The Tatra Mountains are very picturesque: the lower part is covered with spruce and pine forest, above 1400 meters - treeless, with a smooth slope and soft outline of the ridges. The combination of rocks, green forest and smooth snow-covered slopes gives birth to landscapes of unprecedented beauty.
The mild climate of Zakopane, the purest water from mineral springs, invigorating mountain air are ideal for treating respiratory diseases, allergies, and anemia.

Trails and lifts in Zakopane:
Since Zakopane is located in a basin between two ridges, the Gubalowka and Tatra Mountains, the main ski areas are located on these ridges along the perimeter of the city. Please note that in Zakopane there are practically no hotels located in close proximity to the ski lifts; most of the hotels are located in the central part of the resort and you need to get to the ski lifts by taxi (don’t be afraid of this, it’s fast (5-10 minutes) and inexpensive (80-120 rub.) per car one way).
If you want to live directly next to the ski lifts, then there are only two options, either to live next to the Nosal ski area or in the Kasprowy Mercure 4* hotel in the Szymaszkowa Polyana ski area.
But it is unlikely that you will ski on only one slope, so we recommend living in the center of Zakopane; you will still have to get to other ski areas.
There are three main ski areas in Zakopane - in the southern part of the city this is the largest and highest area - Kasprowy Wierch and Mount Nosal, in the north of Zakopane - these are the slopes on Mount Gubalowka - Szymaszkowa Polyana, Gubalowka.
Kasprowy Wierch located in the south of the resort, on the territory of the Tatra National Park, this area with the most large area skiing in Zakopane, and in Poland in general. You can get to its top by a pendulum cable car, and at the top there are two chair lifts and several drag lifts. In the 2009 season, a modern gondola lift began to run to Kasprowy Wierch instead of the old pendulum road.
Second largest ski area - Gubałówka(Szymaszkowa Polyana, Gubalowka and Butorowy Wierch) - located north of the city. There is a rail cable car and several new chairlifts. This ski area, especially Szymoskova Polyana - the best place for learning to ride alpine skiing and snowboarding for both children and adults.
Mount Nosal- located in the southeast of Zakopane, on Nosala there is one chair lift and many ski lifts.

Where to go skiing in New Year so that it doesn’t hurt your pocket too much and you can enjoy the sea?! Having thought about the possible answers to this question, we decided to move towards our closest neighbors - Poland.
We found the phone number of the agency that had already sent us on vacation, and asked them to give us an equally good ride around Poland.
By mid-December (having submitted the visa documents to the agency in early November), we were very wary - there were still no visas, although, according to the agent, this would be a matter of one day. Only after long conversations bordering on rudeness on the last day of possible receipt of visas did our agent finally deign to get down to business.

MirSovetov warns tourists: be careful when choosing a travel agency. If this is a small agency specializing, for example, in sea holidays, it is not at all necessary that it will organize your trip to a country little known to it just as well. It is best to choose an agency based on their own offers, the most popular options in the travel agency. If they themselves do not offer you the desired destination, then it is better to find another travel agency.

Arrival and settlement

Quite exhausted, we still made it to our private hotel, described by the travel agent, naturally, as an earthly paradise. It seemed so to us at first, because after the tiring journey the only thing that worried us was a hot shower and a soft bed.
The private hotel "Karolcia" was a three-story house on one of the outskirts of Zakopane, not far from the ski slopes of Mount Horenda. In the basement there was a kitchen and a large, bright dining room for guests. The first floor was decorated in ethnic style and lined with pots of Christmas Star flowers: a small one, leading to a bar decorated with sheepskin; a cozy room-museum with old photographs on the walls, national costumes reminiscent of Hutsul clothing, colorful household items; spacious billiard room with access to a small sauna. Guest rooms are located on the second and third floors.

Quite neat, equipped with new plumbing.
There was just one significant “but”(!) – problems with hot water, which we did not notice immediately upon arrival. And they couldn’t notice, and all for one simple reason.
The Karolcia Hotel, like many other private houses in the village, had autonomous heating and hot water supply from a boiler installed here. Since our group was the first to check into the hotel, we had enough hot water in the shower, and the room was well heated. On other days, when the hotel was completely filled with guests, the air temperature in the rooms was barely maintained at an acceptable level, and not everyone was lucky with hot water. I literally had to race to the shower in order to become the happy owner of a few minutes under the stream of a hot shower.
For travelers planning to live in private houses or hotels, MirSovetov recommends worrying about the living conditions before the trip: ask the agent about the details of the stay and discuss with him your actions in the event of a “flagrant” discrepancy between the purchased tour and the actual conditions. Quite often in such situations, travel agencies meet the client halfway and can negotiate their relocation to another, reserve hotel.

