A Florida firm is hoping to find investors for its unique $10 billion project, a 1.4-kilometre-long floating city. The ship, named “Freedom Ship”, should become the largest ever built by mankind and has no analogues. It is designed to be a completely self-contained place to live, heal, work, study, relax and have fun.

The project involves equipping apartments, clubs, art galleries, park, circus, ponds with waterfalls, large sea aquariums and many other various places for entertainment and relaxation. The ship's superstructure, consisting of 25 decks, will provide space for libraries and schools, sports sections and fitness centers, hospitals and medical centers, shops and banks, offices and light industrial enterprises.

While remaining a cruise ship, Freedom Ship will continuously follow the same route around globe, visiting most coastal areas around the world. Equipped with a runway and airport on its upper deck for meeting and servicing helicopters and small private aircraft, as well as its own fleet of yachts, boats and submarines, it would help passengers easily transfer from shore to shore.

According to the plan, the city will have a length of 1,370 meters, a maximum width of 229 meters, a height of 107 meters and a displacement of about 2.5 million tons. It will accommodate 100,000 people, including 80,000 passengers and guests, as well as 20,000 crew and service personnel. The hotels will provide permanent accommodation for 10,000 people.

The developers believe that the whole idea of an autonomous floating city project should be based on four main components. First of all, it is a commercial area with the necessary number of jobs, capable of satisfying the needs and interests of the entire population on board the ship. Second - appropriate transport infrastructure to ensure the daily movement of goods and people. Third, a powerful all-level educational sector with highly qualified professionals. Finally, there must be a healthcare system on board the floating city with a sufficient number of medical centers and clinics. If the Freedom Ship territory receives these four "keys", the city will live and prosper, and the value of business and housing in it will increase exponentially.

Speaking about the safety of a vessel of such unprecedented dimensions, the developers assure that, thanks to a flat hull of 1,370 meters long and 229 meters wide, Freedom Ship will have unrivaled stability, ensuring a smooth ride in the roughest seas. As additional measures, it is planned to install about 600 isolated and individually controlled sections with water and air inside the building.

Having completed a multi-year design phase, the Freedom Ship team is currently trying to find investors for this extraordinary project. “This will be a very difficult project to capitalize, and the world economy has not been very interested in unproven progressive projects like ours for the last few years,” said Freedom Ship project manager Roger M. Gooch. “[But] over the last six months we have seen a lot of interest in the project, and we hope to raise US$1 billion to begin construction.” The total cost of the project is estimated at US$10 billion.

Today's journey, or rather cruise, will take place on one of the largest ships in the world - the Allure of the Seas liner.

My cousin Victor continues to share memories of his journey.

We have already visited with him - he was there quite literally in September last year, but we were there virtually, based on photographs and his previous stories. I will continue my interview begun in previous articles.

Victor, did you imagine the size of the Allure of the Seas liner?

Tanyusha, we live in the era of the Internet, and before flying to New York and then to Miami, I, of course, collected all possible information about the future cruise.

I learned that the Allure of the Seas liner is considered one of the largest in the world today cruise ships. It is 5 centimeters longer than its similar sister Oasis of the Seas, and only 2 centimeters shorter than the liner Harmony of the Seas, which was built after it quite recently, but has not yet been launched.

It rises 65 meters above the sea waves, Allure of the Seas is 360 meters long and 64 meters wide. It's like three football fields by area!

The first time I saw both ships at once - Oasis of the Seas andAllure of the Seas in their home port of registration, not far from Miami (about 45 km), in Fort Lauderdale. Our cruise began from there.

I even took my breath away with delight! Oh, what beauties! They look like twins. The liners were built at the Aker Yards shipyards. This is in Finland. The ships are almost brand new, recently built. The Allure of the Seas liner was launched at the end of November 2010.

What feelings did you experience when you first saw this colossus with your own eyes, on which you had to travel for all 8 days?

