Krasnaya Polyana open trails. The long-awaited opening of the alpine. Gazprom Laura slopes and lifts

Preparation

It just so happens that since I was fifteen I have been riding alpine skiing Oh. When he lived in Siberia, he skated in Krasnoyarsk and Lake Baikal, and after moving to Moscow - in the Caucasus and the Alps. Last winter, get out on ski resort somehow it didn’t work out, and therefore this year the desire was stronger than ever. Unfortunately, being in the status of temporarily unemployed, it is very difficult to obtain a Schengen visa and rush to the Alps, and I had to solve the difficult issue of choosing a skiing destination within Russia or visa-free countries.

At first there was an idea to go to Turkey or even Montenegro, where I was. But with the increased euro exchange rate, the trip was not very cheap, and there was no guarantee of snow in March. So we had to choose from “our” places. There were several criteria for choosing a direction:

  • visa-free entry;
  • the presence of simple slopes for learning to snowboard;
  • normal infrastructure and service;
  • mild climate;
  • beautiful nature.

The second requirement removed the Elbrus slopes from the list and Central Asia. Due to poor infrastructure, we had to abandon the trip to Dombay and Khibiny. It's not super beautiful in the Urals. So Krasnaya Polyana was ideal for us. Fast and inexpensive road, green training trails at Gazprom, comfortable ski lifts and decent mini-hotels. And the notorious high prices... Well, we simply had no choice =)

At the beginning of February, we bought two Aeroflot tickets Moscow-Sochi-Moscow for only 8800 rubles and began to little by little prepare for the trip. To my joy, my friend Max lent me a board and boots (we have the same foot size and height!) and I definitely decided to finally get on a snowboard. I wanted to see for myself what was better. In addition, there was confidence that the board would definitely give skis a head start in the backcountry theme. The board is lighter in weight and moving around in Bordeaux boots is incomparably easier and more comfortable than in plastic ski shackles. In general, down with ski hegemony!!!

UPDATE from 09/25/2015! In order to understand the current prices for skiing in Krasnaya Polyana and answer your questions eternal question"Europe or Krasnaya Polyana?" I advise you to read this material, which provides, in my opinion, an adequate comparison of prices for the 2015/2016 season, the pros and cons of holidays in the Alps or the Caucasus.

An experienced skier who already has good ski clothes, a mask and a helmet will need very few specific Bordeaux accessories that will protect you from injuries and speed up the learning process. Due to the nature of boarding, you fall on your hands, knees, or on your butt. Therefore you will need:

  • wrist protection;
  • knee pads;
  • shorts that protect the tailbone.

In addition to the board and boots, Max also lent me wrist protection from the famous Padonkovo company Dakine. Instead of hard plastic knee pads, I used my old soft and elastic neoprene ones. Thus, I only needed to buy protective shorts (the simplest ones for 1,500 rubles in the legendary Extreme store) and good Level gore-tex gloves in size XL. This was an unexpected waste of money, since it turned out that my hand with the wrist protection on would not fit into my regular mittens.

When I took the case with the board and boots home, I felt the first advantage of a snowboard over alpine skis - the board is lighter and about 10-15 cm shorter than the skis. This is a significant advantage during transportation! So, the preparations are over. It's time to go!

Sochi - Krasnaya Polyana

Actually, Aeroflot flight number 869 Moscow-Sochi departs from Moscow at 9:15 in the morning, but on this day it took off at the beginning of ten. Because of this, we arrived in Sochi in the first hour of the day and found the lockers located on the station square closed for lunch, which happens from 13:00 to 14:00. Because of this, our trip on the Adler-Lazarevskoye train was burdened with two snowboard covers. You're probably wondering why we're going to Lazarevskoye with boards??

The point is that we decided to implement old dream– swim with dolphins. We were unable to agree on an individual visit with the dolphinarium located in Adler, but such a service is available at the Lazarevsky Dolphinarium.

