Flying completely light is a rarity even for passengers of low-cost airlines. At a minimum, you can’t do without a document bag or laptop. Low-cost airlines engaged in international passenger transportation not only have extremely low flight rates, but also often have baggage allowances that are very different from the “average” ones: with tricks and nuances. By and large, the essence of low-cost airlines’ tariffs is diversity paid services and strict restrictions on the free carriage of items (this may apply to both luggage and hand luggage). When it comes to additional fees for baggage on an airplane, low-cost airlines sometimes show a lot of imagination.

Wizz Air

When flying with a Hungarian low-cost airline, passengers do not pay extra only for small hand luggage (dimensions - 40x30x20 cm), maximum weight 10 kg, which is placed under the seat in front.

Each piece of paid checked baggage must fit within the dimensions of 149x119x171 cm and weigh from 20 to 32 kg. The cost of one piece of luggage is from 14 euros in low season and from 19 euros in high season. Also, from November 1, 2018, it is allowed to check in luggage weighing 10 kg. A total of 3 pieces of luggage can be checked in.

EasyJet

EasyJet's (British low-cost airline) baggage rules are as follows: only one piece of hand luggage with dimensions of 56x45x25 cm (including wheels and handles) is allowed in the cabin. In this case, a handbag/case with a laptop/business briefcase is carried as one permitted piece of hand luggage; exceptions are only made for EasyJet Plus card holders or Flexi ticket holders.

Payment for checked baggage is made by the passenger when purchasing a ticket. Allowances (for a piece of paid baggage): up to 15 kg (available upon payment via the Internet) - $12.14 - $43.86. The cost of baggage up to 23 kg depends on the time and place of payment: online - $17.54 - $49.94, at the baggage drop counter - $54, at the gate - $70.

The low-cost airline also provided for the carriage of heavy luggage up to 32 kg. The surcharge for an additional 3 kg is $12 and can only be paid online. Each piece of checked baggage is subject to payment (maximum 3 pieces of baggage). Excess baggage costs $16 per kilogram.

RyanAir

The Irish low-cost airline RyanAir has the most confusing situation with the cost of baggage transportation on an airplane: the fee depends on the season (high or low), the type of baggage (separately for bicycles, skis, golf clubs and other sports equipment), the route and duration of the flight, the date of payment — when ordering on the official website and when paying at the airport, the amounts are noticeably different.

Standard checked baggage accepts bags weighing up to 10 kg (charge is 8 pounds if paid immediately with the purchase of a ticket, and from 10 pounds if baggage is added after booking tickets), as well as up to 20 kg (surcharge for weight - 25 pounds online , 40 pounds at the airport). In any case, you always need to check with RyanAir the exact cost of baggage transportation, since the tariff schedule on the website only gives a “corridor” of prices. Overweight baggage is 10 pounds per kilogram.

The carry-on baggage standards are simple: you are allowed to take one piece of luggage up to 10 kg and dimensions up to 55x20x40 cm in the cabin free of charge, as well as a handbag with dimensions up to 40x20x25 cm.

FlyDubai

Free baggage allowance in economy class: 1 piece of hand luggage up to 7 kg and dimensions up to 55x38x20 cm, as well as one handbag/men's briefcase/laptop/pack of Duty Free dimensions 25x33x20 cm. Norwegian's most affordable LowFare fare does not include free luggage. Under LowFare+ conditions, the ticket price includes 1 piece of 20 kg, and Flex includes 2 pieces of 20 kg. The size tolerances are high: 250x79x112 cm. The passenger can pay extra and check in luggage with a maximum weight of 64 kg (that’s two pieces, up to 32 kg each). The amount of additional payments depends on the season.

One free piece of hand luggage is included in all Norwegian fares. In LowFare, Lowfare+, Premium the limit is 10 kg, the norm for Flex, PremiumFlex is 15 kg.

The domestic Pobeda has very strict baggage and hand luggage standards. For tickets purchased from September 30, 2017, you can carry free only hand luggage with dimensions of 36x30x27 cm without weight restrictions.
