Reminder for tourists - comments on the tour to Paris. Technical parameters of the metro

The Paris Metro (Paris metro) is one of the world's oldest underground networks. railway transport. The words "metro" and "metropolitan" also have French origin. The metro network covers both Paris itself and its surrounding suburbs. The French subway is characterized by a number of features that will be discussed in this article.

Underground train network

At the Paris metro there is a network of Parisian commuter trains with the abbreviation RER, the lines of which reach the surface already outside the city. This network can be considered as part of the Paris metro, since both networks function as one.

History of the metro

The history of the Paris Metro goes back more than 100 years. It was opened in July 1900. Most of the stations were built by 1920. They were designed by designer Hector Guimard. When laying underground lines, builders tried to bypass basements and cellars located under houses. Therefore, the metro was built strictly along the streets. Since the width of the streets was not sufficient everywhere, this was reflected in the unevenness of the platforms and their displacement relative to each other at some stations.

During the First World War, the metro survived better times. The number of service personnel has sharply decreased. More women began to be recruited to work in the metro, as many men went to the front. Due to a lack of electricity, some trains did not have lighting and passengers traveled in complete darkness, which was the cause of numerous complaints.

During the bombings, people tried to take refuge in metro stations, which led to stampedes and casualties. Because of this, we even had to replace the doors so that they opened in both directions. However, the construction of lines continued, although not as quickly as before.

At the very beginning of World War II, the need for underground transport decreased. Most of the stations were closed for a while, and some never reopened, turning into ghost stations. However, after 1940, the load on the metro increased sharply, and it began to transport over 1 billion people a year. The metro has become the main mode of transport in the city. This was explained by the sharp rise in gasoline prices and the closure of tram traffic back in 1937. During the war, metro trains were constantly overloaded with passengers.

Some stations were partially destroyed by bombing. Deeply located stations were used as bomb shelters.

Despite the difficult situation, the metro lines continued to be completed, commissioning more and more new sections.

Features of the Paris metro

The Paris metro is a dense, extensive network of underground metro lines with big amount stations. In the city center they are located closer to each other. The occurrence of the lines is shallow. Sometimes they come to the surface. Often the entrances to metro stations look rather inconspicuous.

The metro carries 4.5 million passengers per day, and about 1.5 billion per year. This is one of the most visited metro in the world. It allows you to relieve the ground transport network and helps improve the environmental situation in the city.

The metro network consists of 16 lines (14 long and 2 short). Lines cross often. Transfer stations have been created at the intersection points. There are 62 transfer stations, and the total number of stations is 302 units. If we analyze the metro by the number of stops on all lines, then there will be even more of them - 383 units (one transfer station is equivalent to two stops). The number of stations located outside is 21, the rest are located underground. The bulk of ground stations belong to line 6.

Metro stations in Paris are very densely located. The average distance between them is 562 meters. Unlike the Moscow metro, the lines of the Paris metro have a large number of turns, and the speed of the trains is quite low.

Features of cars and trains

The total length of the lines is 220 km. Most carriages have semi-automatic rather than automatic doors. To open them, people themselves must press a button or press a lever. Often stations are announced in cars in advance, 2 times and with an interval of 2 seconds. There is also an informative indicator light. However, in old-type carriages there is none of this, and passengers are forced to use the old-fashioned method - look at the names of stations that are written on their walls in capital letters.

As a rule, one train moves only within one line, so if you have a plan, you won’t be able to get lost in the metro. The plan can be viewed in the train carriage.

The Paris metro uses 2 types of cars: regular ones and those with rubber tires on wheels. The latter make much less noise and were developed by local engineers in the 60s of the twentieth century. They require special rails, and, accordingly, high costs for the reconstruction of the railway system, so they are not widespread in the Paris metro.

Technical parameters of the metro

Technical features largely reflect the specifics of the Paris metro:

  • The railway gauge is 143.5 cm, which is normal for the metro. Direct current of 750 Volts is used as power supply.
  • Trains travel along the line at an average speed of 35 km/h, which is quite low.
  • Two lines - 1 and 14 - are in automatic control mode, that is, trains move without drivers.
  • The majority of stations are of the single-vault type or are single-span with a side platform.
  • Many lines have loops at the ends. Thanks to them, the train can move forward without stopping, which is quite convenient. The terminal stations are located near the loops. Such lines were built before the First World War.

Metro cost in Paris

Paris has a rather complex system of fares for the metro and other modes of transport. In 2017, the cost of a one-time ticket was 1.9 euros. This ticket is suitable not only for traveling on the metro, but also on other types of public transport and in the underground system suburban electric trains RER, but only within the city. A ticket for commuter travel on an electric train will cost 7 euros. It can only be used for 1 trip. public transport.

