What you can visit in Crimea on your own. A trip to Crimea: what to see, where to go. St. Clement Monastery

Report on a road trip around Crimea in June 2017. Trip and reviews of the main attractions of the peninsula, tips and photos.

Preface

Crimea was chosen for our first trip together. We started planning the trip several months before the start of our vacation. Since we do not like to sit still and prefer leisure After visiting the natural attractions (of which there were quite a lot in Crimea), it was decided to rent a car and move from Kerch along the coast, stopping along the way in some cities.

Airport in Simferopol and car rental

Upon arrival at Simferopol airport, we received our luggage, called for a reserved car and a Skoda Rapid drove straight to the airport to pick us up.

Having driven away from the airport, we stopped to inspect the car for defects and damage, and then signed the contract, made payment, left a deposit, plotted the route on the map and hit the road. Our first planned point is Kerch.

The distance between Simferopol and Kerch is short. Four hours on the road and we are there. Throughout Crimea there are many new streets and buildings that have not yet been included on any map. We wandered along the street we needed for a long time in search of a hotel.

The Yeni-Kale fortress is one of the main attractions of Crimea; it was built during the Ottoman Empire at the beginning of the 18th century. The entrance to the territory of the fortress is absolutely free and is not guarded by anyone.

Entrance to the Fortress territory

We walked around a lot and enjoyed the beautiful view of the Kerch Strait, we took several photos near the old walls of the Fortress.

Remains of the walls of the Fortress

Adzhimushkay quarries, Tsarsky Kurgan

Currently, there is a museum on the territory of the Adzhimushkai quarries. Entry to the museum is only possible with a tour group. Excursion time: 1 hour, ticket price: 300 rubles. The air temperature in the quarries is on average 16 degrees all year round, so visitors need to have warm clothes. If you don’t have them, don’t worry - the museum’s ticket office has windbreaker rentals.

The guide will tell you how people survived in these quarries without light, water, food, surrounded on all sides by the Germans during the Great Patriotic War.

Memorial and main entrance to the museum

Monument ancient architecture The royal mound is located next to the Adzhimushkai quarries. The excursion is held at a certain time, we did not make it. Entrance costs 100 rubles.

Mount Mithridates

This is probably the main attraction of Kerch, which we could not ignore. The height of the mountain is 90 meters above sea level. You can drive up the mountain by car or climb the Mithridates Staircase, which has 423 steps. We chose the second option, parked the car at the foot of the mountain and went to conquer the previously unexplored peak. At the very top there is an Obelisk of Glory in honor of the memory of the soldiers who died during the liberation of Kerch during the Great Patriotic War.

From above you can see Kerch. The city is at your fingertips

At the foot of Mount Mithridates is beautiful building, and this is far from a museum, but an ordinary gymnasium. It is impossible to pass by the Church of John the Baptist.

Cape Opuk

Since we love nature more, we decided to visit the Opuk Nature Reserve. From Kerch to nature reserve about 50 km way. After lunch, hoping to reach Opuka within an hour, we set out for adventure. The road is bad, so it seemed to us that it took a very long time to get there. But what we saw upon arrival was worth it.

The area of the reserve is 1593 hectares, entry to the territory is free. In some places there are awnings with benches and a table under them. You can sit quietly, drink tea, have a snack, and watch the sea and the rocks that look like ships.

During our arrival, there was not a soul on the territory of the reserve; the shore was completely deserted - a great opportunity to enjoy the sound of the waves and the singing of seagulls.

Deserted beach, just us and the sea

On the territory of the Opuksky Nature Reserve there is Koyashskoye Lake, separated from the sea by a small spit. It looks fantastic. Recommended for nature lovers.

Before returning to the hotel, we decided to go up higher to enjoy the sunset overlooking the lake and sea. The view from above is amazing!

View of Koyash Lake and the sea

Having thoroughly enjoyed the evening landscape, we set off on our way back. It had already become completely dark outside. Remembering the terrible road to Opuk, we found another path on the map and drove along it to quickly return to the hotel. Tomorrow is a new day and new adventures!

Evening in the Opuksky Nature Reserve

The second road to Opuk is no better, and maybe even worse than the first. We drove for a long time, it was wet and dark, we got there with the last of our strength and fell asleep. Having slept well, in the morning we refreshed ourselves at the Maximus cafe (mostly we had breakfast and lunch there), bought provisions with us, opened maps and moved towards Kazantip.

