Koh Chang from Pattaya on your own. Koh Chang Island - from Pattaya - beaches - reviews - photos. Why is the Pattaya – Koh Chang transfer more profitable and convenient than a bus?

Koh Chang is wonderful. This is one of the most picturesque and big islands Thailand.

However, to enjoy this island it is not enough to come here with organized excursion for one night, because all you really see is a 6-8 hour drive, several attractions (waterfalls and temples), the hotel is not really best beach and not even the best dinner.

The first time I came to Koh Chang was with an organized excursion: at 6 am we were picked up from the hotel, at 16.00 we were on the island. It was a very tiring excursion, although interesting. We were taken to the Erawan waterfall (here you could swim with carps. The water, by the way, is icy)

To the temple on Monkey Mountain. The temple is beautiful and big. The monkeys are hungry and angry. Especially the big ones. One even attacked my friend and bit her finger (my friend is alive) because she unknowingly walked toward the monkeys cheerfully waving a bag of food (monkey food is sold nearby in a store).

In general, don't wave food at hungry monkeys. This is fraught.

Despite the interesting and educational excursions, almost 10 hours on the road is a very, very long time. Especially if you only have to spend a night on the island and the next morning it’s time to set off on your way back, albeit with a stop at beautiful Koh Wai.

The best thing to do is to organize a train to the island yourself.

It is not difficult.

There are many hotels on Koh Chang Island; you can choose any one, depending on your financial capabilities. Most of them are presented on booking.com, [link] or on the website [link]

Organizing a transfer is also not difficult, you can order it from [link]

or at any of the transport agencies, of which there are a great many throughout Pattaya or Bangkok. And there is a bus from Suvarnabhumi Airport.

We usually stay at some hotel in Pattaya, live there for a couple of days, and then order a transfer and leave for Koh Chang.

The transfer is a small minibus that arrives at the hotel at the agreed time and takes you with one stop to the ferry.

The stop is a small road complex - a couple of shops, a restaurant, a toilet, a parking lot. Even organized excursions stop here.

The toilet is very picturesque, it is impossible not to show it. It is very clean (they even ask you to take off your shoes and put on “duty” slippers) and free (there is a modest tip jar on the tables near the entrance)

On the ferry, everyone gets out of their cars. People ride on the upper deck, buses and cars on the lower deck. It is better to take bags with valuables (recommendation of all the drivers and guides with whom we traveled).

There is a shop on the ferry. You can buy shakes, ice cream, something to snack on.

When ordering a transfer, be careful. Sometimes you can buy cheaper delivery just to the ferry. Further around the island you will have to move around on your own. We usually buy delivery directly to the hotel. It costs a little more, but saves the hassle of finding a tuk-tuk near the ferry. You are unlikely to reach the beach you need on foot. Those. , of course, if you set your mind to it, you will get there, but still, Koh Chang is one of the largest islands and it will be very tiring.

In addition to the fact that Koh Chang has beautiful beaches, there are also many excursions that you should definitely visit.

My favorite experiences were excursions to the coral islands and swimming with elephants.

Before your excursion to the coral islands, you will be picked up by a transfer (usually an open songthaew) and taken to one of the piers.

This is the kind of sump we sailed on.

they show us the route (probably, in case we got lost, they knew which way to swim back)

During the trip, the boat stopped periodically and we swam with masks. There really is something to see there. The corals and fish are almost more beautiful than those that can be seen in the Red Sea.

The funniest thing is the organized groups of Chinese - they swim like a "train" - holding on to each other's vests.

For lunch they land on one of the islands. Lunch is meager - rice with vegetables, bread, tea/coffee, fruit - but it is quite enough.

The excursion takes approx. 4 hours. Then everyone is taken to their hotels.

Elephant bathing had an impact on me. indelible impression. To this day, my friend and I don’t understand how we decided to get into the dirty, muddy water with a crowd of elephants. But we got a lot of bright emotions (it’s good that there were only emotions and no infection - I probably won’t dare to repeat it)

It all starts simply with an elephant ride through the jungle. The walk is generally normal (I’ve already ridden in other places several times), the only thing they ask is to take off your shoes

And then they bring them to the shore of a muddy and shallow river, everyone strips down to their swimsuits and, sitting on the necks of the elephants, go to the middle, where the elephants, under the supervision of their mahouts, begin to frolic - they pour on those who sit on their necks, try to throw them into the water, or dive under water with the rider.

An amazing adventure, but I definitely won’t repeat it. I don’t dare anymore.

In the evenings, most coastal hotels bring tables to the shore. Playing somewhere live music, and somewhere there is a fire show, and somewhere you can just lie on the sun loungers and smoke a hookah. A great end to a hot and busy day.

Transfer from Bangkok airport

If you arrive in the city by plane, it is more convenient to immediately book a transfer from Bangkok airport to Koh Chang. The service is available at both Suvarnabhumi (BKK) and Don Mueang (DMK) airports.

The driver will meet you in the arrivals hall with a sign (he will wait if the flight is delayed) and help you load your luggage into the car.

This option is especially suitable for holidays in Thailand with small children - you won’t have to juggle your suitcases on public transport, and you’ll get to the hotel faster.

The travel time will be slightly longer than if you travel from Bangkok:

Taxi and transfer should be preferred to public transport if.

Having become completely carried away by the Khmer Country, I pull myself together with an effort of will and return, at least for a short while, to my native Thailand and some of the features of this glorious town. And in passing I continue the topic of travel, which I now love so much, and propose short review one of the most trump cards, in my opinion, transport companies in the country - 35 Group Pattaya.

35 Group: islands and a little more

“35 group” has been offering high-quality transfer services millions of tourists on nimble air-conditioned minibuses on land and ferries on the Gulf of Thailand.

If you are taking a roundtrip with an open date, the organization asks to notify you at least a day before the return trip by phone. See all numbers below in the photo of the business cards.

The company operates in the following areas:

  1. From Pattaya to the islands - Koh Chang, Mak, Kud, Vai, Samet, as well as to the cities of Ban Phe and Trat.
  2. Suvarnabhumi Airport - Koh Chang.
  3. In the new season 2016 - 2017, it is planned to open the direction - Chang, from Victory Monument and from Khao San Road.

The quality of the transfer and the well-coordinated work of the carrier are evidenced by hundreds of reviews on the Internet and many years of work - a farang will usually always recommend that a fellow countryman choose this particular office for all kinds of Island Trips.

An interesting feature. Pattaya travel agencies often sell the same 35-group services under the name “Transfer to the Islands.” but with some extra charges. This makes sense: after all, travel agencies are located close to the tourist, and the only office of the carrier is located in a place that is not the most touristy from the point of view of a Russian. However, buying directly will still save travelers a hundred or two baht, especially if we are talking about a group of riders.

How to order a transfer

At the time of writing this article, the official website The company was under reconstruction, and after its launch it will be clear whether it is possible to book tickets for buses and ferries online.

Unfortunately, 35 Group does not currently cooperate with the Internet service , through which it is so convenient to reserve transfers by buses and ferries throughout South-East Asia. And it's a shame.

However, even now I see two ways to order a transfer to the so-called Pattaya Islands.

  1. 35 Group Pattaya Office
Located on Third Street, Buokhao Soi District, where the famous . A point on the map will not let you lie:

Easy to find through the route in the application - a free offline navigator. The office is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; employees speak English.
  2. Through a Russian-speaking employee
Since last 2015, the transporter has acquired a Russian-speaking manager who works through a page on social networks. You can ask all organizational questions, check prices and details on our native language and also order transfers.
Just in case, I’ll explain that I don’t personally know the group administrator, but when corresponding with my clarifying questions, he behaved tactfully, and the reviews in the community were mostly positive. As for tactfulness, believe the old barangay: when our people in Asia behave cautiously, this is already a lot. It is with great regret that I have to admit this unfortunate fact.
You can reserve tickets in advance for minibuses and ferries by phone, WhatsApp, Viber and Telegram.

Approximate prices
35 Group

All routes below operate daily.

When buying 35 group tickets through various third-party travel agency sites, it is worth comparing the prices with the original ones: they sometimes resell them at almost twice the price. Ordinary street people on Beach Road or Jomtien Beach get much less impudent - only fair agent markups of 20-30 percent.

