Which is better – Bled or Bohinj? Which lake to choose for relaxation? How to get there and what is worth seeing in the surrounding area. Where to stay for the night and how much does lake paradise cost in Slovenian?

The main impression after this trip was the fact that on these lakes there is absolutely NO feeling that you have already seen this somewhere. And we saw quite a lot.

Lake Bled– the calling card of Slovenia and the number one tourist attraction, a must-visit destination. Bled is a postcard photogenic Slovenia, which tourists love so much to quickly collect the cream of the main attractions of the region.

To see Bled and the surrounding area one day is enough. The shores of the lake are rolled into asphalt and decorated with multi-star hotels where Europeans spend their time, admiring the panorama of the lake from their balconies. hotel rooms and restaurant terraces.

Lake Bohinj– the most big lake Slovenia and starting point for active exploration national park Triglav, including a climb to the highest peak of the Julian Alps - Triglav. Bohini has less asphalt, more natural sandy beaches and more hiking trails in the surrounding area.

If Bled– this is from the series “see, admire and move on” then Bohinj More suitable for multi-day active or measured passive recreation.

The ideal option is to spend most of your time on Bohinja and devote one or two days to Lake Bled. The distance between these two natural attractions is only 26 km.

Where are lakes Bohinj and Bled?

Lakes Bohinj and Bled are located in the Julian Alps in the territory of the only Triglav National Park in Slovenia.

Lake Bled is closer to Ljubljana - it is only 54 km away, and even closer from the airport - less than an hour by bus/car.

Lake Bohinj is 83 km away. from Ljubljana, a bus from the capital takes about 2 hours, by car – 1.5 hours on a good road.

How to get to Lake Bohinj and Bled

The route is as follows: Ljubljana AP – Bohinjsko Ezero. Ljubljana AP means Ljubljana AVTOBUSNA POSTAJA ( bus station Ljubljana)

Ljubljana Bus Station is located just 500 meters from the city center – the three-bridge.

Alternative way to get there– include Lake Bohinj in route around Slovenia and go on a road trip.

You can rent a car in Ljubljana or Budapest - it is convenient and cheaper to fly to this city from Kyiv or travel around Europe with your own car. As always, everything depends on your goals.

The distance from Budapest to Lake Bohinj is 550 km.

The distance from Kyiv to Lake Bohinj is 1700 km.

Lake Bohinj, Where to stay

In the vicinity of Lake Bohinj there are three settlements, which you can choose for rest and overnight. They are clearly visible on the map map, which can be obtained from the information center - Stara Fuzina, Ribcev Laz and Ukanc.

Rybchev Laz (RibcevLaz)

The most party place in Bohinja is located directly on the shore of the lake. Housing here is more expensive than in the other two locations, and it is sold out quite quickly before the start of the season. If your priority is comfort, a view of the lake and proximity to all tourist attractions - choose Ribchev Laz.

Stara Fužinazina)

Most budget place for a holiday in the vicinity of Lake Bohinj. A quiet, peaceful holiday surrounded by mountains - this is about Stara Fuzina. Housing is usually private village houses converted into mini hotels. The rooms have a balcony, a small kitchen, and a room. You can find apartments for around 50 Euro per night.

Stara Fužina is chosen by those who are not afraid to walk a lot. The village is located 2 kilometers from Lake Bohinj. If you are planning a holiday with children for more than three days and are planning to spend passive time near the water, it is better to choose Ribchev Laz.

Stara Fuzina- For active travelers, if hiking and a varied daily program are a priority. We lived in Staraya Fuzhin.

Ukants (Ukanc)

“Bear Corner” of Lake Bohinj, there are houses for rent and many mini hotels. From here there are many hiking trails along the Savitsa River and to the waterfalls.

Near the village of Ukanc there is the only campsite on the lake - a fun tourist place. There is also a good cafe-bar overlooking the lake where European tourists like to spend time over a glass of beer.

What to do on Lakes Bohinj and Bled

Hiking, sightseeing, short bike tours, walks on the lake on kayaks, canoes, boats, paragliding, beach holiday– Lake Bohinj has several beaches, including remote and secluded ones, even during the peak season (July-August).

Main attractions on lakes Bohinj and Bled

Lake Bled

I'll start with more tourist lake Bled - it's the same main attraction of Slovenia And business card countries.

The main attraction of Lake Bled is old castle on the top of the mountain. Most bus tourists arrive here at the foot of the mountain and walk up to the castle. The castle itself is ordinary, there are hundreds of them in Europe. Of interest is the view of the lake, for which we spent a couple of hours.

In the middle of Lake Bled there is a small island on which there is a chapel of the same name, which gives a postcard-like view of the lake from almost any point. Inside the chapel, an ancient bell has been preserved, about which tourists are told various tales.

