Is it worth going to Mallorca? Majorca. Two happy weeks on the island. Sights, tips, recommendations. Mallorca for water sports enthusiasts

Mallorca is called a holiday island and they even say that the weather in paradise is exactly the same as on this Spanish island. Why tourists go there and what the 2016 summer season has in store, read in our material, prepared jointly with destination specialists from the Voyagetour company.

Mallorca has the status of the most aristocratic resort in Spain and it is here that members of the royal family come every year to spend their holidays. This season, Belarusian tourists can also spend their holidays in an atmosphere of aristocratic relaxation. Travel companies have made excellent offers with departures from Minsk, Vilnius, Kaunas and Warsaw, which gives tourists a wide choice of tours in terms of cost and personal preferences.

WHAT SHOULD YOU KNOW BEFORE YOUR TRIP?

Mallorca is the largest Spanish island in the Balearic archipelago. It has a mild and warm climate, infrastructure at the highest level, amazingly beautiful mountain ranges, lots of greenery and a friendly atmosphere no matter which resort you stay at. Mallorca is one of the most hospitable islands on the planet. Mallorca has many tourists from the UK, Germany and other European countries.

Mallorca is famous for its high level of service and abundance of historical attractions. The towns are mostly ancient, having their own interesting story and very cozy. Almost every city in Mallorca is a resort.

The northwestern coast features rocky cliffs and narrow coves. South West Coast consists of white sand beaches and cozy bays. Accordingly, the beaches in the west are mostly rocky, while in the east they are sandy.

In Mallorca, as in other EU countries, the euro is used.

The climate of Mallorca is typically Mediterranean - the sea regulates the temperature, thanks to which it remains quite comfortable, unlike mainland Spain, located at the same latitude. In summer the temperature rises to +30 °C, the probability of rain is extremely low. The water warms up to +24°C. The climate on the island is mild and suitable for everyone, so there is no need to worry about acclimatization at all. They say that in paradise the weather is the same as in Mallorca. Many of Mallorca's beaches regularly receive the Blue Flag for the cleanliness of their sand and water quality.

All planes fly into Palma de Mallorca, main city islands. A convenient transfer to the resorts of the island is organized for tourists. The nearest popular resort is about 20 minutes' drive away. And you can get to other resorts quite quickly.

RESORTS OF MALLORCA

Mallorca is a place where simply relying on reviews from tourists who have visited the island is not enough. Choosing a resort without knowing the specifics is quite difficult. Here you have to rely solely on personal preferences. Whether you are traveling with small children, want privacy, or, conversely, want to be in a noisy, cheerful company. It is better to discuss such nuances in advance with a travel agent who has visited the island - this will greatly facilitate your task. Katerina Usataya, Mallorca specialist at VOYAZHTOUR, spoke about the features of the island’s resorts:

Arenal

Most affordable resort for youth recreation - Arenal. Municipal beaches, sandy. You can sunbathe on your towel or use the beach equipment - a set of 2 sun loungers and an umbrella (about 12 euros per season). Arenal is a 20-minute (15 km) drive from Mallorca International Airport. There are not many hotels in Arenal, but they are distinguished by affordable prices and an acceptable level of service. Along coastline There are 3* and 4* hotels, while 2* hotels are located further from the beach. In the summer months, the resort is mainly visited by young people aged 18-30, so in July and August, couples with children are better off choosing calmer and quieter places for vacations and holidays.

Magaluf

Magaluf is the most popular resort on the island. Tourists from the UK and Scandinavian countries prefer to stay here. Magaluf parties last from night until morning. Cheerful groups spend their holidays here non-stop. Palma Nova and Magaluf are the main beaches of the resort. On the way to the beach you can have a snack or lunch at local cafes. Entertainment includes the Aqualand and Western Park water parks, clubs in the Punta Ballena area with performances by the world's best DJs and foam parties, summer concerts, and the opportunity to engage in any water sports. At the same time, there are also excellent themed hotels for families with children.

Illetas

Illetas is an exclusive resort. Located just 9 km southwest of the capital of the island, its nature and infrastructure attracts the attention of many tourists who prefer a calm and peaceful holiday to noisy and sleepless resorts. Unlike most resorts in Mallorca, the coastal areas of Illetas feature a rocky coastline with stunningly colored sea water. Small sandy coves form on the breaks in the coastline, which allows some hotels to have “private” beaches, that is, difficult to access for outside tourists. The water in the sea is amazingly clean, you can get to the beach by stairs from the main road of the resort.

Palmanova

Palmanova - created for family holidays. There will be plenty to do with children at the Marineland marine life park, in theme park Katmandu and mini golf courses.

