Walk along Red Square. Red Square. Sights of Red Square

Traditionally, our story begins with the hotel where we hastened to check in upon arrival in the glorious city of Krasnodar. We chose the Top Hill Hotel through Booking, from the pictures, and from the photograph we took, you can judge that we chose a decent hotel. And those who prefer the comfort of home can rent an apartment in Krasnodar.

Early check-in did not take place, and leaving our backpack at the hotel, we went in search of a canteen or cafe. We were pleasantly surprised by the interweaving of several factors - we found a dining room very quickly, in Krasnodar you will not die of hunger, there are many eateries here for every taste, lunch was delicious, and the cost for two did not exceed 600 rubles. We had about 7 daylight hours to get acquainted with Krasnodar and we did the only thing that could be expected - pave our way walking route through the very heart of Krasnodar - Krasnaya Street, from the beginning to the very end, including another park, square and square on the route.

Krasnaya Street, of course, is not all that Krasnodar has. Krasnodar has many beautiful parks, a large Zoo and Botanical Garden, and we would love to visit all this, but we found ourselves passing through Krasnodar, and it was necessary to decide on something, so we chose the main street of Krasnodar. Whether our choice turned out to be correct or not, you can judge for yourself. Our walking route around Krasnodar can be completed by anyone; its length is just under 7 kilometers.

City Garden, Krasnodar

Our walk around Krasnodar will begin with Central Park them. Gorky, also known as the City Garden, is a park located just 2 kilometers from Railway station, from which trolleybuses No. 7 and No. 20 go to the park. The history of the park dates back to 1846, when the then governor of the Caucasus district, Prince Vorontsov, ordered the creation of green spaces in the cities of Vladikavkaz, Nalchik, Stavropol and Yekaterinodar. Krasnodar was called Ekaterinodar until 1920. During the Great Patriotic War, the park was badly damaged, almost burned out and was restored. And in the 70s, part of the territory was given over to urban development. Thus, today's park probably bears little resemblance to the park from the time of Governor Vorontsov, but even now it is pleasant to walk here, especially with children, because the park has quite a few attractions for them, including a Ferris wheel.

The park has beautiful shady alleys; at the end of one of these alleys, on an elevated platform, there is a rotunda, from where you can see beautiful view to the fountain and flowerbed. If you walk around the park a little more observantly than we do, you can still see several long-lived oaks; their age is indicated on signs installed next to the oaks.

In 1997, a monument was erected in the park to commemorate those killed in civil war in Russia in 1918. The monument was erected in memory of the victims on both sides, the White Guard hat and the Red Army Budenovka clearly hint at this.

Already outside the City Garden there is Victory Square with a monument to the liberator warrior installed on it.

Catherine Square

Just behind Victory Square, on the approach to Catherine Square, there is a monument called “Connection of Generations”.

The trip took place at the beginning of May, but it was already flowering time in Krasnodar. True, the tulips had already faded, but the chestnuts were in bloom.

The monument to Catherine II depicts the empress proud and majestic. In her hands is a scepter and an orb. On the right hand of the Empress stands Prince Potemkin, the favorite of Catherine II, the creator of the Black Sea Fleet, who led the annexation of Tavria and Crimea to the Russian Empire. To the left of the empress are the first three Cossack chieftains of the Black Sea army - Golovaty, Bely and Chepega. Behind Catherine sits a blind kobzar with a boy as a guide and a list of victories by the Russian Empire with the help of the Cossacks is established. The central part of the composition is occupied by the text of the Charter. The first monument was erected in honor of the 200th anniversary of the Kuban army, it took 11 years to build and was opened in 1907. The monument stood until 1920, when it was destroyed by the Bolsheviks. The monument was restored only in 2006.

On the square in front of the park there is a fountain, and against its background is the building of the regional legislative assembly.

To the left of the square across the road is the Cathedral of St. Alexander Nevsky.

If we look to the right of the fountain, we will see Pushkinskaya Square, with an obligatory attribute of named squares - a monument to the poet.

Hidden behind the square on Krasnoarmeyskaya Street is the house of Ataman Bursak. There is no historical exhibition inside the house, so you can only admire the house from the outside, but we didn’t dare to be in Kuban and not see a single ataman’s house.

Krasnaya Street, Krasnodar

But let's get back to the main route. The building in the photo is art museum Kovalenko, opposite him across the road there is a monument to Ilya Repin, with whose name in Krasnodar one of the author’s most famous paintings is associated - “Cossacks writing a letter to the Turkish Sultan.” The master came to Yekaterinodar in 1888 for Cossack inspiration. In Kuban, Ilya Efimovich found Cossack flavor and models in the most famous Cossacks of Kuban.

And then a real kaleidoscope of monuments and historical buildings began. If you want to repeat our route, please note that we did the entire hike on the odd side of the street, crossing to the even side only once.

Maybe the sunny weather had this effect on us, but it seemed to us that Krasnodar was blooming along with the chestnut trees, look how smooth the roads are, what fresh markings and how clean the street is. We were pleasantly surprised and pleased by all this.

