Samui Thailand best beaches. All beaches of Samui: detailed overview with photos

So, in order. I will tell you about those beaches that, from my point of view, are worth visiting. I liked the beaches listed below and I personally visited them all. Some are good for hanging out, some are good for meditation and relaxation, and most can be enjoyed while swimming.

Chaweng Beach(Chaveng Beach)- the most central and popular on Samui, a kind of analogue of Phuket Patong Beach. Situated on east coast islands - you can watch the sunrise. As for me, Chaweng is suitable for swimming starting from its central part and further to the south. A good gentle entry into the sea, a clean bottom without stones, more suitable for married couples with children. In favor of this is soft and shallow White sand which is pleasant to wander around. Along the edge of the beach farthest from the water, everything is lined with sun loungers and cafes; you can use sun loungers only if you live in the appropriate hotel. I'm not a fan of lying on the beach - so it didn't bother me at all.

Excellent infrastructure, a lot of expensive and not so expensive hotels, as a result, many package tourists vacation here. Chaweng is crowded even in the low season. As a result, there are many traders of all kinds of food. It is stormy here mainly from November to January, but the rest of the year is calm.

There are a lot of different things here marine entertainment– jetskis, bananas and catamarans.

Silence on Chaweng comes in the morning - from 9.00 to 11.00 in the morning you can calmly enjoy high-quality sand, sea and silence. I recommend visiting it at this time.

Chaweng Noi Beach(Chaveng Noi Beach)- in fact, this is South part Chaweng beach. It is completely different from central Chaweng and personally, I vote for this beach with both hands. This is where I lived. Pros: there is no such traffic as in central Chaweng, the entry into the water is not as shallow and gentle, there are fewer people, there are practically no traders. Close to Lamai beach and to the market where we bought seafood for grilling. Our hotel was located above the road and this did not bother us at all - we were not tied to a specific beach and saw 75% of everything that can be seen on Samui.

Lamai Beach (Lamai Beach)– another popular beach that is more preferred independent travelers. Mostly in the vicinity of the beach there are inexpensive bungalows and hotels. The sand is coarser and for some reason you fall into it, on Chaweng it is smaller and denser, but somehow the beach caught your attention. Probably because it is less commercialized than Chaweng. There is no particular beauty, there are palm trees over the sea. Spacious and serene, much less crowded than on Chaweng. In my rating I put it in 2nd place. From here it is most convenient to get to many of the attractions of Samui - waterfalls, temples and simply beautiful places.

Coral Cove

Very picturesque bay, between the beaches Chaweng NoiAndLamai Beach. Only 130 meters of sand. The main feature of the beach is the huge beautiful boulders of coral origin. The landscape is somewhat reminiscent Seychelles, there are plenty of secluded places between the boulders. Ideal for lovers of silence, only sea, sand and boulders, nothing else here. The nearest bar and restaurant is upstairs, along the Samui Ring Road, where the Coral Cove Hotel is located, from which bungalows offer excellent views of the Gulf of Thailand. You can only get to the beach through the hotel territory; many people think that the beach also belongs to the hotel - this is not so. There are no private beaches on Koh Samui, you can walk and sunbathe and swim freely. Nevertheless, strangers practically do not go to this beach - which makes it simply an ideal place for a secluded atmospheric holiday.

A big plus of the beach is that the place is secluded, but it is very close to active parties and nightlife; you can get to the nearest party in Lamai or Chaweng by songthaew (local view public transport) in 10 minutes for a small amount.

Thongtakian

This is the most beautiful bay on Koh Samui, as for me. She is especially beautiful from above. It’s easy to find, after Coral Cove if you go south, the ring road turns sharply in the area of the Thongtakian Hotel, Cristal is also located nearby Bay Resort, La Mer Samui Resort and Samui Yacht club. There are signs everywhere, so it's hard to miss. The path to the beach goes towards the sea, we follow the hotel signs and get to the beach.

The bay is also called Silver Beach(Silver beach) or Crystal Bay. There are picturesque rocks on both sides, and a coral reef under the water. If you're lucky, you might see turtles or small stingrays. Mask and fins are required. The beach itself is unusually green; in addition to palm trees, it is full of other deciduous trees that create a cozy and private atmosphere.

Here there is white, very fine, powdery sand and a clear sea. On the left side of the bay there is Gliboka literally right away, there are boulders nearby, on the right there is shallow water - ideal for children, for families with children there is freedom here.