THINGS TO DO IN MALLORCA

What to do on the largest of the Balearic Islands, what to see and where to look for adventure? To get to know the island better, we suggest you familiarize yourself with the list of 7 must-do things to do in Mallorca:

7 things to do in Mallorca to experience the atmosphere:

1. Go to the market. For example, to the Olivar market in Palma de Mallorca. This is an indoor market for gourmets and true connoisseurs. Beautiful vegetables and fruits, buckets with different types of olives, rich fish and cheese rows. They can even cook you delicious chops with honey and mustard on the barbecue right on the spot. There are also several tapas bars here.

2. Get real pleasure from traditional Majoran pastries - signature ensaymada. It is described something like this: “A real song, packaged in an octagonal box. Tender, melting in the mouth, always with a crispy crust and a lot of different fillings... And, of course, sprinkled with powdered sugar.” Without many words!

3. Celebrate something. There is always something celebrating on the island and whenever you go there, you will always find fun. On June 23, at the Sant Joan festival, people celebrate the beginning of summer and light bonfires. During the festival of Sant Pere, the patron saint of fishermen, people have fun in the fishing villages. In August, Pollensa celebrates the Mare de Deu dels Angels.

4. Visit the Dragon Caves. They are located in the eastern part of Mallorca, and their length is about 2 kilometers. The name of the cave came from ancient legend, according to which treasures buried somewhere deep underground were guarded by a terrible monster. There is no monster in the cave today, but the real treasures - stalactites and stalagmites - amaze everyone who enters with their beauty.

5. Listen to music while walking along the underground lake. Musicians playing live sail on a boat on the largest underground lake in Europe... This can only be seen in Mallorca, in one of the caves, of which there are more than 200 on the island. The lake, measuring 177 by 40 meters, is located in the Drach caves, the length of which is 1700 meters.

6. Admire the play of light at the Cathedral of Santa Maria. Construction of the cathedral began in 1230. Several centuries later, it was restored by Antonio Gaudi himself, and today the Cathedral of Santa Maria is the most recognizable building in Palma de Mallorca. Be sure to visit it on a sunny day when the sun's rays penetrate through the stained glass windows. The feeling is indescribable.

7. Eat ice cream at the Giovanni L cafe. Even if you try a new type of ice cream every day for a month, you still won’t try everything. We warn you, there are always many people who want to enjoy the legendary ice cream.

Mallorca (or Mallorca) is one of the spanish islands, which is located in the Mediterranean Sea. This is the largest island in Spain, and one of the most popular resorts. Of course, it is difficult to call Mallorca one of the most beloved resorts among our compatriots. Well, Russians don’t see much - Mallorca is terribly beautiful, there is excellent tourism infrastructure, cool beaches, entertainment, attractions - it’s no wonder that Europeans love this island so much.

Of course, you can go to Mallorca at any time, but mostly a friend who misses the gentle sea and sun wants beach holiday, well, it gets really warm on the island somewhere from the end of May. However, in May it will still be cool to swim, so if you want the most complete holiday, fly to Mallorca in July. We’ll talk about how to relax on the island in the second month of summer below.

The island is dominated by a Mediterranean climate, so it experiences dry and hot summers. But it’s hot in a good way: the average daily temperature in July on the island is +28-30°C (however, the thermometer can jump to +33-34°C, but this is much less common). At the same time, temperatures gradually rise towards the end of July, to eventually burst into the August heat.

The nights in Mallorca in July are also warm - on average +22-23°C, so you can walk at night in the same clothes you wear during the day (except that at the beginning of the month it may be a little cooler, just below 20 degrees). Temperatures in July are generally stable, the changes are not shocking. And July in Mallorca is very sunny - in fact, it is the sunniest month of the year. There are almost no cloudy days, with the exception of very rare 1-2 rainy days, which may not even exist. Summer on the island is very dry, but no clouds will upset you. Another pleasant fact is that in July the winds subside, and those who blow from the sea bring only pleasant coolness and help to survive the hottest days.

The Mediterranean Sea from +-23-24°C in the first week by the end of July warms up to +26-27°C - this is a very comfortable temperature for swimming, and it is pleasant to swim in any period of July. In general, the weather in Mallorca in July is super cool: sunshine, warm sea, warm nights, clear sky. Take a suitcase of summer things with you to Mallorca in July - cold snaps are very unlikely, during which you will want to wrap yourself in a sweater.

What to do in Mallorca in July

There are many opportunities for entertainment and excursions on the island, and the weather is not so hot that you “suffer, but go see this temple.” By the way, the history of Mallorca goes back hundreds of years, and the island definitely has something to brag about. The island was once in the power of Carthage, was a pirate base, it was besieged by ancient German vandals, Muslims from North Africa, and one day almost all the islanders died from the plague. In short, there is a lot to tell about the island, and there is a lot to see - with a guide or on your own.

