Above the clouds, in the Krasnaya Polyana area, an all-season ski resort"Gorki City" Before the Sochi Olympics, the resort was called “Mountain Carousel”.

During the 2014 Winter Olympics, this was the center of the mountain cluster, from where journalists told the world about the competitions of biathletes, bobsledders, skiers, freestyle skiers and ski jumpers. The mission of the resort is to organize active recreation in the Caucasus Mountains not only in winter, but also in summer, with a wide range of entertainment for all ages.

Why is the resort popular?

Now life at the resort continues to be in full swing, holidays at Gorki Gorod are varied. There is a lot of entertainment for young people, a European level of service, and modern infrastructure.

The opening of the season at the Gorki Gorod ski resort is decorated brightly and colorfully every year. Here you can meet not only Russians, but also tourists from European countries.

Infrastructure Features

The design and construction of the resort followed the British environmental standard BREEM. The authors of the project integrated the infrastructure into the surrounding landscape as harmoniously as possible and used only safe building materials.

The total area of the resort is 864 hectares. It is located on four levels. At an altitude of 540 m is the Lower City, and at an altitude of 960 m is the Upper City. Even higher, at 1,500 m and 2,200 m, there are tasty tourist attractions: cable cars, freeride ski slopes, observation decks and trekking routes. The most high point for descents is 2,375 m. This is the peak Black pyramid on Caucasus ridge Aibga.

Lower town (+540 m above sea level)

This is a party center, the main artery of the resort. Comfortable accommodation is offered by the five-star Sochi Marriott Krasnaya Polyana hotel, the four-star Gorki Plaza hotel, and the posh Gorki Gorod Apartments 540.

It is from the Lower Town at +540 m that the cable car begins.

Upper town (+960 m above sea level)

If there is bustle and constant movement below, then the “Upper City” is tranquility and solitude surrounded by harsh Caucasian landscapes. The architectural style here evokes thoughts of the aristocratic resorts of the Swiss Alps.

Having climbed the cable car, you find yourself surrounded by small two-story townhouses and chalets, restaurants and bars.

From here it's a stone's throw to the launch pads and downhill slopes. alpine skiing or snowboarding. In order not to get lost in the variety of ski slopes, you can purchase a paper map or download the Gorki Gorod route map via mobile app on a smartphone.

A network of cable cars covers the resort like a cobweb.

Having arrived here, tourists quickly get used to moving up and down on gondola and chairlifts. There are transfer platforms at three heights, 960 m, 1,460 m and 2,200 m. The lifts also take skiers to the slopes at levels of 2,050 and 2,300 meters above sea level.

A total of twelve cable cars are divided into four sectors: Central, Eastern, Circus-1, Circus-2 and Circus-3. For those who come to Gorki Gorod for the first time, we advise you to hire an experienced guide who will tell you about the features of the slopes and routes, give recommendations on the skiing regime, and tell you under what conditions it is more profitable to purchase a ski pass.

This is much more than just a ski resort. People come here to relax and have fun all year round. Moreover, skiing can be a pleasant addition to the overall program, but not the main goal.

Ski resort "Gorki Gorod"

The resort can be roughly divided into two parts. One – “Gorki Gorod” +540 – is located at an altitude of 540 meters above sea level. Its other part is “Gorki Gorod” +960 - respectively, at an altitude of 960 meters. They are connected to each other by cable and highways.

In the “Lower City” there are two hotels and the main apart-complexes, SPA complexes, sports facilities, a shopping gallery, a congress center, gourmet restaurants, children's playgrounds, indoor water park. Entertainment is mainly concentrated in this part of the resort, and therefore Gorki Gorod +540 is more suitable for fun and active recreation.

Here you will find high-quality apartments, 7 hotels with 996 rooms, and a huge SPA center (9000 square meters). This part of the resort is chosen by those who prefer comfort, peace and privacy on vacation.

Those who love skiing and mountains are drawn here, first of all, to the “Mountain Carousel”. The complex is located on the territory of a resort in the village of Esto-Sadok on the slopes of the mountains.

"Mountain Carousel" is 27 kilometers of the best ski slopes, which, according to snowboarding and skiing enthusiasts, are in no way inferior to European slopes. The altitude at which the tracks are located ranges from 960 to 1460 meters. They vary in difficulty: “red” and “black”, “green” and “blue” - they are available for both experienced and beginner skiers.

Last season, additional trails and lighted trails for evening skiing were opened in the eastern sector of the resort. And if there is a problem with snow, it can be easily solved with the help of snow cannons, which make the mountain slopes perfect at night. The use of artificial snow is a guarantee that mountain trails and skiers will not be left without snow under any circumstances. And the winter season, as expected, will last until the very end of April.

12 chairlifts and gondola lifts deliver skiers to the mountain slopes (transfer “steps” are located at an altitude of 960 m, 1459 m and 2200 m). The ascent on each section of the cable car takes up to 15 minutes on average. And to get from launch pad(height 540 meters) it will take a little more than an hour to reach the “Circus-3” zone (the farthest point).

The resort offers ski equipment rental. Instructors are always ready to give lessons and conduct master classes for beginner skiers.

Little guests are given special care here. For them, under the guidance of trained children's instructors, lessons on mastering skis and snowboarding are organized in the nursery ski school. Special slopes have been created for children's skiing, which are ascended in safe lift cabins.