You can buy a ticket from special machines or kiosks at the entrance to the metro station.

For a larger number of trips, you can purchase a travel book consisting of 10 tickets. Traveling this way will cost significantly less than using a single ticket.

A NaviGo pass is also used for unlimited travel on any type of transport within a specified period. The most popular is the purchase of unlimited for a week or a month.

Subway operation diagram

Such is that all the branches intersect with each other, and also pass through Ile-de-France. Each branch is marked with its own individual color. At any of them there are stations with a transition to another line or to the RER commuter train system. On the Paris metro map in Russian and other languages, metro lines are marked with strictly defined colors.

The metro opens at 5:30 and closes at 00:40. On Friday and Saturday, as well as before holidays, the metro operates until 01:40. During busy periods, about 2 minutes pass between train arrivals. During low load times, the interval between trains increases to 8-10 minutes.

Features of Paris metro stations

Subway stations small size and decorated rather modestly. They look more like platforms for trains than the usual metro stations. There is no luxury here. Another characteristic feature of the Paris metro is the presence of platforms along the edge of the station, and not in the center, as in Moscow.

Ghost stations

Ghost stations are peculiar attractions of the Paris metro. The history of the metro is closely intertwined with them. Many of them were closed in the first half of the twentieth century or simply were not completed. Some of the stations closed in 1939 were never put into operation. Another 2 remained unfinished and have no exit to the outside. One of them is the ghost station Akso. Among those that were closed but not put into operation is the rather famous Cinema station, which is also called Port De Lila. It is actively used in the filming of feature films and advertising.

Some stations were closed for a long time and reopened only in recent decades. These are Cluny, Rennes, Liege and some others.

Reminder for tourists in Paris

Any diligent fifth-grader can list the main attractions of Paris. But here you can also go crazy over coffee and croissants, visit architectural exhibitions and museums - or just sit on a bench in Montmartre, looking at passers-by.

There are 20 arrondissements in Paris, their numbering starts in the Louvre area and goes spirally clockwise.

Transport in Paris

In Paris there are 14 RATP metro lines (operating hours from 5:30 to 0:30) and 4 RER lines - a high-speed commuter metro with transfer stations from the city metro and SNSF trains. RER operates from 5:30 to 24:00. Bus operating hours are from 6:30 to 00:30.

Within the city limits, the same tickets can be used for both types of metro and buses. They must be composted and stored throughout the trip. You can buy a weekly metro pass (valid strictly from Monday to Sunday, a photo is required). The cost of 1 ticket is 1.60 EUR, 10 tickets - 11.6 EUR. A daily ticket costs 5.90 EUR, a weekly ticket costs 17.20 EUR.

Taxis have three tariffs: tariff “A” (0.89 EUR / km) is valid from Monday to Saturday from 7:00 to 17:00 within the city, and tariff “B” (1.14 EUR / km) is valid on weekends And holidays, as well as at night and outside the city within greater Paris, tariff “C” (1.38 EUR / km) is valid on weekends and holidays, as well as at night outside the city within greater Paris. Landing - only at a special parking lot or ordering a taxi by phone; you can stop a taxi on the street if the car is free and is located no closer than 50 m from the nearest parking lot. Getting into a taxi costs 2.2 EUR, each piece of luggage costs 1 EUR. It is not customary to sit in the front seat of a taxi.

Local trains, as well as high-speed TGV (Trains a Grande Vitesse) trains, connect the capital with major cities, as well as with European countries.

In the Paris metro, inspectors walk through the carriages.

You shouldn’t count on “private traders” in Paris - it’s not accepted there. It is easier (and often faster) to walk around the city center: driving there is very difficult due to constant traffic jams and difficulties with parking.

When traveling on the TGV it is recommended to reserve a ticket in advance; on other railway lines this is not necessary (except during holiday periods when it is not easy to buy a ticket). You can reserve tickets at any station, regardless of your destination.

Summer in Paris is usually hot (especially August), although the west wind brings freshness. Winters are mild and it rarely snows. The temperature almost never drops below −10 °C. The most favorable time to travel to Paris is spring and September-October.

Current weather forecast in Paris for the coming days.

Be careful in Paris

The most prestigious arrondissements in Paris are 1 to 8 and 16. The 19th and 20th arrondissements are considered unfavorable from a security point of view (we do not advise women to appear there unaccompanied by men). In places where tourists gather, you should be attentive to your handbags and mobile phones.

For group tours, accommodation is usually in the 9th arrondissement. This is a business district, quite calm, except for the famous Rue Pigalle (in the north of the district) with sex shops, peep shows, etc. If the tour is by bus, accommodation is possible outside the ring road. Accommodation in a distant suburb, where there are no metro stations, must be agreed upon in advance, and it usually costs less. In the 2nd arrondissement of Paris, it is prohibited to feed pigeons under threat of a fine.

Money

Banks are open from 10:00 to 17:00, exchange offices- from 10:00 to 18:00. IN tourist places There are exchange offices open until 24:00. In other places there are very few exchange offices operating around the clock.

Exchange offices charge commissions, so you should check their amount in advance.

Shopping: shops in Paris

Shops are usually open every day, except Sundays, from 10:00 to 19:00. The boutiques of famous fashion houses are located on Avenue Montaigne, the Champs-Elysées and Rue Faubourg Saint-Honoré. The most popular places for shopping are the famous Galeries Lafayette and Printant (they are located next to Place de l'Opéra) and, located outside the city, the boutique village La Vallée Village. Read more about shopping in the French capital on the “Shops in Paris” page.

On Monday, many stores open later than usual. Small private shops often close for lunch between 13:00 and 15:00.

Cuisine and restaurants of Paris

In restaurants, lunch hours are from 12:00 to 15:00, dinner - from 19:00 to 23:00. The rest of the time they will offer cold appetizers and sandwiches. In a cafe or restaurant, the waiter will arrive in about 15 minutes; the duration of lunch should be approximately an hour and a half.

Service in Parisian restaurants is very leisurely - it is believed that cafe visitors should first enjoy conversation with each other. Therefore, if a tourist wants to eat quickly, he should directly tell the waiter about this: then everything will be brought quickly enough.

The first pump room with sparkling water began operating in the Reuilly garden, located in the 12th arrondissement of Paris. Anyone can drink from it completely free of charge. The Reuilly garden is located near the Montgallet metro station, entrance from avenue Daumesnil.

In restaurants it is customary to order something substantial. If you just want to have a snack, it is best to look into one of the cafes labeled “Brasserie”. Lunch there will cost approximately 15 EUR, and lunch hours are not strictly limited.

In the Latin Quarter, restaurants are open until one in the morning. Chinese restaurants are always open. Many cafes offer a set menu for lunch - it's cheaper.

Restaurants

Bistrot Victoires

6, rue de la Vrilliere (1), corner rue Catinat; tel 01 42 61 43 78, Metro Bourse.

A very high quality and very beautiful bistro with frighteningly low prices (salads - £8, main courses - £9) and frighteningly huge portions (those who order a salad are honestly warned not to roll their lips to continue). An absolutely amazing place for a center, which has also existed for many years. Quite a large hall, but there are always a little more people than there are tables. Plus is also open on Sunday, offering both regular dishes and brunch for £13.90.

Mon-Fri 8.00-23.30, Sat-Sun 10.00-23.30

Menu - ?15, MC, Visa.

Le Cochon a l'Oreille

15, rue Montmartre (1); tel 01 42 36 07 56; Metro Les Halles.

At first you don’t understand how such a traditional place has survived next to the fashionable Rue Etienne-Marseille. Then you begin to look at every detail: a bronze chandelier, majolica panels from the life of old shopping arcades and a dull shiny metal stand - real French “zinc”. Along the wall are lovely tram-style benches and a few shabby tables for lone eaters. “Pig with an Ear” serves marrow bones with black bread and coarse salt, excellent duck and lamb. For casual acquaintances, this is an uninteresting steak. Wine is drunk a la ficelle: a bottle is placed on the table, and you pay for as much as you drink.

Mon, Wed-Fri, Sun 8.00-22.15, Tue, Sat 8.00-18.00

Menu - ?27-34, Credit cards not accepted.

13, rue de l'Ancienne Comedie (6); tel 01 40 46 79 00; Metro Odeon.

The oldest Parisian cafe has been feeding and nourishing Parisians since 1686 - bourgeois, revolutionaries, royalists, Bonapartists. Voltaire, Rousseau, Diderot, Danton and Robespierre, Napoleon - everyone came here to taste a plateau with sea reptiles or a rooster in wine. In memory of the Italian founder Francesco Procopio, the menu contains many dishes with an Apennine accent, although they taste quite French. There are a lot of places on two floors, but in the evening there is still not enough for everyone.

Mon-Sun 12.00-1.00

Lunch - ?18.50-24, menu - ?40-60

AmEx, DC, MC, Visa

17, rue Malar (7); tel 01 44 18 31 33; Metro Invalides.