First of all, it is worth visiting the capital of the island, Palma(or Palma de Mallorca). Beautiful city is located in a 20-kilometer bay of the same name. By the way, this bay is considered one of the most beautiful in the whole world! The residents of Palma are lucky!
The city is very old, it was founded, for a moment, in 123 BC. e.! Well, Palma is a pleasant city with narrow medieval streets and squares, ancient houses with typical Spanish patios, as well as modern buildings. It’s especially atmospheric in the Old Town, and one of the most important attractions of the capital is Bellver Castle, “hanging” over the bay on a steep cliff, luxurious gothic castle, built in the 13th-14th centuries as the summer residence of a Spanish king.

If you have time, go to Valdemos, a small village where barely more than two thousand people live. But there are many more tourists here. The fact is that in this village there is one of the most important attractions of the island, Valldemos Monastery 14th century, which gave part of the former cells to museum grounds.

In the city Soller interesting too. The city itself is not on the coast, but the sea is only half an hour’s walk away, and you can get to the coast by the famous Tranvía de Sóller tram, which also connects some of Sóller’s attractions.

The main beauties of Soller - Constitution Square(Plaça Constitució) with cafes and a fountain, Picasso and Joan Miró Museum, Church of Saint Bartomeu(Saint Bartholomew) old Town Hall and an unusual building Banco de Soller(Banco de Sóller), which dates from the mid-13th century. However, strolling through the streets of Soller, where there are no attractions, is also cool. Particularly interesting Gran Via street with buildings in the Art Nouveau style fashionable at the beginning of the 20th century - these luxurious houses were once built by wealthy emigrants who arrived in Mallorca.

In addition to architectural attractions, Mallorca also has natural beauty to offer. For example, you can trek in mountains of the Serra de Tramuntana), stretching from the southwest to the northeast of the island. This mountain range is even included in the UNESCO list, it’s so beautiful there! A hike to Serra will appeal even to those who are not particularly fond of mountains and similar outings.
Of course: such gorgeous “photographable” views of the coast, olive groves on the slopes, peaceful sheep grazing in the meadows. The mountains, by the way, are not that high, and the serpentines are not completely crazy, and driving along them is not scary.

Visit and Dragon Cave (Cuevas del Drach), which is located near the town of Porto Cristo. Everything is clear with the dragon: there is a legend that this rock with a cave was once guarded by a very formidable dragon - that’s what they decided to call it. And the cave is interesting for its underground passages, as well as its huge crystal clean lake with warm water (+20°C).

Mysterious Hams caves are located near the Dragon Caves. Interestingly, the name of this cave translates as “fish hook” - because of the cave stalactites, which are shaped like fish hooks.
Rocky formations on the coast have created amazing sea caves, also near Porto Cristo. To view this creation of nature, you will have to travel by boat - it is impossible to get close to the caves by land.

If you have children traveling with you, then take them to the Dolphinarium "Marineland" to the Costa den Blanes or to water parks, which, however, are also loved by adults. For example, water park "Western Park Magaluf"(15 minutes from Palma) or Hidropark Alcudia(in Alcudia).

Adults won’t be bored on the island either, because they work in full force in July clubs, bars and pubs. And the Spaniards know exactly how to make both tourists and locals happy! They mostly hang out in areas like Magaluf, Arenal or Paseo Maritimo in Palma.

Holidays and festivals in Mallorca in July

Holidays and festivals are very interesting and allow you to feel the Spanish culture! In the first days of the month, acute symptoms are noted Mare de Deu de la Victoria,

Catholic holiday. First of all, it is celebrated in Alcudia. As the sun sets on the first days of the festival, lavish tables begin to be set in houses and restaurants, drinking a lot and dancing. For two days (which is how long the festival usually lasts), local musical groups perform for guests. And finally, on July 2, a mass is celebrated in the La Victoria chapel, and a traditional sacrifice is brought to the churches of the city - bouquets of daisies. After the religious ceremony, the fun and dancing begin again.

On July 16 you will be able to witness La Verge del Carme, the day of Mallorcan sailors, which is celebrated with parades of ships and boats, as well as evening fireworks over the sea. This day is celebrated in Palma, Port Andratx, Cala Bona, Portocristo and other port cities.

July 20 - Saint Margalida's Day. In Felantice you can see a folk dance festival, in Santa Maria de Cami there are magnificent processions (by the way, Margalida is the patroness of this town, so this holiday is celebrated here most brightly). On July 28, Valldemossa hosts a huge procession in honor of Blessed Catalina Thomas, which starts in the evening at seven o'clock.

Thus, July in Mallorca means a beach holiday, walks, excursions, parties, and holidays - which means your vacation will be top notch!

