rings, and the end, using a double loop, is tied to it. The unnecessary part is cut off. If there is no reel, then the fishing line is attached directly to the top point of the rod.
  • If there is a reel, the fishing line is wound around it. If it is not there, then the length of the fishing line should match the length of the fishing rod or be 0.5 m longer.
  • The line is threaded through the top ring of the float. Along with it, seals or cambrics are put on, which grip the lower part of the float.
  • The float is moved up, and weights in the form of pellets are attached. There should be such a number of them that when testing the float, only its upper part stands out on the surface.
  • Leashes about 20 cm long are attached to the fishing line. Their number can be 2 - 3 pieces.
  • The ends of the leashes end with hooks.

Fishing with such gear occurs from the shore. The depth of the reservoir varies from 0.5 to 15 m. Casting range is 5 to 8 m.

DIY feeder equipment

Bottom fishing is carried out using. The fisherman watches the fish touch the bait.

You can make it yourself.

It has varieties:

  • Paternoster. The fishing line contains a number of loops. Leashes with attached hooks and bait are attached to them.
  • Asymmetrical and symmetrical loop. An asymmetrical loop is obtained when 1.5 m of fishing line is folded, making one end 10 cm longer. Twist the double fishing line up to 15 cm, then tie a knot. A swivel is attached to one end. It turns out that the long side is 50 or 70 cm, and the smaller section is 30-60. With symmetrical feeder equipment, the lengths of the ends are the same.
  • Helicopter. A swivel is attached, which has a clasp for the feeder. To seal the swivel, a cambric is put on. The distance to the feeder ranges from 5 to 20 cm.
  • With anti-twist. So, they call it a curved tube with a fishing line inserted. It is stopped by a damper bead. Next, a swivel with a leash is attached.
  • Combine. The basis is also an anti-twist. Then the fishing line with the feeder is attached to the swivel.
  • Inline. The swivel has a clasp with a stopper, and then a loop is formed for attaching the leash. The feeder is connected via a carabiner.

Spinning rod assembly

A spinning rod is very convenient for fishing on a flat surface.

Its assembly proceeds in the following order:

  • I use glue and attach guide rings to the rod.
  • These rings must be clearly located in the axis. Deviations are not allowed, since the line will rub against their sides. This will affect your casting distance.
  • As a rule, a fishing rod is sold with a reel seat. This is where the coil is attached.
  • The fishing line, passing through the rings, is fixed with a bobbin and then wound onto a reel.
  • The last stage is attaching the swivel.

Spinning is considered a universal tool for catching both large fish and small and medium-sized ones.

Making your own baits

When making bait with your own hands, you should remember that it is prepared for individual fish species. It should attract their attention with aroma and color.

Bait recipes:

  • Porridge. After keeping the cereal in boiling water for 15 minutes, add aromatic elements: anise, dill, camphor.
  • Simple earthworms.
  • Potatoes and bread. The potatoes are boiled with the skins on until partially cooked. The bread is cut into small pieces and placed on a hook together with the potatoes.
  • Bread and honey. These substances are taken in a ratio of 10:1. A well mixed mixture is fine.
  • Old bread. Dough is made from it. The crust is cut off and the flesh is softened in water. The required amount of sugar is added to obtain a solid consistency.
  • Electronic lures. They are used in fishless areas. The fish swims not only based on the smell, but also on the sound effect.

Important to remember! That each body of water has its own characteristics. When fishing in an unfamiliar place, you need to study the habits of the fish in order to correctly decide on the type of bait.

Making gear for winter fishing with your own hands

This kind of fishing belongs to the category of specific types. It requires a special design of equipment and unique baits. Professionals prefer homemade designs. More often than not, they meet all the angler’s requirements.

Making a fishing rod for jig fishing

The manufacturing procedure is as follows:

  • In the store you need to buy a reel that will serve as a base and handle.
  • A tip is taken, it is called a whip, which is made of fiberglass.
  • Using silicone, the whip is attached to the reel.
  • A thin strip called a nod is cut out of a plastic bottle.
  • Two cambrics of different diameters are cut and the same piece of silicone tube is inserted into a cambric of a larger diameter. A nod is pulled into the inside of the silicone tube and next to it, for compaction, a cambric of a smaller diameter.
  • Take a thin wire, wrap it around a paperclip, and you get a spring.
  • A hole is made in the end part of the nod into which this spring is inserted.
  • The fishing line is wound onto the reel and pulled along the nod through a silicone tube and spring.
  • The jig is tied with the same knot as the hook is tied.

How to catch more fish?

Every avid fisherman undoubtedly has his own secrets for successful fishing. Over the course of conscious fishing, I myself have found quite a few ways to improve the bite. I share my TOP:
  1. . Stimulates a strong appetite in fish, attracting them even in cold water. It's all to blame pheromones included in its composition. It's a pity that Rosprirodnadzor wants to ban its sale.
  2. Correct selection of gear. Read the appropriate manuals for the specific type of gear on the pages of my website.
  3. Lures based pheromones.
You can get the rest of the secrets of successful fishing for free by reading my other materials on the site.

Your DIY winter fishing rod is ready.

Making a fishing rod for trolling

The stages of making such gear are similar to assembling a fishing rod for jig fishing. They are up to 0.8 m in length.