There is a cafe on the shore, and further away there are several good quality restaurants, including the famous The Cliff, naturally with a steep view of the sea.

Laem Set

The place is very quiet and not very popular among mass tourists. Located south of the beaches Hua Thanon, on Cape Laem Set. The entrance to the water is very gentle, resulting in an unpresentable appearance at high tides. A definite plus is the long coral reef further from the shore. In addition to snorkeling, the beach is ideal for activities active species sports - kiting or windsurfing.

The place is located near the mega-popular Lamai beach. The eastern part of the beach is a great place to watch the sunrise.

From here it is convenient to get to the Na Muang 1 and Na Muang 2 waterfalls, near the Aquarium, the Butterfly Garden and the Tiger Zoo.

Other attractions include Buddha’s Footprint (see map)

Bang Kao, Natien Beach

This is the very south Koh Samui. From the west, the beaches are closed by Cape So (Laem So), on which the most southern point islands, and from the east - Laem Set beach.
Cape So – the best place for watching the sunset, although the beauty is hampered by the coast of Surat Thani, which is in full view from here. In addition to sunsets, you can clearly see the sunrise from here, which is often no less beautiful than the sunset.

Bang Kao has a gentle entrance to the water, soft and pleasant sand. Ideal for morning walks and relaxing alone. Nearby there is a small coral reef where you can dive.

Not far from the beach in the depths of the island is the Wat Khunaraam temple. It is famous for a mummified monk who died more than thirty years ago during another meditation in the lotus position.

Another attraction is the Laem Sor pagoda, which looks very beautiful in the evening light against the background turquoise sea, it is located on Cape So (Laem Sor). On the same cape is the White Pagoda (Khao Chedi)

Samrong Bay

This is the most expensive bay of the island, the northernmost bay, and from here it is closest to another paradise island, Koh Phangan. Two hundred meters of coarse yellow sand and picturesque rocks, a gradual increase in depth - a brief description of beach Few tourists know about this bay, which is why it is also called Secret Bay.

There is an airport and airplanes nearby - the only thing that bothers people vacationing here, however, you quickly get used to them.

The most expensive hotel on the island, Arayaburi Boutique Resort, is located here. The entrance to the beach is through the hotel, you can leave your car upstairs and not worry about anything. The beach is miniature, less than 200 meters long and very picturesque. This is the quietest beach on the island, there are plenty of tables around where you can sit and watch the sea. It is better to swim in slippers; you will come across sharp fragments of corals and shells.

In addition, there are a couple more beautiful beaches at Cape Samrong.

Choeng Mon

Located in the northeast of the island. The beach is surrounded by greenery and is about a kilometer long. Fine coral sand alternates in places with coarser sand. The beach is divided into two bays, the entrance to the water is convenient with a gradual increase in depth. The water is clear, and the bottom is clear of small corals and cameos. The advantage of the beach is calm and clear water.

The coastline is lined with mostly high-level hotels. The beach is equipped with sun loungers, showers and toilets. Full of cafes, restaurants and, of course, massage corners. Suitable like many Samui beaches for family vacation and those who like to dine right on the beach in a restaurant.

There is no active nightlife or related entertainment. There is a golf club nearby. The landmark of the beach is a huge figure of a football player with balls, made of coconuts.

Maenam Beach

This beach is located in the north of the island. It also offers views of Koh Phangan. Coarse yellow sand, a gentle entrance and a length of about 5 kilometers. The water is somewhat muddy, as two rivers flow into the bay in this area. At low tides the bottom is not exposed, there is enough depth. Not far from the beach there is a morning market, generally concentrated local residents here is the highest. This area is good for long stay on the island. This is where it is ideal to observe the life of local residents and this, in my opinion, is the most authentic place on Samui. Suitable for those who want to immerse themselves in the environment and live a little among the Thais.

Bophut

Bophut Beach is located in the north of the island, east of the beach Maenam Beach, and borders on nearby beaches– Maenam and Big Buddha.

The length of the sand spit is about three kilometers. The sand here is about the same as on Maenam.

Bophut Beach is famous primarily for its unique cafes, signature restaurants and conceptual boutique hotels.

Along the main street of the beach there are many small Thai shops, with most of them being self made. The place is quite crowded, but pleasant. Here is the most delicious Thai Tom Yum soup.

On this beach there is the famous Fisherman’s Village or “fishing village”; most of the chefs of famous Samian restaurants buy local fish from this market.

Most of the hotels are expensive, but you can find a fairly decent one in the mid-range.