Mallorca is one of largest islands, part of Spain, located on the Balearic archipelago in the middle Mediterranean Sea. I believe that this is truly a heavenly place where you can enjoy picturesque landscapes, clean beaches and forget about all everyday problems.

This small island, whose area is only 3.5 thousand square kilometers, is slightly different from the usual resorts in Spain, and all because throughout its long history it managed to be at the disposal of the Phoenicians, Romans, and of course, the Arabs. Therefore, the culture here is really very rich!

Getting to know this wonderful island I started with its capital - Palma de Mallorca. It is here that all its main attractions are concentrated.

As soon as I left the airport, I was struck by the long palm alley that led arriving tourists to the parking lot. The palm trees there are truly majestic, the size of three-story houses! You look and can’t believe your eyes that just 4 hours ago you were in a gray rainy city, and now you find yourself among such beauty!

And when you drive directly into the capital itself, your eyes begin to widen. You look to the left - a turquoise-colored sea, look to the right - a majestic cathedral, and right in front of you - high mountains.

Here you want to photograph absolutely everything, so I advise you to free up memory on your phone, tablet and camera in advance, because you will constantly have the desire to capture this or that place!

How to get there

There are two types of transport to get to Mallorca: air and water.

Of course, the most frequently used and comfortable option is air. The capital of the island, Palma, has international Airport, from where airliners of various types depart every half hour and where they land just as often. European airlines.

As for water communication, Palma has the main port of the island, where ships from different parts of Spain arrive daily, which is very convenient for tourists who spend most of their time on the mainland, for example, in Barcelona or Valencia, and on weekends go on excursions to Palma.

You can get around the island itself by bus, car or train.

By plane

The main and only airport of the island, which bears the name Son San Joan , located 8 kilometers from the capital Palma de Mallorca. This is where both outsiders and domestic flights. The airport has very good communications with various European countries, including with Russia.

Flights from Moscow

There are direct flights to Mallorca from Moscow (Domodedovo Airport): S7 airlines, the average cost of a round trip ticket is 20 thousand rubles. In addition, you can fly to the island on flights with one or more transfers, operated by the Spanish airline Iberia also from Domodedovo Airport for the same price (about 20 thousand rubles). It is worth noting that there are several other European airlines that fly to Palma with transfers, for example:

  • Finnair;
  • Lufthansa;
  • Swiss;
  • Czech Airlines;

But then the flight time will be more than 20 hours, which is completely inconvenient and not worth the money. Therefore, I advise you to choose a direct flight!

In this case, the travel time will be only 4.5 hours, so I recommend not saving on tickets and not spending the whole day on endless transfers.

You can compare prices yourself, for example.

How to get from the airport to the city

You can get from the airport to the city center either by bus or by taxi.

Of course, a more economical option is a bus. Routes No. 1 and No. 17 constantly run here, which will take you to Palma for only 3 €. If you need to resort town Arenal, then bus number 21 goes directly to its center from here.

But a taxi will cost much more - the average cost of a trip will be 20 €, and if you are traveling in a group, you can order a minivan for 40 €.

In addition, you can rent a car directly at the airport, there is a wide range of car rental companies (Hertz, Avis, Europcar). The average rental price starts from 50 € per day. Details below.

By ferry

So, the second way to get to Mallorca is to sail from another part of Spain by ferry or high-speed catamaran. The latter depart daily to the island directly from:

  • Barcelona (4.5 hours drive),
  • Valencia (4-6 hours drive),
  • Menorca (2.5 hours drive),
  • Ibiza (3 hours drive)

The average ticket price is 40 € and depends on the characteristics of the ship.

How to get from the port to the center

The port of Palma de Mallorca is located 6 kilometers from the city center; if desired and in good physical condition, you can walk from there to the center along the promenade, enjoying beautiful views and a light breeze, or take bus number 1 for only 1.5 €.

The bus stop is located next to the port. Of course, you can catch a taxi and go to the Cathedral (the trip will cost 10 €).

When is the season? When is the best time to go

According to local residents, the island of Mallorca reveals itself to tourists in all its glory at the end of spring and continues to delight the eye until mid-autumn. This is the best period for relaxation!

As for winter, the Spaniards believe that in given time years their life becomes very calm, quiet and even a little boring. Although the winter weather here is favorable (about +14 °C), there is absolutely nothing to do. Because you can’t even lie on the beach, swim, or enjoy seasonal fruits and vegetables. Therefore, go to Mallorca in low season(that is, from November to March) is not worth it. The only tourists on the island at this time are employees of companies who organize business meetings, trainings or business trips here.

