The best beaches in Phi. Phi Phi Island - photos and reviews about the excursion to Maya Bay. Phi Phi Don beaches in the bays southeast of Tonsai

There are about a dozen beaches on the islands where you can sunbathe and swim. Beaches of Phi Phi are the best beaches in Thailand and fully correspond to the ideas of paradise island. When they say “Bounty Islands”, they mean exactly Phi Phi beaches. Fine white sand, turquoise lagoons and exotic palm trees await you.

Lately the beaches Phi Phi have become extremely popular and are crowded with tourists during the daytime.

Long Beach

Long Beach is located in the southern part of Tonsai Bay. Those tourists who want to stay longer on Phi Phi choose Long Beach. During the day it is quite fun and crowded, but at night it is quiet.

Maya Bay Beach

Maya Bay beach became simply legendary after the release of the film "". After this, crowds of tourists rushed to this island and their flow has not decreased to this day. Maya Bay Bay and Beach are a nature reserve, so there are no hotels or bungalows here. Despite this, during the daytime there is nowhere for an apple to fall. Maya Bay Beach is the best beach on Phi Phi and this title is well justified.

Lo Dalum Beach

Lo Dalum Beach is located on the opposite side of Tonsai Bay. The length of the beach is about 150 meters. Lo Dalum beach is the quietest beach of Phi Phi and its beauty will be appreciated by all lovers of a calm, peaceful holiday.

Tonsai Beach

Tonsai Beach is located on the island within walking distance from the pier where ferries from Phuket and Krabi arrive. From Tonsai Beach you can also walk to Lo Dalum Beach. Just like other Phi Phi beaches, Tonsai Beach has perfect turquoise sea and clean white sand.

Laem Thong Beach

Laem Thong Beach is located in the north of Phi Phi Island, where expensive hotels. Lovers of silence and divers who have discovered a coral reef in the sea love to relax here.

From Laem Thong Beach you can take a boat to Bamboo, Maskito, Hin Klang and Koh Lanta islands.

Lo Bagao Beach

Lo Bagao Beach is the longest beach of Phi Phi and is 800 meters long. From here you can walk to Tonsai Bay. Compared to other beaches, Lo Bagao is quite deep and there is a coral reef on the south side of the beach. This place is deservedly chosen by divers and snorkelers. Phi Phi Island Village is located on Lo Bagao Beach. Beach Resort and Spa, as well as cute bungalows.

Hin Khao Beach

Hin Khao Beach is one of the quietest beaches in the Phi Phi Islands. Parties, nightlife and there are no divers here, only palm trees, a clean beach and the sea.

Yao Beach

Lanti Beach

Lanti Beach is close to Yao Beach. There are no hotels or noise here. There are coral reefs in the sea that attract divers. And of course, palm trees, sand and clear sea, everything is as beautiful as on other Phi Phi beaches.

I always advise choosing and booking in advance. After all, the Phi Phi Islands in Thailand are extremely popular place among beach enthusiasts. And if you are vacationing on Phi Phi, which lasts in Krabi from November to March, prices will be significantly higher than in summer or autumn.

Therefore, it is very important to prepare in advance, especially if you are planning to go to Thailand to Phi Phi on your own. This is due not only to the high popularity of these islands among tourists from all over the world, but also to the fact that the owners of resorts and hotels do not bargain during the winter months, because free seats practically none at this time. And a common practice in Thailand, common among independent travelers, - I arrived and found a decent hotel on the spot; on Phi Phi it would only work during the rainy season.

To make it easier for you to choose good accommodation and book a room in advance, I suggest you read my review of the best hotels on Phi Phi, which include good hotels on party beaches and 5-star beaches in the northern part of the island, where people come for a relaxing holiday.

Phi Phi Islands in Thailand

It would not be superfluous to remind you that Phi Phi Islands is a small archipelago located in the Andaman Sea and part of the Krabi province of Thailand. It consists of several islands - Phi Phi Don, Phi Phi Le, Bamboo and Mosquito. Broken on the territory of the islands national park, designed to preserve the unique flora and fauna of Phi Phi.