The menu is worthy of a fine dining restaurant, but the prices are more than reasonable. Particular attention goes to snails in parsley sauce on the finest golden puff pastry and stingray cooked in lemon sauce, served with lightly poached vegetables. The daily fixed menu is highly recommended.

Tue-Sat 12.00-14.30, 19.30-22.30

Closed 2 weeks in August

Evening menu - ?30-40

10, place Constantin Brancusi (14); tel 01 43 22 09 01; Metro Gate.

www.la-cagouille.fr

One of the best places in the city for fish and seafood. In the summer, when the thick foliage obscures Piazza Brancusi from view, you can sit on the terrace and imagine yourself in a port restaurant somewhere in Brittany.

Mon-Sun 12.00-14.00, 19.30-22.30

Menu - ?23, average lunch - ?38

Le Petit Porcheron

3, rue de Prague (12); tel 01 43 47 39 47; Metro Ledru-Rollin.

Simple place with good food and cheerful waiters. The dishes are the most familiar - like leg of lamb or fish in salt. Chefs, however, are prone to experiments in desserts and strive to bake the most traditional Tatin cake instead of apples with mango, and (wonderful, by the way) mille-feuille with dried dates.

Mon-Sun 12.00-14.30, 20.00-23.00

Menu - ?25-30

La Villa des Abbesses

61, rue des Abbesses (18); tel 01 42 57 96 77; Metro Abbesses.

The restaurant, bar and tea salon, which stays up until 2 a.m., is located far enough from the tourist part of Montmartre so that random guests do not come here. But close enough for those who know and appreciate this place for the friendliness of the waitresses, the interior in the spirit of the American 1950s, delicious food and a glass of champagne included in the most popular menu. Don't expect high-end cuisine, but a good average level is provided, which is a rarity in this area.

Mon-Sun 12.00-0.00

AmEx, DC, MC, Visa

L'Auberge des Trois Bonheurs

280, rue Saint-Honore (1); tel 01 42 60 43 24; Metro Tuileries.

A Chinese restaurant in a completely non-Chinese area. Despite this, it is highly appreciated by the diaspora and - surprisingly for the bourgeois Saint-Honoré - is full of real Chinese, leafing through newspapers from the Middle Kingdom laid out at the entrance. Europeans come here for the wonderful Peking lacquered duck.

Mon-Sun 19.00-23.50

Entertainment, excursions and attractions in Paris

Any diligent fifth-grader can now list the most interesting sights of Paris and all of France. True, this does not apply to museums: most only remember the Louvre. And, by the way, it’s completely in vain: many museums in Paris deserve the most attention for the paintings of the great impressionists alone.

  • France is an extraordinary land, endowed not only with the amazing beauty of nature, but also with the most beautiful things in architecture, cuisine, mysticism and fashion. In it, the elegance of the capital's palaces joins in wondrous order with the sweet simplicity of the villages of Provence. Here there is absolutely everything for a luxurious and prosperous life: the shores of the Atlantic Ocean, the azure coast of the Mediterranean Sea, the snow-capped peaks of the Alps, wonderful forests and bows, and, of course, an economical economy.

But a special drive for the pride of every Frenchman is the greatness, incompleteness and incomparability of any other capital in the world #8230-Paris! If you want to visit Paris, reminders will appear on your skin. Among other places in the world of Paris, there are luxurious parks, a unique style of life, and, most importantly, the Parisians themselves, endowed with a mysterious charm and a certain amount of luxury.

Paris is the place of the wicked, the poets and the artists - the place that dictates the fashion of the entire earthly culture, and where masterpieces of high-world cuisine are celebrated. This place is a fairy tale, a place of darkness, which has not yet deprived anyone of anything, will support the spirit for the rest of their lives, and having met this dandy once, you will never leave his heart again. But, first of all, what inspires respect when knowing the French capital is the monuments of Paris, which represent the decline of great history and have great artistic value.

    Eiffel Tower

It is impossible to talk about this place without knowing about its main symbol - the Eiffel Tower. Today it turned into a real Mecca for tourists, admiring its grandeur both during the day and in the light of the night lights. It is important to realize that immediately after the announcement, it caused a storm of protests and complaints. And only those whose creator, Gustave Eiffel, were able to recognize the old government’s stagnation - it was equipped with a device for transmitting radio - and TV equipment, as well as the weather bureau - which contributed to the legendary metal structure and live to this day.