Mallorca in summer

Like all resorts, the island of Mallorca is especially beautiful in the summer. It is at this time of year that the air and water temperatures reach their maximum and all the most beautiful flowers and shrubs of the island bloom everywhere. By the way, it was in Mallorca that I noticed a very large number of those same flowering evergreens, and this cannot but please the eye!

Of course, summer (especially July) is also vacation time, so there are a lot of tourists here, just like everywhere else. But since Mallorca is, after all, an island and holidays on it are not cheap, wealthy Europeans and most often those over 35 or young families with children like to come here most of all. It is believed that holidays in Mallorca are quite calm and the pace of life is measured, so all young people who prefer nightclubs evening walks by boat, goes to neighboring island, Ibiza. But at the same time, it cannot be said that Mallorca is a remote place suitable only for retirees: here you can also have fun and actively relax. But the most important treasure of the island is its incredibly beautiful nature! You will not see such landscapes as here anywhere!

By the way, the climate here is very pleasant; in summer the air temperature reaches about +30 °C, and in winter - +15 °C. But unfortunately, there is nothing to do in Mallorca in winter. Local residents say they experience a lull at this time of year. In fact, the island is inhabited by about a million people, so at a time when all the tourists go home, the island becomes empty and almost deserted. Residents calmly go about their daily affairs, and nothing special happens here. Therefore, I don’t recommend going here in winter, although if you are tired of the city bustle and noise, then here you can definitely be alone with yourself and nature. It’s not for nothing that the residence of the Spanish royal family is located here! Celebrities such as Claudia Schiffer, Michael Douglas and Gwyneth Paltrow also bought villas in Mallorca. Since Mallorca has catered to the discerning tastes of A-list stars, then you will certainly like it too!

Mallorca in autumn

The beginning of autumn in Mallorca is considered the velvet season, so until the end of September you can enjoy the bright sun and warm sea. But already from October the sun sets at 7 pm, and it becomes noticeably colder, the temperature reaches +7–8 °C.

Even from late October to early November, rain and thunderstorms become more frequent on the island. Therefore, at this time it is no longer worth vacationing in Mallorca.

Mallorca in spring

In spring, the high season gradually begins in Mallorca; already in March – April the air temperature reaches +20–23 °C, the warm, pleasant sun shines, and flowers begin to bloom. At this time you can’t swim yet, but you can already sunbathe.

The good thing about the island in spring is that there are still few tourists here, and you can have a quiet, relaxing holiday.

Mallorca in winter

Winter in Mallorca is a time of complete silence and serenity. The sun shines here quite often, and snow falls only in the mountains; it rarely reaches the lowlands. December is considered the month of rain, but January and February are characterized by pleasant, comfortable weather. The average daytime temperature reaches +14–15 °C.

The only caveat is that it is very boring here in winter, and this is the favorite time of year for retirees to relax.

Conditional areas. Descriptions and features

The island of Mallorca is divided into 7 main areas:

  • metropolitan,
  • central,
  • northwestern,
  • southern,
  • southwestern,
  • southeastern,
  • northeastern.

Capital area

Located closer to the southwestern part of the island, this is where the main attractions and the residence of the royal family are located. If you want to be in the center of all the events, then this is the place to live.

The city itself is quite noisy, there are crowds of tourists walking around, it is very hot and stuffy during the day, so I recommend renting an apartment or staying in a hotel, which is located a few kilometers from Palma. I lived near the beach of Cala Major - this is a typical Spanish resort suburb, there are many hotels, cafes, shops, a large public beach and several museums. In general, an ideal place for those who like a relaxed, but not too boring holiday. Housing here will be more expensive than in other areas, since this is the capital, that is, the most important area of the island.

Southwestern region

This area of the island is the most densely populated. Here are located such large cities as Illetas, Portals, Santa Ponsa, Paguera. It is best to come here with family and children, because in these places you can relax and enjoy the tranquility.

It is also here that the large Bendinat golf club is located, so the area is considered very prestigious and not at all cheap.

Northwestern region

Along the shore, in the shade of trees, there are townhouses and villas, which can be rented for the summer if desired, and here you can also admire beautiful mountain landscapes. Why isn't this a heavenly place?

Northern region

This area is famous for its unforgettable views and cleanest beaches. This is where the most high point islands - Cape Formentor, from which a magnificent view of the sea opens. Housing in this area will be quite expensive due to extraordinary beauty nature and thanks to the proximity to “star” villas.

Large cities in the area: Alcudia and Polença. There is a port near Poyença, from where you can sail around the island on a yacht.

Northeast of the island

It is distinguished by its beauty and serenity. Once you settle here, you will forget about all the problems and bustle of the city.

In this area you will find a large number of traditional farmhouses and farms, and you will also have the opportunity to chat with friendly locals, who may invite you to try oranges grown in their garden or their homemade jamon (cured pork).

Southeast

It is essentially very similar to the northeast and is also a common occupation agriculture and sailing, so if you want to get to know local life better and taste fresh fruits, vegetables and seafood, as well as immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the island, get acquainted with its cultural and historical component, then this is a great option!

Southern part of the island

But it is famous for its long beaches, sports bars and noisy discos. The largest resort town is Arenal. This is where the most large water park islands, an amazing aquarium with sharks and stingrays, and many bars. The place is considered quite budget-friendly for recreation, so all young people live in this part, and accordingly, the prices for accommodation here are not bad compared to costs in other areas.

If you like a bright, cheerful holiday, then this is the place for you. And just to the south is the longest beach of the island - Es Trenc. It is distinguished by snow-white sand and a light blue sea.

central part

These are picturesque estates, almond orchards, pastures and olive fields. Another great place for a relaxing holiday, while being only half an hour from Palma.

Here is located Big City Inca, which is famous throughout the world for the production of high-quality leather goods, as well as the city of Sineu, which is definitely worth a visit to look at the magnificent churches and the former Royal Palace, and also go to the largest fair on the island, which is held there on Wednesdays.

I usually look for hotels on Booking, but you can check if there is a more attractive price somewhere.

Offers for renting private apartments can be viewed here.

What are the prices for holidays?

As I mentioned earlier, holidays on the island of Mallorca can be classified as luxury, and therefore here you will find hundreds of villas and apartments for rent, the price of which starts from 1.5 thousand € for 10 days.

In principle, if you compare this price with hotels, the difference will be insignificant. For the same 10 days in a 3-star hotel in any area of the island, you will pay an average of about 1.7 thousand €, and in a 5-star hotel - about 4 €.

If you consider that in your apartments you will cook on your own, and in hotels you will use the all-inclusive service, then your costs will be approximately the same.

Therefore, it is up to you to decide what is more convenient, but personally, I lived in a good 3-star hotel, where in addition to all-inclusive meals there is free Gym, bar, swimming pool and, of course, themed parties!

TOP 5 best hotels on the island

I would like to present to you my TOP 5 best hotels on the island:

  • Globales Simar 4* (from 1.7 thousand € for 10 days for two).
  • Barcelo Ponent Playa 3* (from 1.3 thousand € for 10 days for two).
  • Globales Palmanova 4* (from 2.1 thousand € for 10 days for two).
  • Insotel Cala Mandia Resort & Spa 4* (from 4.2 thousand € for 10 days for two).
  • Blue Bay Hotel 3* (from 1.2 thousand € for 10 days for two).

Find out the prices for ready-made tours(with flights, transfers, accommodation and insurance) to hotels of different categories can be found in the Travelask section.

Expenses

So, if you decide to stay at a hotel, then there will be no problems with food, and if you decide to rent an apartment or villa, then you have the option of shopping in supermarkets, of which there are quite a few on the island. One of the most popular, which often catches my eye, is Eroski. This is a common supermarket chain in Spain where you can buy everything from bread to hand cream at average Spanish prices.

If you buy groceries for a week, the average bill will be about 60 €. You can also visit restaurants and cafes, which will be quite expensive, given that the average bill will be 50–60 €.

You can go on excursions either independently or with a guide. Mallorca is a small island; you can get from Palma to Alcudia in just an hour and a half, that is, traveling the length and breadth of the island in one day will not be difficult.

You can rent a car for 50–70 € per day and go explore the island yourself, or you can travel by bus for only 6 €. Group excursion with a guide on your own rented bus will cost about 100 €. A trip around the island by taxi will cost about 80–90 €.

Main attractions. What to see

Mallorca is famous for its variety of attractions and incredibly beautiful places that you must visit.

If you like to know all the smallest details and Interesting Facts about certain attractions, you can hire a guide or book a full excursion. And if you like to walk independently beautiful places and discover something new for yourself, then you can inspect everything yourself.

It is worth choosing a day for the excursion in advance; it is advisable to select one of the weekdays (except Friday), since on weekends the locals begin to have a siesta and rest, and there are too many people on the streets who will prevent you from taking a good look at everything. Bad weather is extremely rare in Mallorca, so you shouldn’t be afraid of rain and cold weather, but you can still check the forecast before your walk, just in case.

In fact, no matter what beach you come to here, it will definitely be quiet, cozy and clean. Even close to Palma resort areas, where thousands of tourists vacation, they are very worthy! But the most best places to soak up the sun and enjoy swimming in clear sea water - secluded coves, of which there are many in Mallorca.

As I wrote above, I was vacationing in the Cala Mayor area, a few kilometers from the capital, and one day, quite by accident, I wandered into a cove where there was small beach, and the sea there was crystal clear! There weren’t very many vacationers there, mostly locals and tourists like me, who most likely also found this place by chance paradise.

