Baggage rules. Baggage and hand luggage. Transportation of sports equipment

At the end of last year, President Putin signed a law amending the “General Rules air transport passengers, baggage, cargo and requirements for servicing passengers, shippers, consignees.” In accordance with this legislative act, Russian air carriers have introduced uniform rules for the carriage of baggage on an airplane, with the only exception - a subsidiary of Aeroflot. Rules for the carriage of baggage and hand luggage on an airplane in 2018: studying the changes made to the law.

Airplane baggage rules in 2018

In accordance with the law adopted in November, new baggage allowances allow one bag or suitcase weighing up to 30 kg. Less is possible, but more is not possible. Each passenger must check in individual luggage.

The permissible weight of items will depend on your ticket category: economy, business or 1st class. The higher the class, the large quantity There will be possibilities in terms of luggage volume.

For a child under 2 years of age, it is possible to check in separate luggage. The weight of the bag should be no more than 10 kg.

There is no generally accepted global standard for all air carriers. It is necessary to take into account the rules of the state where you are going. For example, when flying to Dubai, objects, as well as literary publications of a religious orientation other than Islam, are prohibited for transportation. It is also worth taking into account the restrictions of each carrier separately.

Excess baggage

Excess baggage- this is one that weighs more than is allowed for the category of your ticket.

For example, if you bought an economy class ticket, then you can carry luggage weighing up to 23 kg. If exceeded permissible weight you will be required to pay extra for baggage, but a number of airlines allow slight excess weight without additional payment.

If you immediately know that your luggage will be excess, then check with the carrier how much you will have to pay extra.

Baggage over 30 kg – heavy luggage

According to the new rules for carrying baggage on an airplane, weight over 30 kg is equated to the heavyweight category. Before this, the maximum weight was up to 32 kg.

For such cargo you will need to pay extra for each extra kilogram. There are no uniform tariffs; each individual carrier determines the cost of additional payment independently.

In addition to excess weight, the following items may also exceed dimensions in the sum of 3 dimensions:

· skiing, other large sports equipment;

· musical instruments – guitar, double bass, etc.;

· Appliances- fridge.

To transport such goods, it is necessary to agree in advance with the carrier. Before your flight, contact customer support. Please arrive at the airport early on the day of departure as special cargo may require more time to be checked in.

A number of airlines allow you to carry ski equipment in winter or diving boards in winter without additional payment. summer period.

The carrier has every right to refuse to transport you oversized cargo if the cargo compartments are small or there is little space left.

Baggage free ticket

Some carriers offer baggage-free travel. In accordance with it, passengers can only fly with hand luggage. Such a service has its pros and cons. The advantage is the low price of the flight. The downside is that tickets are non-refundable.

Consolidated baggage

For couples, colleagues and friends, there is a luggage consolidation service. In this case, you have the opportunity to put all your items in 1 suitcase, and it will be counted as 1 piece of luggage.

The weight requirements are the same - no more than 30 kg. It is prohibited to combine luggage if it exceeds the weight limit.

Fragile luggage

When carrying glassware, electronics and decor on board, many passengers worry about the safety of their belongings, since suitcases are often handled carelessly at airports, thrown into a common pile.

In such situations, you have the option of checking your luggage as “fragile”. Why do you need to provide information at the registration of things, and then your suitcase will not be sent along the common belt - it will be taken to the luggage compartment.

Checking fragile luggage does not ensure the safety of your items.

It is recommended to take fragile items that meet the parameters of hand luggage with you into the cabin. The only condition is that things should not contain liquid. Jars of jams and pickles will need to be discarded and placed in the luggage compartment.

Carry-on luggage: 2018 standards

What weight of luggage is allowed by airlines? Changes to the air travel law that came into effect in November 2017 limit the minimum weight of hand luggage. Before this, it was allowed to carry at least 10 kg free of charge for non-refundable/refundable tickets, now - from 5 kg.

Most airlines allowed you to carry a suitcase weighing 10 kg on the plane. It was necessary to pay separately for transportation in the luggage compartment.

