Hundred-meter fountain in Khor Khalid on the map of Sharjah

The UAE, like most of the countries of the Middle East, “stands” on the richest oil and gas fields. Residents of the state respect the source of their well-being. That is why one of the symbols of the capital Sharjah has become a gigantic fountain - a symbol of an oil well.

The fountain in Khalid Lagoon can rightfully be called a masterpiece of human imagination. The third tallest in the world (second only to the fountains in Jeddah and Geneva), it flows directly from the bay.

The total width of the fountain reaches 220 meters, and the height is 100 meters. It would seem that from this power alone the memory will remain indelible impression. But the residents of Sharjah are used to surprising people - every day, starting at seven in the evening, the fountain presents a unique light and sound show to everyone. Laser effects and mesmerizing video projections show various stories about the history and development plans of Sharjah. The musical accompaniment corresponds to the large-scale show; the most popular modern and classical compositions are used.

The breathtaking water performance can be observed both from the embankment itself and at a distance, fortunately the height of the fountain allows this.

Near the fountain there are many restaurants and cafes, visiting which you can have a great time, having dinner and enjoying the gorgeous show.

Fountain near Sharjah Aquarium

The fountain near the Sharjah Aquarium is located on the embankment of the beautiful Khaled-Buheira lagoon, which can be reached on foot, there are beautiful squares, parks, a graceful mosque and a musical fountain with laser illumination. It began its work in 2012 and until now attracts more and more tourists.

Residents and visitors of Sharjah enjoy stunning water shows with laser effects and light video projections. Performances take place daily, from 20.30 to midnight, every half hour. The duration of the fountain “performance” lasts five minutes. The fountain is equipped with two huge screens, as well as the latest sound and lighting technology. It is located near the equally stunning Sharjah Aquarium.

Construction of the public park on the Al Majaz waterfront of the Khalid Lagoon began in 2010, commissioned by the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq). Large dancing fountains became the central attraction in the park.

In addition to fountains, the Al Majaz embankment park contains: a dozen restaurants and several dozen small fast foods, paths for jogging and cyclists, a sculpture park, a mosque, a huge “dry” Splash fountain (for a fee), areas for festive and cultural events, mini golf course. The project cost the Emirate of Sharjah 120 million dirhams.

The first performance of the fountains took place on February 24, 2012. The opening was attended by Princess Sheikhinya Budur bint Sultan Al Qasimi, the daughter of the ruling Emir of Sharjah and a member of the board of directors of Shurooq. It is strange that His Majesty Sheikh Sultan ibn Mohammed Al Qasimi did not open the attraction in person; he usually does not miss such events. Why wasn't he there? The media is silent.

Sharjah fountains VS Dubai fountains

Many tourists in Sharjah decide whether to limit themselves to local dancing fountains or still go to see the Dubai Fountains, we wrote about them in detail in the article “”. We would recommend watching both. But if you need to choose, let’s try to compare them objectively.

Sharjah Fountains consist of one long chain of water pumps, the total length of the installation is 220 meters. They are approximately two times smaller than the Dubai ones both in total length and in the number of pumps. The maximum height of fountain jets in Sharjah is 100 meters, versus 150 in Dubai.

In Sharjah, the jets create two giant screens of water onto which pictures are projected using lasers and video projectors. What happens, look at the photo above, click on the photo to enlarge.

This is where the main difference between the fountains of Dubai and Sharjah lies. In the Dubai show, the emphasis is on the dance of water jets, while in Sharjah the emphasis is on lasers and light.

Therefore, it is difficult to say which fountains are larger and more interesting; the shows are very different in essence. Watch both shows, because getting to Dubai from Sharjah is not very expensive and takes a long time, we wrote about this in the article “”.

Local pride - show "Ebru"

Fountains in Sharjah show a unique water and light show, which has no analogues in the world. It is based on the Turkish art technique “ebru”, when pictures are painted on a special thick solution with special paints, and then the drawing is transferred to paper. This technique is also known as “water marble”.

The main designer of the show was Garib Au, a recognized master of the Ebru technique from Istanbul. The show shows the process of creating unique ebru patterns - an indescribable spectacle. Do not miss.

Repertoire

In addition to the Ebru show, the fountains show 5 more show programs. The most impressive of them is the Sharjah Main Show, which is held in two versions - in Arabic and English.

All 6 performances are shown every day, just in different sequences. Arrive at 18-30 and you can watch all the show programs in one evening. There's plenty to do in between shows at Al Majaz Waterfront Park.
