The best sea resorts in Georgia in the summer. The best beaches in Georgia in Batumi, Kobuleti, Sarpi or Gonio? Beaches of Georgia reviews

Mostly pebble. The sea here is relatively clean and the water is quite warm. The number of people on the beaches is not very large even during the peak tourist season - there are always free places.

Among the disadvantages of a beach holiday in Batumi, I would like to note the large pebble bottom - going into the water and lying on towels is quite inconvenient, many tourists swim in special shoes and rent sun loungers for 3 lari GEORGIAN GEL RATE:
3 lari = 0.99 euro;
3 lari = 1.14 dollars;
3 lari = 75.66 rubles;
3 lari = 31.92 hryvnia;
3 lari = 2.55 Belarusian rubles.
in a day.

In terms of shopping, there are many shops in Batumi, but it’s difficult to find really interesting things. We would recommend starting with the store - it seemed to us optimal in terms of price and quality ratio.

Interesting: detailed article about prices in Batumi: how much food and souvenirs cost

For tourists interested, Batumi has something to see. The city itself is very modern and beautiful. You can spend 2-3 days just examining it.

First of all, I would like to highlight:, Piazza, local, Batumi embankment, and Argonauts Square.

It would be a good idea to visit the attractions near Batumi. For budget travelers, I would like to recommend first and foremost.

Kobuleti - an option for independent holidays

In this panorama you can simultaneously see the beach, modern hotels in Ureki, and typical housing in the private sector. Try rotating it with your mouse.

Important Note

Ureki is primarily a health resort for people with serious musculoskeletal disorders. Especially a lot of young children are brought here.

Many tourists will not be comfortable relaxing and seeing seriously ill children.

Since Ureki is more of a health resort, prices for housing and food here will be higher than in other “village” types. If treatment is not the purpose of the trip, we recommend choosing any other resort.

Gonio and Kvariati - live with sea and mountain views

The villages of Gonio and Kvariati are located south of Batumi. These resorts have a common beach and in essence they are not much different. The sea here is noticeably cleaner than in Batumi. The mountains approach almost the sea itself, and therefore there are a lot of beautiful views in the surrounding area. The resort is suitable exclusively for a relaxing holiday close to nature.

If you are vacationing in Gonio or Kvariati, be sure to visit the Gonia Fortress. A ticket costs only 3 GEL, but you will be left with a lot of impressions.

Attractions: nearby is , and .

They write on the Internet that Gonio and Kvariati are elite resorts in Georgia. Indeed, prices for housing and food here are noticeably higher (30-50%) than in Batumi, but this is where all the elitism of the resort ends. The infrastructure here is weak, there is not much to do. The only saving grace is the minibuses, which go to Batumi every 10 minutes and cost 80 tetri GEORGIAN GEL RATE:
0.8 lari = 0.26 euros;
0.8 lari = 0.3 dollars;
0.8 lari = 20.18 rubles;
0.8 lari = 8.51 hryvnia;
0.8 lari = 0.68 Belarusian rubles.
Exchange rates and prices may not be accurate.. A taxi will cost approx. 10 lari GEORGIAN GEL RATE:
10 lari = 3.31 euros;
10 lari = 3.8 dollars;
10 lari = 252.2 rubles;
10 lari = 106.4 hryvnia;
10 lari = 8.5 Belarusian rubles.
Exchange rates and prices may not be accurate., if you bargain.

If you still plan to come here, book your accommodation in advance: prices in Gonio and prices in Kvariati. During the season, finding decent accommodation in the private sector or booking a good hotel locally is very difficult. In spring or autumn there are no problems with this, but the resort seems to “fall asleep” - it becomes boring already on the 2-3rd day of rest.

If you book accommodation in the private sector - beware of deception. Very often, housing in poor condition and on the mountain, half an hour walk from the beach, is rented out at low prices. It's easy to go down, but not so much to go up in the heat. At the same time, beautiful photos will in no way protect you from scammers - they take them from the Internet or photograph someone else’s home. When you come on vacation during the peak season, there will be no other accommodation, and the owner will say “well, what did you want for that money?”

The only diving center in Georgia is located on the territory of Kvariati.

Sarpi is a resort on the very border with Turkey

The beaches in the village are also very ordinary, albeit with black sand. Quite a lot of garbage, but the water is clean and warm.

Map of Georgian sea resorts

For your convenience, we have marked all the main seaside resorts of Georgia on the map.

Nature has generously rewarded Georgia - an amazing country, in a small area of which there are majestic mountains, picturesque waterfalls, rivers and lakes, and beautiful caves. Many people are interested in whether there is a sea and a beach in Georgia? The picturesque Black Sea coast stretches for 94.5 km, and on this stretch are located the best beaches of Georgia - pebbly, sandy and even black.

Pebble beaches of Georgia

Many vacationers believe that the best beaches are pebble beaches. Undeniable advantages:

  • The water in them is clean, not disturbed, and transparent even at the peak of the season.
  • The ubiquitous sand does not stick to the skin.
  • The children are clean and enjoy playing with the beautiful pebbles.
  • Health benefits - while walking on stones, the feet are massaged, this has a beneficial effect on diseases such as flat feet, migraines, and bronchial asthma. Also, walking on pebbles normalizes blood circulation, which has a positive effect on the entire body and its organs.