Traveling by bus from Adler to Lazarevsky is long and tiring, taking a taxi is expensive, but taking a comfortable train with soft seats is just right. The train leaves from Adler railway station at 14:13 and arrives in Lazarevskoye at 16:10. The ticket costs 150 rubles. We arrived in Lazarevskoye exactly on schedule, walked about 10 minutes and ended up at the dolphinarium. Half an hour of swimming with the dolphins Klepa and Plusha passed unnoticed and gave an unforgettable experience. Dolphins are very funny, each with their own character. In general, I recommend it to everyone. This is never forgotten!

We also returned back to Adler by train. It was already late, and Krasnaya Polyana could only be reached by taxi. The market price of the car today is about 1200 rubles. The drive is about 30-40 minutes.

The first time I was in Krasnaya Polyana was in 2002. Then in 2005. And finally, the fall before last, in 2007. The village is changing a lot. Previously, this was an ordinary village, where tourists were taken to taste honey and mead on the way to the cable car. Now in Polyana there are several dozen small private hotels and several premium hotels. I think by 2014 it will be an exemplary mountain village. I would really like for Dombay to be seized by such a fever someday too!

Initially, on the recommendation of friends, we planned to stay at Villa Deja Vu, where we booked a standard Double Room at a price of 3300 per night. But when we arrived, it turned out that the electricity had been cut off that evening, and there was no light in the hotel. Our taxi driver quickly got his bearings and suggested we look at several other “nice places.” We stayed in one of them, in the private mini-hotel “Tukan”. Having bargained (after all, it’s not the peak season!) with the owner Andrey from the initial 2800 rubles to “2200 plus a free pool,” we decided to stay.

At first we were a little annoyed by the fact that from the hotel located in the very center of the village of Krasnaya Polyana to the cable car is quite far (5 km, taxi drivers charge 250 rubles per car), but it turned out that in Krasnaya Polyana it is a widespread practice that no matter where you live , in the morning and evening the hotel owners take you to the ski lifts completely free of charge! So you don’t have to worry about the distance of the hotel from the cable car.

Looking ahead, I will say that we liked living at the Tukan Hotel. The owner Andrey is a hospitable and intelligent person, the rooms of the second (newer) building are 2-3* and overlook the mountains, there is silence all around, there is good bath(1500 rubles for 1.5 hours) and a pool of 4*10 meters, the food there is simple and home-style, the price is very humane (Kiev cutlet with a side dish costs 200 rubles), and the grocery store is only 5 minutes on foot. In general, we can recommend this place as a mid-budget place. Why average? Because you can find both cheaper (a room in the “private sector” for 500-700 rubles per person) and much more expensive (4* hotels and the like).

Riding on Gazprom

Today, there are three skating rinks in Krasnaya Polyana - Alpika, ski resort Gazprom and the Gornaya Karusel complex. I bring brief characteristics slopes operating for the period "winter 2008/2009":

  • Alpika - skiing heights from 540 to 2238 m, the length of the slopes is about 15 km, only one cable car (4 stages) with a capacity in the “bottleneck” on the third stage of only 720 people/hour;
  • Gazprom - 6 cable cars(including a closed trailer), with a total capacity of 6500 people/hour, 16 tracks with a total length of about 12 km, ski height from 1435 to 900 m;
  • Mountain Carousel - 1 cable car with a capacity of 2000 people/hour, skiing height from 1450 to 960 m, length of the tracks is about 5 km.

A full overview of the slopes of Krasnaya Polyana can be found on the website ski.ru. But in my opinion, the currently operating first stage of the “Mountain Carousel” is interesting only during the peak season, when the queues for the Alpine will be large. The Alpine trails are interesting for two reasons. Firstly, this is the upper (fourth) stage, where the snow lies until May and if you have sufficient off-piste skiing skills, you can ski off-piste. The second feature of Alpika is, again, off-piste skiing, but in the forest. They say (I haven’t tried it myself) that this is a very cool thing, but you need to be lucky with the snowfall!

As for us, during our week in Krasnaya Polyana we never made it to the Alpika. The fact is that, due to the abnormally early spring, there was no snow on the first and second stages, riding on the “troika” was no better than on Gazprom, and the “four”, due to dense clouds and avalanche danger, was almost all the time closed. So I’d better tell you why I liked riding on Gazprom:

  • There are two training tracks here. Route “C” is quite flat, route “E” at its steepest section is already close to “blue”;
  • the range of trails from “green” to “black” allows people with different levels of experience to ski;
  • to the beginning of all the routes, to a height of 1400 meters, you are lifted by a closed carriage (gondola) protecting from the rain;
  • excellent infrastructure. Everything you need is there. Cafes, ski and snowboard rentals, electronic information stand with information about open slopes, operating lifts, avalanche danger, and air temperature.

The first day we skied only on the training slopes “C” and “E”, equipped with rope tows. As a result, by the end of the first day of riding I was confidently standing on the board, I could turn tolerably and not fall on these simple routes. In principle, we were ready to use the services of instructors (here they cost around 3,000 - 4,000 rubles for 2 hours of classes), but watching the film “Simple Movements,” downloaded from the Internet, turned out to be completely sufficient. These are the words of Sveta, who had never been to big mountains, but only skied on the slopes near Moscow:

“Yesterday it was +24 and we walked around Adler in T-shirts. Today we are in Polyane, it is raining lightly, and we are going for a ride. We were taken to the mountain by wonderful cabins. I left the cabin and this is what I saw: there were mountains and clouds around, a Christmas tree and no rain (for the first three hours)! Very beautiful! Fresh air (except for snowmobiles =)! There is a lot of snow and it seems to be real =). There are many trails and lifts, everyone skis where he needs to, and not all on one slope, as in Moscow. As a result, there is no crowding either on the lift or on the slopes. It was my first time on a rope tow!!! I went the first time! In general, the key words are MUCH and BEAUTIFUL!”

By the third day of skiing, I was already quite confident (without stopping or falling) on the blue slopes (we liked the “D” slope the most). The trick is that to enter a turn you need to lean forward, down the slope, to load the toe or heel of your front foot. It really goes against reflexes. It’s scary to lean forward and down where little people are flashing. On the contrary, I reflexively want to lean back. Now I understand the meaning of the snowboarding joke that “if a person has a front and a back leg, then he is a boarder!”

Unfortunately, due to the abnormally warm spring, the red and black “F” tracks were closed, so I personally cannot tell you reliably about them. But I heard from many good skiers that it is very interesting there!

As an avid skier, I can say that I really liked the snowboard. This is something completely different! Completely different movements. The body works differently, completely different muscles are involved. In a way, it's really more fun. It’s a pity that I didn’t manage to try freeride (I still need to learn). In short, after boarding I definitely stopped being an “unapologetic” skier. I found both pros and cons of this method of active winter holiday. In my opinion, the main advantages of snowboarding compared to skis are:

  • Comfort of snow boots;
  • The lightness of the entire set “board + crepes + boots”;
  • Skating on a board doesn't kill your knees.

However, snowboarding is not perfect. A skier will not like snowboarding very much:

  • lack of poles when traveling to flat areas;
  • the need to constantly sit on the snow to fasten the bindings before descending;
  • less confident driving on hard and icy slopes;
  • It’s inconvenient to ride a rope tow (if they suddenly get caught).

Of course, almost all the advantages can be solved. Some people carry telescopic poles in their backpacks, use step-in mounts, and don’t use drag lifts at all =) In general, to each his own. But I will definitely ride the board again! It’s even likely that I’ll buy myself board boots and take them along with my ski boots to the resorts, and depending on my mood and the condition of the slopes, I’ll rent various new interesting models of skis or snowboards. That's more interesting!

Now about Krasnaya Polyana itself. I would say that the main advantages of skiing in Krasnaya Polyana are:

  • fast and inexpensive road from Moscow,
  • no visa required
  • the highest level of service in the “big mountains” in the CIS.

Perhaps I could recommend skating at Krasnaya Polyana to people who want to learn how to skate well as quickly as possible. Still, the opportunity to study with a Russian-speaking instructor is worth a lot, no matter how well you know English. And the cost of such an “educational” trip to the Alps, whatever one may say, will be much more expensive. And in our case (when it was impossible to get Schengen) there is simply no alternative to Krasnaya Polyana.

If you are a good skier or boarder, then Krasnaya Polyana is of interest only as an opportunity to go freeride. But snow, as you know, is a capricious thing! Therefore, I would advise you to do the following: buy several plane tickets (for example, in one-week increments, such as February 1, February 7, February 15), and then just monitor the weather. If there is a lot of snow by February 1st, fly; if it doesn’t, return your first ticket and wait for further snowfall. At least this way you will definitely get on the snow and get a guaranteed buzz. For example, Aeroflot accepts tickets for return with a deduction of only some 30-40 rubles as a service fee.

But of course, this place is not perfect, like any other. Now, due to the ongoing Olympic construction, the aesthetics of recreation are greatly affected, and of course cannot be compared with the well-groomed Alpine resorts. Unlike Europe, where you can “rush to Vienna” or “go shopping in Milan” or even just explore nearby small towns with interest, there is practically nothing to do in Krasnaya Polyana on days off from skiing. I was also unpleasantly surprised by the fact that there is no single ski pass for the three cable cars. Each company sells a ski pass that is valid only on their cable car. This is of course "last century" =(

My advice to those planning to ride on Krasnaya Polyana:

  • The best time to travel is after New Year's holidays until mid-March. Ideally, I think, to go in the first half of February. Then there won’t be many people, and most likely there will be enough snow for skiing without it starting to melt yet;
  • Booking hotels online is a mistake and a waste of money. Today there are a sufficient number of hotels in Polyana to easily choose the best accommodation for yourself and receive a discount upon personal communication with the hotel management;
  • The Gazprom slopes are ideal for learning to ski, and the Alpika for advanced levels.

As for me, despite the disadvantages of Krasnaya Polyana, I will definitely return here immediately after the Olympics, when all the construction debris will be removed, and the total length of the trails after the opening of the Rosa Khutor complex will increase to at least 50 km.

Prices

A week-long trip to Krasnaya Polyana cost us 22 thousand rubles per person. Here are the main expense items:

  • flight Moscow-Sochi-Moscow by Aeroflot airline - 4400 rubles per person;
  • taxi from Adler airport to Krasnaya Polyana - 1000 rubles per car;
  • private mini-hotel "Tukan" - 2200 rubles per day for a standard double room with breakfast;
  • ski pass for one day of skiing at Gazprom - from 1000 rubles on a weekday to 1500 rubles on a holiday;
  • lunch on the mountain (soup, sausages, tea) - 800 rubles for two;
  • dinner at the Tukan Hotel (soup, main course or salad, tea) - 500 rubles for two;
  • bathhouse, 1.5 hours with a broom - 1600 rubles;
  • rental of a snowboard + boots set - 1000 rubles per day;
  • taxi around the village - 250 rubles per car;
  • food prices in the supermarket in Krasnaya Polyana are Moscow prices;
  • swimming with dolphins - 2500 rubles per person for half an hour;
  • see full list of expenses.

Postscript: unfortunately, there are no photos of the actual skating. This is a separate topic, and there was no time to tinker with it. I wanted to ride more =)

The Gazprom mountain tourism complex in Krasnaya Polyana is rightfully considered one of the most comfortable in Russia. Everything is convenient here. All buses and routes stop here. The lower station is organized logically and conveniently. Pleasant blue slopes begin immediately from the first cable car and the Psekhako Shelter. To get to the rest, you need to transfer to another gondola lift.

How is the ski area organized at Gazprom?

Skiing on Gazprom takes place on several slopes. Everything is done in such a way that several routes start from the upper station of the lift and go down to its lower platform. Roughly speaking, there are four such zones.

There are four blue runs around the “B” lift. There are red and black runs around the two “F” lifts in the central part of the resort. Around the short lift “H” there are two blue slopes. And around the “G” lift there are five red ones.

Therefore, it turns out that there are usually not many people on the routes - they scatter along the branching routes. But then everyone gathers at one lift. And sometimes there are queues. But even on weekends the queues are not very bad.

Blue routes at Gazprom

The most extensive area for skiing on the blue slopes is concentrated around the “B” lift and its runs B1, B2, B3, B4. They all start from the Psekhako Shelter and go down to launch pad one chair lift. B1 is the flattest. B4 is the fastest.

Since all the trails intersect in several places, skiing on them can be very varied, honing your skills on flat, steep, or narrow sections.

There is a spruce forest around the pistes here, and “advanced” beginners dare to go to the outskirts to get a little taste of off-piste skiing.

Blue route “H” in Gazprom

Red routes at Gazprom

The most best zone throughout Krasnaya Polyana, for advanced lovers of skiing on the red slopes, these are the slopes G1, G2, G3, G4 and G5. They all start at the Pikhtovoy Shelter and go down to the chair lift “G”. The G5 route is the longest and starts with a “green” slope - very convenient for acceleration, especially in the morning. The remaining routes G2, G3, G4 and G5 start from the blue slope H and then gradually branch off from it.

All five trails are completely flat, very wide, comfortable and very picturesque. Riding here is a pleasure. But skill is needed and strength is needed. The trails are quite long and require aggressive skiing in places. And towards the bottom, when fatigue increases, you need to turn on additional attention, since the last five runs on the last two flights merge into one, there are a lot of people, and everyone is tired. Many behave inappropriately or simply collapse on hillocks, snowdrifts or icy areas.

There are forest areas and virgin lands around the G routes. Many skiers and snowboarders pluck up their courage and go off the piste. I can’t recommend it, since I don’t practice it myself, but many, apparently, are satisfied.

Red route “G” in Gazprom

Black tracks at Gazprom

The red-black tracks on Gazprom are located in zone F in the central part of the resort. There are several red and black slopes here. They say that when distinguished guests come here, one or more slopes and one of the local ski lifts are blocked from mere mortals. The rest of the time, the slopes and lifts are open to everyone.

I didn’t have time to ride in this zone. A trusted source says that one of the local red runs is very, very steep, while the black one is very comfortable.

Trails for beginners at Gazprom

Complete beginners and students should first practice on green trails. There are two of them. Or three. It depends on how you count :)

A very good route starts from the Pikhtovoy Shelter at the very top of the resort. It is served by the “I” lift.

The longer and gentler slopes “C” and “E” are essentially a stretch between the Psekhako Shelter and the ski area “F”. You can also study here, but there are many transit skiers and snowboarders on these slopes.

All three green slopes are served by rope tows.

Night skiing on Gazprom

Skiing on illuminated slopes is possible at Gazprom from 18 to 23 for an additional fee. Only blue routes B1 – B3 are illuminated. The ski area looks very picturesque, especially when there is snow on the Christmas trees.

Ski passes at Gazprom

For early birds, those who want to ski as cheaply as possible, those who do not have the energy for a whole day of skiing, as well as those who leave the resort in the afternoon and would like to ski in the morning, the “Morning” ski pass is suitable. It is valid on all days except high season, from 9 am to 13.30.

For those who like to sleep, the “Midday” ski pass is suitable. You can ride on it from 12.00 to 16.00.

Full skiing from 9.00 to 16.00 is possible with the “Day” ski pass.

The “Evening” ski pass allows you to ski on illuminated blue slopes in zone “B” from 18.00 to 23.00.

What else to do at Gazprom

In the Gazprom-Laura zone there are laid ski slopes– for both classic and skating styles. To get to the slopes and rent skis, you need to go up to the Psekhako Shelter and walk down a little towards the biathlon stadium.