Between seasons, it is easiest to explore the real and genuine culture of the island, feel its spirit and enjoy the local flavor.

Along the coast of Mallorca are the same snow-white beaches, which are shown in Bounty commercials. This “sugar” sand has become famous throughout the world. Every year, from mid-May, millions of tourists flock to these shores. The swimming season lasts until the last days of October.

Start velvet season falls in mid-September. At this time, moderately warm and sunny weather prevails, the sea is still gentle. The main wave of vacationers is waning, the beaches are becoming free.

Car rental in Mallorca - where and how?

Mallorca is a small island. Its length is 110 km from north to south and only 75 km from west to east. The best way to explore local attractions is by car. A rented car gives you freedom of movement and not being tied to public transport schedules. If the car is hired by the company, then there will be significant savings on transport costs.

Mallorca lives on tourism. Everything is done here to ensure that guests of the island are satisfied with their stay. This also applies to car rental companies. They are friendly and try to please any wishes of their clients. Some of them (small car rentals) even accept Russian plastic IDs when renting out cars. True, the same cannot be said about local police officers. If a difficult traffic situation arises that requires the involvement of law enforcement officers, it can be difficult to communicate with them.

The general requirements for clients when renting a car are the same as in other EU countries: age over 21, driving experience of at least 12 months, availability of an international driving license and a credit card. You can rent a car directly at the airport, or in advance, which is often cheaper from international online brokers such as Rentalcars, Avis, Sixt, etc.

The Internet makes it possible to spend in advance, resulting in the car that is needed, rather than choosing from what is left. For online booking, a partial prepayment is most often sufficient, although some companies prefer full prepayment, offering some nice bonuses. Rental conditions vary depending on the season and need to be monitored regularly.

Rent price

Before signing the contract, you must carefully read all the rental conditions, paying special attention to insurance, mileage limits and surcharges for ancillary services. All rental companies provide a base price in the contract and use it as a trump card. But it’s worth taking into account that the price will definitely increase due to insurance, payment for child seats (which you can’t live without), a navigator, and so on. All this must be taken into account so as not to be upset when looking at the final check.

The final rental cost depends on the class of the car. Economy class will cost approximately 35–40 euros per day rental, and a class C car is 25–35 euros more expensive. Booking a car at long term(more than 7 days) significantly reduces the daily cost.

Parking

Free parking spots on the island are located near the main attractions, large supermarkets and large hotels. They are marked with white lines or not marked at all. Cars are squeezed in there as best they can, so you have to be careful and take care of your bumpers.

If the area is marked with yellow lines, then you cannot park there. A fine will follow, or even immediate evacuation of the car. Troubles are guaranteed.

Paid parking spaces are marked with blue markings. Parking tickets are purchased from a machine and left under glass.

Today we’ll talk about the largest island of the Bolearic archipelago - about Mallorca. By the way, the name of the island is translated as “the largest”. This is a universal favorite not only of the Spaniards themselves. The British and French, the Swiss and the Germans love to relax here; in general, the whole of Europe goes to Mallorca to bask in the sun (besides, compared to their resorts, it is relatively cheap here). And in last years it was also chosen by citizens of Ukraine.

Usually, young and middle-aged people come to the sunny island, and here in October the temperature stays at +26C. This is the contingent The first ones prefer to stay in hostels and cheap hotels. You won't see them on the street until lunchtime. But in the evenings and at night, all the drinking establishments of Mallorca are “occupied” by wasters of youth and carelessness. But there are no conflicts or aggression. All festivities are peaceful, noisy and fun. The older generation prefers to stay in luxury hotels, and even on the “All inclusive” food system. They sit near the bars by the pools and sip cocktails, slowly, leisurely, take a dip in the pool and again have a glass... Probably, this is how the atmosphere and magical climate of the island affects them

So why are they coming here? What is it that is so “anointed” there? I'll share with you some facts about Mallorca, and you draw your own conclusions, is it good to relax on the “biggest”?!

Paradise climate

Many people believe that here in Mallorca the climate is simply heavenly. It is mild, there is no summer heat, usually around +27C, and the sea is somewhere within the same range. Even in winter it is relatively warm here and you can walk around in shorts and a T-shirt +15C. The most favorable months for vacation are August-September. It’s not stormy, but all the living creatures “get” to the shore. That's why divers love this season. And the nature of the island is simply mesmerizing - 40 nature reserves!, groves of olives and wild almonds, green valleys and... not a single river.