The new law stipulates that the carrier must take on board from 5 kg, but there is the possibility of increasing the weight. For example, companies such as S7, UTair and Aeroflot said that they intend to leave 10 kg as the norm.

The following rules are currently in effect on the Aeroflot website:

For hand luggage, there are restrictions on parameters - height up to 55 cm, width up to 40 cm, thickness up to 20 cm. In accordance with the new rules of Aeroflot from February 2018, there will be restrictive frames before the boarding gate, which make it possible for checking whether the baggage meets the requirements.

In addition, certain changes have been made to the list of free items for carrying on board in addition to hand luggage.

What items are allowed to be taken into the cabin without being checked in as hand luggage?

According to the old rules, it was allowed to take the following things into the salon for free without weighing, tagging or registration:

· costume;

· laptop;

· camcorder;

· camera;

· mobile phone;

· baby food for the duration of the flight in an unlimited flight;

· baby carrier (folding cradle/folding stroller);

· books, magazines, newspapers;

· outerwear;

· ladies handbag;

· briefcase;

· folder with papers/documents;

· cane;

· crutches;

· bouquet of flowers.

Now the umbrella, laptop and telephone have been excluded from here. The Ministry of Transport explained these changes as an opportunity to place these items in a bag.

In addition, a backpack has been added to the list of items allowed for free transportation. Pobeda Airlines confirmed the information that they will allow backpacks to be carried if their size fits into the standards in force in this company.

For Pobeda, the restrictions on hand luggage are as follows - 36x30x27, and the minimum ticket price starts from 500 rubles.

Items that are allowed in hand luggage and on you

You can optionally keep some items with you or in your carry-on luggage:

· cylinders containing carbon dioxide (used to activate artificial limbs);

· tools for repairing glasses, including a screwdriver less than 50 mm long;

· lighter/safety matches (exclusively with you);

· pacemaker;

· other pharmaceutical devices, including those based on radioactive isotopes, with lithium batteries. Can be kept exclusively with you;

· robot toy;

· razors, including disposable ones;

eyelash curler;

· nitroglycerin tablets/spray for treatment;

· oxygen cylinders for medical purposes;

· injection needles for diabetics/special medications.

Actions in case of loss

No one is immune from losing things during a flight. Items disappear when loading/unloading into the luggage compartment, they are randomly sent on the wrong flight.

If things go missing, follow these instructions:

· Make sure you have your luggage receipt on hand;

· Contact the missing items department with the form;

· Complete an application.

Within 3 weeks, the carrier must find the items and return them to you. The parcel is sent to your home free of charge; you are not required to go anywhere or pay anything.

If you return damaged or missing luggage after 3 weeks, you can contact the carrier for compensation.

If the carrier refuses to compensate for the damage caused, then you have the right to demand a reasoned written refusal and go to court with it.

IN Montreal Convention an international agreement has been enshrined, which provides the maximum possible compensation for the loss of a bag - 1131 SDR (an artificial reserve and means of payment issued by the International Monetary Fund). This is equivalent to approximately $1500.

In fact, the final amount of compensation will depend on the specific company. Foreign carriers compensate on average $20/kg. The largest foreign companies may pay a higher amount in accordance with their domestic rules. Russian carriers They pay approximately $600.

If you have lost your luggage in international flight, then you must apply for a search no later than a week after the date of receipt of the items.

On domestic flights You can file a claim within 6 months from the date of loss.

To receive regular compensation, a description of the lost luggage is required. If you have receipts for lost items, you can attach them to your application. In this case, you will be able to claim full or partial compensation for damage.

- a question that interests passengers of many airlines. People do not always understand what belongs to this category of luggage, what items can be taken into the cabin, and what is better to leave at home or check in with regular cargo.

What is the essence?

First, let's look at what is considered hand luggage on an airplane. This is a special type of baggage that is allowed to be taken into the cabin of an airliner. It has its own rules and regulations for transportation, depending on the rules of the airline. For example, economy class passengers receive one seat, and business class and 1st class passengers receive twice as many.