At the top of zone “F” there is a husky nursery. Sledding goes without saying. But you can simply visit them in their enclosure, but also for a fee.

You can also ride a snowmobile at Gazprom. For free. It is used as vehicle from the bottom station of the lift “H” to the top station of the lift “F”.

Gazprom Laura - probably the best option for piste skiing, family vacation and those people who take their first steps and falls on skis. Gazprom is the entire resort, and Laura and "Alpika"- its two parts.

The Gazprom GTC, in addition to the ski area with ski lifts, includes two expensive hotels: "Grand Hotel Polyana" And "Polyana 1389"

How to get there?

There are two cable cars leading to Laura. One old one is from the Grand Hotel Polyana and the second one is new - from Alpika. You can take the Lastochka to the final station at Rosa Khutor, and from there it’s 5 minutes to the cable car. Or take a bus directly to Gazprom, but check with the drivers, because not all buses go there.

Or you can get there by your own car. But all parking is paid.

In the hall of the lower part of the complex there are rentals, changing rooms, sports shops such as Bosco, Bogner, etc., as well as storage rooms and decent clean toilets.

There is a large information board in the hall, where there is interactive map routes and data on the operation of all slopes and lifts. The same map is available online on the Gazprom website online

Gazprom Laura slopes and lifts

The upper platform of the ski center - the Psekhako plateau - is located at an altitude of 1435 m. And all the slopes begin from the plateau itself. The plateau continues upward to Pikhtovaya Polyana at an altitude of 1660 m.

Gazprom's routes are located on the northwestern slopes of the Psekhako plateau. In order to get to the ski area, you first need to climb to the plateau on one of three gondola lifts, and there chairlifts and training ropes are already working to service the slopes.

The main lifts are gondola lifts. Two parallel ones for 8 people from the lower Gazprom station (A and A1). The ascent time to the top station is about 15 minutes.

And from the Rosa Khutor railway station you will be taken to Gazprom by the new A3 cable car, each gondola of which can accommodate up to 30 people. The most magnificent views open up from there. Therefore, you can arrange an additional excursion for yourself, going up, for example, to A3, and going down to A1.

If you chose the large cable car A3 for the ascent, it will take you to Fir Glade at an altitude of 1660 m above sea level. This is the most high point GTZ Gazprom, from where you can already go down to the slopes.

And already on the plateau, 4 and 6-seater chairlifts await you, as well as several rope ropes on the training tracks. Their speed is not high, as is the ability of many skaters to use them, so there may be queues on holidays and weekends.

Gazprom has 15 tracks of different difficulty levels, 5 of which are illuminated for evening skiing. Total length trails - about 20 km. Red and black runs F and G only work when there is a lot of snow. But if they work, then this is the best piste skiing in Krasnaya Polyana. And the remaining 13 trails are great for learning, lazy skiing, and taking photos before and after the bar.

Gazprom also has evening skating, which resort guests love for beautiful views and a romantic atmosphere. By the way, we also sometimes like to come to Gazprom in the evening, lazily drive along the highways, drink mulled wine and just have a good time. Don't forget that it is colder in the mountains in the evening, so dress warmly.

Food and relaxation

There are a variety of cafes and restaurants on Gazprom, but the general price level at the top is high. There are decent restaurants on the plateau, but quite expensive. If you want to save money, it is better to take a thermos and a snack with you.

After skiing, you have a unique opportunity to spend a lot of money. In the hall of the lower line there are boutiques of elite sports brands Bogner, Escada sport, Goldwin, etc.

And this is the Galaxy shopping center next to the lower cable car station. There is a small water park with children's slides, open pool with mountain views, ice rink, night club, cinema, bowling, billiards and shops. There is also an interesting educational kids club on a space theme with various attractions. And even a lunar rover on the control panel. Here they are website

To sum it up, it’s good to go to Gazprom to study, drink mulled wine, put a friend on skis, spend money on fashionable mountain beach clothes. And if the black and red tracks are open, then it’s a good idea to carve, scaring newcomers who entered there by mistake.