Nutrition

Included in weekly price New Year's tour in Zakopane ($400), in addition to travel and accommodation, also included HB meals (breakfast and dinner). And we have never regretted turning it on.
The hosts really cooked excellently and, despite the fact that there was no buffet with all its variety of dishes and products, small wooden tables were laden with elephant-sized portions of dishes served for breakfast and dinner. After a hearty breakfast, it was even somehow inconvenient to go out onto the mountain slopes with skis in an armful. I wanted to poke around under the blanket for another hour, but we came for a ride!
The owners, unfortunately, served the New Year's banquet too early (at 21.00), not as our fellow citizens are used to doing, only coming to the table at 23.00. In addition, all the hotel guests celebrated the New Year's fun at once: Poles, Ukrainians, Russians. This is probably why the Poles did not live to see their “New Year”. After all, it was necessary to celebrate “12 o’clock” for each of the friendly countries.
Having celebrated the Russian New Year well, we drank, ate, danced, and celebrated our New Year well. And by one o’clock in the morning in Kyiv, almost all snacks and dishes of national cuisine were destroyed, and Polish friends had to be gathered in armfuls along all the steps of the hotel. The poor things did not wait for their midnight.
MirSovetov recommends preparing for the New Year's celebration on your own, and not hoping that the host will do it completely for you. The fact is that each country, of course, has its own special traditions, which hardly anyone will want to change for your sake. There may not be such familiar delicacies that you would not refuse to try on this particular day. And the owners of private hotels provide alcoholic drinks to the table rather sparingly. It would be very difficult for our fellow citizens if they were not so thrifty. :)

Entertainment and relaxation

In winter it is very crowded here, since this resort is the most popular in Poland, and it especially attracts, of course, its eastern neighbors. The resort of Zakopane is surrounded by the picturesque Tatra slopes, and there are a great variety of ski slopes here: green, red, black... - in any case, some of the slopes will suit your abilities and needs.

Of our group of 10 people, only two had personal ones, but on mountain trails Buried with this there have never been problems. Many rental shops offer skis of any choice, but the most popular brand in Poland is Rossignol.

A set of such skis at an average rental center costs 40 zlotys per day.
Basically, from the outskirts to the center of the resort we traveled by frequent minibuses and the fare in them was only one and a half times more than in Kyiv ones. And to get to my favorite mountain Horenda, the road generally took 15 minutes on foot.
Wherever you live in Zakapany, there will be some kind of hill not far from your home. This is perhaps the main convenience of the resort!
And besides skiing, there is something to do here. In the evenings, we enjoyed walking along the main streets of Zakopane, bargaining with street souvenir sellers, and drinking delicious hot wine or beer with a wide variety of flavors.

And some of the days New Year's holidays we devoted trips to historical and cultural attractions of Poland: Krakow, created for long walks (2 hours by bus from Zakopane); Salt caves, which all Poles are proud of (you also need to get to Krakow, and from there a small minibus will take you to the village of Wieliczki); water park located near Krakow.

The ski resort of Zakopane is the highest ski resort in Poland.

The resort got its name from city of the same name Zakopane, which is located in the valley of the Tatra Mountains at altitudes from 727 to 1150 meters and 110 km south of one of the most beautiful cities in Europe, Krakow.

On one side the city is surrounded by the Gubałówka mountain range, and on the other side are the Tatra Mountains.

And although the Zakopane area does not have the most high peaks The Tatras, the height from 1 km 200 m to 1 km 987 m, is quite enough to organize a decent ski resort European level.

I would like to note that the category of skiers who like to travel to the Alps, in particular to visit the famous ones or Austria, can find a good alternative for themselves here, since the Tatra Mountains are in many ways similar to the Alps, except that the scale is smaller, but the prices here is an order of magnitude lower, and getting closer. But first things first.

It is also worth noting that Zakopane is a kind of cultural center southern region Poland, it has been constantly seething here for more than 100 years cultural life, which you can partly plunge into.

But let's still talk about Zakopane as a ski resort.

Number of routes, slopes, lifts in the ski region

The ski region is divided into 3 main areas - Kasprowy Wierch, Nosal, Gubalowka.

General characteristics of the ski region:

  1. Highest point – 1 km 987 m (mountain Kasprowy Wierch);
  2. The height difference is about 950 m;
  3. The total length of the routes (tracks) is about 30 km;
  4. There are twenty lifts;
  5. The length of cross-country skiing routes is about 50 km.