Rest for kings

Palma de Mallorca... Did you know that Marivent Castle is a favorite vacation spot for blue-blooded “tourists”? This is where the royal family comes. And a sailing regatta, in which the princes themselves take part, is also timed to coincide with their vacation. It's called the King's Cup. Old castle Almudaina usually hosts official royal receptions. And in these places, world celebrities, such as the Douglas family, Michael Schumacher, catwalk star Claudia Schiffer and others, built their villas. On the streets of Palma de Mallorca you can always meet world cinema stars, sports stars and businessmen.

Cheap-expensive

Do you think Mallorca is a resort only for the rich? But no. This is an island where people of all incomes vacation. There are both VIP-class hotels and cheap ones, such as, for example, guesthouses, where overnight accommodation costs 15 euros per day. Here they are called Hostal. Sometimes you can “catch” a cheap flight, such as low-cost flights from Kaunas for 50 euros. And travel on public transport also does not exceed 1.5 euros per trip.

A mixture of cultures and styles

Mallorca can surprise even the most demanding architecture lover. After all, more than one civilization has left its mark on this land. The Greeks, the Romans, the Arabs, and the Byzantines visited here. The culture united many styles and eras, which were reflected in the narrow streets and houses, Spanish courtyards and Arab aqueducts, even Gaudi himself “worked” a little here - everything was built from Gothic to Art Nouveau interspersed with art nouveau. Architectural monuments are the Bellver Castle and the Cathedral of the 13th century, built on the site of an old Arab mosque. They are located right next to the bay. And Gaudi developed a unique lighting system for the Cathedral.

George Sand and others

The great writer George Sand also fell in love with Mallorca. She lived here with her husband Frederic Chopin and their children for almost a year. She even dedicated her story “Winter in Mallorca” to the island. The family lived in the mountains, in a monastery in Cartuya de Valldemossa. Today, everyone who comes to this area can visit the writer’s personal museum, wander through the magnificent garden and rooms of the monastery, see the death mask of the great composer and the piano on which musical masterpieces were composed, and get acquainted with the original manuscripts of George Sand herself. Later, such writers as Gertrude Stein and Robert Graves vacationed in these places.

Tourist Wars

Yes, yes, there really is a war on the island - a war between tourists from Great Britain and Germany. They still can’t divide their holiday destinations in Mallorca. There is simply a tourism boom from these two countries - Germany actually wanted to buy the island. Therefore, it was conditionally divided into two regions - German and English, where tourists from these countries relax.

Legal nudism

In Mallorca, nudism is legal; moreover, naked sunbathing is allowed here even on public beaches! Therefore, do not be surprised if your neighbor appears completely naked on the beach next to you. Well, if you yourself want to undress, no one will reprimand you. If you want to be “one of our own,” go to one of the nudist beaches, of which there are about ten. The most popular and largest (and beautiful) beach is Playa D’es Trenc,

Holiday every day

Mallorca is an island where not a day goes by without a holiday. In almost every city or town, local residents organize some kind of fun - be it a festival, fair, or concert. For example, people here are used to celebrating the harvest of any harvest - apricots or olives. They didn't even forget about parsley. Moreover, this is done not for the sake of attracting tourists, but for their loved ones. This is the beauty of festive Mallorca.

Souvenir from Mallorca

Although the olive tree was brought to the island by the Greeks, the locals consider it special. And all because of the bizarre shape of its trunk. Folk craftsmen have become adept at creating amazing souvenirs from olive trunks. They also make beautiful furniture. As souvenirs, tourists usually bring these from Mallorca, as well as ceramics, national embroidered items, handmade sandals, unique items made from palm leaves and the famous island pearls.

Musical show in an underground lake

Mallorca has the only underground lake, the largest in Europe. And you won’t see such a show that takes place there in one of the caves, and there are more than two hundred of them: musicians sail on a boat and play live music! This lake is located in the Drak caves, has small sizes- only 177 m long and 40 m wide. And the caves themselves are very long - up to 1700 meters.

Mallorca is a shopaholic's paradise

I already wrote that Mallorca is a real paradise for tourists. It is also a paradise for shopping lovers. There are a lot of stores here: from the most affordable ones, like H&M, to first-class Dior and Prada. And their prices are very attractive - there are constant discounts. Remember the names of these shopping centers (or better yet, write them down) - Porto Pi, Festival Park El and Corte Ingles. Not only can you shop there, but you can also have a delicious lunch, because there are available restaurants, and have a great time, for example, in the cinema to watch the latest hit movie.

Let's go on a cruise

One of the most popular attractions on the island among tourists is a cruise around the Bolearic archipelago. This is not even a cruise, but a personal ferry excursion around the islands. Tickets are not expensive, from 20 euros, and you can always go from Mallorca to reckless Ibiza, cultural Barcelona or an exciting walk around Valencia or Alicante. Here everything will depend on your preferences.