Interesting fact about Phi Islands Phi: Famous conservation enthusiast Leonardo DiCaprio, who filmed The Beach on Phi Phi, is trying hard to help preserve his favorite location in its original form. Therefore, the Phi Phi Islands have status and are famous for their exceptionally clean beaches and well-preserved nature.

Visiting the Phi Phi Islands is very easy. To do this, you just need to order there from or from Phuket. Or get there by ferry yourself (see). But staying in a hotel on Phi Phi during your vacation is a truly exclusive adventure. Of course, it is worth mentioning that there are hotels only on one island, on the largest one, which is called Phi Phi Don(what's with Thai language translated as "Big Phi Phi"). The rest of the islands can also be visited as part of various excursions, including seeing the famous one, which served as a living backdrop for the filming of the famous film “The Beach” about life in Thailand.

Therefore, in this article, when I simply say Phi Phi or “Phi Phi Island,” I will mean exclusively, on which numerous hotels and resorts are built for an unforgettable vacation.

As you probably already guessed, hotels on Phi Phi a lot, despite small sizes this island, which in its shape represents several mountain peaks connected by an isthmus. It is on this isthmus that almost all hotels are concentrated. Moreover, they are sometimes located so close to each other that the passage between them is more reminiscent of narrow streets somewhere in the center of Bangkok. Because of this, some of the cheapest hotel rooms don't even have windows. And therefore, you can only spend the night in such rooms if you have air conditioning.

However, such not very pleasant living conditions in inexpensive hotels on Phi Phi are still very popular among backpackers who have found their paradise on this island. You can easily find these hotels on the website Booking.com, and I won’t consider them at all in my selection. I myself haven’t lived in such rooms for a long time and I won’t advise you either.

It is important to know:

  • In addition to inexpensive hotels for backpackers living and having fun at the main pier on Tonsai Beach and at the opposite Lo Dalam Beach, in the territory tropical island Phi Phi has many more beaches and lovely coves, next to which there are very good hotels with spacious rooms and the opportunity to feel like you are in tropical paradise, fully rested.
  • As I already said, if you are planning a winter vacation, then the best hotels in Phi Phi should be booked in advance through a guarantee best price website Booking.com, where even in high season There are often discounts and low prices, which, of course, you won’t get if you come to the island with the intention of finding a hotel on the spot.
  • It is worth keeping in mind that the mountainous landscape of Phi Phi Island may seem quite difficult to some. After all, someone may not like walking up the hill to their hotel several times a day. So this nuance should be taken into account when choosing a hotel and do not stay far from the beach.

Despite its small size, Phi Phi Island can be roughly divided into three parts:

  1. Party beaches Tonsai And Lo Dalam, located in the central part on the isthmus and at the pier, are best suited for youth recreation and Thai nightlife;
  2. Calm beach Long Beach in the south of the island, where you can find a quiet and cozy family hotel, and if necessary, quickly swim to the shops and bars of Lo Dalam;
  3. Northern Beaches Lo Ba Kao And Laem Tong, isolated and very calm, where it is best to go for those who intend to spend their vacation in silence and not go anywhere, but only relax in a luxury hotel with private beach and a swimming pool.

The main thing you should know about Tonsai beach to all vacationers that this is the very place where all the boats arriving on Phi Phi Island moor. Therefore, during the day there are always a lot of tourists who come on excursions around national park, and swimming is not very pleasant. This is the main disadvantage of this beach.

And the advantages of Tonsai are that all the infrastructure is concentrated here: shops, bars and inexpensive hotels. In addition, the western and eastern parts of the beach are quite suitable for swimming. This is where I recommend the best hotel in Tonsai:

1. Phi Phi Cliff Beach Resort 4*(rating 8.2) is located on the western part of Tonsai on Phi Phi, where the beach is better. By the way, it is cleaned of garbage every day by special workers, so it is quite suitable for relaxation. The hotel fits well into the rock and is a large multi-storey building with a wonderful swimming pool and restaurant. The rooms are incredibly spacious (72 m2) and have their own kitchen. Room price from 99 to 250 dollars for two per day.