Two blocks away you can see the monument “Walking Dogs”, a kind of fantasy on Mayakovsky’s fantasy about Krasnodar, which he embodied in a poem about the city from 1926. The phrase crowning the verse also crowned the head of the monument: “This is not a dog’s wilderness, but a dog’s capital.”

Having crossed Lenin Street we find ourselves at the administration Krasnodar Territory. In front of the building's façade, a Cossack flaunts himself on a bronze horse.

Further across the road there is a fountain complex: two fountains gush directly from the asphalt along the edges of the alley, and in the center there are two fountain exhibitions with bronze pictures from the life of old Krasnodar.

Further across the road is the Krasnodar Philharmonic. G.F. Ponomarenko, the bronze composer and Honored Artist of the USSR himself sits at the front entrance.

And don’t forget that every building has a restaurant, bar or cafe, and their design not only does not harm the appearance of Krasnodar, but only enhances it.

Without exaggeration, on almost every building on Krasnaya Street in the city of Krasnodar you can see some kind of historical plaque.

For the next sculptural exhibition, we had to cross to the opposite side of the street. Here are the Cossacks from the canvas of Ilya Repin, whose monument we saw at the very beginning of the route. The empty bench, of course, is left for tourists to take pictures. Go ahead and contribute to the drafting of a letter to the Turkish Sultan.

After another two blocks we come to Krasnodar's Theater Square, where a huge light and music fountain is installed.

Here Krasnaya Street becomes a pedestrian street instead of a roadway, then we will walk along a shady square. At the beginning of the pedestrian part of the street there is an obelisk in honor of the 200th anniversary of the Kuban Cossack army.

In general, a tourist is unlikely to get bored in Krasnodar, and even if so, he will be able to turn off the path and follow the signs to the attractions he likes. The signs for Krasnodar are beautiful, it’s a pity that it doesn’t indicate how many meters to this or that attraction.

Sometimes a pedestrian street is crossed by a roadway and you have to wait at a traffic light.

After walking three blocks, we saw a lost bronze man, whose gaze was clearly filled with information. This is how sculptors Vladimir and Seraphim Zolotukhin presented “Guest of Krasnodar” in 2011.

Another block away, directly opposite the Kuban State Technological University, there is a monument to students.

The mise-en-scene of the sculptural composition is known even to small children born in Russia. These are Shurik and Lidochka from Gaidai’s immortal comedy “Operation “Y” and Shurik’s other adventures.” The famous moment is captured, they purposefully walk towards knowledge, not even noticing the open hatches under their feet, the sculptures are standing on the hatch, albeit on a closed one. But they are made in human height, which gives additional scope for photographing the object.

From here you can already see the main attraction of Krasnaya Street and probably the whole of Krasnodar. This is Alexandrovskaya Arc de Triomphe, and in front of it is the “St. Catherine” fountain with the monument to the Holy Great Martyr Catherine in the center.

The Alexander Triumphal Arch was erected in the same year when Repin visited Ekaterinodar - 1888. Royal Gate were built in honor of the arrival of Emperor Alexander III and his family in the city. The arch was built in the best traditions of the ancient Moscow style, with a central span for carriages and two side spans for pedestrians. There is one “but” in this story. This is the wrong arch and it is not located there. The Royal Gate was demolished in 1928. Unfortunately, not even the drawings survived, so the new arch was designed based on information collected bit by bit: analysis of the structure of similar triumphal arches in Russia, photographs, testimonies and archaeological finds. Thus, the new Arc de Triomphe appeared in Krasnodar already in 2008.

Behind the arch another walking block awaits us, and behind it another one, but with a shady plane tree alley.

Behind the plane tree alley the last block awaits us walking route. Krasnaya Street ends with a beautiful cascading fountain. And although we arrived at the final point of the route already at dusk, we did not wait for the light show; another trip was planned for the morning and we needed to get some sleep.

A strange incident happened to us in Krasnodar. Departure was early - 5 am. We had already been scammed with breakfast, we found out when we arrived at the hotel, so we didn’t trust the administrators to call a taxi. Maybe in vain, because the taxi ordered in the evening did not arrive. Instead of a taxi at 5am, we received a phone call at 4.30am apologizing. Well, we called another taxi. And the name of this is August.

But no matter how evil circumstances tried to unsettle us, nothing could have happened, because we arrived in Krasnodar, a city where chestnut trees bloom, where there are plane tree alleys, where Krasnaya Street attracts hundreds of tourists and city residents every day. We did not expect anything else from the capital of Kuban.

We sit on the outermost branch of the cable car, which rises to the peak at a height of 2,320 meters. If it’s +15 below, then there’s already snow here and the temperature is gradually dropping:
I'm upstairs! 2,320 meters above sea level. Temperature -10. Despite this, the frost is practically not felt and is tolerated very comfortably. About the same as 0 degrees in Moscow. I walked all this time without even gloves.

There are amazingly beautiful landscapes all around. The peaks of the Caucasus ridge were covered with clouds. It's a shame, because... you could see the Fisht I once visited:
