The best baits at this time are spinners or jigs bait. But the most important thing is to choose its size as large as possible in order to attract a predator.

Spinning fishing is very popular among fishermen, especially in the autumn, as the predators’ bite intensifies before winter.

Depending on the presence of algae in the reservoir, autumn is divided into two periods:

The first period refers to September and early October, when there is still quite a lot of vegetation in the reservoirs and it does not allow the fisherman to make smooth fishing. During such a period, baits such as minnow-class wobblers perform well. With a length of ten to fifteen centimeters, they are superficial and do not go to great depths when deployed, which allows them to be used in areas with active vegetation. And when the grass in the reservoir begins to settle and recede, but the water is still warm enough and therefore the pike continues to hunt throughout the entire territory of the reservoir, wobblers of this brand can be fished in shallow bays, where a large number of plants impede fishing in the summer.
The second fishing period is longer and starts from the beginning of October, when vegetation practically disappears in reservoirs, and continues until the beginning of frost, when ice appears on reservoirs. Spoon spinners perform well here.

Pike fishing in September.

September is the month when the predator's gluttony is just beginning. If the beginning of the month turns out to be warm enough, then you should not expect much activity from the pike ahead of time. The active period begins with a decrease in water temperature, at which time the fish require much more nutrients to maintain a comfortable existence. This is where the increasing need for food arises.

Biting activity increases in proportion to the decrease in water temperature this month.

It should be noted that in September there is still quite a lot of vegetation in the reservoirs, so you should look for pike along the banks along its edge; it also likes to hide, waiting for its prey, in bays along reed thickets.

Towards the end of the month, the grass in the reservoirs settles and the pike changes its ambush sites. At this time, it can be found along the edges, in snags; it is often possible to find a hidden predator near bridge supports.

If you are on a small river, then you should look for places at the bends of the river, making maneuvers from the side of the steep bank. Pay attention to places where trees grow along the banks; pike really like to camouflage themselves in their shade. When fishing in such places, it is recommended to use crawler baits, whose movements in the water are very similar to those of a frog.

You should also pay attention to jig baits, which you cannot do without if you want to catch a real trophy specimen for your fishing collection. Mid-autumn is the most favorable time for pike fishing enthusiasts. This is the time when you don’t need to walk along the shore for a long time and look for the place where it is hiding, you don’t need to experiment with a bunch of different baits. Perhaps October is my favorite month for fishing for pike with a spinning rod.

The main reason is most likely the weather. This month it becomes more or less stable, there are no large temperature changes, sudden pressure surges and constant changes in winds. Which of course directly affects the behavior of the fish. Stable coolness at night and slight warming during the day do not particularly affect the water temperature in reservoirs. The day becomes much shorter, which also prevents even the warmest days from greatly affecting the water temperature. All these points come together to allow the pike to feel constant coolness, unlike September, when during a fairly warm and long day the water temperature can rise up to 18 - 20 degrees in some regions, and at night it can also drop sharply to almost 4 - 5 degrees. Which creates some discomfort for any fish.

The next reason is the lack of a large amount of grass. By the end of September, most of the grass dies, and the remaining settles to the bottom. Which cannot but have a positive effect on spinning fishing. Firstly, retrieving becomes much easier, the need for non-snacking baits virtually disappears due to the lack of grass, and the spinner’s arsenal is seriously increased, which cannot but be beneficial. Also, the absence of vegetation gives this predator much more room for maneuver; its attacks become sharp and accurate. If you watch a video filmed underwater, the attack on the bait will seem similar to a torpedo attack at sea.

And of course, you shouldn’t lose sight of the autumn food. Pike, like all types of fish, is preparing for winter and October is perhaps its last month when all conditions are favorable for hunting. This is why she tries to get as much food as possible in order to create a maximum supply of nutrients for the winter.

Pike fishing in November.

November is the last autumn month. So to speak, the last chance for an angler to catch a pike in open water. It is divided into two periods:

Before the onset of frost, when it is quite difficult to catch pike, because due to the already too cold water, it goes into holes and begins to hunt there.
And for the period when frost sets in and the activity of pike drops to almost zero, as it goes to its winter quarters.

It should be noted that with good frosts at the end of November, ice already begins to appear on the rivers, but it is quite fragile, so you should not go out on it, it is better to wait a couple of weeks until it gains the necessary thickness for safe fishing (minimum thickness 4 centimeters).

Judging by the above, today we will talk specifically about the first half of the last autumn month.

Catching pike in November is not easy; to do this, you need to have information about the bottom topography and try to look for either edges or holes, where the predator is most likely located, waiting for its prey. You should also take into account the type of reservoir, current speed, speed of ice formation when frost sets in and other factors.