2. Another wonderful hotel PP Princess Resort 4*(grade 7.7 ) located on Lo Dalam beach. This is a real island of luxury among a noisy crowd, distinguished by its modern spacious rooms. Everything you need for relaxation is nearby: the beach, bars and discos. The territory of the not very large Princes Resort hotel is quite quiet, but it is better to stay in rooms whose windows and balconies overlook the garden, and not the neighboring hotels. If local beach If not quite suitable for your vacation, you can always take a boat to Long Beach or other secluded coves on Phi Phi. Room price is from 95 to 150 dollars for two per day.

Phi Phi hotels on Long Beach

Next I move on to Long Beach on Phi Phi. Best hotel Here - Paradise Resort Phi Phi 3*(rating 7.8 ). It has moderate prices ( from $50 for a bungalow up to $130 for a beach villa). The rooms are cozy and clean, although small, but the villas near the beach are quite spacious. The most important thing that absolutely all vacationers at Paradise Resort like is that it is very beautiful beach with snow-white sand. It’s good that it’s very quiet here in the evenings and at night. And early in the morning, reef sharks swim to the Shark point!

You can get here by boat from Tonsai Pier, or walk along a path through the jungle, which will especially appeal to lovers of adventure and trekking.

Hotel on Long Beach - Paradise Resort Phi Phi 3* with private beach

Phi Phi hotels on Lo Ba Khao Beach

Another great beach on the island of Phi Phi in Krabi is called Lo Ba Kao(Lo Ba Kao). It houses a luxury 5-star hotel Phi Phi Island Village Beach(rating 8.5 ) with a swimming pool and private beach. Guests call it the little Maldives. And I have to believe, because here everything is really very similar to

Phi Phi is not Pattaya or even Phuket, and there are practically no noisy parties here, so you can choose any beach and not be afraid that someone or something will ruin your vacation. Almost all tourists come to this area for beach holiday and water activities, and discos and parties fade into the background here (but if you wish, you can also find good disco, And night club, but this is in the evening, not during the day).

Long Beach is considered the best beach in all respects. This is an ideal place to relax on clean beach and swimming in the clear sea (some experienced tourists This beach is called one of the best in Thailand). The infrastructure on the coast is well developed, there are hotels, restaurants, massage parlors, and bars. 20 minutes from the beach is the village of Tonsai, where there are banks, shops, bicycle rentals and a police station. Coastal waters are not polluted by boats, ferries, boats and other watercraft. Next to the beaches, right behind the hotels there is a forest. The rest of the beaches of the archipelago are either too built up, which negatively affects not only the external landscapes, but also the cleanliness, or are located in places where there is practically nothing (such beaches are called wild and they are not very popular among tourists).

There are quite a few people on the beach, but no one disturbs each other’s rest; this place cannot be called too noisy. If you need a secluded holiday, then choose eastern part a beach where there are not many vacationers. You can protect yourself from the sun with umbrellas and sun loungers, the rental of which will cost 100 baht per day.

At the end of the beach on the east side there is an observation deck from which you can see beautiful view to the sea and the island (panoramic views are hampered by dense vegetation). A popular entertainment among tourists is renting kayaks, which will cost a relatively small amount - 150 baht per hour. You can rent this craft for a few hours and explore interesting places islands. For diving enthusiasts there is a dive center Long Beach Divers.

You can get to this beach by water taxi or motor boat, which depart from Tonsai village. The fare is about 100 baht, but it is better to rent a hotel on the beach and not spend money on travel. You can also walk, the journey will take at least 20-25 minutes, depending on where you stop.

You can get real beach pleasure from relaxing on Lo Dalum Beach. This is a beautiful, quiet and secluded beach, which is located among the mountains and can delight you with clean white sand and blue water. The beach is small, its length is only 150 meters, but it is never crowded. There are several beach restaurants right on the shore, but there is virtually no nightlife. The beach is shallow, the water is always warm and, thanks to its favorable location, it is always protected from winds and other bad weather. To reach the depth, you will have to walk several hundred meters, and even further during low tides. Like other beaches, there are paid sun loungers here.

If you like deep rather than shallow seas, then you should pay attention to the longest Phi Phi - Lo Bagao (its length is 800 meters). The beach is distinguished by its depth, which comes almost immediately from the shore and diving enthusiasts prefer this place. There is a beautiful coral reef in the southern part of the beach. There is only one day on the beach, which contributes to a quiet and comfortable holiday.