It is believed that the equivalent of one place is a bag or backpack containing personal items. This is wrong. The main criterion is the weight of hand luggage and its dimensions. It is these parameters that the carrier starts from. Such baggage is subject to a number of restrictions, which may vary.

General prohibitions

Before checking in for a flight, it is important to be clear about what you cannot take on the plane. Generally speaking, the category of prohibited cargo includes weapons, liquefied gases, as well as dangerous substances (radioactive, toxic, caustic). The category of prohibited items also includes explosives, liquefied gases, sharp objects, including household appliances such as wire cutters, a corkscrew, scissors, a folding knife and others.

Below we will consider in detail what you can take in hand luggage on a plane, and what items are prohibited in relation to food, cosmetics, medicines, digital equipment and other cargo.

Food

First, let's look at what you are allowed to carry. from food. As a rule, airlines restrict passengers in this matter by prohibiting the carriage of jelly-like and liquid foods. But you can take with you:

  • Nuts.
  • Fruits.
  • Sandwiches.
  • Cookie.
  • Chips and other products.

If you are flying with a child, you are allowed to take baby food. If jellies, juices or yoghurts are found before departure, they will most likely be prohibited from being carried. This also applies to food that is packaged in cans. Those products that are allowed to be brought on board are recommended to be packed in transparent bags, which speeds up the inspection procedure.

Before departure, pay attention to the carrier's requirements, as they may vary. Pay special attention to goods from DutyFree stores. They are allowed to be taken on the plane, but only if they are packaged in a bag and have a receipt in hand.

Cosmetical tools

Women often ask what they can take with them. from cosmetics. As a rule, carriers allow you to bring into the cabin:

  • Blush.
  • Eyeliner.
  • Shadows.
  • Powder and other means.

As for jelly-like compositions, as well as liquids that are packaged in containers larger than 0.1 liters, it is prohibited to take them with you. The only option is to transfer your items to checked luggage. In addition, it is not permitted to bring pressurized cans into the cabin. In this case, the total volume of liquids carried should not exceed 1000 ml. This nuance should be taken into account before departure.

Medical supplies

An equally important issue is medications. The following medications are allowed as hand luggage:

  • Pills.
  • Hydrogen peroxide.
  • Materials for dressing.
  • Various drops.

All products should be sealed and carried with instructions for use. Otherwise, customs officers may have questions for the passenger, up to and including the need to conduct a detailed inspection. If there is an injury hand luggage can be supplemented with special means for movement, for example, crutches. Regarding the upper limit of liquids, the same rules apply here as mentioned above.

Digital equipment

According to airline rules, you can take digital equipment on board the plane - a laptop, player, tablet, camera, charger and even a hairdryer. But there is a limitation regarding mobile phones. It can be brought into the cabin, but must be turned off. This is due to safety concerns, as radiation from mobile devices can interfere with the operation of aircraft electronics.

If you plan to carry large equipment with you that exceeds the permissible dimensions, it is better to check it as regular luggage.

What to do with documents and jewelry?

According to airline rules, you are allowed to take valuables, jewelry, wallets and important documents. You also need to take your passport with you so as not to accidentally end up in a foreign country without documents. There are situations when luggage does not fit on one plane and then it can be sent on the next flight.

Clothing and personal care items

If we consider personal hygiene items, you can take them on board the plane toothbrush and paste, a comb (without a handle), wet wipes and even nail polish remover. At the same time, it is prohibited to take cutting or piercing things into the salon. This rule also applies to nail scissors.

From clothes you can take with you a coat, a jacket (sweater), an umbrella, a blanket and a shawl. Generally speaking, it is allowed to take almost all clothing if it does not contradict the airline’s rules and does not exceed the permissible standards (dimensions, weight).

What are the weight and size restrictions?

Separate question - How much hand luggage can you take on a plane?. Here, each airline has its own rules, which depend on the destination, ticket price, flight class and other factors. There are only two main criteria, namely size and weight:

  • Dimensions. They should not exceed 56 cm in length, 46 cm in height, and 25 cm in width.
  • Weight. Here the requirements differ, and various airlines limits may range between 3 and 15 kg.