This article is ideal for those who are planning to visit the island and want to choose the best beach on Koh Samui that they like best.

There are many beaches on Koh Samui and for each of you there will be a highlight on one of them, which you will like most and will force you to stop at the one that, in your opinion, is more interesting due to its uniqueness or due to some other conditions for relaxing on German

The beaches I describe below are not complete and exhaustive. I chose only those that, in my opinion, are more attractive.

Also, if you are going on vacation, you can book your hotel through the Roomguru service, it will immediately show you in which booking system the hotel will cost less!

Hotels on Koh Samui

Here is a list of the best beaches on this island that I turned my attention to:

#1: Ban Thai Beach

Ban Tai Beach is located in the northeast of the island itself and is popular place holidays with parents and children. The Mimosa Hotel is located next to the beach, which is why it was popularly called Mimosa Beach. It is located away from all the attractions of the island. Here, as a rule, it is not crowded, the sand is clean and there is a good entry into the water.

- One of the disadvantages eastern beach appears that there is a strip of algae and a rocky bottom running not far from the shore, about 50 meters from the shore.

- But if you go to its western part, then there are all the conditions for your swimming.

Coral Cove Beach is located in a secluded bay, it is only 100 meters long. It is surrounded by rocky shores and there are huge boulders on both sides of the beach, which gives it a special atmosphere.

The beach itself leaves a pleasant impression of tranquility. The sand on it is coarse and yellowish in color. The water itself is a shade of bright blue.

The peculiarity of this beach is that the road to it is located at the top, much above sea level, and you have to go down the steps to get there.

There are three Hotels in Coral Cove Chalet located near the beach. There is a small cafe. The only downside is that there is practically no shade to hide from the scorching sun, and there are also a lot of stones in the water, scattered not far from each other.

The beach is located in the north-east of the island. The beach itself is clean, the hotel workers look after it very well. There is not much space for normal swimming, since to the right and left of it there are many small stones and fragments of coral in the water. So you need to swim there carefully.

Choeng Mon Beach is located in the northeastern part of Koh Samui.
The sea here is almost always calm, even during the wave season (from November to mid-February). The entrance to the water is gentle, and the water itself is quite transparent. True, muddy areas can be found 30-40 m from the shore.
The best part of the beach is the central one, with a wide sandy line and a pleasant entry into the sea. You can swim here even at low tide.
Along the outskirts of the beach there are a lot of stones and corals, and the southern part is not at all suitable for swimming.

Chong Mon is one of the best beach places among tourists. And the reasons are quite obvious. With its vibrant nightlife, its powdery white sand, its palm trees, restaurants and hotels, all this and much more makes Choeng Mon one of the best beaches on Koh Samui.

Choeng Mon Beach is located in a beautiful bay and is ideal tourist place for couples or anyone looking for private, quiet time for themselves and their family.

Choeng Mon attracts huge crowds of people of all ages. The best sand castles are made from sand on Chong Gmon. Its restaurants and cafes offer excellent cuisine designed for any visitor.

Bang Po Beach is also located in the north of the island, between the beaches of Thong Plu Bay on the west side and Ban Thai Beach on the east.

The beach itself stretches for 5 km with various exit points to it from the ring road. It is usually quiet and peaceful and is suitable for those who like quiet and secluded places. There are many restaurants and hotels located along the entire beach, mainly on its western side. Between April and September the tides are not high, which is not good for swimming as the water becomes very shallow. It should be taken into account that there are many stones in the water that are not always visible.

There are no annoying salesmen here who are trying to sell you something. It offers magnificent views of Phangan Island and the national marine park islands. Here you can watch local fishermen casting their nets early in the morning or at night.

Overhanging palms and other trees are good for shade, they also have swings and generally look like tropical paradise. Considering this is a budget resort, this is excellent value for money.

Today I will tell you how things are in Koh Samui in the summer, in June, July and August, and why the summer months are best time for a holiday on Koh Samui. Many would argue that in Thailand, summer is the rainy season. Most tourists believe that in June, July and August it rains around the clock and it’s definitely not worth vacationing on Koh Samui in the summer. Is it really?

The weather and beaches on Koh Samui in June look like in the photo

We knew that Koh Samui is very good in the summer, both in terms of weather and recreation in general. A couple of blogs flashed information that there is no rain on Samui in the summer, and the weather and sea are much better than in the first months of the high season. At the beginning of June we arrived on the island and saw this for ourselves.