The distance from Kerch to the Kazantip Nature Reserve is approximately 85 km. We drove slowly, in Novootradny we arrived at Sea of Azov to take a swim.

The weather was not good, it was shining bright sun, a strong and cold wind was blowing, there were strong waves on the sea. We decided to do a swim on the way back. Closer to Kazantip, the road goes through a forest; it looks like numerous well-worn paths. We had to get lost a little, but in the end we found the way. Almost to Mysovoy the roadway resembled a washboard. We reached the sandy beach without loss.

Sandy beach near Kazantip

Then we climbed the mountain, took warm clothes with us and went for a walk. There is a warning on all stands: visiting the reserve without special permission is prohibited. We didn’t want to return to Shchelkino, so we went for a walk without any permits, kept it clean, didn’t tear down plants, didn’t swim in the numerous bays, and tried to walk strictly along the paths.

Information stand on the territory of the reserve

Bay in the Kazantip Nature Reserve

The flora of the reserve is truly unique; we have never seen such unusual plants anywhere else.

Oil production is also carried out in Kazantip. We were very surprised to see the oil rigs.

The cape is shaped like a mushroom cap; its area is about 450 hectares.

Cape washed by the Sea of Azov

To be honest, I didn’t imagine that our walk would be so long, and towards the end of the route it would become tiring. My legs trembled treacherously, my eyes looked hopefully at our car, measuring the time on the road until we returned to it. We barely got there, had a snack and decided to return to Novotradnoye to swim in the Sea of Azov. The sea was rough due to the blowing wind.

This was our last day in Kerch. We could not ignore the fortress of the same name (Fort Totleben), it is also called the “Invisible Fortress”. We already tried to do this on the first day, but we arrived late and didn’t get on the excursion.

A visit to the Fortress is possible only as part of an organized group; the excursion times at the time of our arrival were as follows: 10:00, 14:30, 15:30. During the summer season, they do more excursions so that everyone can visit this truly unique monument fortifications. The route is laid out only along part of the fortress, because much of it remains unexplored. Minimum excursion group: 10 people, ticket price: 300 rubles.

The guide tells a lot of interesting things about the construction of the fort, what was located in the buildings, how these buildings were heated, where they got water, and much more. There was so much information that we simply could not remember everything. Therefore, it is better to see and hear for yourself once and be amazed at the scale of the Fortress and the attention that was paid to the smallest details.

Camouflaged structure

During the excursion we had the opportunity to explore the Fortress not only from the outside, but also from the inside. After inspecting the premises of the Fortress, we went to the observation deck, from where beautiful view to the sea and the invisible Fortress.

Interior of the Fortress

On the way to the Kerch fortress you can clearly see the construction of the bridge to Taman. The scale is amazing. Information about the progress of construction is located on the information stand.

Having said goodbye to Kerch at the entrance to the city and its poor roads, we went to the next point - Koktebel.

We drove 115 km to Koktebel, which we met with carved gates.

Upon arrival, we went for a walk along the embankment, relax and prepare for the upcoming hike along Karadag.

Karadag Reserve

In the morning we got up early to catch the first bus to the Biostation, where it starts walking route, which are carried out only accompanied by a guide as the group grows. The length of the route is 7 km over rough terrain. It takes about 4 hours. The cost of the excursion is 600 rubles per person.

Before starting the excursion, we familiarized ourselves with the map of the reserve

The museum told about the history of the founding of the scientific station on Karadag, about the flora and fauna of the reserve. Then the whole group sets off on the trail and walks to the first stop - observation deck. You can endlessly enjoy the sea, mountains, bizarre rocks and expanses of Karadag.

Start of the trail

The expanses of Karadag

The weather on Karadag was changing rapidly - either the bright sun was shining, then clouds rolled in and it began to rain. A tornado appeared in the sea.

On one of the peaks of Karadag

Karadag is a field for imagination. Looking at all these rocks, you imagine that the pillars are idols, and some rocks look very realistic and resemble the head of a giant.

The Devil's Finger rock looks like a finger on one side, and like an elephant's head on the other side.

