The humanitarian orientation of the university has opened up new prospects in the field of training bachelors and masters in the field of physics and mathematics education, natural sciences and humanities, social sciences, education and pedagogy, culture and art, economics and management, and the service sector.

In 2011, the Center for Support of Vocational Education was established within the structure of the university, the purpose of which is to ensure accessibility of higher and additional vocational education for people with disabilities and persons with disabilities to improve their quality of life, as well as create an accessible educational environment.

Moscow State University for the Humanities, being a leading center for humanitarian research in Murmansk region, implements research and conference projects within the framework of the federal target program “Scientific and scientific-pedagogical personnel of innovative Russia.” The research laboratory for sociological research, created on the basis of Moscow State University for the Humanities, operates within the framework of scientific grants and economic contracts. The university regularly organizes conferences and seminars in which the university's teaching staff, students and invited specialists take an active part.

The scientific and practical conferences “Ushakov Readings” (history) and “Maslov Readings” (philology) became traditional and became widely known among Russian scientists.

The scientific and methodological seminar “Humanitarian University: Man and the North” and the Murmansk branch of the Russian Philosophical Society, operating on the basis of Moscow State Humanitarian University, contribute to the building of common methodological fields both within the university and on the basis of interuniversity cooperation.

The university has created an extensive and multi-stage system for training scientific personnel. The university operates postgraduate and doctoral studies. In order to develop scientific and pedagogical potential and improve the training of teaching staff of the highest scientific qualifications, the Doctor of Science program for supporting scientific research projects was developed and adopted at Moscow State University for the Humanities. The Student Scientific Society was organized on the basis of Moscow State Humanitarian University.

The pride of the university is the team of scientific and pedagogical workers: 28 doctors of science and professors, 116 candidates of science and associate professors, many of whom were awarded distinctions in the fields of education, science, culture and sports for outstanding services related to achievements in professional work.

In the 2013-14 academic year, the “Public Lectures at Moscow State University for the Humanities” project, organized with the support of the Government of the Murmansk Region, was successfully implemented.

According to the results of the All-Russian competition “Best educational programs of innovative Russia - 2013”, in which MSGU participated, the best programs included “010501.65 Applied Mathematics and Computer Science”, “030401.65 History”, “030601.65 - Journalism”, “040201.65 - Sociology”, “ 050102.65 - Biology", "050103.65 - Geography", "050201.65 - Mathematics", "050303.65 - Foreign language", "050101.65 - History", "050501.65 - Vocational training (by industry)", "050703.65 - Preschool pedagogy and psychology", “050706.65 - Pedagogy and psychology”, “050711.65 - Social pedagogy”.

International activities at Moscow State University for the Humanities are closely related to regional needs. As part of cooperation between Moscow State University for the Humanities and universities in Norway and Finland in the educational field, international undergraduate and graduate programs are supervised. Thus, at Moscow State University for the Humanities, in collaboration with the University of Nordland, it is implementing an international master’s program “Border Studies”; in collaboration with the University of Lapland and the University of Oulu, it is developing an international master’s program in the field of social work within the framework of the Barents Cross-Border University.

To implement innovative activities, new structures have been opened and developed at Moscow State University for the Humanities:

Students and teachers of Moscow State Humanitarian University actively participate in cultural events, creative competitions, intellectual games"What? Where? When?”, KVN. Many of these events have become traditional and are held annually. The university is actively working on social support for undergraduate and graduate students.