Kobuleti

Kobuleti is a small seaside town in the Adjara region, 25 km from Batumi, more suitable for a relaxing family holiday. Thanks to the subtropical climate - hot summers, mild winters and high humidity - citrus and eucalyptus groves, tea plantations, and bamboo grow in the town. The season lasts from May to October.

Kobuleti was popular back in Soviet times, when the construction of sanatoriums and holiday homes began. And since 2010, the town became a free economic and tourist zone, and then mass development began. Now on this coast of Georgia there are many fashionable hotels, restaurants and cafes. The construction of tourist complexes continues actively even now.

Kobuleti is one of the main resorts; the coastline here is more than 10 km long. This place was chosen by both local residents and visitors from neighboring countries.

Mostly on the shore there are small pebbles, but there are places with large pebbles, large cobblestones, and coarse sand.

The coast of Kobuleti is conventionally divided into three parts: southern, central and northern.

  • The water in the southern one is not as clean as in the neighboring ones - in this place the Achkva River flows into the sea. There are many cafes and restaurants along the coast. It has a long promenade, and the bank itself is quite narrow.
  • On the central beach, in some places there are cobblestones under your feet, which make movement and rest a little difficult, this also applies to the southern part, there is infrastructure;
  • The coast in the northern part of Kobuleti is spacious, sandy and pebble, and a pine grove grows on the shore. Unlike other parts, there is practically no infrastructure here, but there are an order of magnitude fewer vacationers.

Mtsvate-Kontti or Cape Verde is a small Georgian town 8 km from Batumi. The resort is home to the Batumi Botanical Garden, one of the largest natural attractions in Georgia. On the slopes of the huge park you can see magnificent plants from different parts of the planet.

You can reach the central beach of the resort by turning left at the main entrance to the Botanical Garden and going a little lower. There is a cafe and it is possible to rent umbrellas and sun loungers. The length of the pebble coast in this place is about 500 m.

The water in Cape Verde has an emerald hue. The abundance of greenery gives this place clean and fresh air.

At the northern end of the shore there is a rusty staircase (it is unsafe to move along it, there have been accidents) leading along the rocks to another, wild beach. You can also reach it by water, admiring the picturesque grottoes along the way.

Kvariati

Kvariati is a small village 14 km from Batumi and 2 km from the border with Turkey. A small village has a beach - wide, quiet and calm; Georgians themselves love this place very much. This is thanks to the cleanest sea, fresh air and picturesque mountains. Its length is about 1 km, large pebbles.

There are cafes and organized tourist attractions. The highlight of Quadriati is located in the depths of the sea - the rich underwater world attracts diving enthusiasts, for whom there is a diving center, the only one in Georgia. In it you can:

  • take a training course;
  • rent scuba diving equipment and spearfishing guns;
  • dive into the sea and look at sunken ships.

Sarpi

Sarpi is a small village on the border with Turkey. The sea here, as in neighboring Kvariati, is clean.

The beach is not very long - about 500 m, not wide, large pebbles and very picturesque - surrounded by mountains covered with vegetation. When entering the sea, the depth suddenly begins, so vacationers with children need to be more careful. The coast of Sarpi from the north abuts against rocks, from which vacationers love to jump, and against a breakwater, which was built to preserve the route running nearby. To the south is the border with Turkey.

A holiday here, quiet and peaceful, far from entertainment, is suitable for the older generation of holidaymakers.

Chakvi

The quiet Georgian village of Chakvi is located exactly in the middle between Batumi and Kobuleti, the population is about 20 thousand people. Chakvi is famous for its tea plantations, which appeared at the beginning of the 20th century. Tourist infrastructure began to develop only a few years ago - several hotels, restaurants and even a nightclub appeared.

The coastline in Chakvi is extensive – wide and long. Together with the beach of Buknari (the neighboring village), it occupies a 7-kilometer stretch from the Botanical Garden to the Petra Fortress.

The entrance to the water is gentle, the pebble stones, especially near the water, are very small, and in some places mixed with sand. Vacationers with children will find it comfortable. Only the four-star Oasis Chakvi hotel has infrastructure and entertainment.

Gonio

The resort town 15 km from Batumi attracts vacationers with the ancient Roman fortress of the same name. A calm and quiet place with a long shore covered with large pebbles. The sea here is clean and transparent. Gonio has both public and hotel beaches. There are no barriers, so you can move freely between them.

The coastline in the northern part is far from ideal - there is a truck stop nearby and a lot of stray dogs. In the southern part, closer to Kvariati, the beach is better, it is flat, entry into the water is safe - ideal for families with children.

Batumi

Batumi - the most popular beaches of Georgia since the times of the USSR are located here, but in the photo of the capital of Adjara from Soviet times you cannot recognize the modern, beautiful city that it has now become. Considerable amounts of money were invested in the development of Batumi, and not in vain - in 2012, according to the American Academy of Hospitality, it was recognized as the best new resort in the world.

The coastline, covered with pebbles, stretches for 7 km and is 30 m wide. It is conventionally divided into four parts: central, suburban, wild beaches, as well as the beach in the area of the new boulevard.

