Historical reference

Yes, yes, despite all the luxury and splendor, just 60-70 years ago St. Tropez was a provincial fishing village. And even now, hereditary fishermen here go out to sea every morning and return to sell their catch not only in expensive hotels and restaurants, but also at the local market, the old-fashioned way, from stalls.
And every year there is a fishing festival organized by the city hall with beautiful processions in traditional costumes with torches, fires and bonfires, round dances in the port and fireworks. The holiday takes place in two stages – June 29 and July 6. I highly recommend you visit it to experience the real life of this old fishing port.
See the famous Gendarmerie
Yes, this building has still been preserved despite the fact that it has already become quite dilapidated and has not been used for its intended purpose for a long time. At one time it was proposed to be demolished several times, but thanks to the tenacity of the mayor of St. Tropez, it survived and is one of the most photographed objects in the city.

In addition to this building, tourists are reminded of the glory of this city as the gendarme seaside capital of France by an actor dressed up in the uniform of gendarmes of the 50s of the last century, who periodically gives his performances on the central streets of the city, and most often in the area of Place de Lys. He entertains the public by “regulating” traffic and encouraging billionaires in convertibles stuck in traffic jams, in the style of “What are you doing here, pass quickly” and “Come in large numbers, St. Tropez is not made of rubber!”
The pastel-colored houses overlook the picturesque embankment, along which luxury yachts are lined up. And towers over the old city ancient fortress— The Citadel of Saint-Tropez, where the Maritime Museum is now located. Respectable rich people stroll along the neat embankment, and the whole town gives the impression of being very well-groomed and neat.
Saint-Tropez is a favorite destination of celebrities from all over the world. The popularity of the city began with Paul Signac at the end of the 19th century, and in the 40s and 50s of the 20th century the city in the summer turned into an extension of the left bank: Juliette Greco, Boris Vian, Sartre and Picasso - who was not here? ! The resort became especially famous thanks to the sex symbol Brigitte Bardot after the film “And God Created Woman.”
About 5 km south of the city is the best - Pampelonne- a long spit of snow-white sand and amazingly colored sea. There are quite spacious areas of free beaches, although you will have to get to them by car and pay for parking (about 6 €).

Saint-Tropez is not very conveniently located, away from the main train and bus routes. It does not have its own railway station, the nearest train station is located in the neighboring resort, from where 7601 goes to Saint-Tropez (ticket 3 €, about 1:15 - 1:45 on the way). So you will have to make transfers to get here.
Beaches in Saint-Tropez:
Saint-Tropez is a resort town where the peak tourist season falls in July and August, during the best swimming season. The city boasts one of the best beaches - the Pamplona sand spit stretches for almost 5 km. It is divided into several separate beaches, including nudist and club beaches. Plage de Pampelonne located approximately 9 km from the city center. Closer to the city there are several small beaches made of sand and with pebbles; they are not so beautiful, but you can get to them on foot. There is also a rocky coastline with tiny coves and quiet, sheltered beaches.
Pampelonne Beach- the longest, most famous and most popular of and. This is a long spit of light sand and a beautiful, amazingly azure sea. There are restaurants on it with their own private beaches, but there are also plenty of free areas.
The braid is divided into separate beaches, for example, Tahiti Beach - located on the northern side of the spit. There is a nudist beach next to the Kon-Tiki restaurant (to the north of it).
You can also get to Pamplona beach from Saint-Tropez by bus (7705, takes 10-15 minutes from the bus station - Gare Routier, 3 flights on weekdays and 6 flights on weekends, ticket 3 €), but it will take at least a kilometer from the stop walk towards the sea. So the car is the best choice. There are parking lots near the beach (about 6€). A taxi in this direction will cost about 20 - 30 €. Or you can stay at a camping resort, such as KonTiki Village, where parking is included in the price of the house, and you can walk to the beach along palm tree alleys.

Les Bravades de Saint-Tropez
Les Bravades de Saint-Tropez is an annual celebration in mid-May dedicated to the Apostle Trophimus and the city's military achievements. This is one of the oldest festivals in Provence, which has been held for over 450 years, since the inhabitants of the city received special permission to form a military garrison to protect themselves from attacks by Berber pirates. During this 3-day celebration, groups of locals dressed in medieval military uniforms fire muskets, march to the sound of drums and hold processions with a bust of St. Trophima. Many people wear traditional Provençal costumes.

Every year at the end of September a regatta is held in the local bay. These days, many yachts, some up to 50 m long, gather in the port.