Beaches of Phi Phi Don Island

Since the only inhabited island of the archipelago is Phi Phi Don, most tourists are interested in its beaches. On the island's area of only 28 square kilometers, there are as many as seven beaches. Three of them are in the south, one in the central part, one in the north and two more in the east. Let's talk about everything in order.

Ton Sai Bay

First south beach occupies a place in Tonsai Bay near the eponymous settlement. It's called Ton Sai Bay. Due to the proximity of the center of the island's infrastructure and the port, where ferries from other parts of Thailand land, this beach is the most famous and, as a result, the dirtiest. Sometimes it is problematic to enter the water due to the fact that the moored ships are located almost closely in the bay. The beach itself is spacious and white, but it’s not easy to appreciate its beauty: the pier spoils everything. The main roads of Phi Phi Don originate from Tonsai; it is convenient to live here if you are going to ride around the islands of the archipelago or visit neighboring resorts. Overall the place is quite noisy, but very colorful. Beach hotels: Mama Beach Residence 3*, P.P. Palmtree Resort 3*.

Laem Hin

The next beach - Laem Hin (Laem Hin) is separated from the previous one high cliffs. If not for them, Laem Hin would have been part of Tonsai. However, there are no boats on it and swimming is much more pleasant. There are cobblestones on the beach and some places with sand. You can rent a sun lounger and umbrella for an additional fee. In addition, from the coast there is a wonderful view of the western part of the island. This beach is home to the popular Phi Phi Andaman Legacy Hotel.

Long Beach

Another beach in the southern part of the island and Ton Sai Bay, Long Beach, differs from the previous two. It is a good distance from Tonsai's entertainment venues and is quiet at night. Despite the abundance of vacationers, the beach is quite clean. All necessary infrastructure - cafes, restaurants, water attractions, sports equipment rentals, shops - present. Including the most popular hotels here, for example Viking Nature Resort 3*, Phi Phi The Beach Resort.

Loh Dalam Bay

In the central part of the Phi Phi Don resort, opposite Tonsai, lies Loh Dalam (Dalum) Bay beach. It bears the name of the bay on the shore of which it is located. The beach is relatively small in size, but, as a rule, there are few vacationers on it. Perhaps the reason for the lack of crowds is the fact that during low tides the water drains so much that swimming becomes almost impossible. The hotels JJ Residence, PP Princess Resort and others are located nearby.

Loh Lanna Bay

The fifth beach, the northern one, is called Loh Lanna and is located in the bay of the same name (Loh Lanna Bay) not far from the observation deck. There are always few vacationers there, since there are no hotels nearby. This beach, like most of the beaches on Phi Phi Don island, is shallow, and then at low tide you will hardly be able to swim here. But you can fully enjoy the beauty of the local nature, still almost untouched by civilization. There is no transport available here, so you can only get to Lo Lanna by rented boat. Or walk along the path leading from Tonsai to observation deck. The walk is about an hour.

Laem Tong Beach

The eastern beaches, Lim Tong and Loh Bagao Bay will appeal to lovers of tranquility, discreet luxury and diving.

On the first of them, Laem Tong Beach, there are expensive and popular hotels (such as Phi Phi Natural Resort, P.P. Erawan Palms Resort, Holiday Inn Resort Phi Phi Island), as well as good restaurants and pleasant lounge bars. The beach is very well looked after, there is no garbage on it, but there are quite a lot of sun loungers and umbrellas. From this beach you can take a boat to Bamboo Island or Mosqito Island.

Loh Bagao Bay

Lo Bagao Beach, located on Loh Bagao Bay, is very spacious and quiet. Here, like on the previous beach, there are excellent opportunities for diving and snorkeling. Even at low tide you can swim and dive here. In the south of Lo Bagao there is a coral reef, which only increases its attractiveness for divers. Nearby hotels Phi Phi Ba Kao Bay Resort 3*, PP Red Tuna Hut 2* and others.

In addition to the listed beaches, the island has many secret coves and small secluded beaches that are not known to a wide range of vacationers. You can get to many of them only by water, on a rented boat. Try to find your own oasis on Phi Phi!

Beaches of Phi Phi Le Island

This island is home to the world-famous bay and Maya Bay, where the 1999 film “The Beach” was filmed. Even the most lazy tourist, who finds himself in the archipelago, will definitely visit it. The island of Phi Phi Le, formed by tall limestone cliffs that preserve traces of ancient people, is amazingly beautiful and remains uninhabited to this day. You can come here only during the season (beginning of November - end of April). The rest of the time, the waves are raging around and approaching the island by boat is very dangerous.

It was not without reason that Maya Bay was chosen as the location for filming about the paradise island. It is so flawless that it seems painted. Just imagine: transparent turquoise water, a snow-white coast surrounded by 100-meter cliffs, an abundance of tropical vegetation, the richest undersea world and bright corals! A visit to this legendary place is a must! You can sail here with a tour, or on your own by renting a boat. We recommend choosing the second option and sailing here either early in the morning or closer to sunset (after 5 pm). The rest of the time, the island is full of tourists, and dozens of boats crowd along the shore, which makes it difficult to enjoy the surrounding beauty. The distance between the islands of Phi Phi Don and Phi Phi Le is less than two kilometers.

There is nothing here other than a single tent with a modest selection of snacks and drinks and a small barbecue area. Yes, there are toilets behind the beach. But there are no restaurants, no bars, much less places where you could stay overnight on the island. Therefore, it is better to take provisions with you. And those who want to spend the night here can also bring a tent.

In search of new experiences, diving spots, secluded bays and paradise lagoons we recommend going to neighboring islands archipelago. Wonderful beaches and coral reefs await you on Bamboo Island. However, you should not limit yourself to visiting only half of the Phi Phi Islands. If possible, you should definitely visit them all: each of them is beautiful in its own way and worthy of your separate visit.

All Phi Phi beaches are sandy. In terms of infrastructure, they suit every taste. Do you want good developed infrastructure with hotels, bars and restaurants on the seashore - these are Long Beach and Loh Dalum. If you want a complete absence of infrastructure, hotels, restaurants and bars, welcome to the secluded and picturesque Loh Moo Dee, where you can swim and sunbathe without prying eyes. If you want nightlife with discos, bars and fire shows - go to Loh Dalum and Tonsai (they are located in three minutes from each other). Northeast coast of Phi Phi - perfect place for those who want a relaxing holiday, but at the same time value comfort: there are comfortable hotels on these beaches, but there are quite a few sunbathers and swimmers.

Theoretically, each of them can be reached on foot through the center of the island (it is small), but it is better not to do this, because... narrow paths pass through dense forest, where you can accidentally meet a snake. Only the path leading from Tonsai to Long Beach and Loh Moo Dee is safe (there are already three roads there - along the seashore; a few hundred meters from the sea; and through the center of the island, where the artificial reservoir is located).

The best and inexpensive way to travel between beaches is to rent a kayak and make your own sightseeing tour around the island, making short stops in places you like. You can also book at a travel agency, which costs from 400 baht. In addition, water taxis go from beach to beach, but the prices are apparently designed for millionaires - to some the trip will cost 1000-1500 baht (round trip).

Night life

Each beach has its own characteristics. For party animals, entertainment lovers and budget tourists, we recommend Tonsai and Loh Dalam. The evenings are spent there open air(you won’t find this in Pattaya or Phuket), many massage parlors, bars, shops, restaurants and inexpensive guest houses for 350-500 baht per room with a fan. There are also a lot of excursion bureaus offering transport to almost any resorts and islands, from the nearest Phi Phi Ley to the capital of Thailand - Bangkok.

A few words about the “night butterflies” of Phi Phi. You can often hear that this is a complete wilderness on the island and a lonely man will have a hard time there. Guys, don't worry! Yes, there are no traditional bars with girls and Go Go bars (like in Pattaya, Bangkok, Phuket), but there are plenty of massage parlors. Almost all masseuses can arrange for you to continue the banquet for an additional fee. Of course, the choice will not be so great (some are also well over 30), but still you will not be left alone. In addition, in regular bars there are young waitresses who can go with you to the hotel after work. Prices will be more expensive than at other resorts, but for 1000 baht you can always get to know someone better.