  • The most important Batumi beach is in the central part - the municipal Batumi beach (Batumi beach). The infrastructure here is well developed - you can easily rent sun loungers and umbrellas, have a delicious lunch in any of the many cafes and restaurants, there are changing cabins and showers. Entry into the water is smooth. Reviews from tourists say that Batumi beach is the best beach in Batumi, although during the season there can be a lot of people here.
  • The shore in the suburban part, next to the Opera House, is quite long, but not wide - about 20 m. There is a road nearby. There is no infrastructure.
  • The beach in the new district of Batumi attracts tourists with its water park and singing fountains. This place rents sunbeds and umbrellas, and there is a place to eat. There are significantly fewer vacationers than in the central part. There are several tennis, volleyball and football courts.
  • Batumi wild beach is located next to the airport. Its width is about 30 m. The pebbles are large, and the entrance to the sea is quite steep. There are almost no hotels here, only the private sector, the place is remote from the center, so there are very few vacationers.

Sandy beaches of Georgia

Georgia also has something to offer for those who like to sunbathe on the soft sand. Moreover, such beaches have many advantages:

  • lie comfortably just by laying a towel;
  • the entrance to the sea is shallower and flatter, and therefore the water warms up better;
  • You can play beach sports - volleyball, football, handball, or just go for a run along the beach.

Sandy beaches in Georgia are not as common as pebble ones, but there are several places that deserve attention.

Ureki is a small village in Georgia, located 50 km north of Batumi and 2 km from the sea. The beach is called Magnetiti, one of the best beaches in Georgia. It is famous for its dark gray magnetic sands. A great place for those who like to sunbathe on soft sand with health benefits.

Magnetiti Beach is covered with famous sand with healing properties. It helps with diseases of the joints, cardiovascular system, lungs, problems with the musculoskeletal system, etc.

Since Soviet times, there have been many sanatorium and resort institutions in Ureki, but after the collapse of the USSR everything here fell into disrepair. You can find photos of the village from those times - the sight is depressing. The village began to recover after it was declared a free tourist zone.

The entrance to the water is gentle - 20 m from the shore up to the waist. There are many cafes and shops around, there are volleyball courts and children's playgrounds. Marine entertainment organized; Vacationers are invited to ride a banana boat, catamaran or scooter. At the height of the season it can be a bit crowded here - the warm sea and sand attract many tourists.

The resort village of Anaklia is the youngest and most promising holiday destination for tourists in Georgia. Just a few years ago there was a small provincial village here. Then the Georgian authorities began to work closely on its development; construction was entrusted to the architect from Spain Alberto Domingo. He developed the project for the entire city.

Anaklia is one of the best European-level holiday destinations - high-class hotels, European architecture and good roads. This is a modern resort with a dry climate, azure sea, surrounded by subtropical vegetation.

The total length of the coast reaches 5 km, and its width is 80 m. This is one of the few sandy beaches in Georgia. The color of the sand is dark gray, like on Magnetity, but it does not have magnetic properties. Near the hotels, on the left bank, the beach is sandy, and on the side of the entertainment complexes it is pebble. The entrance to the sea is smooth everywhere, traditional entertainment is present.

Anaklia is the most environmentally friendly place among the resorts in Georgia; there is always clean air and a clear sea. The village is located:

  • away from major cities;
  • noisy highways;
  • factories;
  • ports.

Grigoleti is located 57 km from Batumi and 7 km from the village of Ureki. The peculiarity is that the pine forest comes almost close to the water. The air here is fresh, the sea is clean, and there is sand on the beach. However, reviews indicate a fairly large amount of garbage on the shore and packs of stray dogs. But if you choose to stay at a hotel, you will have at your disposal a beautiful, clean and well-groomed beach, surrounded by pine trees, which is perfect for a quiet family holiday.

The village of Shekvetili has only recently begun to be rebuilt as a resort. Hotels have begun to be built, but the infrastructure has not yet been established. Shekvetili is located 45 kilometers north of Batumi and 8 kilometers from the village of Ureki.

The beach in Shekvetili stretches for 3 km, it is wide, sandy, and pine trees grow closely. The approach is gentle, there are few vacationers. In the northern part of the village there are several cafes and shops, in some places beach activities are offered, but in the rest of the village there is no infrastructure.

About 300 km of coastal zone, lush greenery, wonderful climate and endless sunny days - the best beaches in Georgia will allow you to have a great rest and restore your health. Arriving in this hospitable country, a tourist will be able to enjoy the healing mountain air, the clean Black Sea and a carefree holiday. Which beach to choose is up to you to decide.

Batumi beaches – photos, descriptions, features

The capital of Adjara welcomes guests with its powerful energy, excellent infrastructure and subtropical climate. The peculiarity is that the beaches of Batumi spread over a huge area that covers the city with almost 10 kilometers of coastline (pebbles everywhere). In this case, the tourist himself chooses the level of comfort and privacy:

  • Central Beach- a crowded place where life is in full swing around the clock. There are all the amenities for vacationers: rental of any equipment both for a comfortable stay on the shore and for practicing any sport. There are many cafes, luxury restaurants, shops, nightclubs and sports grounds on the territory. Children will not be bored either - rides, entertainment programs, trampolines, etc. The beach is located in the city center.
  • New Boulevard– it is a little distant from the epicenter of entertainment in Batumi. But this is compensated by the presence of a very beautiful park, which has a lot of interesting things for tourists. Modern sculptures, thematic figures and a picturesque lake. There is no shortage of cafes and shops, although they are a little far from the coast. The photo of the New Boulevard beach shows that there is all the necessary equipment - changing cabins, sun loungers, umbrellas, equipment rental. You need to get here either on foot (you can walk along the beach from the city center). Or use public transport. Bus No. 10, minibus No. 2. It is possible to rent a bicycle.
  • Wild beach(airport) is a real quiet corner for a secluded holiday in Batumi. The beach attracts with its unusual panoramas - large boulders and bizarre piles of stones. The pebbles here are large, but not sharp. The entrance to the sea is quite steep, the bottom is relief. The beach is not wide - up to 20 m, the water is cloudy due to the proximity of the river’s confluence with the sea. The advantage is that there are never many people, it is quiet, the beach will appeal to lovers of big waves and snow-white surf. You can get there by bus number 10 or by taxi.

If you are a fan of diving and windsurfing, or like to conquer rocky mountains, you can go to the beach Cape Verde. It is located just 9 km from Batumi. This is an amazingly beautiful place where summer reigns all year round, and subtropical plants delight with their lushness and greenery. Huge palm trees, cherry blossoms and unsurpassed flowers from all over the world - all this can be seen without interrupting your beach holiday. The coastal area is pebble, all the necessary infrastructure is present. Extreme sports enthusiasts will have the opportunity to climb bizarre rocks and see the lagoon from a bird's eye view. Feature – The Black Sea here has a bright emerald hue. The water is very clean, the bottom is flat.

Tourists note that the entire coastal area is quite clean and suitable for recreation. The main advantage is that there is virtually no precipitation or cold days during the season. There is always something to do on vacation; you can rent equipment or ride any type of sea transport.

The beaches of Georgia in Kobuleti are the treasure and pride of Adjara. The village is located in the Colchis lowland, thanks to which a unique climate has formed here. You won't face extreme winds or sweltering heat, unbearable humidity or cold nights. The surrounding mountains protect the famous resort from bad weather, preventing cold cyclones from penetrating the coast. The nature here is also amazing – a lot of plants and giant pines. The main asset is unsurpassed clean air, which perfectly restores health.

Photos of Kobuleti beaches resemble bright pictures of a carefree tropical island. The hot sun always shines here, and the huge forest-covered mountains give you a feeling of security. The coastal zone is covered with small pebbles. Here, the Georgian beaches are all municipal, so they are very clean and equipped. They stretch for almost 9 km; you can find completely deserted places. The resort is located 20 km from Batumi.

People come here not only to sunbathe and soak up the sun - this is a real hospital! The wonderful air, mineral waters, and luxurious climate help to get rid of many diseases, restore immunity, and cure chronic lung diseases. During the high season there is always somewhere to have fun. Lots of discos, cafes, restaurants. On the beach you can ride banana boats, catamarans, etc. The embankment is not very equipped, but there are areas where it is very cozy and beautiful.

Sarpi is a very small village, which is practically adjacent to the border with Turkey. The place is quiet and cozy. The sea is very clean, the beach is small (about 800 m long and 80 m wide). The infrastructure is not particularly developed, but there are few tourists, there is no noise of the big city. The pebbles are average, the coastal area is very picturesque and clean. You can get there from Batumi by bus No. 16 (25 km).

On the beach in Sarpi there is a large rock from which vacationers love to jump into the water. If you're lucky, you can meet professional divers who are ready to take you on an underwater excursion for a small fee. A boat was sunk not far from the shore, which has now become an object of interest for adventurers.

Sarpi beach in Georgia, which you see in the photo, is recognized as one of the most environmentally friendly. Yes, and you can admire Turkey. Not far (1.5 km) from the beach there is a picturesque waterfall.

The sea is amazingly clean, its temperature even at the end of September reaches +25 +26C. There are not very many people, you can always rent a sunbed (from 2 GEL). The beach is not very long, but there are stunningly beautiful mountains and rocks around. There is an opportunity to take a boat ride and go far out to sea (the locals offer their own transport). The vacation is budget-friendly if you rent a room in the private sector - from 15 GEL per day.

Photos of black beaches of Ureki

The most popular beach resort in western Georgia invites you to relax. These are amazing places where eucalyptus and pine forests lie around the warm Black Sea. The heady aroma of vegetation in tandem with the purest mountain air turned Ureki into a real pearl of the country. And that's not all the treasures. Only here you can soak up the unique magnetic sands! The amazingly fine and black sand has healing properties. It is black in color and actively affects all internal organs. According to scientists, it enhances metabolic processes in the body, accelerates the regeneration of connective tissues, and has an excellent effect on the functions of the musculoskeletal system. And, of course, it’s nice to lie on it.

In Ureki, there are no pebbles or large stones on the beaches; almost everywhere the entrance to the sea is gentle, and the depth increases slowly. The waters are clean and warm until the end of September. The resort is well equipped and has all the necessary infrastructure. There are many cafes, shops and specialized sanatoriums and health resorts.

An excellent place for family recreation and recreation. Just stunning scenery and very unusual sand. There is no need to rent sunbeds. There is not much entertainment on the shore, but there is no noise either. I really liked the local flavor and the excellent market, where you can always buy inexpensive fruit and fish.