Why summer is the best time to holiday on Koh Samui

The rainy season on Samui begins in September and lasts until December-January, sometimes even continuing to flood until February. Then in March the weather is finally great, but then April and May are the driest and hottest months, which is also not the best time to go on vacation. The temperature is +35C, I don’t want to go outside again...

Officially, the high season on Samui begins in October-November and lasts until April and early May. That is, in New Year, like everywhere else, the island is in peak season. Tourist season, but not natural. Rains at this time are frequent, the sea is cloudy, there are waves on all the beaches, and garbage washes up on the shore. But since it’s “high season,” there will be a lot of tourists everywhere, crowds of Chinese at all the attractions and vacationers on the beaches in rare moments of sunshine.

Hotels on Koh Samui

  • Samui Beach Resort
  • Crystal Bay Yacht Club Beach Resort
  • Escape Beach Resort
  • Ibis Samui Bophut
  • Chaweng Villawee Hotel
  • Samui Little Garden Resort

All hotels on Koh Samui

This is what Lamai beach looks like in November, when the high season has already begun. Reminds me of Pattaya?

In February and March, most likely everything will be fine with the weather, but not with the beaches, the water will still be cloudy. In April the heat begins. And by May the island is gradually emptying. The winterers have already gone home. Package travelers practically no longer come, as travel agencies tell them that it rains in Thailand in the summer. The beaches and streets are empty. Everyone was scared by the approaching rainy season...

Empty Walking street on Lamai (photo June)

Few people know that the rainy season here is in autumn, not summer. And in summer, Samui has the most comfortable weather, +30C +32C, the cleanest sea and practically no tourists.

How many of you have dreamed of a holiday on popular resort without tourists? Welcome to Koh Samui during the summer months!

Is a gorgeous beach without tourists a dream? This is reality in July!
(Photo: Lamai beach)

Also added to the delights of the low season are reduced housing prices. Many hotels are reducing their prices by 50% or even more. Do you want to relax in a 4-star resort on the first line for 1200 baht per day? No problem!

Weather on Koh Samui in summer

Oddly enough, the island of Koh Samui apparently has its own climate, separate from the rest of Thailand. The rainy season here is in the fall. And in June, July, August it is sunny. It also rains, but not more often than usual, maybe a couple of times a week, more often in the evening or at night.

It's always sunny in the morning

It rains not every day, usually in the afternoon, short-term for 20-30 minutes

In the evening, most often the sky is covered with clouds. Well, okay, the sunset wouldn’t be visible here anyway.

Weather forecast sites such as gismeteo.com and pogoda.yandex.ru forecast rain and thunderstorms for every day. But in fact, the weather is sunny almost every day.

Clouds may appear in the afternoon. The temperature is conducive to walking outdoors. During the day the average is +31C, at night +26C.

You can always see what the weather is like now. The camera shows live video, so you can easily find out what the weather is like, whether there are clouds, what waves, etc. Just look not at night, but during the day. Time in Thailand is +4 hours to Moscow.

What is the sea and waves like on Koh Samui in summer?

Best of all, the sea in June, July and August is the calmest and cleanest. There are no waves on all main beaches. It doesn’t happen from day to day, of course, but most often the sea is clear, there is no debris floating in the water, neither natural nor human. Perhaps the best time for swimming! It is especially convenient to go to Koh Samui in the summer with a child. Swimming with children in the sea will be ideal, the water is clean and there are no waves. Jellyfish were also never seen.

Sea at Lamai at its best(photo: June)

Sea on Chaweng

The sea on Mainam. Same thing in Bophut

The calmest and clearest sea on our favorite Thongtakian Beach (aka Silver Beach or Crystal Bay)

Koh Samui beaches in summer

Lamai

The sea is perfect in summer. The water temperature is +28C, judging by the forecasts of Gismeteo and Yandex, and many beaches in Thailand can envy the transparency. The waves are sometimes small and do not interfere with swimming. I saw a completely calm sea on Lamai beach several times. If in the high season Lamai Beach is dirty, muddy and waves, there is no desire to swim, then in the summer it is beautiful, clean and in general in the summer it is one of the best beaches in Samui.

Chaweng

In summer the water is blue and clear. We never saw any garbage in the water. They wrote to us in the comments about the muddy bottom, but we didn’t notice this; there was pleasant sand everywhere at the bottom.