Results

Despite some similarity in the requirements of air carriers regarding hand luggage, some rules are strictly individual. For example, low-cost airlines that provide budget flights are stricter about hand luggage and allow you to take a minimum of things into the cabin. There is a maximum of one seat per person. More established companies will have fewer restrictions. In any case, it is important to clarify these points in advance, even before purchasing a ticket and checking in for the flight.

Minimum free rate- 5 kg. The carrier can charge more, but not less.

Any item from the “take with you” list can be placed in hand luggage or checked in as checked baggage. But if the ticket is baggage-free or there is a weight limit, baby food and a suit can be carried separately. And don't pay anything for it.

So, they still want to cut the list and worsen conditions for passengers?

Changes regarding hand luggage and passenger belongings have not yet been approved. An official representative of the Ministry of Transport says that the list will still be supplemented.

But they cut it for a reason. Experts analyzed luggage and realized that laptops, cameras and magazines are most often carried in luggage or carry-on luggage. Flowers are brought very rarely. And there can be no questions at all regarding outerwear: it is not considered luggage and is not prohibited from being carried on the plane.

If there is unexpected baggage, will I not be allowed on the plane?

They'll let me in, of course. But you will have to pay extra for unexpected baggage at check-in at airline rates.

Are tickets definitely not going to go up in price?

There is no reason in these changes specifically for tickets to become more expensive. On the contrary: companies now have the opportunity to make tickets cheaper.

Tickets may become more expensive for other reasons, but these specific amendments to the air code have nothing to do with it.

I have already bought a ticket, but I am leaving in October. By what rules will I be checked in for the flight?

To put it simply: according to the old ways.

By default, you should be booked on the flight according to the rules that were in effect when you bought the ticket. Formally, the airline may include some tricky condition about changing the conditions of transportation, but it will most likely be illegal. Just in case, check with the carrier.

Do the new rules apply to all flights? Even for foreign airlines?

The rules apply only to those airlines that operate under Russian legislation. Foreign carriers or codeshare flights may have different rules.

How to buy a plane ticket without overpaying?

If you are flying without luggage, after September 29, choose baggage-free non-refundable tickets. How much cheaper they will be, no one knows yet. Air carriers will decide this.

If you are flying with luggage, carefully read the conditions on the website where you buy your ticket. The seller must clearly write the conditions for luggage.

Properly distribute items between checked luggage, carry-on luggage and personal items. For now, it is more profitable to carry a laptop and camera separately from a backpack or suitcase. When the rules change, you will have to put it in your backpack - it will be hand luggage. Or in a briefcase - it will be something you take with you.

If the carrier's rules violate the law, they can be challenged. Then the airline will compensate for the damage. Collect documents, write a complaint to Rospotrebnadzor and get ready to go to court. Here are stories where carriers lost:

Stay tuned for changes in air travel regulations. If you have constructive suggestions regarding hand luggage and baggage, participate in discussions of the Ministry of Transport project.

Also, do not forget that changes to air travel rules are not final yet. We are waiting for clarification on hand luggage and the list of things to take with you. Subscribe to Tinkoff magazine and we will tell you what rules will eventually be approved and what to do about it:

With summer comes the time for vacations and therefore many immediately turned their attention to the most famous resorts peace. On this moment namely the use air transport It is considered the fastest and fairly reliable means of traveling around the globe.

Just think, in just a few hours you can find yourself completely on the other side of the world, without even noticing the flight itself.

However, this method of transportation is subject to its own specific features, so each person, when buying a plane ticket, is obliged to strictly comply with all the rules that the airline has.

One of the main and strict rules is the carriage of luggage.

Strictness of this rule is to ensure the safety of any person on board, and therefore prevails over everyone, regardless of their status and purpose of the flight.

In this article you will learn what universal rules are used for carrying baggage and how they differ depending on different airlines.

