Cancun

It is best known to Russian tourists, and many go on vacation here. Cancun has enough to offer Big city with high-rise buildings and a coastline located in walking distance from them. Therefore, it is difficult to find special comfort, colorfulness and escape from the life of the metropolis here. But there are familiar ones here shopping centers, bars, restaurants galore, clubs, etc. A typical picture for Cancun - girls in golden swimsuits on white sand against the backdrop of high-rise buildings, next to them are guys drinking Corona Extra, club music coming from the speakers of five-star hotels. In general, everything is modern, expensive and in luxury style. If you are accustomed to comfort and just need a vacation in a familiar environment, then you can safely consider Cancun.
In October we visited Dolphin Beach (Playa Delfines) on the advice of Russian emigrants. Indeed, here we saw the most beautiful color of the sea - azure. But at this time of year there is a lot of algae there. We went for a swim to another beach (Playa Gaviota Azul), which is protected by reefs, so there is no big waves, and also there is no various natural (and not only) garbage.

Playa del Carmen

The city of Playa del Carmen is significantly different from Cancun; it is much more provincial. It was in October that Playa del Carmen was much more tourists than in Cancun. There is already a cozy atmosphere here, craft bars that try to surprise everyone with their own twist. In the evenings, almost everywhere, local bands play live music, performing famous rock and pop covers.
The beaches here are not as clean as in Cancun, but they are also of good quality: white sand and warm sea in abundance.
Along coastline There is a long central pedestrian street, where people wander around day and night in search of souvenirs and a bar where they make the most delicious Mojito.
If you want to visit a cozy, provincial place, then this is the place for you.

Beaches of Tulum

In general, the beaches of Tulum, as it turns out, are among the 10 best beaches in the world. And I agree with this rating. There are no strong waves on the coastline, which is several tens of kilometers long, so you can safely go with your children. Absence of any garbage, the snow-white, I would even say, dazzling white sand.
We visited several beaches in the area. The beach next to the Mayan ruins is a very small spot. But, because The ruins attract many tourists, but it is difficult to find a place there to even just put a towel. Therefore, after visiting the ruins, I advise you to take a swim from the hot sun, take a couple of photos, and go to some other beach to sunbathe. There are beaches within a 15-20 minute walk, where there are not so many people and there is enough space for everyone.

Also in Tulum there is Akumal Beach, it is famous for its underwater world. You don’t look for a variety of colorful, colorful fish there, but you can swim with turtles there. You can also see stingrays (so be careful). You really have to try a little to find them. I would like to dwell on this point in a little more detail.
It's better to arrive early, around 7-8 am, because... from 10 there are already a lot of tourists, and the water becomes very muddy. Don't expect to see huge turtles that you can ride on. They are small, approximately 50 cm in diameter. You can swim for free, or you can hire a guide or take a tour. Naturally, you will need a swimming mask, but we bought it for 50 rubles at a local supermarket. If you take a tour, you will be given a mask and snorkel, fins and a guide who will look for these turtles with you. If you swim on your own, then they will swim up to you many times, telling you that you cannot be here without a vest, that you must hire a guide, etc. But this is not so, according to Mexican law, all beaches are state property, therefore, they are public, you can be there and swim everywhere for free. Therefore, you can safely ignore it. By the way, we looked for turtles for quite a long time, about an hour. But then we watched other groups, and based on their signals, we realized where these little pinnipeds decided to rest today.

Go! for Travel"

Mexico attracts vacationers with its interesting culture, history, architecture and cuisine, but most tourists come to this country for its magnificent beaches. Most beaches on the Caribbean coast are protected by reefs (Cancun and Riviera Maya). The Pacific coast of Mexico is known for its good surfing spots. One way or another, they are all attractive, and relaxing on them is the dream of many. Another Mexican feature is the opportunity to relax on the beach and visit ancient ruins. Remnants of indigenous Mexican history and stunning beaches are best combined in Tulum. ancient city Maya on the Caribbean coast. In accordance with Mexican law, all beaches are publicly owned and hotels do not have the right to prohibit outsiders from relaxing by the sea. But the reality is that private hotels are trying in every possible way to get rid of local residents and outside visitors.

Beaches of Riviera Maya

Maroma Beach. The Mexican coast of the Yucatan Peninsula, from Cancun to the borders with Belize, has many white sandy beaches with turquoise water color. But among them, Maroma stands out the most. Playa Maroma often appears on lists of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Tens of hectares of jungle on the coast Caribbean Sea set it apart from the “hustle and bustle” of Cancun and the Riviera Maya. Soft white sand, crystal turquoise waters, warm water and calm waves, no pebbles, shells or seaweed washed ashore. You can walk for kilometers in both directions and hardly see anyone.

This pristine beach in Mexico is home to Secrets Maroma Resorts. 12 swimming pools, 7 restaurants and 8 bars of the 412-room upscale resort will satisfy all culinary desires and guarantee wonderful holiday. A beach with turquoise water, almost complete absence of waves and a rich underwater world. Akumal means "place of turtles" in the May language. The beautiful beach is most attractive for the opportunity to swim with green turtles. Rent masks and snorkels and swim on this beautiful beach along with the turtles. Read Akumal's article for more details.

Beaches of Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve(Sian Kaan Biosphere beaches). The beaches of the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve are an extension of the beaches of Tulum and stretch further south to Punta Allen. Some of them are dangerous to swim due to high waves, others are protected by coastal reefs. Beaches stretch on one side, vast mangroves on the other. Get here from Tulum along the Boca Paila road, entering through a checkpoint 6 km south of the famous Mayan ruins. The road ends at Punta Allen. There is practically nothing here, so bring everything you need for the day (water, food, sunglasses) and be surrounded by silence, beautiful nature and magnificent white beaches.

Boca Paila Beach(Playa Boca Paila). Blessed with the romance of a tropical idyll, Boca Paila Beach (known locally as "Playa El Encanto") is reminiscent of the Riviera Maya 20 years ago, when tourism first took off. The beach stretches for kilometers in both directions; vacationers can walk for hours along the shore without ever seeing anyone like them. The beach is located within the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve south of Tulum (about 2.5 hours by car from Cancun).

Puerto Morelos(Puerto Morelos). This fishing village is located 30 km south of Cancun and 30 km north of Playa del Carmen. Puerto Morelos boasts one of the best stretches of pristine beaches in the Riviera Maya. Small boats along the coast periodically take divers to nearby reefs to discover the beauty of the coral formations and the richness of the underwater world.

The beach in Puerto Morelos is wide, sandy and not crowded with many vacationers. This is an ideal place for swimming in clear and calm waters. Reefs are located at a distance of about 500 meters from the coast, protecting the coast from storms and large waves. No other reef along the coast of Quintana Roo is so close to the shore. In 1998, the reefs in the Puerto Morelos area were declared part of the National marine park. Restrictions on fishing and boating have made this coastline the most pristine coral site in Mesoamerica barrier reef. Read the article for more details

This is a continuation of the article.

  • Beaches 1-9 km differ significantly from each other. More or less good sea starts from 4.5 km. It gets really good at 8 km.
  • A distinctive feature of these beaches is that there are no waves on them, the water is calm, with virtually no current, so this part of the coast is “covered” by the Island of Women. They are suitable for a quiet family vacation and holidays with children. There are many places where it is very shallow. For those who want a drive, it will most likely be boring here.
  • The best, in my opinion, beach in Cancun for 1-9 km is Caracol.
  • In order to eat, you will most likely have to go out onto the road, since shops and cafe-restaurants are located along Kukulkan Boulevard. Finding something like this on the beach is a big problem. Throughout all the kilometers there are only a few places (for example, a patch between the beaches of Pes Valador and Tortuga) where you can have lunch or just have a snack. Due to the almost complete absence of shops, you will definitely have to take water with you, otherwise you risk “dying of thirst.”
  • Don't forget about sunscreen! Walking along the beaches, it may seem that it is not very hot, since a pleasant breeze from the sea constantly blows. This feeling is deceptive: the sun is very persistent, plus it reflects well from white sand- you can burn out and not notice.
  • Masks and tubes are unlikely to be useful. There is nothing to see in the sea. Of the living creatures, only a couple of small schools of fish were seen and that was all.
  • In some places it is problematic to get to the beaches from Kukulkan Boulevard - almost all hotels do not allow entry (they ask to show the bracelets and, seeing that they are not there, they offer to go to the exit). If you slip through, it will most likely be by accident and due to an oversight of the staff. You can get to the beaches along public paths, which are not as common as we would like.
  • If you see flags on the beach, know:
    • green - you can safely swim
    • yellow - you can swim, but with caution
    • red - swimming is prohibited

Bored without waves? Then welcome to the “fun” beaches of Cancun with waves!

In general, if you are in Cancun or going there, I recommend walking along the beaches yourself, seeing them and comparing them. Even if you don’t like some of them, this will be your personal opinion and impression, which may differ from ours.

Enjoy your swims on the beaches of Cancun, dear readers!

How to get to Cancun beaches from the city

City buses run from the city of Cancun to the Hotelera zone; you will recognize them by the large inscription HOTELES or PLAYAS. Buses also have an even larger letter R, followed by a route number, for example R-2 (we rode this bus). The fare costs 9.50 pesos, regardless of the distance you plan to travel. The driver stops only upon request or at stops where there are many people standing. So if you want to go out in a certain meta, press the button with the bell, which you will find on the handrail.

There are also gazelle minibuses with the same letters R. They follow the bus routes.

If you don't love public transport, you can always use a taxi, whatever, but Cancun has plenty of this goodness. Just be prepared that they will quote you an initially inflated tourist price for travel.

How to navigate between beaches

You can move between the beaches on foot, if you want to take a walk, or on the same buses, code-named R. Just go out onto the road, as soon as you see the bus approaching, wave to it, it stops and takes you wherever you want (within the route, of course ). Even for covering a distance of 100 meters you will have to pay the same 9.50 pesos