Maenam

Deserted in summer. Just the dream of someone who is tired of people and wants to relax alone when there is no one within a radius of at least 100 meters. Only rare traders can ruin your relaxation.

Bophut

In the summer, he lives a busy life. Perhaps the most tourists come to Bophut in the summer. We walked around Fisherman Village, sat in a cafe, and you couldn’t tell that it was low season. There are customers in all restaurants, many are walking along the beach street, sunbathers are located on the beach, the hotel pool Hansar Samui Resort & Spa crowded with bathers.

Other beaches

It is also not deprived of the attention of vacationers. Despite the “low season” and its obscurity, there are a number of people on the beach of the Crystal Bay Hotel, and it’s quite crowded in the shade under a tree. There are no waves at all, the water is calm, like in a pond.

Almost empty. Now there are literally 3-5 couples on the entire beach, which are evenly distributed along the beach on their mats, some in the shade, some sunbathing. A couple of people are sitting in the water near the shore (we already told you that this beach is not very suitable for swimming).

Coral Cove Beach

Where to stay on Koh Samui

On the island of Ko Samui, not all beaches are as heavenly as they seem. Roughly speaking, only 4 major beaches are suitable for swimming - Lamai, Chaweng, Bophut and Maenam. You can also swim in several small ones that are located between them, such as Thongtakian, Chaweng Noi, Thongson, Chong Monk. We have compiled several convenient selections of hotels with good reviews on all main beaches suitable for swimming.

And today we will talk about the best beaches on Koh Samui. Despite the fact that the territory of Samui is small, there are quite a lot of different beaches, from the most party beaches to wild, little-visited places. Therefore, everyone can find a beach to suit their taste. All beaches on the island are free and you can freely access any of them, even if it is located on the territory of a hotel or restaurant.

I will describe Koh Samui beaches from north to south, you can trace on the map where this or that place is located. We will talk about the 14 best beaches, most of them are located on the eastern part of the island, in principle, this is where tourists stop. The remaining beaches can be classified as wild; there is practically no infrastructure and they are not suitable for tourist recreation.

Bang Por is located on the northern part of Koh Samui, its length is 6 kilometers. It's pretty quiet place, there are a lot of housing for rent here and the prices are much lower than in popular tourist areas. Therefore, if you come for the winter and want to save money, then this area is ideal for you. The beach is clean sandy with a smooth entrance to the sea, perfect for families with children. There are few people, there is no entertainment on the beach, but there are a large number of different cafes and restaurants along the shore, so you won’t go hungry. Thai children often play on the shore, and there are also many fishing boats.

Ban Thai Beach

I fell in love with Ban Tai for its fine, soft white sand. However, the sea is almost everywhere overgrown with algae, which is inconvenient for swimming. Only at the end of the beach there is a single place with a clean bottom and clear water, it is in this part of the beach that large cluster vacationers. The entrance to the sea is so smooth that you need to walk a hundred meters for the water to reach your neck. But the view from there is simply incredible. beautiful view to the beach. The Mimosa Hotel is located on the shore; the beach itself is often named after this hotel.

Maenam Beach

Most often I lived in the Maenam area and visited this beach. This is a fairly quiet place, not crowded, there are no water activities or merchants. The sand on the shore is yellow and coarser than on Ban Tai. The entrance to the sea is smooth, the water is clean. There are many cafes and restaurants along the shore; palm trees grow along the entire coastline, creating natural shade on the beach. Read more about this beach.

W-Resort Beach

Separately, I would like to highlight the beach, which belongs to one of the most expensive hotels on Koh Samui, W-Resort. It is well maintained, with all the amenities for hotel residents. There are various sun loungers, a restaurant on the beach and even a huge chess set. Despite the fact that this is a private territory, access is open to strangers. Many people come here to take great photos.

Bo Phut Beach

Bo Phut is another one north beach Samui. There are numerous hotels on its shores and access to it is either through their territory or on the Fishermann Village embankment. Many tourists relax on this beach, the infrastructure is well developed, and a large amount of entertainment is offered. The sea is clean, the descent into the water is smooth, the sand on the beach is yellow and soft. Open on Fridays clothing market which runs along the beach.

Bang Rak Beach

Bang Rak is a calm beach in the north of the island, close to the airport. The infrastructure is quite well developed, water activities are available. The beach is close to the road and large Big C and Tesco Lotus stores. The sea is clean, the sand is soft on the shore, however, the bottom in some parts of the beach is rocky, which is not very convenient for swimming. As a rule, there are few people here.