Basic rules for transporting baggage on an airplane

At the moment, a unified list of rules that every passenger must obey has not been developed throughout the world. However, there are various options, which depend on several factors:

  1. Destination countries - each country in the world has some of its own unique features and characteristics, which also affect what can be transported to it. For example, since only Islam is preached in Dubai, it is absolutely not allowed to transport other transported items of a religious nature, including crosses, into the territory of this country;
  2. Airline rules - each company has its own rules on baggage transportation, namely the permitted weight. Very often this depends on the cost of the ticket and the class chosen, as well as the aircraft itself. Typically this weight should not exceed 30 kg per person;

To avoid any problems during baggage check-in, it is best to carefully read the existing rules. This is especially true in cases where there is non-standard luggage, such as a pet.

Read very carefully the list of items prohibited for transportation, such as piercing and cutting objects.

The latest changes in the rules for the transportation of baggage in Russia

The threat of terrorism is becoming worse every year, which is why various baggage allowances are often tightened. Let's consider the new rules for transporting baggage on an airplane in Russia.

At the moment, since 2016, it has become possible to carry only 1 bag as hand luggage.

If before this their number was not counted, now it has become much stricter. However, now the weight of such a bag can reach 10 kg, although this is not documented in writing.

However, the amount of baggage that is checked into the cargo compartment is still not regulated by law, so each company sets its own limits. This made it possible to create so-called “baggage-free” tariffs, which help reduce business people who travel without bulky bags, the cost of the ticket.

At the moment in Russia, the maximum weight of a bag accepted on board is 50 kg, however, to travel with so many things you will have to pay a fair amount.

However, a pleasant moment is that many airlines have now begun to carry the necessary sports equipment completely free of charge, especially for those traveling to ski resorts.

General baggage allowances on board the aircraft

At the moment, all the things that a traveler wants to take with him are divided into 3 parts:

  • personal belongings;
  • baggage;
  • hand luggage.

According to the law, any personal belongings must be carried free of charge. That is why it is better to keep all documents with you, because sometimes luggage gets lost.

However, for all of these types of luggage there are also some general rules, which every airline uses, regardless of the country of flight.

  1. Make sure your bags are intact. There should not be any cuts on the luggage being carried, otherwise during the flight things may be damaged and other luggage may be destroyed;
  2. Be sure to wrap your bag in film. This service can also be used at the airport, but you will have to pay extra for it. However, this will help you keep your bag intact;
  3. Be sure to weigh your bag before the flight and check whether its dimensions and weight comply with the rules of the chosen company, so that later you do not have to pay extra for being overweight;
  4. Carefully read the list of items prohibited for transportation so as not to inadvertently try to cheat them.

Prohibited or restricted items for transportation in the aircraft cabin

Very often, many problems arise with various transported items, which, according to airline rules, should not be in luggage. This is especially true for women who can put their cosmetics and manicure accessories in their hand luggage. All this can be confiscated with great ease.

At the moment, it is strictly prohibited to carry on airplanes:

Of course, the above is not the entire list of items prohibited for transportation, so it is better to discuss all non-standard items with the company in advance.

It also does not discuss items that are not only not prohibited for transportation, but in general are completely illegal, that is, drugs and explosives. A passenger carrying such cargo is immediately removed from the flight and transferred to law enforcement authorities for further investigation.

Airlines also strictly restrict the carriage of certain items, advising them to be taken as carry-on luggage.

Total weight of luggage, rules for transporting hand luggage on an airplane

So, at the moment, any passenger can carry some luggage with him completely free of charge.

Currently, one bag is counted as carry-on luggage, the weight of which should not exceed 10 kg. Of course, this does not count as this handbag or a small men's briefcase - these are personal items. In business class, some airlines allow 2 bags with a total weight of 15 kg as an incentive to buy more expensive tickets.

Such hand luggage should not exceed 115 cm in sum of all its sides, however, there is a certain standard - this is 55*20*40. This happened due to the fact that I am currently producing bags of completely non-standard sizes.

It is believed that you can bring quite a large one as hand luggage. musical instrument, however, you will need to purchase a separate ticket for it.

Of course, we shouldn’t forget about animals. If you are carrying a small enough pet, then you can carry it in the cabin, of course in a special carrier.

The list of hand luggage also includes:

  • laptop and recording equipment;
  • press;
  • customs store products, including alcohol, packed in a bag;
  • chairs and strollers for children under 2 years old;
  • baby food.

One bag can be checked in free of charge as regular baggage per person. However, you should carefully monitor its weight; if it exceeds the limits, then you will have to divide all things by 2 with an additional charge.

The weight of baggage depends on the class indicated on the ticket. Many airlines have set the maximum for economy class at 20 kg; business allows you to carry an additional 12.

However, the standard size of a bag should not exceed 158 cm on all sides.

Carry-on children's luggage

As a standard, children under two years of age are not entitled to a separate seat. However, it is permissible for such a child to carry additional hand luggage on the plane.

Of course, it should be much smaller than the standard one.

However, they will need to be stored folded on the plane, and they should not interfere with any other passenger at all.

Existing features of transporting liquids in hand luggage and luggage

At the moment, there is a complete list of liquid substances that are allowed for transportation in hand luggage:

  • drinks, water, syrup, soup;
  • lotion, shower gels, shampoo;
  • perfumes and colognes;
  • deodorants and aerosols;
  • toothpaste and cosmetics;
  • shaving foam;
  • other liquid substances.

Each of these jars should not exceed 100 ml, the only exceptions being medicines and baby food, but their total volume should not exceed 1 liter.

They must also be packed in transparent packaging so that the security officer can inspect everything. Anything that exceeds this amount will be confiscated.

Baby food and medicines do not need to be packed in bags, but the need to have such things with you must be documented.

Goods purchased at a duty-free store are also considered an exception, but they must be packed and not opened until the very end of the flight.

These rules are considered quite universal for everyone, however, there may be some restrictions, depending on the internal rules or the country of arrival. For example, in the USA, bringing any alcohol with you is completely prohibited.

However, all other liquids that do not meet these strict requirements are quite acceptable to carry in luggage, they just must be placed in it in advance.

Carrying medicines on an airplane

A first aid kit is one of the most necessary things on any trip, and this applies not only to those who have chronic diseases. It is better not to be left abroad without emergency funds that will help cure the problem.

However, many countries do not allow the transport into their territory even of those products that are sold in the Russian Federation without any prescriptions. Therefore, sleeping pills, antibiotics, painkillers, and anti-sickness pills may fall into the risk zone.

First of all, this depends on the fact that they contain a large amount of quite potent substances. That is why it is better to know in advance what medications you can have with you.

At the moment, you are allowed to carry as much money on the plane as you need for your own needs. They must be in the original packaging with a normal expiration date.

Restrictions also apply to liquid medications, especially insulin, which cannot be carried in luggage due to temperature. It requires a special diabetic passport.

So, in order to carry medications with you, you will need to have with you:

  1. A doctor’s prescription, or a doctor’s opinion on the need for this medicine and its dosage;
  2. A receipt for the purchased product to confirm its origin;
  3. Translation of the recipe into English language- not obligatory, but a desirable touch.

Passengers who have such boarding prescriptions go through the red corridor to fill out the customs declaration.

Rules of various airlines for the carriage of baggage

Although the general rules for carrying baggage and hand luggage on an airplane are almost the same, some airlines may have some special features:

Victory

At the moment, the airline has established free carriage of hand luggage and large luggage with the following parameters. Hand luggage should not exceed 115 cm in length and a weight of 10 kg. Aeroflot hand luggage has strict dimensions - 55*40*20 cm and weighing no more than 10 kg. For business class - no more than 15 kg;

Ural Airlines

This company operates special promotion- “Wings”, which dramatically affects the amount of luggage. At the moment, an ordinary passenger can carry no more than 32 kg, a passenger with a silver level - 40 kg, and a passenger with a gold level - 45 kg.

The size of hand luggage should also not be more than 1 bag weighing no more than 10 kg;

UTair

The company also provides the size of hand luggage for a child without a ticket - 1 piece up to 10 kg. Carriage of strollers in the cabin is prohibited.

As you can see, each company has its own differences in providing luggage transportation services. Each varies depending on the airline and class chosen.