Prices in baht. If you need to go both ways, simply multiply by two - no discounts are provided.

  • From Pattaya to Koh Chang one way: 400 - to the island pier; 600 - to the hotel itself.
  • At Koh Kood: 1700 with return.
  • Samet - 350/700;
  • Koh Mak and Koh Wai - 1,800.

Return tickets without a date must be used within a month before becoming invalid. If the reggae bars and deserted beaches of “Elephant Island” are delayed for a longer period, you will simply have to purchase the same tickets at local travel agency offices. Of course, the cost will be higher.

With wishes to discover Thailand only from the best sides, sincerely yours, an Asian woman of almost Slavic appearance, Marta.

Many tourists, soon after arriving, cannot withstand the intensity of passions and want to leave somewhere. Where there is silence, sea, palm trees, sand and nothing else unnecessary. For example, on . Just a few days of relaxation on its beaches have a beneficial effect on both body and soul. By the way, the sea there is much cleaner than here. Therefore the question is: “ How to get from Pattaya to Koh Chang on your own,” is very relevant.

Getting to Koh Chang on your own is quite possible. Especially because this destination is very popular among tourists and there are many offers to deliver there, varying in price and degree of extremeness. The distance from Pattaya to Koh Chang along the road to the pier is about 230 km; you can see the entire route on the map below.

Through a travel agency

This way to get to the island can only conditionally be called “independent”, because transfer Pattaya– Koh Chang(also called Mall Tour) consists of delivery from porch to porch. By contacting a local travel agency, of which there are many, you can be sure that you will get there and back to Pattaya without any problems - the price tag includes bus and ferry tickets. If you want, you can buy a return ticket right away. This way to get to Koh Chang will cost depending on the degree of luxury of the bus, they ask for it from 600 to 1000 baht, and this is one way!

Through a transport company

Tour Pattaya – Koh Chang You can buy without intermediaries - through a transport company. This way to get to Koh Chang allows you to save a couple of hundred baht. To do this, you need to find their office (will be indicated on the map at the end of the article). There are many similar carriers in Pattaya. The most proven and reliable - 35 Group Pattaya and their Vkontakte community. The only limitation is that you need to make arrangements to purchase a ticket at least 24 hours in advance, as they sell out too quickly.

Search tickets and flight schedules

Alternatively, you can book a minibus ticket online through any device with Internet access. To do this, you need to go to the 12 Go Asia website (or in the search form below), enter the points of departure and destination, the required date and click on the “Find” button. Read how to use the service.

By taxi

This is the most comfortable way to get to Koh Chang island. The delivery price just to can reach 3000-5000 baht. Taxis can be hailed on the street. Then you will negotiate everything with the driver yourself (it’s good if both he and you). A less extreme option is to order taxi Pattaya – Koh Chang via the KiwiTaxi.ru website. There are several advantages: you don’t need to negotiate anything with the driver, the car is yours, you can order it for the whole company at once (they will offer a minibus) and divide the price of the trip equally, which will be quite reasonable for the price. Also, if you do, they will provide him with a child restraint seat. Detailed instructions, read in a separate article, and you can also use the taxi search form below:

By bus

If you want to get from Pattaya to Koh Chang by bus (read about), the road will seem like a real adventure.

To do this, you need to go to (Nakhon Chai Bus), which is located on Sukhumvit Road 100 meters from Central Pattaya Street, and buy a ticket for a comfortable bus there, or do it on the 12Go.Asia website.

Features of the return transfer from Koh Chang to Pattaya

If you decide to get to Koh Chang island using travel company, then you should be aware of the peculiarities of landing on ferry Pattaya - Koh Chang. A company representative will meet you at the Trat pier 35 Group Pattaya(usually a girl). She will arrange for you to board the ferry, and if you have a return transfer booked (tell her about it), she will also give you a receipt that will be exchanged for a ticket on the day of departure from the island.

If you know exactly when you will go back, you can order a transfer to Pattaya with a fixed date through the same company. In this case, at the Koh Chang pier on the day of departure, change your receipt for a ticket and calmly sail to the mainland, knowing that a bus is waiting for you there.

This is what the minibass 35 Group Pattaya looks like

A return transfer with an open date requires you to call the office 35 Group Pattaya two days before departure and reserve your seat. Without doing this, you may see the tail of the bus in the province of Trat. This, of course, is not a disaster, but no one will compensate you for the cost of returning to Pattaya.

Ferries run frequently, but you need to choose a flight so that you can return to Trat in advance. After getting off the ferry, you must present your sea ticket at the office of the transport company from which you ordered the transfer. Try not to confuse the carrier. All minibass are white, so read the company names.

Koh Chang Island is the third largest island in Thailand. After Phuket and Koh Samui.
A sufficient number of Russians choose it for wintering. Why dont know. In my opinion, living on an island is difficult and boring, but this is a matter of taste, of course.
The island of Koh Chang attracted me because you can get there from Pattaya by car or by ferry. On the island closest to Pattaya, Samet, unfortunately,
You can't come by car.

From Pattaya to Koh Chang by car

From Pattaya to Koh Chang island it is only 350 km by car.

If you don’t have a car or the desire to drive one, it’s easy to leave by taking an all-inclusive excursion to the island of Koh Chang.
I included her in the list of 20 best excursions Pattaya, so if you need contacts of a proven and reliable travel agency, with whom we have been traveling for several years and recommend them to friends and readers, write in the comments - I will send it by email.

We left home early in the morning and arrived on Koh Chang island by lunchtime.
Since little Dasha was with us (she was only 1.4 years old at that time), the road did not seem fast and cloudless to me.
Realistically, it takes 4-5 hours to get there, not counting ferry crossing. Koh Chang is about 350 km from Pattaya.

Ferry to Koh Chang

The ferry service to Koh Chang island is located near the town of Trat. It is impossible to get lost; there are signs all along the road that will lead you to the right place.
Pier 2:
Koh Chang Ferry Pier at Ao Thammachart – ferry cost per person 80 baht and 120 in both directions and 200 baht for the car.
The ferry runs every hour from 6 to 19:00 and until 21:00 on weekends.
Center Point Ferry Pier is the same, but the car is free.
The journey takes about 40-50 minutes, which flies by unnoticed, since on the second floor there is a mini-cafe with coffee and drinks.
The crossing seemed reasonable to me, although quite long. First you buy a ticket for the car and passengers, then you stand in line.
Port employees line up cars and, in order, help load onto the ferry.
Of course, we were “lucky”; our car did not fit into the ferry and we had to wait for the next one.
Ferries from Trat run every half hour, contrary to information on the Internet. Although, perhaps this is because our trip fell on a weekend.

When exiting the ferry to Koh Chang, you will be offered tuk tuks to all the beaches on the island. Cost from 50 baht per person to the nearest white sands beach, up to 120 baht
for the road to the very end of the beaches of Koh Chang, the fishing village of Bang Bao.
The road to Koh Chang is not closed in a ring.

What kind of Koh Chang is he?

For some reason, I expect something special from the islands every time, I don’t know why. In reality, even Ko Lan, even Ko Chang and Samet, differ from each other only in area and number of people.
Of course, let’s not exaggerate, there is almost nothing to see on Ko Lan, and on Ko Chang there are elephants and waterfalls with a jungle, but in general, for an ordinary tourist who comes to “swim” in the sun, it’s all the same. If you want more privacy and Asian flavor with an atmosphere, then don’t be lazy to go to the island closest to Koh Chang, Koh Kood. This is where paradise truly lies.

An island is an island in Thailand too, with all the consequences, such as: prices for everything are many times higher, medicine is so-so, in a difficult situation you need to go to the nearest
Spend. Standing in line for the ferry is also a dubious pleasure.

Going for a weekend, changing the scenery is ok, but living, well, probably not.

On the Internet, it is customary to describe your trips to the islands as heavenly and unforgettable, omitting some everyday and other shortcomings as not significant.
This is, of course, my subjective objectivity, but what can you do, everyone has the right to their own point of view.

All Koh Chang Beaches – which one to choose?

