It falls far short of 4 stars.
We vacationed with friends in Tel Aviv and came to the Red Sea in Eilat for a few days. It took a long time to choose the hotel. Of course, I wanted to save money and not end up in a shithole. Hotel prices were impressive. In the end, our choice was Laplaya Holitel Eilat 4*. The high rating on tophotels was decisive. For 4 nights, one room for two with breakfast and dinner was equivalent to 35 thousand rubles. 2 rooms - 70. Quite a hefty price, but in the photographs everything is very beautiful, the interior somehow reminded me of the Hilton. We thought, 5 minutes from the sea, there will probably be freshly squeezed juices, cleanliness and comfort... We'll pay more for comfort.
We arrived at the hotel a couple of hours before check-in time. But we were immediately accommodated in adjacent rooms, many thanks to the girls from the reception.
But the rooms were not at all impressive.
First of all, it's dirty. They took off their shoes at the threshold, went into the room, looked at their feet that had turned black and put on their shoes. After the call, an African cleaner came and cleaned both rooms in a couple of minutes. It is clear that under the beds, behind the bedside tables, under the table there was no washing at all. Skirting boards, corners - everything is terribly dirty.
Secondly, the furniture is old, pretty shabby, but working.
Thirdly, the rooms turned out to be much smaller than it seemed from the photographs. Probably half the size of the standard ones from Hilton. But there were no balconies at all. There is a fence right behind the balcony door. This is called a French balcony "in an elegant oriental style." The mattresses on the beds are very “not new”, sagging, creaky.
There is no soap or dental supplies in the bathroom. Shampoo and lotion in bottles, gel only in a dispenser in the shower stall. There is no hairdryer either. Bottled water is not available.
The pool is open from 9-17. This means that you won’t be able to swim there in the morning before breakfast. As, indeed, in the evening, coming from the beach. Apparently, it is for those who do not go to the sea.
About the sea. We didn't like the nearby beach, which is a 5-10 minute walk away. The sea is muddy, there is no sand, and there are no fish either. You have to go to the fish Coral Beach. It's about 15 minutes (35 shekels) by taxi. Or better yet, at the Princess Hotel, which is even further away. There the sea is transparent, colorful fish swim (how can you come to the Red Sea without fish?)
We decided to rent bicycles from the hotel to ride to the coral beach. They are issued from 10 and must be returned before 17. It’s inconvenient, but we adjusted. It turned out that they were all non-working. The wheels are flat, they all creak and fall apart. Why they are standing at all is unclear.
There is an airport next to the hotel. Day and night you can hear them taking off and landing. It's loud.
The Internet is available only in the lobby. Drinking water is also only available there.
The hotel's population is mostly pensioners, there are few Russian tourists.
Gym and sauna are paid - 20 shekels per person.
There are no smoking signs everywhere, but everyone around is smoking. By the pool and on the balconies. Israeli youths moved into the room next door, they smoke, all the smoke comes into our room. I called the reception, no result, they just became noisier. I didn’t want to start an international conflict.

Among the advantages of the hotel, I would like to note good food, a comfortable large restaurant, polite staff, a normal refrigerator with freezer, 32" TV.

Let me start by saying that, in my opinion, Israel is - dear country. And vacationing there is also very expensive (I’m not talking about 1-2-day excursions to Israel from Egypt or Turkey). Whether a holiday here is worth the money - everyone decides for himself. My summary will be at the end of the story)

We visited this hotel at the beginning of May 2016. Having looked at the hotel prices, I was a little shocked at first. Not only do 2-3 nights in 4* cost the same as a week's holiday in a good 5* (!) hotel in the same neighboring Egypt, on the same Red Sea, but this price also did not include meals! But, since we’ve decided to vacation in Eilat, it means we’re looking for something decent with the best possible price-quality ratio.

The choice fell on the small hotel La Playa. It is not located on the seashore, I don’t even know if its location can be called “3rd line from the sea”. In fact, it takes 10-15 minutes to walk to the water.

Price . On this moment a well-known service offers a price of $154 per double room per night + breakfast and $155 breakfast + dinner. For weekends or holidays, you need to book very early, they sell out quickly.

Reception . A day later they called me back to confirm my reservation. Upon arrival, we were greeted by a Russian-speaking employee at the reception desk. We checked in quickly and answered all questions. The room was on the third floor overlooking the pool, there was an elevator.

Number . The place itself is small, but very pleasant. More specifically, it is very small, it seems the smallest of all that I have seen))

The furniture is quite new, everything looks decent, but without being too chic. I really liked the paintings, and in the room and in the restaurant they are in the same style. There is plasma on the wall. There is Wi-Fi, and it’s quite good.

The balcony is in the French style, that is, you open the door and immediately behind it is a fence. There is a minibar, kettle and tea set. Naturally, the air conditioner works.

There are some nasty tiles in the shower that ruin the whole impression of the room.

There was a standard set of bar soap, a hair cap, and clean towels. I had to buy my own shower gel.

After the first shower, we discovered a huge puddle on the floor, which was reported to the woman doing the cleaning. She looked at us in such a way that we realized that this information was absolutely inappropriate for her. Well, okay, we will only spend a few nights there, and we didn’t want to spoil the mood at all.

View from the room . As I already noted, we were lucky with a view of the pool) You could swim in it from 9 to 17, it seems. As for me, this is a very inconvenient working time for vacationers.

The hotel is built in the shape of the letter U, around the same pool. There is very little territory as such and all of it fits into the frame:

On the other side we see part of the building where the reception and restaurant are located.

There are wicker chairs in the recreation area, but you need to sit in them carefully; they are often completely wet, as people jump into them in their wet swimming trunks.

Restaurant . It’s small, located behind the wall from the reception, literally separated from it by a wooden fence. At first I was a little in a stupor: when you stand and get ready, the aroma of the kitchen and the clatter of forks on plates comes at you. At first I didn’t believe my feelings, but yes, it was a restaurant.

The tables are literally right next to each other. I won’t complain about the food, according to rumors this is one of the more or less decent hotels in this regard) The only thing I want to note is that the breakfasts here are kosher (milk), and on Shabbat there is no cook frying eggs and the coffee machine stands, bashfully covered with an ugly rag.

Situation . Quite noisy and crowded. Probably, this impression is caused by the fact that the hotel area is still small and there are not enough sun loungers. In the evening, young people were noisy in the next block. Closing the balcony helped us, but I don’t know whether it helped the people in the rooms next to them.

The hotel is practically adjacent to the airport runway. But the planes didn’t bother us at all.

where to go . There is a shopping center with an ice skating rink 5 minutes from the hotel. You can also have lunch there. If you walk towards the sea, you can come across a number of cafes and attractions.

The nearby beaches will not be of interest to those who have already been to the Red Sea. Because they have gentle entrances, there are no corals and, accordingly, no fish. There are no fish at all for which the Red Sea is famous. To see them, it’s better to go to a paid beach (Coral Beach, if I’m not mistaken), but you need to know its opening hours, or to the beach of some hotel next to it. And I won’t say that there was the same abundance there as in Egypt. This was definitely disappointing.

You can also visit the underwater observatory, which is located near the city. But this is a separate story, but for now a small spoiler:

Summary . In general, I expected more from the hotel. It may be inexpensive (relative to Israel), but judging by the reviews of other hotels in this price category, it is almost the best. I’m more than sure that in hotels where a night costs 3-5 times more, everything is at a different, higher level. But here the question arises: for that kind of money you can afford a vacation in a much more interesting places. Eilat itself was disappointing. But the vacation, nevertheless, was a success)) I wish the same for you)))
