5. Maayafushi Island Resort

Maayafushi is a simple Italian-style resort, with modest prices, high standards, and excellent snorkeling, operating in the style of the old Maldivian philosophy.

The small, oblong island is positioned almost perfectly from north to south. At the southern end of the island is the distinctive sandy tongue beach of Maayafushi, shorter and wider than before but still beautiful nonetheless. At the northern end of the island are overwater bungalows.

On the western side of the island you can enjoy the afternoon sun and also watch the sunset, while on the eastern side you can find excellent snorkeling spots located close to the beach. And it really is an excellent island for snorkeling. The corals stretch seven meters to where you can dive. The reefs are teeming with turtles, Malagasy night sharks, moray eels and schools of fish, and stingrays can also be seen occasionally.

6. Gangehi Island Resort

Opened in 2008 and nestled in one of the most seductive lagoons in the Maldives, Gangehi Island Resort offers a truly exclusive experience. The island can rightly be called a small paradise of rich vegetation and unusual architecture, which includes buildings made using ancient and expensive types of wood.
