Breakfast in the hotel. Half-day excursion to Michon.

Michon Sanctuary (Mỹ Sơn) is located in Quang Nam Province, in central Vietnam. From a cultural perspective, it represents a very interesting example of cultural exchange and integration of Hindu architecture and sculpture into traditional material culture South-East Asia. Michonne Valley surrounded by high mountains, represented perfect place for construction religious center kingdom of Champa. A well-fortified citadel was erected here, which had not only religious, but also strategic significance. This fortress was founded in the 4th century, when the strong influence of Hinduism penetrated Champa, and temples dedicated to Vishnu, Krishna and (mainly) Shiva began to be built throughout the country. Northern part The kingdom of Champa professed Hinduism en masse. However, in the 4th century, only the citadel itself was founded, and only later, in the 10th century, most of the beautiful temples were built, 25 of which have survived to this day. Unfortunately, the entire complex was badly damaged during the long wars that were fought here since the early Middle Ages. Thus, in the 11th century, many temples were dilapidated, and in the 15th century, the kingdom of Champa ceased to exist, and Hinduism left Vietnam. However, the Michonne sanctuary was so large and significant that some of its temples and towers have survived to this day, having survived, among other things, American bombings (however, American air raids caused more damage to the sanctuary than had been done to it in the previous thousand years). The eight groups of Michon towers and temples that make up the temple complex today were built between the 10th and 13th centuries. All of them are built of thin bricks with stone columns and decorated with bas-reliefs on the theme of Hindu myths. The main tower symbolizes sacred mountain at the center of the Universe. Its base is rectangular and represents the human world. It was built from stone blocks and decorated with relief. The second tier is built entirely of brick, with false doorways and rich bas-reliefs. The interiors of all the temples are simple (at least that which has come down to us) - there are no carvings or bas-reliefs inside, but there are many small niches for lamps. On a pedestal in the center of the temple complex there is a column - a lingam. She symbolized the reproductive organ of Shiva as the spiritual principle of the world. All towers are separated from the roofs by an intricately decorated border. Initially, the roofs were covered with gold or silver plates - they, of course, did not reach us. The predominant architectural style here is derived from Hindu architectural traditions.

Michonne is now one of five objects World Heritage UNESCO in Vietnam.

Return to Hoi An. Free time for relax. Overnight at the hotel.