Ski area Kasprowy Wierch

The highest point is 1 km 957 m. Above, at an altitude of 1 km 987 m, there is a weather station. Very crowded, but also the best place for skiing in Poland.

The longest track in Poland is equipped here, the length of which is 4 km 295 meters. There are a total of 5 routes here.

There are two chairlifts leading to the top of the mountain cable cars and one passenger carriage.

The passenger-carriage cable car leads to the very top of the Kasprowy Wierch mountain (center in the diagram). It starts with Kuznice and is divided into two parts.

The first part will take you to a height of 1 km 354 m, the second part to 1 km 959 m.

It is very similar to the Miskhor – Ai-Petri cable car, which is located in Crimea, but a little more modern.

The difference between the lower and upper points is 930 meters.

Nosal ski area

The highest point is 1 km 206 meters. There are 9 routes here, which in terms of preparedness are considered one of the best not only in Zakopane, but also in Poland.

In terms of infrastructure development, everything is excellent here.

Hotels, parking lots, rental offices, cafes and restaurants, everything is nearby.

The number of lifts corresponds to the number of slopes, there are 9 of them, plus one cable car.

The trails here are not large, and the elevation difference is not significant - 245 m, but they are well prepared, some of the routes are illuminated.

There is a 650 m slalom route, which is the best in Poland.

There is a system of artificial snow formation.

Ski area Gubalowka

The highest point of this ski area is 1 km 120 m. There are several small ski slopes. The longest route is 1 km 338 m.

  • Blue trails – 1;
  • Reds – 2;
  • Black – 1;
  • For cross-country skiing – 1 (nearby in the forest).

The ski area is equipped only with rope tows, with the exception of one funicular.

The popularity of the Gubalowka ski area is also due to the fact that you can get to the top of the mountain by cable car directly from the center of Zakopane.

The elevation difference is 300 meters.

At the top there is a special Observation deck, which rises 300 m above the city and from which it opens beautiful view to the city and surrounding mountains.

Many skiers try to compare the Zakopane ski resort with similar resorts in St. Petersburg or the Moscow region and express the opinion that they are somewhat similar. For comparison, many people take .

If we take the ski areas of Nosal and Gubalowka, then there is certainly some similarity, since the elevation changes are almost the same and the preparedness of the slopes is the same.

If we take the Kasprowy Wierch ski area, then there are real mountains here and it would be reckless to compare this ski area with the above-mentioned Russian resorts.

If you are looking quiet place For winter holidays, then the Zakopane ski resort is not for you.

There are always a lot of people here, since not only Poles come here to relax, but also Russians, tourists from neighboring countries, in particular from Ukraine and Slovakia.

The resort regularly hosts winter sports competitions, there is a speed skating track, many jumping boards, and a swimming pool that is open 12 months a year and is filled with geothermal healing waters.

You can relax here all year round, but this topic is not for our article.

Where to stay

Zakopane is the tourist and cultural center of the southern region of Poland, so it would not be correct to say that there will be any problems with accommodation here.

The city can accommodate about 60 thousand tourists at one time due to the large number of hotels, cottage villages, boarding houses, and the private sector.

The most famous hotels:

  1. Three stars – Kasprowy, Orcel, Sabala;
  2. Four stars – Litvor, Villa Marilor, Belvedere;
  3. Boarding houses (3 star rooms) – Sosnitsa, Lipovy Dvor, Orel.

How to get there

It is convenient to get there by two routes, through Krakow and through the Slovak city of Poprad (airport).

From Krakow directly south 110 km, 2 hours 30 minutes on the way and you are there.

You can also travel from Krakow to Zakopane by train.

From Poprad the drive is closer, 68 km, the road passes through the mountains and is very Beautiful places Tatra National Park. There is no railway connection. In general, it’s up to you, but it’s better to go by personal car.

In conclusion, we can say that the Polish ski resort of Zakopane is not only a place with the opportunity to ski, it is a huge party area where you can truly have fun and relax, plunge into the world of art and local folklore.

It is better to come here with a large group or family with children.

It should be noted that this region skiing is not distinguished by the presence of a large number of different trails. The ski areas are scattered and do not have a single lift system that would unite them.

There is also no single Ski pass that would cover the entire ski region.

Since this ski region is very popular place for holidays not only in Poland, but also far beyond its borders, there are frequent queues at the ticket offices and on the ski lifts that you just need to brave. Well, it depends on your luck here.

Despite the fact that the ski season at the resort is open from mid-December to the end of March, the weather in the region is very changeable, there are days when it rains, which can quickly give way to heavy snowfall. But thanks to snow cannons, most ski slopes are always covered with snow.