Devil's Finger Rock

But the main attraction of Karadag, for which many tourists flock here, is the Golden Gate. They can be seen both from the walking trail and from the boat, great amount which offers its services on the Koktebel embankment.

Golden Gate (view from the trail)

At the end of the route, part of the group independently descends along the road to Koktebel, and the other part returns to the station.

On the descent to Koktebel

We recommend taking water and something to snack with you on the trail. In the fresh air, and even with such physical activity - up and down - I wanted to eat already in the middle of the route. And besides the pea pods we bought at the market the day before, lollipops and a bottle of water, there were no more provisions in our backpack.

Upon returning to Koktebel, we ran into the first fast-food restaurant we came across, “Carnelian,” to have a hearty lunch. For the meal we chose a table on the second floor overlooking the sea. Everything is quite tasty, the price tag is reasonable.

Returning to the guest house, we took a shower, collected a few things and headed to Sudak, located 33 km from Koktebel.

Genoese fortress

Having walked the entire Sudak embankment, we went up to the Genoese Fortress, bought tickets and went inside. Ticket price for an independent visit: 300 rubles per person.

The fortress was built presumably from the 14th-15th centuries, built almost on the edge of a cliff.

From the observation deck, the Sudak embankment is clearly visible.

Next to the guest house we found an excellent fast food restaurant, Ho.Re.Ca. It has several floors, a very beautiful design, a good children's room for visitors with children, and, most importantly, a huge selection of dishes. The restaurant is very popular with tourists, and we had to wait in line for 20 minutes to have dinner. Prices are average.

After having breakfast in the morning at the same restaurant, we headed to Yalta. It was necessary to overcome about .

At the very beginning of our adventure, we made it a rule to stop at all interesting places along the way. The Golitsyn Trail is located in the New World, near Sudak, and we decided that this is the place where you definitely need to visit!

In Novy Svet there was a problem with parking a car - the parking lot closest to the embankment was completely occupied, but while we were talking with the parking attendant, one car freed up a space. The parking leaves much to be desired; there is still room at the bottom, but the upper area is located on a fairly narrow road, where cars are parked in a herringbone pattern and there is minimal space left for cars to pass. In addition, many tourists walk along this road.

Golitsyn trail

Approaching the New World embankment, we saw numerous barkers offering a boat ride to Tsarskoye Beach for 200 rubles. We decided to save time and agreed to this proposal. From the boat, Chaliapin's Grotto seems small.

Having landed on the royal beach, we had to climb the mountain, where numerous paths lead. The day turned out to be quite hot, and already closer to the top I felt an unbearable desire to return to the beach and plunge into the water. But what stunning views open from the tops...

Views from the Golitsyn trail

Numerous Azov dolphins swam in the endless sea of extraordinary color. There were quite a lot of people, it turned out to be difficult to walk along the path. In some places you have to climb high stairs, but we took short breaks in the shade to catch our breath.

We noticed a film set on one of the rocks. Crimea is truly a scenery for a film, created by nature itself. We never thought that the Black Sea could be so beautiful.

Beautiful scenery is why you should walk along the Golitsyn trail

Upon returning to the embankment, we quenched our thirst with cold kvass and continued our journey. The heat wore us out a little, our eyes began to close, we had to make a forced stop and drink a cup of coffee. Parked in picturesque place, we took out the blanket we had brought with us, settled down on a hill and had a picnic.

Picnic in Crimean style

In the Alushta area we stopped on the road, along the edges of which slender cypress trees lined up like sentries.

Highway R-29, somewhere near Alushta

We couldn’t drive past another natural attraction - the Jur-Jur waterfall. By car you need to get to the village of Generalskoye, and there you will find numerous UAZ vehicles, equipped specifically for trips to the mountains. The cost of a round trip per car is 1,500 rubles.

You can also walk, but we didn’t want to walk anymore, especially since it was a long way, and it was starting to get dark. The road to the waterfall is already a small adventure; I haven’t been so shaken for a long time (it’s advisable to go on a trip on an empty stomach), the adrenaline is overflowing, especially on the descents.

The waterfall itself is very beautiful, clean and powerful. In the evening there were not so many people, you could easily take a photo.