The choice of the beach on Koh Chang was closely connected with the hotel. I definitely needed the first one coastline so that the beach is clean and prices are reasonable.
In principle, everything is bad with the reasonableness of prices for hotels on the islands. The choice is small - there is enough competition, the price for which in Pattaya or Bangkoi you can rent a room is very good hotel,
on Koh Chang it will be barely 3 stars and, God forbid, vacationers will rate it at 6.7 points.

There are several beaches, the most popular is White Sand beach, which I immediately rejected as a beach with too many people. Packs of package tourists are brought there and I wanted a more secluded place.
Although, upon arrival it turned out that White Sand beach is not as bad as it is painted. There are all sorts of parties and get-togethers.

There are a lot of hotels along White Sand beach. When you arrive, you can walk along the shore and choose the one you like.

Where to stay on Koh Chang

If you arrived in Koh Chang on your own, you will probably want to rent a bike. Despite my considerable driving experience, I would not ride on Koh Chang.
The narrow serpentine road, showered with small pebbles, does not evoke much desire to get behind the wheel of a bike. Very often they get into accidents there, of course they don’t have rights, these are all sad stories.
What to do? Take a car or tuk tuk.

To get started, look at hotels, choose a beach, read reviews and narrow your search. Decide what you want - walk a lot, see the surroundings,
go on an excursion or just lie on the beach.
What are you going for? For a family or romantic vacation or to hang out?
If you are a party-going youth, then Klong Prao will be boring and quiet for you. Everyone goes to bed there after sunset :)

We didn't plan to go anywhere far, so I combed Klong Prao up and down and finally chose hotel – Magic Resort.
Returning to the conversation about savings, it’s a pity that at that moment I couldn’t find it in any booking system,
but Room Guru has it and it’s almost two times cheaper than what we rented on the spot (!!). On Rumguru the price of the house-room in which we lived on the same dates is total $36 .
I think that this is a very good option for the money and corresponds to what I wanted. My husband doesn’t agree with me, so as you can see, there are so many people, so many opinions.
On the plus side - good clean beach, a nice cafe right on the pier nearby, unobtrusive staff, somewhere to park your car, peace and quiet, perfect for a child.
Of the minuses - everything is shaky and the amenities are not for the pampered and faint of heart, everything is very, very simple. Everything is old, but working. I don’t really care, I was going for the beach and silence, so
I was satisfied with everything.

We looked at Klong Prao Resort, there were a couple of options and prices started from 4000 per room.
Then we walked towards Amari. I can't remember the name of the hotel that connects to Amari, but I was shocked that the only rooms left were those on the first floor, overlooking the
the staff kitchen, which smelled like garbage and was priced at over $100 for a room no larger than 15 meters.

I started to get upset that I couldn’t find anything decent and not expensive.
Walking along the beach past Amari, we came across the Magic Resort and decided to stay there.
For 100 dollars we rented 2 rooms (one house with two rooms) right on the seashore. Each house was designed for 4 people.

Magic Resort Koh Chang – pros and cons

Let's talk about the good stuff first.
Great, great location. Magic Resort is located on the very shore, and it is very fortunate that it is at the end of the bay, behind it there is only one tiny hotel and then further on, on the rocks.
That is, at your disposal is a huge piece of beach, on which there is no one except three crippled guests of the Magic Resort.
I didn’t really understand why there were so few people on the beach, since I counted at least 25 houses and they were all occupied. And only we and a couple of other people were sunbathing on the beach.

Nice, clean beach, shallow entrance, ideal for children, lots of greenery.

The Magic Resort Cafe is located on the pier, meaning breakfast and lunch and dinner are very authentic, right in the sea and with views on all sides.

Price – compared to other offers, for 4 local number, seemed to me simply unheard of generosity.

Well, now let's move on to the cons.

The staff is an unfriendly administrator, just like in the Soviet Union. With English on you.

Breakfast – you choose from the menu, and it’s almost terrible. We got out of it, since we had 8 coupons for breakfast for 5 people, so we could at least choose something.

The whole room consists of two double beds (we had a room for four)) and a shower and toilet.
The rooms are shabby and not even fresh. But the worst thing is that there are no mosquitoes in the room, as in the whole of Ko Chang.

We were certainly unlucky. Before going to bed, I smeared Dasha entirely with mosquito repellent lotion; only her eyelids were left unsmeared, where the mosquito bit her.

In the morning, the child’s eyes almost couldn’t open, so he had to go to the Bangkok Koh Chang Hospital under insurance. Where we waited for an hour and a half, although there was no one except us,
The doctor examined me for a minute and prescribed antihistamines and ointment. It helped right away.

Then, they “forgot” to return our passport, even though the insurance company (Reso) had already confirmed the payment. When my husband returned to get his passport, the Russian employee sprayed him with this
a tub of obscenities that if it weren’t for the ferry, they would have gladly filed a complaint against her. Just a boor and a pig.

With all this, do not forget to buy travel insurance abroad. It doesn’t cost that much, just pennies for a short period of time, but it will save you a fabulous amount of money and nerves.
I constantly keep my finger on the pulse, insurance policies often change, new ones are added, old ones disappear. On this moment most the best option insurance abroad, this is definitely ERV, with coverage
from 50,000 dollars. In second place is Zetta, but in general it depends on your needs.
. It’s the cheapest place there and the employees will always answer all questions, help solve problems if any arise, and can even push through (and do)
insurance companies when they begin to refuse to pay large amounts of benefits.
Thailand is the most unprofitable direction for insurance companies, because they contact us very often. For the same reason, you need to be insured!!!

Not a negative, but just for the record, Magic Resort does not have a pool. Who needs him there, of course, but suddenly.

We stayed there for two nights and personally, I liked the trip.
In the evening, quiet pleasant music played, the surf roared, and after putting the children to bed, we chatted in the dark, enjoying the salty air of this beautiful island.

I was surprised how Thai people are. Apart from us, no one expressed a desire to have dinner at the cafe on the pier, and so, we arrived around 22:00, it turned out that
they no longer work. Or rather, it was 20 minutes before closing, zero people, and when asked if they would be open, they said no. And really, why?

Well, no problem. We had a great time sitting on the open veranda on Amari Beach. I highly recommend the restaurant on the beach. The prices are certainly not encouraging, but it’s very tasty.
Perhaps the only place, where everything we ordered turned out to be delicious. Very interesting and not trivial selection of dishes, excellent cocktails.
If you want dinner in a romantic setting, this is the place. They work until late.

What to see on Koh Chang?

We stayed only a short time and, in principle, did not plan trips to waterfalls and the jungle.
We saw the elephants, fed them (you can still ride) and went to View Point.

Elephants are not difficult to find, the farm is opposite the hotel Centara.

You can’t go wrong with the observation deck either, it’s behind Klong Prao beach. It's hard to get lost when there's only one road.

Dasha’s eye spoiled the impression of the holiday, I honestly panicked, and immediately thought - how is it possible with small children
live on the islands? If something happens, you won’t have time! There is no intensive care unit in the hospital and there are one and a half doctors wandering around, whose competence can be doubted.
Seriously ill patients are transported by helicopter to Trat. Will insurance pay for this? question.

Yes, prices were also delivered. For the examination and cheap medicines they billed 5,000 baht! Five thousand! For seeing a therapist!
The husband shrugged his shoulders and said - Katya! Well, do they need to live on something? There are no people, so they are driving up the prices, what should I do?

Overall, I liked the trip to Koh Chang, like almost all trips. The feeling of the road, the choice of hotel, the joy of the sea and the sun, new places -
all this is great and what people are going on the road for.
But it’s probably unlikely that we will go to Koh Chang again soon. The closest one to us, Samet, is no less picturesque and you don’t need to travel 4 hours by car.
And also, I want to go to new places. But if you are wondering whether to go to Koh Chang or not, of course you should go!

How to save money on a hotel or apartment on vacation?

I'm looking on the Rumguru website. It contains absolutely all discounts on hotels and apartments from 30 booking systems, including booking. I often find very profitable options, I can save from 30 to 80%

How to save on insurance?

Insurance abroad is required. Any appointment is very expensive and the only way to avoid paying out of pocket is to choose an insurance policy in advance. We have been registering on the website for many years, which give the best prices insurance and selection along with registration takes only a couple of minutes.