But all these shortcomings do not spoil the Polish ski resort of Zakopane at all, and it has been considered excellent for a very long time budget place for active winter recreation.

Language barrier

Looking at the license plates of the cars that are parked in the parking lots, you will most likely think that you have come to relax either in Russia or Ukraine.

Here you will hear conversations in Polish, Slovak, Russian, Ukrainian, English and other languages. There is especially no language barrier with the service staff, who are very well prepared to meet tourists from all over the world.

Welcome to the ski resort of Zakopane.

Zakopane - Kasprowy Wierch.

Formula for the perfect trip

  • Time and money - 10 days, $1000 per person
  • Who to go with - a married couple with or without children, beginners, pros who want to eat and drink more than ride. Women won't be bored
  • Skiing and snowboarding - there are almost no difficult trails, most of the slides are “green” and “blue” with well-developed infrastructure
  • In addition to skiing - thermal baths, spas, cheap restaurants with local flavor, boutiques

Skiing in Zakopane dates back to the days when Josef Fischer produced handcarts instead of skis, and athletes wore a tie before the start. But until the middle of the 19th century, only shepherds and sheep knew about the remote mountain village. Then it would never have occurred to anyone that you could “relax in the mountains.” We went to the sea or to the waters.

Dr. Titus Halubinsky changed everything. A doctor, local historian, revolutionary, founder of the Polish Tatra Society, he stated that only in Zakopane there is a special mountain air. Only there you can cure all diseases, improve your health and just have fun.

Count Władysław Zamoyski was inspired by the idea of a healthy lifestyle and skiing. He bought Zakopane together with the surrounding area for 460,002.03 zlotys in 1889. He curbed a mountain river, cut down trees on mountain slopes, turning them into ski slopes and building a railway.

The first world championship was held here in 1929. Ten years later they decided to repeat it. Nowadays, championships are held regularly, and the World Cup in ski jumping is held annually. This is because the largest ski jump in Poland was built in Zakopane - Wielka Krokiew with a K-point at 120 meters.

Now Zakopane − main center winter sports and recreation in the Polish Republic. There is the highest springboard here, the most big skating rink, the longest cable car, rope tow.

Where to ride

Zakopane is considered to be a ski resort for beginners. But this statement is not entirely true, there are “red” slopes and steep hills. As a rule, difficult sections stretch from the top of the mountain to the middle, and then move into the blue or even green category. Indeed, the resort is designed for mass tourists, so the slopes are gentle, and there are numerous ski schools that accept both adults and children.

A tough professional may get bored; on some rides he will have to go around hundreds of beginners. But in some places you can still find your dose of adrenaline or go freeriding.

There is usually a restaurant near the lift below, and at the top of the mountain there is fast food with coffee and beer. On the hill you will definitely be offered low-alcohol drinks and light snacks with national flavor. Unlike other places, it is not mulled wine that is more popular here, but warmed beer. Honey, jam, and spices can be added to it. And as a snack they offer goat cheese. Perhaps the reason lies in extreme hunger from skiing, but it is extremely difficult to resist these delicacies. Prices fluctuate within a few zlotys.

Zakopane is, first and foremost, a ski resort; vacationers come here for health and pleasure. Therefore, not all restaurants serve alcoholic drinks.

There are really a lot of restaurants, high competition keeps prices at an acceptable level and forces the owners to come up with new ways to attract customers.

Approximate prices:

  • Bottle of Pepsi or other soda 0.25 l − 3 zł
  • Grilled fish/pork/poultry dish - from 13 to 20 zł per serving

If you like a particular restaurant, it makes sense to reserve a table in the morning for the evening. Once the darkness drives skiers off the slopes, it will be difficult to find a free place.

Zakopane - verdict

An excellent Eastern European ski resort with lots of slides, trails and activities. Any skier can find “their” hill here, although serious professionals may find it a little boring. A bit far for a weekend trip, but excellent for a 7-10 day trip. An ideal place to learn skiing, many children's schools and simplified slopes. If you want to put your child on skis, take him to Zakopane.

When planning your expenses, base your meal plan on $100 a day if you're eating for a week. This amount will include expenses for travel, accommodation, meals at the bistro and skiing. And if you take $1000, then you can already eat in restaurants, visit thermal baths and buy souvenirs. When planning a budget student trip, you need to be very careful about discounts and special offers. For experienced tourists I manage to keep it to just $300, but it’s better to have a little more money in reserve.

You can travel to Zakopane without a car, as the city has plenty of public transport. But you will be somewhat cramped and tied to the traffic of the sky buses. Having own car, you can travel not only main city resort, but also all its surroundings.
