Near Dusseldorf there is the town of Cologne, which is famous for its incredibly beautiful Cathedral. The most convenient way to travel from Düsseldorf to Cologne is by train, the journey takes about 30 minutes.

The next day I headed to Cologne to look at the Cathedral and at the same time take a walk around the city. I liked the sightseeing tour of Cologne much more. As in Dusseldorf, the Cologne sightseeing bus departs near the station, opposite the Cathedral.

The Cologne Cathedral was very impressive, somewhat reminiscent of the Holy Family Cathedral in Barcelona.

The interior decoration is quite simple. Such a classic flaming gothic.

Tourists are excitedly filming everything on their iPads.

Near the Cologne Cathedral you can see "living statues". That's what people do! Why not Charlie Chaplin?

It turns out that the city of Cologne was founded by the Romans and there are even ruins of old fortress walls left there.

There were also some cool things along the way of the bus. For example, this is a kind of ice cream advertisement. Very relevant in summer!

Beginning of the story>> Continued>>

Cologne, one of the oldest cities in Germany, dating back to Roman times, still bears its colonial past in its name, although it has long been given the title of “Metropolis on the Rhine”. During a tour of Cologne, the traveler will gradually feel its stubborn German character and all-conquering love of life.

The grandiose bulk of Cologne Cathedral, from which your walk around Cologne will almost certainly begin, was built over centuries, waging a malicious competition in height with Reims Cathedral. It is enough to look at it to understand why the city remained a stronghold of Catholicism in Protestant Germany; having withstood the Reformation, he also endured the Second world war: A prime target for air attacks, it miraculously survived being hit by three bombs and became one of the few remaining churches in the city, admired by everyone who comes to Cologne. The guide, who conducts thematic excursions along his own routes, is ready to show both ancient Roman and medieval, and for children - even fabulous Cologne (guides who talk about the city in Russian are often ready to coordinate their program with the individual needs of the tourist).

The impression from modern city will not yield to the charm of the excursion. Cologne embodies coziness and comfort in its broadest sense: here everyone will find their own rhythm and their niche, and the traveler will involuntarily want to spend his old age the way they spend it here: active, fun, without losing their taste for art, beautiful clothes and delicious local beer .

Excursions from Cologne in Russian will allow you to see the best of more than 40 surviving medieval castles of the Rhine and will take the erudite tourist from reality to literary space: within one day you will visit places known from the legends of the Nibelungs and see the rock on which the comb her curls are deadly beautiful Lorelei. It has long been noted that Germany lives according to the laws of poetry, and if it were not for Goethe, the same Cologne Cathedral would not have been completed.

Here are some excursions you can try when you come to Cologne.

1. Sightseeing tour of the city

It can be on foot, by bus or minivan, by public transport, boat or bicycle. The excursion usually includes visits to the most famous churches, cathedrals, bridges (for example, Lovers' Bridge - Hohenzollern Bridge), museums such as the Cologne Museum, art gallery, the Chocolate Museum, and, of course, Cologne Cathedral. Many tour guides include beer tasting as part of the tour, in particular the local Kölsch beer. Such an excursion will give a complete impression of the wonderful city of Cologne. This tour lasts from 1 to 4 hours and costs from 30 € per group (this is the bare minimum, usually more expensive). The group can be from 1 to 40 people. The nice thing is that the starting point of the excursion, as well as places to visit during it, can be easily agreed upon with the guide.

2. Beer traditions of Cologne

It's no secret that German beer is one of the best in the world. And to learn more about this wonderful drink, you can take a whole excursion dedicated to beer. During this, tourists will hear a lot of useful and interesting information about the beer production process, about traditions and holidays associated with beer and, of course, they will taste different types of beer. This excursion lasts from one and a half to three hours, costs from 60 € per group.

3. Cologne: Myths and Legends

The two-hour tour explores the myths and fairy tales of the city of Cologne. Tourists with a guide visit the most interesting historical places and learn a lot of new things. The excursion costs from 100 € per group. In general, the same sightseeing tour, just with the addition of some interesting places in the city.

4. Romantic Tour for Valentine's Day Valentinstag

If you suddenly find yourself in Cologne on February 14, or even come to Germany in February, such an excursion can be an excellent gift for your significant other. The trick of the tour is that, by agreement, your significant other will be given surprises during the entire tour. In addition, the tour includes visiting the most romantic places cities of Cologne and Bremen, two romantic dinners at a restaurant to choose from, a visit to the Lovers' Bridge (the locks that lovers secure on this bridge are not issued, so bring it with you or buy it in a nearby store, fortunately, there are plenty of them there) and much more . That is, this is, in fact, a sightseeing tour with a romantic twist. This excursion lasts two days, hotel accommodation, train travel and meals are included in the tour. The tour starts from Hamburg. Costs approximately 330 € per person.

It would be appropriate to note here that on February 14 there is a very interesting thing in Germany: Flirt-Express trains run throughout the cities. That is, a kind of dating club on wheels (or on railway tracks. I don’t know how much such a tour costs, but you need to buy it in advance, before the 10th, otherwise there are a lot of people willing! It lasts about three hours, and at every stop along the route there is such a romantic On the train, a restaurant is pre-booked, where you can go out and have dinner with someone from the train who you like.

5. Chocolate Museum in Cologne

Perhaps one of the most famous museums in the city. Indeed, the museum is wonderful. To make everything clearer, take the services of a guide. The cost of the excursion is from 50 euros (sometimes the cost of a ticket to the museum is not included). The tour lasts about an hour.

6. Castles on the Rhine

Germany is famous for its ancient beautiful castles throughout the country. The stories behind the castles are truly impressive. The Middle Rhine from Koblenz to Bingen with its 40 castles is included in the UNESCO list, so such an excursion simply cannot be boring! During the tour, tourists will look at the Ehrenbrunnstein Fortress, Marksburg, Eltz Castle, Maria Laach Monastery and many others. The movement takes place on tourist bus or car. It is also possible to take a boat ride along castles and other attractions.

The excursion is not cheap, from 300 € per group. Lasts from 6 hours to the whole day. This is truly a very interesting excursion!

And, of course, a tour of other cities, from Cologne, as well as with the capture of Cologne. These are quite long excursions, at least 6 hours. Excursions may include cities in Germany, as well as neighboring countries, Holland, Luxembourg, Belgium and others. Accordingly, they are not cheap, from 300 € minimum. Most popular destinations:
