Where are the best beaches?

In some rare places there is no sandy beach at all, and instead there is a reinforced concrete descent into the water, so be careful when choosing a hotel in Phan Thiet so that you don’t have to walk far to the nearest one sandy beach. Also, the cleanliness and quality of the beaches here greatly depend on the season: in low season The beaches are not cleaned as well, and strong winds and waves bring a lot of garbage. Big waves make the beaches in Mui Ne sometimes simply unsuitable for swimming, but ideal for surfers and kiters.
There are several more beaches south of Phan Thiet ( resort areas). These beaches are considered cleaner because they are located expensive hotels and clean them constantly. But the atmosphere here is almost rural; there is no infrastructure outside the hotels.

By bus

Mopeds in Vietnam are the national mode of transport, and if for some reason this is not suitable, then buses are used. But public transport is not the most comfortable in the country, and it moves slowly. For tourists there is a special type of buses - slipbuses, where you can maximum comfort, as far as possible on the bus, travel between cities.

It takes five hours to cover the distance from Nha Trang to Mui Ne. These buses run on a schedule, but not like regular routes from bus stations. Flights are served by travel agencies, which, in addition to turnkey holidays, also provide such services. Buses depart from the travel agency, but in Mui Ne they can also take you to the hotel.

Buying tickets

Tickets are sold at travel agency offices; Sinhtourist has the opportunity to buy tickets on the website. Tickets are also sold in guesthouses; the hotel adds a small commission to the cost. You can also discuss with the agency a transfer from the hotel to the bus; this will not affect the price, but the minibus may arrive for you a couple of hours before departure. This is not always convenient, because besides you, they will also pick up other tourists along the way, and you will have to drive around the city.

By train

In my opinion, the bus is the most convenient option, but you can go by train. If the station in Nha Trang is located directly in the city:

There is no railway at all in Mui Ne, and there are no direct flights to the nearest one, in Phan Thiet. By train you can get to Muong Man Station (Bình Thuận):

I do not recommend waiting for the train to Phan Thiet (it leaves once a day, at 10:07), and then change to a bus in Mui Ne. It’s better then to take a taxi and go straight to the hotel. The train travels for 4 hours, but it will take another hour, or even longer, to get to the sea. Plus expensive tickets and taxis - no benefit.

Buying tickets

Train tickets can be bought at the station and on the railway website, but the website does not always accept payment, depending on the type of card. The hotel can also help you purchase tickets (with an extra charge).

Price

A train ticket is expensive compared to a bus - 82 thousand dong (3 euros) for travel on wooden benches, and tickets for a compartment or carriage with soft seats cost at least 150 thousand dong (5.5 euros). The taxi driver will ask for 20-25 euros. Be sure to agree on the price before the trip, give money only when you arrive at the place.

By car

Car rental is not very common in Vietnam, the fact is that you can drive a car only with a license issued in the country. With an international license, you need to go to a special department and get a temporary certificate, this will take a week. Patrol licenses are checked, especially for drivers of European appearance.

By plane

There are no suitable airports near Mui Ne, so it is impossible to get there by plane.

Bottom line

We went by bus, I didn’t even consider another option. I can’t say that five hours flew by like five minutes, but we arrived comfortably. We boarded the bus near the travel agency, there was even a mini waiting room there.

Google maps say that the distance from Nha Trang to Mui Ne is a little more than 200 kilometers, in fact it is about 250 kilometers. But all this is not so important if you are traveling by public transport, and not on a motorcycle or moped. Some of my friends covered this path on a moped, after which everyone was dissuaded from such a trip. :)

It doesn’t matter that there are only 250 kilometers between Nha Trang and Phan Thiet, and it seems that it can be covered in just 3 hours. In Vietnam, a bus will travel 250 kilometers in 6 hours. This is probably due to the speed limit on the roads, but you should also take into account the time for stopping and a possible lunch break (about halfway through the trip).

There is a train connection between these Vietnamese cities, but the train does not travel much faster; the fastest one will take you to Phan Thiet in 4 hours.

If you choose a taxi, you can get there in 3 hours, this is perhaps the most quick way, it is also the most expensive.

Buses from Nha Trang to Mui Ne

The most convenient and cheapest way to get from the beaches of Nha Trang to the windsurfing mecca of Mui Ne is by bus. There is also a train connection, but trains arrive in Phan Thiet (Phan Thiet railway station address: ga Phan Thiết Phong Nẫm), which is five kilometers from the tourist village of Mui Ne. you need to initially understand what locality you need.

Important! In high tourist season, tickets should be booked in advance (at least a week in advance), there are many people who want to leave, and there are a limited number of tickets and seats on the bus. If on the date of interest free tickets no, then try playing with the dates.

The price of a ticket for a sleeper bus on the Nha Trang Mui Ne route is approximately $10. This is the cheapest transport, cheaper only by hitchhiking.

Bus departure point from Nha Trang

As a standard, the bus starts from the place where the transport company’s office is located, and not from the shop where you were sold the ticket. In such cases, a transfer from the hotel to the bus itself can be organized - this is standard for everyone resort towns almost all over the world, but Nha Trang has its own rules. But there may be problems with the transfer, read on about this.

Any train, in any country in the world, is much more comfortable than buses. In Vietnam there is Railway, but local trains only connect major cities. Thus, the route from Nha Trang to Mui Ne will go through Phan Thiet. In addition, you should get to the railway station by taxi or bus. This is the only disadvantage of local trains.

The price of the trip will depend on the train, on the speed of its movement, on the class of carriage (there are improved comfort carriages) and on the time of day. You should be guided by $15 for a trip from Nha Trang to Phan Thiet. You can buy a ticket on the above website; in the photo you can see what the names of the stations look like.

There are trains that go directly to Phan Thiet (Ga Phan Thiết station), such trains will take you to the city center. You can use the pass-through train; they stop at the Ga Mương Mán station closest to Phan Thiet.

The main thing here is to understand whether the selected train stops at an intermediate station or transits it. In this case, the city is 10 kilometers away, which can be covered by buses, taxis, or hitchhiking.

Taxi from Nha Trang to Mui Ne

If you are used to comfort and value your time, then the best option there will be a taxi ride. Taxis are common in Vietnam, but the service is very expensive. The price of a prepaid trip (I recommend this option) from Nha Trang to Mui Ne will cost you about 100 dollars, if you take a car on the streets you can save a little (the difference will be 10-15 dollars), or you can run into a swindler (this is not uncommon in Vietnam) .

If you order a taxi by hand, then you should look very carefully at the money you give to the driver and what he returns to you in the form of change (this is one of the biggest taxi driver scams). As I said earlier, taxi prices in Vietnam cannot be called low, even in comparison with Moscow and St. Petersburg. Local carriers charge money for boarding, for disembarking, for waiting, for luggage, and God knows what else. Add to this the possibility of being “heated” with change.

Considering all of the above, especially if the trip is long, I recommend ordering a pre-paid transfer (follow the price link). In this case, you reduce the risk when paying to zero, since payment is made on the site. If the trip triples you, then you can give the driver a tip, but no extra money he has no right to take it from you.

My experience of traveling by bus from Nha Trang to Mui Ne

The next morning at the appointed time, of course, there was no transfer; in hand was a receipt with payment and a phone number. I call from the reception at the number indicated, they answer me that they say it is impossible to understand, I pass the phone to the hostess of the guesthouse.

After a calm conversation between the guest hostess and a representative of the bus company (I think so), I understand that everything will be ok. I’m sitting, worrying, watching the awakening outskirts of a Vietnamese resort town. About five minutes later, a shabby minivan with the same driver arrives, we rush through the streets of Nha Trang on this trough as if we are trying to escape from napalm. Wow, looks like we made it.

When purchasing a ticket, no information about the class of the bus was provided, and it’s good that there wasn’t. In front of me is a brand new air-conditioned sleeper for 140,000 dong.

Inside the bus there are 3 longitudinal rows of reclining reclining seats, but the seats do not recline completely and there remains a small angle, so it cannot be called a true sleeper, but it is a very comfortable thing. The arrangement of the chair-beds is as follows: 2 rows on both sides near the bus windows, and one in the center, the same on the second tier.

There was a warm blanket and a pillow in each seat, the blanket was very useful, during the trip the air conditioner was working, so I asked the driver to turn it off, no one was going to turn off the air conditioner, but I pulled another blanket from the empty seat next to me and the long-awaited happiness came. The bed of the sleeper bus is designed in such a way that you can put your things at the feet; my small 20 liter backpack fits there perfectly.

The bus departed late from Nha Trang and sailed across the expanses of Vietnam. Some people always admire Vietnamese views, even if all you can see from the window is a garbage dump. I won’t argue that Vietnamese roads are very picturesque in places, but the road from Nha Trang to Mui Ne seemed bland to me. First the industrial outskirts of Nha Trang, then the rice fields, then the villages and so on.

The route goes along the sea no more than 10% of the way, so it’s not very picturesque, having clarified that Mui Ne is the final station of the bass, I fall asleep, but soon they wake me up and offer to take advantage of the 20-minute stop, which is very useful, even if it were a three-time sleeper bass, but limbs still go numb.

I consider the intermediate stop simply to visit the toilet, since the bus stop is not long and ordering food, and then hastily packing it into yourself is a thankless task.

If I had known earlier that Mui Ne could be reached by sleeper, I would have taken a night bus, and would have saved my hotel budget and slept on the road.