Today, the Eiffel Tower is a great tourist attraction; on three levels, in addition to the sightseeing Maidans, there are also chic restaurants where you can taste the finest flavors of French cuisine and at the same time admire the memory `Yatki of Paris from the height of the bird's flight. But especially the night landscapes of the place, flooded with golden fires, will be loved, such a view will simply overwhelm them!

At the very bottom of this grandiose symbol of all France, the Champs-Élysées stretches out grandly, which has already been so many times beckoning with luxurious storefronts, fashionable restaurants and quiet cafés. It is in this place that the military specialists of the most famous French corporations spend their daily work and choose to live outside the Parisians.

    Arc de Triomphe

Unfathomable Paris and the Arc de Triomphe on Place Carrousel, famous all over the world. Vaughn emphasizes the magnitude of the Emperor’s insurmountable stake, the reach of the entire French monarchy and its people. Such was the situation that the great commander could not have mercy on this architectural masterpiece, the construction of which dragged on for a whole decade. There is one piquant detail associated with the history of this monument. On the right, until that moment, the ensemble of the arch was organically complemented by horses made of bronze, like a trophy, Napoleon Bonaparte took from an Italian temple. Later they were turned over to the legitimate rulers.

    Louvre

From the Arc de Triomphe along the symbolic route you can go straight to the Louvre. And this is not at all unusual, even in our time it is the largest light museum, and if the Louvre is a fortification dispute, it is one of the royal residences. Beginning in the 12th century, the ruling kings decided to refurbish the castle in their own way, adding various artistic elements and entire architectural ensembles. Because of their efforts we can be overwhelmed by such unpretentious and harmonious results in one ideological whole. The last modernization of the Louvre is the construction of the pyramidal glass dome at the end of the last century.

Today, the Louvre is not the most popular object for tourists, like other important monuments of Paris, but it is a magnet that attracts guests from all over the world. Ever since the historic cultural collapse, people have been obsessing over this treasure trove of masterpieces of light mysticism, the likes of which simply cannot be found. Excursions around the Louvre are not similar to empty tours of museums; they help you to travel back to a bygone era, to come across the most famous creations of human genius.

    Versailles

One of the most luxurious castles of the French monarchy, also one of the main landmarks of Paris is Versailles. This castle went through a long journey of development, standing on the outset of its life in front of a small settlement of rural residents, and becoming a luxurious palace much later, which was created by King Louis XIV. The idea of giving the palace the look that we already know came to Louis from his childhood to his minister of finance, who had a luxurious palace in the town of Vaux-le-Vicomte. In his own words, the French king believed that his castle could be turned into a luxurious palace a hundred times over by the minister. So, kings never dared to admit to themselves “little” weaknesses!

Today it is so easy to imagine with one’s eyes how ladies strolled through the green, pristine territory of the Versailles park, accompanied by fashionable cavaliers, and in whose dark corners palace intrigues took place.

Cathedral of Our Lady of Paris

Absolutely all the important monuments of Paris today are respected and buried. Alas, singly, every one of them is not remembered as much as the Cathedral of Our Lady of Paris, known to the whole world, which evokes a writhing awe among deeply converted atheists. It is not without reason that the masterpiece of light architecture is dedicated to the famous novel of the same name by Victor Hugo, a true Frenchman and a true patriot of his land.

The temple in the Gothic style reflects the sophistication of its forms, the thoughtfulness of the skin details, the ornate decoration, and the entire architectural ensemble is permeated with harmony. This awakening cannot help but enchant. Before you enter the middle, you wander around the perimeter in fascination, gasping at how ingenious the work of human hands can be, how subtly beauty can be conveyed in stone, and how this beauty is lost by the constant stretch of time.

Notre-Dame de Paris, as the French call it, is the result of the work of more than a dozen architects, over several centuries, and for its creation the finest materials, advanced technologies and unique artistic expressions were used. There are thousands of people who put their whole soul into everyday life. And, melodiously, to the small island of Sîte, which separates from the calming place the calm waters of the Seine, people from all over the earth have been hastening for hundreds of years.

Take a look here and enjoy the great peace and harmony that is almost incomplete in words, as it is pandemonium here. Moreover, from the height of the cathedral a marvelous panorama of the place is revealed, while in the silence of the temple one can calmly watch out for the bustling metropolis. And here you can walk through the most unusual gallery - the Chimera Gallery.

Without a doubt, all the masterpieces of Paris fill the soul with the sensuality of beauty, confirmation of the harmony of our world and the genius of human thought. And the number of different information carriers that preserve the reminders of Paris is great: photos, videos, canvases, etc. Having restored Paris once and again.