An hour of useful walking accompanied by an instructor will cost 600 RUB for a one-on-one forced march.

During the warm season, adults and children over 7 years old can test their agility on the routes of the local rope amusement park. Children's and family obstacle courses are located at a height of up to 3 m, adult areas reach 10 m in height. Entertainment for the whole day without restrictions on routes costs 800 RUB for all guests of the park.

Bike

A whole separate entertainment industry with its own infrastructure and features. For regular walks around the “Upper” and “Lower” parts of the resort, as well as other areas of Esto-Sadk, we recommend renting an ordinary cruise bike. The adult version will cost 800 RUB per day, the “tandem” version costs 1400 RUB, and the children’s version costs 600 RUB.

Connoisseurs of two-wheeled off-road vehicles will find a vehicle to suit their needs at the Gornaya Karusel rental complex. Entry-level adult mountain bikes will cost 1,150 RUB per day of rental, more expensive professional bikes - up to 2,400 RUB, junior bikes - 600-800 RUB. Don’t forget protection, goggles and a helmet; a full set will cost about 1200 RUB. Now you can go to conquer the “Gorki Bike Park”, located at an altitude of almost 1000 m above sea level. Here, riders have access to more than 7 km of trails of varying difficulty - from gentle green paths to high-speed descents, with elevation changes of up to 340 m, sharp turns and convenient places to rest.

Weather in Gorki Gorod

When going skiing in Gorki Gorod, take care of lightweight and breathable equipment - winters here are snowy, but warm and humid. The ski season opens in the second half of December and lasts almost until May. There is no need to be afraid of frosts - the powerful ridges of the Caucasus Mountains do not let in cold from outside, and also do not release sea heat, creating a unique mountain-sea microclimate in Krasnaya Polyana and its environs. In May it quickly becomes warm, everything blooms and turns green before our eyes. Already in June you can go down from the mountains, tired of long walks along the hiking trails, and swim in the Black Sea. In summer, the resort is nice and pleasant, sometimes it gets hot, but not critical. You can wear light clothing almost until November. You can and should come to breathe fresh mountain air at any time of the year.

Main characteristics of cable cars and ski slopes

11 gondola and chairlifts with a capacity of 2,400 people/hour.

Ski slopes of varying difficulty levels from “green” to “black” with a total length of about 30 km from an altitude of +2340 m to +960 m.

Illuminated trails with a total length of 2 km, evening skiing from +1130 m to +960 m.

Artificial snow trails with a total length of 4.9 km from +1500 m to +960 m, 64 snow cannons.

In the winter season 2017/2018, 11 lifts operate. The main lift is three stages of the Main Cable Car with 8-seater gondolas (K-1, K-2 and K-3), which lift to a height of 2200 m. Three more chairlifts (K-4, K-5 and K -6) work in the “Circus-2” and “Circus-3” ski areas. "Circus-2" is located at an altitude of about 2000 m under the Black Pyramid mountain (2375 m is the highest point of descent at the resort). "Circus 3" is located right behind it. From the station “ Upper Town” there is also a chairlift (K-8), which takes you to a height of 1130 m.

“Gorki Gorod” has trails for all categories of riders. The third stage of the Main Cable Car, which starts from the top, is suitable for confident skiers and snowboarders; the second stage has tracks of medium difficulty and an excellent training track for beginners.

Under “Circus-2” there is a ramp to the “Eastern Sector” ski area. It is connected to the Upper City station by one gondola lift (K-10) and three chairlifts (K-11, K-12, K-13). In the upper part of the “Eastern Sector” there are difficult red tracks, in the lower part there are green and blue tracks that are convenient for training.

Black tracks

The climate of Krasnaya Polyana is ideal for lovers of powder: soft, without severe frosts, and at the same time with heavy, prolonged snowfalls. Their peak usually occurs at the end of January - beginning of February.

The resort has four freeride zones: two in the Central and two in the Eastern sector of the resort. All of them are located above 1000 meters above sea level, where the softest and fluffiest snow is. These sections are very difficult and unpredictable and can only be ridden with special training.

Evening skiing in winter

From 1130 m to 960 m.

For those who do not have the opportunity to learn to ride during the day, the resort offers the opportunity to learn by the light of the night sky. In the 2017/2018 winter season, two trails are available for evening skiing: “blue” (8E) and “green” (8A), which are equipped with an artificial snowmaking and lighting system, which makes evening skiing enjoyable and safe. During the evening skiing period, you can also use the drag ropeway (K-9) with a length of about 300 m, which is most suitable for beginners.

In the evening, we are pleased to offer our guests a full range of related services: rental of ski equipment, classes with experienced instructors, as well as a variety of food outlets where you can have fun with a friendly company.

Attention!

We do not recommend trying your hand at “black” trails and freeride areas for those who have recently started riding. You risk not being able to cope with a difficult area, which can be fraught with various injuries. There are many dangers here that we never tire of warning our guests about.

Most routes end in drops and rocks, so before you set off on them, you need to know the exits that you can use. For this purpose, novice riders need to contact professional off-piste instructors, who are offered by the resort's accredited instructor schools. Their services cost from 3,000 to 5,000 rubles per person per day, including training and equipment.

We remind you that under no circumstances should you drive in an unknown direction following someone’s trail. This mark on the descent could have been left by a resort employee who knows the area well and is much better prepared than you.