Thongson Beach

Thong Son is a quiet bay on Koh Samui, along which there are quite expensive hotels. The sea is shallow and clean, the sand is soft. Perfect place for holidays with children. The infrastructure is underdeveloped, there are few people. Thong Son is considered the most romantic and secluded place, here beautiful nature and magnificent sunsets.

Chong Mon Beach

Choeng Mon is quite crowded, especially in high season. There are many water activities and merchants here. Due to the shallow sea it is ideal for children's recreation. The sea is clean, there are no waves, the sand is fine and grayish. There are many cafes, bars, massage parlors along the shore, and you can rent a sun lounger.

Chaweng Beach

The most popular and party beach on Koh Samui. Many package tourists and young people relax here. Great amount cafes, restaurants, massage parlors, bars and shops. Entertainment for every taste; parties are often held on the beach. Chaweng is considered the most party and noisy place on the island. The sand on the beach is fine and snow-white, the sea is clean and shallow. Read more about Chaweng Beach.

Chaweng Noi Beach

Chaweng Noi is considered the younger brother of Chaweng, but it is smaller and quieter. The beach is beautiful, well-groomed, the sand is white and soft, the sea is quite deep. There are hotels along the coast and the beach can only be accessed through their territory. All infrastructure is provided by hotels, and there are water activities.

Coral Cove is small but very beautiful and cozy beach. It has become a favorite place for many who have visited here. Despite its inaccessibility, there are always quite a lot of people on the beach. The descent from the main road to Coral Cove is quite steep, so be careful when exiting it. There is practically no entertainment here, only a couple of cafes on the shore. The sea is deep and clean, the bottom is sandy, despite the fact that the beach is surrounded by rocks. In winter there are often waves, but they are small.

Crystal Bay

Crystal Bay is also called Thong Takian Beach and Silver Beach. It's crowded but very a nice place. The sand is snow-white, the sea is azure and shallow, there are almost never waves. Families with children often come here. There are hotels, restaurants and cafes on the shore. Despite the fact that the beach is popular with tourists, it is quite calm here, there is no entertainment or youth parties.

Lamai Beach

Lamai is the second most popular beach after Chaweng. It has a long coastline of 4 kilometers. The best place to relax and swim is the center of the beach. The sand is fine, light yellow, the sea is clean. IN winter time often happen big waves. There are always a lot of people here and a varied selection of entertainment. On the shore there are cafes, restaurants, bars, hotels, massage centers. The beach is great for active rest. You can read more about Lamai Beach.

Hua Thanon

Hua Thanon – beautiful place, people often gather here to play volleyball or go out to morning jog. There are quite a lot of hotels, both expensive and cheap, along the coast. Hua Thanon is a popular kitesurfing destination. There aren't very many people here. Near the beach there is an aquarium, a butterfly park, and a tiger zoo.

All the beaches that I described in this article are the most popular among tourists, while the rest are either dirty or not at all suitable for swimming.

Which Samui beaches did you like best? In which area do you most often vacation? Write in the comments.

In this post I will tell you about the beaches of Koh Samui, and I’ll also try to describe the pros and cons of each, I’ll show a lot of photos and videos, and at the end of the article, I’ll determine best Koh beach Samui in my opinion.

It's no secret that before traveling to another country beach holiday We pay great attention to the hotel and the beach near it. After all, our decision where to stay depends on this. Today I will try to tell you about my impressions of the beaches of Koh Samui.

My decision to visit the island of Koh Samui was born spontaneously, so I had time to study information, read books, etc. I didn’t have it, and I didn’t have the same desire. This is not always a good thing, but in my case, lately, this is exactly what happens. I'm interested in exploring everything on the spot and discovering some new places for myself.

But for my readers, I do not recommend practicing this method if you are limited in time and you do not know the country well. It is better to choose proven routes, and also make decisions depending on the advice and reviews of people who have already visited these places. After all, this is the only way you can choose what you like and not be disappointed with the choice you made.

In this article I will try to help you choose the best beach on Koh Samui.

As I wrote above, there are many beaches here, but let’s be more specific.