You understand, seeing a liner in a picture is one thing, and quite another in real life. He simply fascinated me. No wonder the name Allure of the Seas translates as “The Charm of the Seas.” Imagine a floating city with high-rise buildings somewhere around 22-23 floors. I counted 16 decks and later learned that they could accommodate 5,400 passengers. And this whole colossus is served by the ship’s crew of 2,384 people.

They have a lot of work, there are 2704 cabins alone, and there is also a huge number of different entertainment and recreational facilities and complexes. There is also a theater, an aquatheater, ice rink, 4 swimming pools, 10 hot tubs, Jacuzzis, carousels, Spa salons. There is even a mini-golf course, not to mention volleyball and basketball courts, climbing walls, treadmills and various exercise equipment.

What can I say, if the ship itself has three real streets: Central Park with living trees and plants - the main street.

There are shops, boutiques and many bars there. Then a 3-story street - with restaurants, cafes on the lower two floors and cabins on the third.

You only see this in science fiction films. I'm not even talking about casinos, nightclubs and jazz clubs! In a word - everywhere there is chic and shock from everything you see!

Wow! So is it possible to get lost there or get lost?

Children have freedom there - there are playrooms where they can play different professions, something like the one you talked about when you were in Dubai. Did you feel the rocking and how did you cope with it?

The ship is so big that there is absolutely no rolling! Its weight, or more correctly displacement, is 226 thousand tons, and the power of all diesel engines is 132 thousand horsepower. This is somewhere like 500 Toyota Land Cruiser 200 SUVs! Do you know how strong a storm it takes to rock it?

How was the service on the ship? Was the safety of passengers respected?

Service at the highest level. In our cabin, the steward, or whatever he is properly called, used to make funny birds out of towels every day.

He was very helpful and attentive, as was the entire crew of the airliner.

We monitored the safety of passengers very carefully, because among such huge amount tourists sometimes encountered “acrobats” who had taken a little too much at a bar, or had overheated in the sun. But it should be noted that the audience was mostly respectable.

Victor, not only those who won some competition and whose expenses were paid by the insurance company sailed on the liner. There were also just tourists. Do you know approximately how much the cruise on this ship cost them?

One day, while walking along the deck, I got into conversation with a retired couple who spoke Russian. They come from the Union, but have been living in America for a long time. They said that they paid a little more than 4 thousand dollars for the cruise.

They had a cabin overlooking the ocean. Interior cabins cost significantly less. It should be taken into account that in September and April prices are lower than at other times of the year. And on major holidays: New Year, March 8th - prices almost double.

How did they feed you, what surprised you?

The food was very tasty. They offered several dishes to choose from. There were seafood, meat dishes, and different types pasta. And there are many fruits that I have never eaten, seen or heard of before.

Have you ever had the feeling that a luxury liner could repeat the fate of the Titanic, which at one time was also the most big liner in the world?

It never even occurred to me! The liner is so reliable, because it was built by professionals top level, and there are enough lifeboats hanging on the sides. 🙂

Hmm, as history shows, the Ark was made by an amateur, and the Titanic was made by professionals . What do you say to this?

There are different things in life, but for some reason the master’s work always looks better. Whatever one may say, a shoemaker sews boots better. 🙂

From the photographs I see that you did not pass by the casino. Weren't you afraid to lose?

Well, I'm a positive person, you said it yourself. 🙂 So I thought positively, that’s why I won. True, the amount was very small, so I didn’t take any more risks. In a casino, the main thing is to stop on time. It was just interesting to see the game process itself, to participate in it, to feel the atmosphere in which the player experiences adrenaline. You don't see a casino like this very often.

Where was your floating city liner headed?

We sailed to Haiti and then to Jamaica. Then the journey lay to Mexico with a stop at the port of Cozumel.

Carnival Cruise Lines, currently the largest cruise ship operator in the world, is launching its most big ship.