Photo at the Jur-Jur waterfall

We went up to the health bath and the love bath. All this is located between the mountains in the thickets of the forest, where the intoxicatingly clean mountain air makes your head spin. In a good sense of the word.

After taking a bath along the path, we decided to climb further up the forest, from where wonderful views of the endless rocky peaks open up. We sat on the stones, recharged ourselves with energy and gained strength to continue the journey.

The descent in the UAZ was very scary, it seemed like we were about to roll over and fall down. But everything worked out, and we returned to Generalskoye safe and sound, got into the car, drove out onto the highway and enjoyed the smooth road surface. We reached Yalta in the dark.

Massandra plant

The excursion was taken without tasting, entrance is strictly included excursion group. The guide begins his story at the main building of the plant, talks about the history of the plant, what types of wines are produced. During the excursion, we walked through the wine cellars, for the first time we saw how wine is stored and how it travels between workshops along the wine pipeline. At the end of the excursion we purchased a bottle of wine for dinner.

Ticket price (without tasting) is 300 rubles.

Livadia Palace is the most beautiful residence of the last Tsar of the Russian Empire. Little remained in the palace after all the wars, coups and collapse of the USSR. But what has been preserved is carefully protected by museum workers. Price entrance ticket— 350 rubles both with and without a tour.

The tour ends at the palace church, after which you can independently stroll along the numerous paths of the palace.

Territory Vorontsov Palace- this is the place where you can take a leisurely stroll, breathe in the fresh air, enjoy the architecture of the palace, walk to the pond and feed the swans. We didn’t see any tours of the halls of this palace; perhaps we arrived late or they simply weren’t available.

The cable car ride to the top of Mount Ai-Petri costs 700 rubles one way per person. It is worth climbing to see the outskirts of Yalta from a height of 1234 meters above sea level. Particularly brave people can walk along a rope ladder stretched between the tops of two rocks. It was quite windy and cold at the top, we quickly froze and went down.

bird home

Upon returning to Yalta we stopped at bird home. The road to this castle was not immediately found. In Crimea there are generally some problems with signs. The time for visiting has already ended, but for a nominal fee you can get closer to the castle, although it is clearly visible from afar.

Having read reviews about the uniqueness of this place and that it is better to visit it at sunset, we reached the village of Luchistoye (50 km from Yalta) no later in the evening, left the car at the equestrian base, changed into sneakers and headed into the mountains. Free admission.

To enjoy the wonderful views, you need to climb to the very top and contemplate the sunset over the valley from above. The path is very narrow and your feet slip on small stones, so it is important to take good shoes. One of the trails is quite steep and difficult to climb. We didn’t see any signs where to go, so we moved where it was easier to get through.

The sun was sinking lower and lower, and we realized that we would not complete the ascent before sunset, and we didn’t really want to go down such paths in the dark. We admired what we could see along the way. One of the pillars seemed simply huge to us.

Noticing a small tourist group in the distance, we joined them. The location for watching the sunset was perfect.

According to the tour guide, the most important thing everyone should do at sunset in the Valley of Ghosts is kiss. It sounded like this: “Mom kisses dad, and dad kisses mom, but boys kiss good girls and vice versa.” Many took the advice and this is how they met the sunset of the passing day.

Balaclava

Leaving the car in the yard guest house, we went for a walk around Balaklava. To be honest, we were tired - we walked around one side of Balaklava Bay, but didn’t have enough strength to go to the other.

We took a car and went to explore the other side. The road along the bay is very narrow, besides cars there are a lot of tourists walking, so, having reached the monument to the submarine heroes at a snail's pace, we decided to walk with our feet.

A path up the mountain awaited us, but along a smoother road. Balaklava Bay looks simply amazing from the highest point. There are snakes on the trail; we even almost stepped on two people getting married. You need to be careful, as all attention is focused on the surrounding landscapes, and no one is looking at their feet.

View of Balaklava Bay

The next day, having exchanged the car for a boat, we went on a boat trip to Cape Aya. There is a lot organized from the Balaklava embankment sea trips with swimming in the open sea. You can also reach small beautiful beaches. We didn’t swim in Balaklava itself; the beaches are tiny, and the sea leaves much to be desired.

Excursions are carried out as scheduled, we had time to go up to the Chembalo fortress and see the wonderful Balaklava bay again.