The manufacturing stages are as follows:

  • A handle is being made. A necessary condition is its ease. The material can be balsa wood or ordinary plastic. A hole is drilled at the end into which the sleeve is driven. It could be a piece of an old fishing rod. The outside needs to be reinforced with an aluminum ring mounted on epoxy resin.
  • A whip with rings is inserted into the inner sleeve. It is advisable to have several of them, of different lengths, from 30 to 60 cm.
  • Nod. Attaches to the end of the whip in the usual manner. Its rigidity should be such that when the whip moves upward, the nod bends at an angle of 46 - 60 degrees. The spoon was separated from the bottom.
  • A removable spool is attached to the top of the handle. The line is pulled through the rings of the whip, then through the nod and spring.
  • A spoon is tied to the end of the fishing line.

The result is a very convenient and lightweight equipment.

Making gear for fishing with your own hands

Such gear differs in its base. They find their use after freeze-up.

You can make it yourself:

  • A pipe made of nylon material 5 mm thick is taken. Length 30 cm. A hole for the fishing line is drilled on one side, and a slot is made on the other.
  • Instead of fishing line, nylon thread can be used. If the predator is large, you need to take the appropriate thickness. The length is chosen so that after biting the fish should be able to sink to the bottom.
  • The leash is attached. The material is nichrome wire, 0.5 mm in diameter. Next comes the carbine.
  • At the end, a double or triple hook is tied, since the predator is very strong.

Other design:

  • The basis is seven-layer plywood, dimensions 10x20 cm.
  • A 15 mm hole is made in the center, and 6.5 mm at the edge. At the other end a slot is made for a metal flag.
  • A bolt is inserted into the smaller hole and tightened with a nut from above. A coil with a pin on the side surface is placed on the protruding part of the bolt and secured with a nut and locknut so that rotation remains free.
  • An L-shaped screw 5x52 cm is screwed in next to the coil.
  • The fishing line is pulled through the central hole, with a loop attached to it.
  • A treble hook is taken, the leash is pulled through its hole, the loop is thrown over one tip and tightened.
  • The flag is bent and grabbed by the hook.
  • In case of a bite, the reel begins to rotate, the pin presses on the flag and it straightens.

The equipment is simple, but in winter it is an indispensable thing when catching a predator.

DIY winter fishing baits

In winter, there are peculiarities in fish bait. Fragrances must not be used. Cold water is a poor conductor of odors, so they remain in place and do not spread throughout the body of water.

The lack of nutrients in winter requires making baits with more calories by adding maggots.

A mixture of milk powder and... attracts fish. They are first mixed dry and then diluted with water on site. Drop the thick mixture one tablespoon at a time into the wells. You can also add breadcrumbs here. The bait attracts small fish well.

If the hunt is for a large individual, then take breadcrumbs in the amount of 0.6 kg, cake - 1 tablespoon, oatmeal - 150 g. Add 1 cup of any food that aquarium fish eat. 1-2 spoons are poured into each hole.

In winter, there is an urgent need for feeding, otherwise most of the prey will go away.

When fishing in summer and winter, you need to be well aware of the habits of fish swimming in water bodies. The catch will then be good when the equipment and bait meet the necessary requirements. It is better to prepare all this with your own hands, because store-bought products rarely meet all the requirements. I caught this pike using a bite activator. I’ve never caught one of these before, but now every time I bring back trophy specimens from fishing! The time has come for you to guarantee your catch!!!

Crucian carp is a fish of the carp family and lives almost everywhere throughout central Russia. Crucian carp feed on almost everything, from algae to worms and insects that have fallen into the water. The crucian carp that lives in the middle zone is usually small, but the crucian carp that lives in the lower reaches of the Volga sometimes reaches the size of a small carp. There are two varieties of crucian carp in the middle zone:

  • Silver– not very large, covered with medium scales of light shades. Handles transportation well.
  • Gold- slightly larger than silver scales, relatively large, yellow in shade. Does not tolerate transportation well.

Float tackle

(or “float rod”) is perhaps the most popular and sporting equipment for catching crucian carp. It consists of a rod, reel, fishing line, the float itself, a sinker and a hook with a nozzle.

Also read the guide on, which will come in handy when fishing with a float and other gear.

Feeder tackle

The feeder rod () should be selected depending on the conditions (reservoir, weather). So, for large bodies of water with strong currents (rivers, reservoirs), a tackle with a large rod weight of up to 120 g is suitable. For small bodies of water, a tackle with a rod up to 60 g and a small feeder is suitable. Rods with a length of 3.5 - 4 meters are the most versatile and have a good price-quality ratio. When choosing a feeder, you should take products weighing slightly less than the test rod, since the rest of the weight will be “taken” by the bait.

Lure must also correspond to the reservoir (). When fishing on a body of water with a strong current, the bait should be dense enough so that it does not wash away, and on reservoirs with a weak current or standing water - as light as possible so that it does not sink in the muddy bottom. For the latter option, a base of breadcrumbs is suitable.

To prevent the fish from quickly getting enough and thus losing interest in the bait, the components of the bait should be small. Crucian carp do not have specific taste preferences, so there can be no unambiguous and clear advice on how to make bait. For scent, you can add a little grated garlic, ground seeds, vegetable oil or even ground cookies to the bait.

  • You can use a crucian carp bait together with makukha – most often worms and granules are used. Worms can be used either as dung or crawling worms, which can be found in the city or bought at a fishing store, or as “shore” worms, which can be obtained directly on the spot. Granules are used in anise, dill, hemp, corn, raspberry or strawberry flavors. The granules are placed two per hook.
  • You can also use regular carp rigging, hooks can either be placed in the cake or left free. You can buy the cake flavored or flavor it yourself. Anise, hemp, dill and strawberries are suitable.