On the shores of Lake Bled there are two main beaches for tourists - they are located near the Park Hotel.

Opposite the hotel Vila Bled there is another unequipped beach. I had no desire to swim in the lake. Lake Bohinj is better suited for this.

Lake Bohinj

On Bohini there is no such beautiful castle as on Lake Bled, but here there is an incredibly beautiful sunrise and in summer you can see clouds a few meters from the surface of the water.

In the city Rybchev Laz, which is located on the shore of the lake, look Church of John the Baptist, founded in the 11th century.

Bridge over the Ozernitsa River, which originates in Lake Bohinj. By the way, the Ozernitsa river immediately beyond the lake merges with another river, Mostnitsa, and their union forms the Sava river, which flows all the way into the Black Sea.

Beaches on Lake Bohinj, there are quite a lot of them in Ribchev Laz and further along the perimeter. The entrance to the water is finely pebble mixed with lake sand. The depth gain is quite fast; the water temperature in August was around 23 degrees. In June the water is still quite cold.

Savica Waterfall– a small waterfall near the Savitsa river in the west of the lake, the hiking trail to it starts from the town Ukants (Ukanc), travel time is less than an hour.

Hiking trek around Lake Bohinj. An easy route for beginners or families with children, it takes about three hours. I recommend making stops on the deserted beaches on the northwestern side of Lake Bohinj.

Climbing Mount Vogel. You can climb to the top of Vogel, which offers views of Lake Bohinj, by ski lift, which is located near the campsite. Open all year round.

In winter on Lake Bohinj you can ski, but given the price/quality ratio and the proximity of Austria, this is a rather strange idea for tourists. Mostly locals ride.

Triglav National Park

Triglav National Park– it was founded back in 1924 by a Slovenian botanist named Fran Jesenko. By the will of fate, he also died in these places during a trip with students to the valley of the Triglav Lakes. Walking routes in Triglav parkthe main objective many tourists in these parts.

Top of Triglav(2864 m.) – the most high point Julian Alps, located in the national park of the same name. The route to the summit begins in the town of Stara Fuzina. But if you want to do it in one day, it’s better to get to the high-mountain village of Rudno Pole (1347 m) and start from there.

Before Rudno Pole You can get there by taxi or by car, your own or rented. You can leave your car in the parking lot while you climb to the top. It is better to start early in the morning at dawn. The hike will take a whole day.

The trails for climbing Triglav are marked, a trail map can be purchased at tourist office in the villages of Ribchev Laz or Stara Fuzhina.

Which is better Bled or Bohinj

Relax in beautiful hotel with a postcard view – this is Bled.

Actively walking through the mountains, watching the sunrise and swimming in turquoise lake water - this is Bohinj.

Holidays on Lake Bohinj are cheaper and more varied, Bled is expectedly more expensive and more crowded.

I recommend trying both options and forming your own opinion, especially since both of these amazing places are nearby.

Breathe in the fresh mountain air, slightly moist from the nearby water, and listen to the singing of the birds singing of this beauty... A fairy tale? Possible, but very real! Now open your eyes... in front of you is Lake Bohinj!

Lake Bohinj (Bohinjsko jezero) (3.18 km²) is of glacial origin, located at an altitude of 525 m above sea level and surrounded on three sides by the Julian Alps. The lake got its name from the Slovenian word “Boh”, which means God.

On a huge boulder lying near the water, a slender capricorn, Zlatorog, stands proudly. Its horns sparkle in the rays of the dazzling sun, and the gentle wind from the lake whispers about this magical creature.

Lake Bohinj is worldwide famous resort both for lovers of quiet, contemplative relaxation, and for those who engage in active species sports.

Let us say a huge thank you to Baron Sigismund Zois (1747-1810), who lived on the lake in the second half of the 18th century. Being a sociable and far-sighted person, the baron, using his authority, often invited his friends and acquaintances to visit. Hearing praise from them about these places, Zeuss decided to create a resort here, which over time gained such enormous popularity.

If you're at the resort, be sure to try the famous Bohinj cheese, which is made local residents. Dumplings are very popular, the most delicious are nut and cheese ones.

Also worth mentioning are Slovenian wines and strong liqueurs made from cherries, blueberries, pears and apples. The original liqueur "Pleterska hruska" is made by Carthusian monks. They grow a pear in a bottle and later fill it with brandy.

The resort is located on the territory of the Triglav National Park, so the main attraction of this region is the extraordinary beauty of nature. The best view of Lake Bohinj is from Mount Mirnjak.

Tourists often visit the Gorg Canyon with its waterfalls. The waterfalls look especially impressive in winter, when the water freezes.