Trip to Sevastopol

After a day of walking around Balaklava, we wanted to see Sevastopol. Quite by chance, on the way to the embankment, we stopped at the Count's pier.

Count's pier

The monument to sunken ships at sunset and the Obelisk to the hero city of Sevastopol make an indelible impression.

View of the obelisk of the hero city of Sevastopol

On the embankment in the evening there is a special atmosphere, music can be heard from everywhere, musicians perform, a repertoire for every taste.

I would like to note the architecture of Simferopol. I especially liked the building of the Lunacharsky Theater. On the way back from the embankment to the place where the car was parked, I got the feeling that the city was somehow empty, everywhere was dark and deserted.

Lunacharsky Theater

We came to Cape Fiolent to watch the sunset:

It was not the first time that we found the way to the top point of the cape; following the signs we arrived at a dead end for a house construction site. Kind people showed the right direction. And here we are at the cliff enjoying the space and freedom, breathing in the wind and thinking only that our journey is coming to an end, and tomorrow we are returning home.

Beautiful Cape Fiolent

Finish line

In the morning we had a delicious breakfast at guest house"Sofia Balaklava", collected their few things, loaded into the car and headed towards the airport. Along the way, we noted that not all places in Crimea had been explored yet. We decided to definitely return to enjoy the unprecedented beauty and see again what we really liked.

There was still time before the plane free time, and we decided to stop by the market in Simferopol to buy some gifts for our family and friends. The roads during the day in Simferopol are full of traffic jams, but we managed to do everything, although the fear that we would not make it to the plane tormented us all the way.

We dropped off the car near the airport, returned our deposit minus the cost of the wheel (torn at Cape Opuk) and took us to the entrance to the terminal.

This is how our 10-day adventure through the unusually beautiful places of Crimea ended.

Travel budget

The total budget for the trip is about 100,000 rubles.

  • Car rental: 30,000 rub. (20,000 - rent, 10,000 - deposit, of which 7,000 were returned after returning the car, minus the cost of the wheel).

And thanks to the construction of a grandiose bridge across the Kerch Strait, getting to its wonders and attractions has become easier. If you are planning your first trip to the “peninsula back home”, or have already been there on vacation, but want to see something new and interesting, we will advise the most beautiful places in Crimea. The list was compiled taking into account reviews from tourists on review sites, as well as recommendations from travel agencies.

Wuchang-Su Waterfall

The name of the largest waterfall on the peninsula translated from Turkic means “flying water.” There is a beautiful legend that a beautiful girl was turned into a waterfall and, becoming a rapid stream, helped her loved ones get rid of the drought. In the summer months, the waterfall is not particularly impressive, but during the period when the snow melts on the Yalta Yaila, it fully lives up to its name.

bird home

This is one of the most famous tourist attractions, featured on many postcards and photographs dedicated to Crimea. Castle made in neo gothic style, erected on the steep cliff of Aurora. Near it there is a wishing tree and observation decks, and art exhibitions are held inside the castle.

Valley of Ghosts

This mysterious place full of oddly shaped rocks. Some of them look like people and animals, others look like objects or fantastic creatures. At dawn and sunset, thanks to the play of light and shadows, the figures seem to come to life and change their outlines, color and even shape.

Ai-Petri

Admire beautiful views in Crimea you can from the picturesque Mount Ai-Petri. You can climb to the top of the mountain using the Miskhor - Ai-Petri cable car, and we recommend going back down along the beautiful Taraktash trail, leading straight to Yalta.

Livadia Palace

The former summer residence of Nicholas II served as a meeting place for Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill. The Yalta Conference of 1945 took place in this palace, where issues of the post-war order were resolved. Currently, the palace hosts thematic exhibitions, and there are two permanent exhibitions: one dedicated to the Romanov family, the other to the Crimean Conference of Leaders of the Countries of the Anti-Hitler Coalition.

Karadag Reserve

In that natural monument Tourists are only allowed in if accompanied by reserve staff, and they must travel along special eco-trails. Many representatives of the flora and fauna of the Karadag Reserve are listed in the Red Book. During the four-hour excursion you can admire unusual rock formations (“King and Queen”, “Ivan the Robber”, “Golden Gate”, etc.), numerous bays and the enchanting beauty of the Black Sea.

Marble Cave

One of the most beautiful sights of Crimea is divided into several halls, each of which has its own unique appearance. Beautiful crystals, sinter columns, openwork baths and pools, and other wonders of this treasury of the mountain king make Marble Cave a must-see when visiting Crimea. Just dress warmly, because in the underground chambers the temperature does not rise above 8 degrees Celsius.

Massandra Palace

The construction of this palace took a long time - from 1881 to 1902. However, it was not destined to become at least a temporary home for the top officials of the Russian Empire; the last Russian autocrat preferred the Livadia Palace. Currently, the Massandra Palace attracts tourists with its beautiful park and park area.

Lake Panagia

Near the village of Zelenogorye, in the gorge there is the purest deep-water lake Panagia, the waters of which have an emerald hue. They reflect Mountain peaks, surrounding the lake in a ring. In the vicinity of Panagia are the Arpatian cascades of waterfalls.

Swan Islands

In the reserve with beautiful name In summer, up to 5 thousand swans and up to 250 species of migratory birds live. Seagulls, ducks, cormorants, gray and white herons and other feathered beauties inhabit six islands stretching along Black Sea coast Karkinitsky Bay.

Jur-Jur waterfall

In size, Jur-Jur cannot be compared with, but it is the deepest and one of the most beautiful waterfalls Crimea. It throws out up to 270 liters of water per second. It is better to admire this miracle of nature from a distance; it not only makes noise, but also “throws” stones that fly down along with the water.

Chersonese Tauride

One of the main historical monuments in Crimea was an important Greek settlement in the 5th century BC. It was with him that the Greek expansion to the east and west of Crimea began. Now you can visit Tauride Chersonese either independently or in the company of a guide who will tell you interestingly about Greek customs, traditions and legends.

Cape Chameleon

This cape got its name due to the fact that it changes color depending on the time of day and weather. It is made up of shales that reflect light differently.

This landscape park located near the village of Steregushchee - one of the. There are no equipped beaches on the spit, but there are “wild” ones with pleasant yellow sand. An ideal place for walks and relaxation.

Vorontsov Palace

Crimea is home to some of the most beautiful palaces in Russia. And one of them is Vorontsovsky, named after his customer - Count M.S. Vorontsova. The structure is unique in its mixture of Indo-Moorish and English Tudor architectural styles. The palace is surrounded by a large and well-kept park, and in the building itself there is a museum with pompous interiors.

Yalta embankment

Chekhov and Yesenin once walked along this one and a half kilometer embankment. Abundantly “seasoned” with greenery, the Yalta embankment combines modern chic with elegant antiquity. On its territory there are bars, restaurants, hotels, a children's amusement park, as well as the Roffe baths, built at the end of the 19th century.

Balaklava Bay

This is the main attraction of the small resort town Balaclava. The bay is hardly noticeable from the sea, a winding fairway protects it from strong waves, and steep cliffs protect it from the wind. The best way to appreciate the landscapes of Balaklava Bay is by boat, yawl, or by going up to the Chembalo fortress - it offers a breathtaking view of the sea.

Lavender fields

Although lavender is considered a calling card French Provence, in Crimea there are no less beautiful lavender fields. They can be seen, in particular, on both sides of the Simferopol-Sudak road, on Cape Tarkhankut and near Alushta, near the village of Lavender.

Cape Fiolent

The main feature of this piece of land, formed by volcanic rocks, is the bizarrely shaped rocks and the clear sea with emerald green water. To the east of the cape is Jasper Beach, which is reached by a staircase with 800 steps.

Baydar Valley

This huge basin, located in the southeast of the peninsula, is surrounded on all sides by green mountains. Many rivers flow into the valley and form small waterfalls. And in the center of the basin is the Chernorechenskoye reservoir - the largest in Crimea. IN Baydar Valley Many rare plants grow, and for its pleasant mild climate it received the unofficial title “Crimean Switzerland”.

Crimean palaces

Livadia Palace

Muslim style, the Middle Ages and the English Renaissance are intertwined in the ensemble of this architectural monument. The palace dates back to the beginning of the 19th century, but to this day attracts the attention of both tourists from Russia and guests from other countries of the world.

Yusupov Palace