Beaches of Gonio

This amazing resort is hidden just 11 km from bustling Batumi. In addition to the warm sea, you will be greeted by a stunning eucalyptus grove. It will not only amaze with its riot of color, but also with its amazing healing aroma.

The beach in Gonio is pebbly; there is a parallel embankment that stretches for two kilometers. The coastal zone is quite wide, the sea is clean and shallow. You can safely relax with children, the bottom is not embossed. The climate is warm, there is little rainfall and there are no cold winds. The attraction of the area is the oldest fortress in Georgia, Gonio. Holidays are budget-friendly, there are hotels and good bungalows, the opportunity to rent housing in the private sector (from 15 GEL per day). It is convenient to get to the resort by bus from Batumi No. 101. Feature - the beaches are divided into municipal and private (hotel areas). Although this distinction is arbitrary, you can relax freely anywhere.

Vacationers really like the gently sloping shore; you need to walk several tens of meters to reach the depth. There are no sharp boulders, little trash, and the coastal area is regularly cleaned. There are a lot of people during the season, the air is very clean. We were also pleased with the low prices for food and equipment rental. Tourists note that there is no sweltering heat here due to the proximity of high mountains. Precipitation is rare, and the sea warms up very quickly in spring.

Beaches of Georgia in Chakvi – photos and reviews from vacationers

Do you want to see a corner with Georgian beaches, which is completely surrounded by greenery, and tea plantations are rampant on the slopes of mountains and hills? To this small village not far from Batumi (17 km). The peculiarity is that the beaches are covered with small pebbles, and at the water’s edge you can walk on the fine yellow sand. The coastal zone is quite wide in some places, reaching 100-120 m. There are both municipal beaches (equipped, sun loungers, umbrellas) and wild ones. The sea here is a striking blue color. Many people come here for the big waves.

There are cozy cafes and a restaurant on the shore. The chefs' specialty is excellent grilled fish and delicious white wine. Accommodation is affordable and there are hotels and budget inns. You can get there from Batumi by taxi or minibus.

Very beautiful place, magnificent mountains. The main thing is a clean sea, there are no rivers flowing nearby and surprisingly large waves (not everywhere). The length of the beach reaches 6 km, so there is always the opportunity to retire. The locals are friendly and ready to sell everything they need. Very interesting walks near the tea plantations; for a small fee you are allowed to pick tea! There is practically no entertainment.

Beaches of Kvariati

If you have long dreamed of doing exciting diving on the best beaches of Georgia in the crystal clear waters of the Black Sea, this is the place for you. The resort attracts tourists who want to scuba dive. In addition, there is a diving center where you can get training and rent professional equipment.

The beach in Kvariati is pebbly, there are sun loungers and umbrellas, changing cabins, and toilets. The entrance to the sea is gentle. Kvariati is famous for its healing climate - nervous and gynecological diseases have been successfully treated for many years. The infrastructure is satisfactory. There are entertainment venues, cafes, clubs and attractions for children.

The coastal zone is quite wide, the sea is very clean even in the evening. There is practically no garbage, as well as annoying traders. The climate is excellent, the sun almost always shines. You can relax inexpensively - in the private sector prices start from 10-12 GEL per day. In hotels from 20 GEL.

Beaches of Anaklia

This is a very young resort located in Western Georgia. It will greet you with amazingly clear sea and excellent sandy beach. The 8 kilometers of coastal zone offer excellent recreational areas with attractive panoramas. A yacht club, many hotels, and entertainment venues are waiting for their guests to give them a great mood.

The resort plan was developed by a Spanish architect, who designed a modern embankment and completely changed the geometry of the coast. There is a huge amusement park for every taste and an impressive pedestrian bridge.

The resort cannot yet boast of an influx of tourists, but connoisseurs of sandy beaches and clear seas relax here.

Holidays at the resort are very eventful and interesting, there is something to keep children busy. There are enough shops and cafes, the menu is very varied. The sea is amazingly clean - swim a little deeper and you can see the bottom and swimming fish! At the height of the season there are not many people; sunbed rental starts at 1.5 GEL per day.

We told you about the best beaches in Georgia, you saw photos that excite you and invite you to have a great vacation. This country is fraught with many pleasant surprises and, of course, shares stunning panoramas of the Black Sea, mountains and lush greenery.

Each of us, long before the summer season, begins to dream about a holiday abroad, about the clear azure waters of the sea, about amazing beaches and shade on sun loungers under tall palm trees. To prevent your vacation from turning into a living hell, we carefully think through all the nuances, estimate, etc.

Its beaches also play an important role in choosing a future country. It’s unlikely that anyone wants to sunbathe among a huge number of tourists or in completely unsuitable (lacking basic infrastructure) places.

A beach holiday in Georgia can be very pleasant only if you choose a cozy one that is most suitable for you. Depending on desires, the tourist will either enjoy the hot sand or receive a massage of the whole body (especially the feet) from pebbles generously scattered even at the bottom.

Some pebble beaches in Georgia are really unpleasant to walk barefoot, and every entry into the sea turns into a small problem. The photo shows a beach in the Cape Verde area. Swimming there is very pleasant and comfortable.

How are Georgian beaches different?

Among the huge number of beaches in Georgia, there are still certain, but minor, differences. First of all, they include different depths of entry into the water. It is possible to have both a smooth descent, convenient for children and those who are poor swimmers, and a rapid increase in depth - more interesting for skilled swimmers.

The rich selection of entertainment in the seaside city of Batumi provides the resort with a steady flow of tourists from all over the world.

Also, in different parts of the coast of Georgia, the sea water temperature differs slightly. It seemed warmest to us on the coast of Cape Verde, located below. And on the beach in, for example, almost until the end of September it is as comfortable to swim as in the summer.

If you love a variety of sea activities, then you should pay attention to the resort. After all, it is where the largest number of such places are located. Other resorts in the country, unfortunately, cannot boast such a rich entertainment program for adults and children.

But the villages Gonio and Kvariati, located nearby, are quieter and calmer. They have one beach, quite clean, but poorly equipped. The sea is warm and clear. Here, too, there will be no less fantastic views from the embankment, thanks to the cliffs close to the villages. In Kvariati there is currently the only diving center in the country. Prices for housing and food, as in Sarpi, are slightly overpriced. Nearby, in the village of Gonio, is located.

The next resort, beloved by us personally and causing many controversial opinions, is called Batumi. This is one of the most modern and well-equipped cities in Georgia. Batumi has several beaches, united by one common promenade (its length is about 7 kilometers). In Batumi itself and near it there are many different types. This is where you will find the largest number of sea activities for adults and children. Almost all Batumi beaches are well equipped: there are changing cabins, fresh showers, toilets, rental of sun loungers and umbrellas; and relatively clean (they are cleaned every day, but due to the large number of vacationers in the afternoon, the beaches do not look very neat). The sea is not as clean as we would like, but, nevertheless, not dirty. The beaches are not crowded even in high season. Right on the embankment, hungry tourists, without any significant loss of finances, can have a good meal in a cafe or with the products that sellers carry past them.

The beaches of Georgia are not as clean as many would like. But in some villages (in the photo there is a beach near Chakvi) you don’t want to even go close to the embankment.

Village beach Chakvi small, quiet and cozy. And the sea, unlike the embankment, is clean and warm. A eucalyptus grove grows around Chakvi, so the air is constantly saturated with the appropriate smell. The beach infrastructure is poorly developed; entertainment options include the nearby Mtirala National Park and Botanical Garden.

Beach of a seaside town Kobuleti- second most popular among tourists after Batumi. It is believed that food and accommodation here are a little cheaper, the sea is cleaner, and there are fewer people (in fact, there are quite a lot of tourists on the beach). The infrastructure is well developed, but there are no attractions or interesting places nearby. One of the important features of Kobuleti beach is the presence of sandy areas, although with less healing sand than, for example, in Ureki.

Beaches of Georgia reviews

Victor's review of Georgian beaches

If you read about Georgian beaches on forums or social networks, you get a very mixed opinion. People who last vacationed in Georgia 3-5 years ago actively praise the beaches of Kobuleti, Sarpi, Ureki, Kvariati or Gonio. They say that it is clean, not crowded and very cheap. Many people advise living, for example, in Kobuleti and going to Batumi every day by taxi or minibus.

I personally strongly disagree with these tips and opinions. My personal experience may not be representative, but I have seen the following with my own eyes:

  • on beaches in small villages Very many people. They are simply crowded with vacationers
  • therefore, there is a lot of garbage, cigarette butts, plastic bags on the beaches, and the cleanliness of the sea leaves much to be desired
  • These villages are overcrowded with people, and therefore prices in shops and housing there are no longer low at all.

At the same time, in a resort, where in theory there should be a lot of people, the opposite situation is observed - there is plenty of space on the beaches, the water is cleaner than in the surrounding villages, and prices are the same or lower. In general, over the past few years the situation has changed dramatically. I think that a big role in this was played by the huge number of thrifty travelers who have recently begun to vacation in Georgia - in small villages, where housing can still be found a little cheaper.

If we talk about Georgia in general, then it is not well suited for a beach holiday. It’s much more interesting here to enjoy the amazingness and communicate with hospitable locals. Well, the sea is just a pleasant bonus and an opportunity to cool off in the midst of the summer heat.

Alina's review of beaches in Georgia

Despite the fact that many people prefer to choose quiet villages like Kobuleti or Kvariati for their vacation, we focused our attention on Batumi, which we never regretted later. We swam mainly on city beaches, which at the height of the season (in August) turned out to be quite free and clean. I especially liked the presence of developed infrastructure along the entire coast: you can freely rent a sun lounger and umbrella, there are changing cabins, showers and toilets. The only thing that was a little annoying was the pebble bottom at the entrance to the water and on the beach itself. Nevertheless, we had a great rest without special slippers (many people are forced to buy or take shoes with them for comfortable entry into the sea).

We advise you to pay attention to the beach at the botanical garden of the village of Cape Verde. You can get there by purchasing a ticket to the park or by walking past the entrance on the left. The beach is also pebble, clean, and the water in the sea next to the garden is very warm and clear. It is not very popular among tourists due to the ignorance of many about it, so it is practically deserted.

The beaches of Sarpi and Kobuleti may have once been cozy and uncrowded. During the season they are filled with vacationers.

Quite recently, one of the Georgians told us about a wonderful beach in the village of Shekvetili (not very popular, but therefore still clean and beautiful). Judging by her words, the sea there is amazing, and nature allows you to combine business with pleasure - admire stunning views and heal your health.

Map of beach holidays in Georgia

The map shows the most visited and some of the most comfortable beaches in Georgia, described in this article. When you open the icons, you can see brief information about the resort. The map is conveniently scaled, zooming in and out by scrolling the mouse wheel or clicking on the white dashed rectangle in the right corner.

The joint Black Sea coast of Georgia and Abkhazia stretches for 315 kilometers. Summers here are very warm, and the climate allows the swimming season to last 5-7 months. As for treatment with the local climate, it is generally year-round here. Therefore, on the eve of the next summer, it is useful to study the TOP of the best seaside resorts in Georgia.

1. Batumi

This is the most important Georgian resort city, where you can enjoy the clear sea and sun, as well as sightseeing and shopping in numerous shops. As for attractions, there are many of them here: ancient cathedrals and modern singing fountains, the famous botanical garden, the Argo cable car, the embankment, Neptune Square and other objects.
Batumi is one of the most expensive cities in Georgia, but even here you can find places that are no more expensive than in Tbilisi. An inexpensive way to fill your stomach is to buy local, hearty and delicious national pastries - khachapuri (cheese flatbreads, sometimes with eggs), you can buy them on every corner here.
The disadvantages include too high prices, pebble beaches that not everyone likes, and the sea that is not very clean at the height of the season. But the cleanliness of the city itself, numerous restaurants offering Georgian cuisine, and unique architecture, despite all the shortcomings, attract a huge number of vacationers to Batumi every year. This resort is chosen for family holidays because it has all the infrastructure and a variety of entertainment. Young active recreation enthusiasts also come here.

2. Cape Verde

Mtsvane-Kontskhi or Cape Verde is one of the most beautiful Black Sea resorts in Georgia, located 9 kilometers from Batumi. It has long become a popular holiday destination, where both locals and tourists strive to get to.
This cape was called green because it is covered with lush greenery all year round. The local subtropical climate is characterized by warmth and plenty of moisture, so tropical plants grow wild here. The botanical garden spreads over 120 hectares, and its collection includes up to 5,000 plant species, half of which are trees and shrubs. 104 plant species are endemic to the Caucasus. Japanese sakura and blue eucalyptus, bamboo and cacti, giant spruce and palm trees coexist here. The warm climate is conducive to sunbathing and treatment of respiratory system ailments.
This place began to be improved at the end of the 19th century - a world-famous botanical garden was laid out on the picturesque slopes of Cape Verde, which receives many thousands of visitors every year. The coastal strip of Cape Verde is especially picturesque. The local small-pebble beaches have both regular beachgoers and lovers of windsurfing and scuba diving. Extreme sports enthusiasts retire to wild beaches among the rocks.

3. Kobuleti

Kobuleti, a resort located in the Colchis Lowland, is considered the pearl of Adjara. There is a unique microclimate here, different from the seaside. Here you can not only enjoy the beautiful scenery, sunbathe on a beach with clean pebbles and breathe in the fresh sea breeze, but also improve your health.
Kobuleti is located 20 kilometers from Batumi, its resort area stretches along the Black Sea for more than 10 kilometers. The climate here is very mild, subtropical, and pine groves perfectly ionize the air, warm sea and hot sun - everything you need for first-class relaxation and improved health.
Like everywhere else in Georgia, Kobuleti has municipal beaches, so they are well-groomed and clean. The clear sea and small pebbles allow you to enjoy a beach holiday, and the black iron-rich sands have natural healing properties.
As for various types of treatment, in Kobuleti they treat with sea air, sea water and thalassotherapy. Scientists have found that sea water is a quarter more effective than fresh water in improving skin performance.
People who love silence, simplicity and need to improve their health, who do not like the overly crowded beaches of Ureki, prefer to come to Kobuleti to relax.

4. Gonio

Tourists come to Gonio not only to swim in the clear sea and climb the mountain slopes, but also to look at the eucalyptus grove located along the road, which spreads healing aromas around the area. The local beaches, as elsewhere in the vicinity of Batumi, have large pebbles. Those who are tired of the eternal city noise and want to have only one entertainment in the form of the sea prefer to relax here. There are small cafes here, and you can rent beach umbrellas and sun loungers. And when the sea gets boring, you can go to Batumi by minibus (half an hour’s drive) or go up to the Gonio-Apsaros fortress, which is surrounded by an aura of myths and legends. Here is the grave in which the Apostle Matthew, whose gospel was included in the Bible, is believed to be buried.

5. Kvariati

Thanks to its excellent location and the combination of sea air and mountain air, the resort of Kvariati has become one of the favorites on the Black Sea coast. There is very clean sea water here, which attracts numerous vacationers. This place is located 14 kilometers south of Batumi, very close to the Turkish border. Here, a clean pebble beach stretches for a kilometer. The sea here is deep, which attracts divers who enjoy exploring the local underwater world. Here, therefore, at the end of the beach, near the rocks, the only scuba diving center in all of Georgia is organized, where you can get instructions, dive with fins and a mask and explore different routes, for example, to a sunken ship.
But in Kvariati you can not only have fun and relax; here, as in other resorts in Adjara, you can treat vascular, gynecological and central nervous system diseases.

6. Ureki

Ureki is considered a very good climatic resort. It is located 50 kilometers north of Batumi, in the Ozurgeti region. The proximity to the warm sea gave this area a humid subtropical climate.
The local coastline is a strip of eucalyptus and pine groves that add a subtle, magnificent healing aroma to the sea breeze. The Ureki resort is a unique place for treatment and active recreation thanks to the generous local nature, which gave it not only sea and sun, but also velvety fine sand. The uniqueness of Ureki is the presence of a sandy beach, and the sand here is not ordinary, but with magnetite (the so-called “magnetic sands”). According to experts, local magnetic sands strengthen the nervous system and musculoskeletal system, so it is not surprising that people with similar problems come here.
The healing properties of magnetic sands were already known in ancient times - the ancient Egyptians, Hellenes and Indian yogis treated them with them. Modern medicine has mastered a separate physiotherapeutic method of treatment - magnetic therapy. On the Black Sea coast such sands are found in Bulgaria and Georgia. Georgian sands usually contain 2-3% magnetite, but there are places where layers in the upper layers contain up to 70% of it. In Bulgaria, magnetic sand placers are wider than those in the Caucasus, but they have a lower magnetite content. Therefore, Georgian black magnetic sands can be called a unique phenomenon.

7. Grigoleti

In the southwest of the Colchis Lowland there is one of the most popular Black Sea resorts in Georgia, Grigoleti. It is sandwiched between the waters of the Black Sea and the beautiful Caucasian peaks. For the most part, the local coastline is covered with pine groves. Grigoleti beach also has magnetic sand, which has a healing effect for rheumatic and joint diseases. Not far from here is Lake Grigoleti. According to ancient Greek mythology, Queen Medea lived here and the Golden Fleece was located.

8. Anaklia

In western Georgia there is the climatic resort of Anaklia with a clear sea, sandy beach and dry climate. The coastline here stretches for 8 kilometers, and the resort itself is located 147 kilometers north of Batumi. This resort is still very young and therefore is rapidly developing. When a yacht club and the first high-class hotel opened here in 2011, Anaklia was given the status of a city. For the construction of the resort, the Georgian authorities attracted the architect from Spain Alberto Domingo, who adjusted the coastline to build an embankment and laid out an extensive amusement park here. In addition, he also built the longest pedestrian bridge in Europe, 540 meters long, to the village of Ganmukhuri, which is located on the opposite bank of the Enguri River.
Currently, the construction of modern tourist facilities and hotels continues on the coast. A free industrial zone and a deep-sea port should appear here, which should contribute to the prosperity of the region not only in tourism, but also in economic terms.

9. Chakvi

The small and green resort of Chakvi is located on the coast of Adjara, from here 17 kilometers to Batumi. There is a pebble beach, and sand with small shells is found only at the very coastline.
The name of the resort is associated with a culture such as tea, which has been grown here for quite a long time. It is no coincidence that Chakvi is called the capital of Georgian tea. Tea plantations here occupy a fairly large area. In addition to tea, Japanese tangerines are grown here, and there are also bamboo thickets.
Those tourists who want to relax in “savage” tents at sea in Georgia, but don’t know the best place to do this, can safely head to Chakvi. After all, there are many places where you can put up tents without going far from the sea, since the area here is quite wild. But here, accordingly, there are few places where you can go to have fun. The only attraction is the house of the Chinese Lau Jan Jau - the man who first started growing tea here. He lived here in the first quarter of the last century, and now his house is completely abandoned and is not guarded by anyone. As is already clear, here you can find a calm and measured holiday; different groups of tourists can afford to settle at a considerable distance from each other, so this is a paradise for lovers of silence. It’s especially convenient to come here by car; you can also bring your children. Food and shelter in Chakvi, which is not spoiled by “cool” vacationers, are very affordable - at the height of the season, two people here can live on 5,000 rubles a day.

We have an established stereotype that Georgian cuisine consists entirely of meat - satsivi, shish kebab, kharcho. But in fact, its basis is...

10. Sarpi

The beach of this place is considered the cleanest on the entire Georgian Black Sea coast. From this small Adjara town, Batumi is only 20 kilometers away, so people come here for weekends in the summer from neighboring cities in Adjara, including from Batumi itself. The beach here is not very long - only 500 meters, but it is wide - 100 meters, which is convenient. It is covered, like most Adjarian beaches, with pebbles. The stormy Chorokhi River coming down from the mountains near Batumi is the culprit for the turbidity of the sea water there, but in the Sarpi area there is a sea current from the south, which makes the water near Sarpi beach especially clean. In summer, the water has time to warm up well, remaining clean throughout the entire swimming season. Young people are very fond of jumping into the water from a cliff. Divers often visit here as there is a diving center here.
An interstate highway runs between the beach and the residential part of the village of Sarpi. The Georgian-Turkish border is very close, or rather, it literally divides the village into two parts, so the beach on one side abuts the checkpoint.
Sarpi can be called a quiet town; it is more conducive to a relaxed beach holiday, quiet contemplation of waterfalls and mountain landscapes. There are very beautiful sunrises and sunsets here. Additional comfort can be considered the presence of sun loungers and umbrellas on the beach. But there is no smell of club life here, and all the fuss is connected only with the presence of a border.