Here is a list of all the beaches on the island:

  1. Bo Phut
  2. Samrong Bay
  3. Tong Son Bay
  4. Choeng Mon
  5. Chaweng
  6. Chaweng Noi Bay
  7. Laem Nam Beach
  8. Lamai
  9. Hua Thanon
  10. Beach (Natien Beach)
  11. Bang Kao
  12. Thong Tanote Beach
  13. Pang Ka Bay
  14. Taling Ngam
  15. Tong Yang
  16. Nathon
  17. Bang Por
  18. Mae Nam

The list is impressive, isn't it?! But despite this abundance of beaches, some of them are not at all suitable for swimming, somewhere they are very shallow, somewhere there are a lot of stones and corals, and somewhere the pier is simply dirty. Let's take a closer look at the ones I was able to visit with photos, videos and descriptions.

Bo Phut District

Bo Phut area or Fisherman Village is one of the three most popular areas on the island. Mostly married couples, as well as newlyweds, relax here. It seemed to me that this is one of the most expensive districts of Koh Samui. Judging by the prices for hotels, food, hookah.

Local restaurants each have their own style, they look very healthy.

There is almost no nightlife here, most of the establishments close around 00:00, but there is a good place with excellent music, cocktails and hookah. If you stand facing the sea, near the wooden pier, then this place will be on the left, about 700-900 meters from it.

There are almost no young people in this area, mostly older foreign couples. Bo Phut itself seemed like a quiet place to me. Not for those who like fun and parties.

Bo Phut Beach

Since the area itself is quite large, accordingly beach line not small here. Bo Phut is divided into two bays. One is popular and has hotels, the other is not very popular and has almost no hotels.

As for the beach and sea. They are suitable for swimming and beach holidays, and I think this is the most important thing for many.

On the first bay, the sea is not very clean and a little muddy, but from a distance of 5-10 meters from the beach, it looks very decent, look at the photo.

The entrance to the sea is good, there is no silt at the bottom, the depth begins about 5-7 meters from the shore. The sand on the beach is coarse, so your foot feels it very well. Unfortunately, some parts of the beach are a bit dirty, with bottles, bags and all sorts of other nasty things scattered around.

I didn’t see any merchants on this beach, there are sun loungers, but I don’t know if they are for rent or not, but I think if they can be rented, then don’t count on a price below 100 baht.

View from the wooden pier to another part of Bo Phut (first bay)

The second Bangrak bay of this area is quieter, there are almost no hotels, and if there are, then they are across the road. The sea on the second bay is very similar to that on the first, perhaps a little cleaner, since there are fewer people here.

The beach here is noisier, since there is a road nearby, coastline very small, but enough for a towel. I didn’t see any sun loungers here, so come here only with your beach accessories. There are palm trees as umbrellas, of which there are quite a lot. The sand is almost the same as in the first bay.

Choeng Mon District

This area seemed very calm to me, although I was passing through here, so first impressions can be deceiving. But judging by the descriptions on the Internet, this is truly a secluded place with a beautiful natural sea and beach. I also couldn’t take a photo, since there is no walking street here like, for example, in Bo Phut.

This area is suitable for those who want a relaxing beach holiday.

Choeng Mon Beach

I managed to visit the most extreme part of this area, just before the start of Chaweng, or more precisely on the territory of the Olivio restaurant, the hotel was called Matlang Resort.

There is no beach opposite the hotel, so guests have to climb over rocks (about 20 meters) to the beginning of Chaweng Beach. Because the sea here is very clean, I liked it, and there is also a great pool/jacuzzi not far from the bar and with a magnificent view. See it all for yourself in the photo below.

Chaweng District

Chaweng (in English Chaweng)- This is the heart of Koh Samui, the busiest area of the island. Here's how night life, so great beach rest. Here you will find many restaurants and cafes, massage parlors, hotels and shops, as well as fun and child-friendly entertainment.

The area is quite large and lively, this is especially noticeable at night. It is not for nothing that it is considered the most pretentious on the island, since most of the hotels are 4*-5*, but despite this, prices here are much lower than on Bo Phut.

I noticed that during the day almost all the shops are closed, and there are almost no people on the street, apparently this is a common occurrence, so the owners of some shops do not open during the day, but begin their work closer to 16:00 - 17:00.

Like Bo Phut, there are many interesting restaurants, the choice is so large that in the evening choosing a place for your meal becomes problematic.

At night another life awakens in Chaweng, here you will find several beach discos, hookahs on the seashore, fire shore, great music and atmosphere.

I think that Chaweng is perfect for those who like beach holidays during the day and fun at night.

Chaweng Beach

Chaweng has a great beach. Wide coastline (about 10-15 meters, in some places perhaps a little more), long (about 3-4 km), clean. This is one of the few beaches where the number of hotels, discos, cafes and bars has not affected the cleanliness and beauty of the sea and sand.

I would like to note that the sand here is simply a miracle, fine and soft, as well as the entrance to the sea and its depth, ideal. Plus, there are no stones or corals that you could accidentally step on and get injured.

Even in bad weather, it is much cleaner here than on any other beach.

Bays between Chaweng Noi and Laem Nam Beach

Besides large areas Where there are many hotels, Koh Samui has small bays that are not only quiet, but also beautiful. I was able to visit two.

  1. The first one is near Hotel Coral Cove Resort.
  2. The second one is near Crystal Bay.

These bays are perfect for those who love privacy and silence, there are only a few hotels here, there is almost nothing except a couple of restaurants. If you want to go somewhere at night, it will not be so easy without your own vehicle.

Well, now let's see how it all looks in photos and videos.

Photos and videos of the bay near the Coral Cove Resort hotel

On the first bay the sea is calm, clean, but not azure. The sand on the beach is coarse, the beach is clean, there are few people, the entrance to the sea is good, but sometimes there are stones on the way.

In terms of beauty and cleanliness, this place is much better than the previous one. The sand here is fine, white and soft. The sea is very beautiful, azure, a lot large stones, but they only add beauty to the surrounding landscape. There are a little more people here than on the first bay, but again not so many, so everyone will have a place in the sun.

Lamai District

The Lamai area is considered one of the three most popular on the island. Its popularity is due to the fact that there are significantly more hotels from 1* to 3*, and accordingly, room prices here are much lower than in Chaweng or Bo Phut. As for cafes and restaurants, prices here are not too different from Chaweng. I didn't notice much of a difference. The only thing is that there are a little more cheap cafes where Thais themselves eat.

Another thing I noticed is that the area looks much poorer and more modest than the other two I mentioned above, and there are also significantly more women/prostitutes and bars here than anywhere else on the island. Despite this, Lamai Beach is very quiet at night, as all the concentration is directed towards street bars and several discos. At night, there are a couple of restaurants and bars on the beach with hookah and music. Therefore, if you like beach parties, then you should go to Chaweng.

If you compare the contingent of people of Lamai, Chaweng or Bo Phut, then the differences are obvious. There are more poor backpackers here, old farangs who do nothing but drink all day and, as I already said, girls of easy virtue. And also many of our compatriots.

In general, my impressions of this area remained neutral; for some it may be fun here, but for others they will not like it at all.

This area is more suitable for singles (but not everyone), as well as for those who want to save on hotel costs and a little on food.

If I were to choose a place for my vacation on the island, it would definitely not be the Lamai area.

Lamai Beach

The beach is long, about 4 - 5 km, at the beginning and in the middle of the beach the sea is not the cleanest, it seemed to me that the sea here is the dirtiest, if you compare it with other beaches on the island. The sand on the beach is coarse, it is far from ideal (soft, white as flour), so if you lie on it without towels, you won’t last long. The entrance to the sea is gentle, the depth is good, there is no silt at the bottom, in general, it is suitable for swimming.

There are many Thai families with children on this beach on weekends, which makes it not the best place for a relaxing beach holiday.

For those who want to go here, be aware that the condition of this beach greatly depends on weather conditions and some other factors unknown to me that turn the sea into a green swamp.

When I asked the Thais why the sea was this color, I couldn’t get an answer, but they said it was on the trail. day everything will be fine. I was here in October. One Thai woman told me - “Lamai is the most sinful area, that’s why the sea here is like that”.

Surprisingly, this was not noticed on other beaches, although I specifically drove through all of them that day to look at their condition, but it was perfect.

Other beaches and areas of Koh Samui

Traveling around the island without a map, it was very difficult to remember and understand where I am, therefore, the photos that you will see next will not have the names of the beach and area, they were taken somewhere on Samui, but I won’t tell you exactly where it is .

The only thing I want to note is that most of the areas that I haven’t written about are quiet, calm areas, where there is almost nothing except a hotel. Therefore, if you want something secluded, then this is the place for you. But be careful, as most of the beaches here are not suitable for swimming, there are too many corals, rocks and shallows.

You can swim on the beach below, deep sea, long coastline, good sand, almost no hotels, many houses.

Best beach on Koh Samui

To summarize this article, I would like to highlight the best beach on Koh Island Samui in my opinion is Chaweng, beautiful clean sea, a lot of entertainment, there is something to keep yourself busy.

Have you been to Koh Samui? Which beach do you think is the best?
