How to get to Los Angeles. Los Angeles. What is profitable to buy in America

Los Angeles and New York are separated by about 4.5 thousand kilometers. You can overcome this distance in different time and in different ways. How to do right choice and prepare for a journey from the shores of one ocean almost to the shores of another - read our material!

Airplane

Tip 1. Decide on your travel date as early as possible

The earlier you book your ticket, the cheaper it will cost you. And when we say “early,” we mean a period of time from several months to almost a year.

Tip 2: Find the best deal

Search aggregator sites like expedia, orbitz, travelocity, etc. Great deals can often be found after midnight, when airlines update their sites: booked but not paid for tickets become available. Also, if possible, look for tickets not only for a specific date, but also “around it” - there is a high probability that you will come across a good discount on a ticket a few days earlier or later.

Advantage: speed (the flight lasts a little more than 5 hours; if with a transfer, then from 7 to 10).

Price: on average $130-150 (including promotional offers).

It is best to book online - this way you will definitely avoid service costs that may arise if you book by phone or at a sales office. Sometimes it pays to find cheap ticket on the aggregator website, but book it already on the airline’s website.

Tip 3. If there is a possibility of changing the flight date...

If you purchase a ticket in advance, but there is a possibility that the flight date will have to be rescheduled, it is better to book your ticket through the airline's website - they usually charge a lower ticket exchange fee than aggregator sites.

The cost of such a trip, contrary to common sense, is not at all cheaper than a plane flight. But if you like to admire the scenery outside your window, you can try it.

Tip 2. Study all promotions, discounts and other offers on the company’s website

The American national railway company Amtrak takes you from Los Angeles to New York. For example, every week from Tuesday to Friday on its website you can purchase a ticket with a 25% discount on travel over the next two to three weeks. If you're coming to New York as a tourist, want to relax and see, pay attention to all-inclusive "vacation" packages that include not only travel, but also accommodation and entertainment.

Advantage: the opportunity to admire the landscapes and imagine yourself as a traveler in the style of the century before last.

Price: from $230 (excluding promotions and discounts) + food costs.

Think about what you will do during the trip (remember, three days!). Most trains have Wi-Fi, but we still recommend stocking up on books for the trip, taking a player, laptop or tablet with you, downloading a few movies... If you are not traveling in first class, where meals are included in the ticket price, consider what will you eat? Full-fledged lunches and dinners can be ordered on the train, but for an additional fee.

The distance between Los Angeles and New York is about 4.5 thousand kilometers, which equals approximately 43 hours of travel (depending on the chosen route). You can take Interstate 40, which runs from California to North Carolina, or Interstate 80 from San Francisco to New Jersey. In both the first and second cases, you will be able to travel most of the way by highway. On the road, use a map or navigator. If time and purpose of the trip permit, visit nearby attractions along the way, stop by to see Chicago, the Grand Canyon or national park Yosemite. To prepare, you can take advantage of various useful tips for travelers.

Tip 2: Calculate your travel expenses carefully

Remember that travel costs include more than just the cost of gas. This includes, if you rent it, breakfast-lunch-dinner, and toll roads, and accommodation in hotels or motels if there is no one to replace the driver and he needs rest.

Advantage: the opportunity to independently manage your time, visit attractions along the way and enjoy the surrounding landscapes.

Price: expenses for gasoline and food, and also, possibly, for car rental and overnight accommodation.

Tip 3. Remember local peculiarities traffic

Traffic rules in the USA are a separate issue. But generally speaking, the main thing is not to speed too much (no more than 10 mph, local police radars are set to +11), do not leave the car on the side of the highway, and carefully read the signs along the road. The latter will tell you about the speed limit (in miles/hour, remember that) and warn you about the approaching gas station or toll highway.

USA route plan for 10 days

We have prepared for you the following route around the USA for 10 days:

  • Day 1. Arrival in Los Angeles
  • Day 2. Los Angeles - Santa Barbara
  • Day 3. Pacific Highway
  • Day 4. San Francisco
  • Day 5. San Francisco
  • Day 6. Napa Valley - Lake Tahoe
  • Day 7. Lake Tahoe - Yosemite
  • Day 8. Yosemite - Los Angeles
  • Day 9. Los Angeles
  • Day 10. Departure from Los Angeles

We hope you enjoy it and get a lot of positive emotions.

Day 1. Arrival in Los Angeles

So, your plane has landed at an airport that serves more than 60 million tourists a year! Now all that remains is to go through passport control and get your luggage. Since our route involves a lot of transfers, it is, of course, necessary to book a car in advance for the duration of the trip. There are a lot of options.

Getting a car is very easy. Almost all major rental offices provide a free transfer from the airport to the office where registration takes place.

Now that you have received the car, you can go to the hotel to rest from the road and get a good night’s sleep. There are so many interesting things ahead!

Day 2. Los Angeles - Santa Barbara

From Los Angeles to Santa Barbara it takes about 2-3 hours by car. Since almost the entire stretch of the route runs on a perfectly smooth asphalt surface, neither drivers nor passengers will experience discomfort during their exciting tour. At the entrance to the city, picturesque landscapes await you.

There are many impressive villas along the seaside, and it looks like you have found the perfect place to live! Don't miss the opportunity to stroll along the famous pier, after leaving your car in a special area in the marina. We especially recommend that you take a walk along the embankment in the warm season, when there are many tourists and vacationers, and the water surface is full of various vessels - from small boats to luxury yachts. It seems that you find yourself in one of the most popular resort regions planets.

There is good news for those who travel by public transport. So, you can get from Los Angeles to Santa Barbara by train. Thus, you can save a lot on your trip, although this method of travel will require a little more time (at least 3 hours).

But tourists traveling in a rented car should know some of the rules in force in Santa Barbara. For example, drivers do not pay for parking in the city for the first couple of hours. But every next hour of parking will cost 1.5 dollars.

Where to eat and what places to visit

Since the road was exhausting, it is worth thinking about where to have a snack and gain strength for the further journey. Fortunately, you won’t have to search for long, because in Santa Barbara there is a wide network of restaurants and cafes that are ready to surprise all tourists with delicious dishes. The most popular restaurant today remains Bouchon (Victoria St, 9), where guests are offered to enjoy dishes prepared according to the recipes of French chefs, but using their own technology and style. The home-style design, thought out to the smallest detail, encourages a comfortable time spent, and loyal prices can surprise even the most fastidious customers.

You can visit another famous place called Cafe Stella, which is located at 3302 Mc Caw Ave. They also serve excellent French cuisine, but there is also an impressive menu for lovers of American snacks.

When you get to the restaurants, pay attention to the imported goods store, which is located at the very beginning of State Street. This is where you can buy a lot of necessary and useful goods at very modest prices.

Don't forget that Santa Barbara is one of the centers of American winemaking. We recommend that all connoisseurs of the grape drink include in their itinerary a visit to the nearby towns of Los Olivos and Santa Ainez, where the legendary Merlot wine was created. It was this drink that allowed California to take an honorable fourth place among wine-growing regions, second only to the best grape plantations in France, Italy and Spain.

You can book a comprehensive excursion separately. A tour that includes visits to 3-4 wineries for several hours will cost tourists only $70. But often this price does not include wine tasting and lunch, so check in advance. If you decide to stop by the tasting rooms during your tour, be sure to bring a snack with you in advance.

Places for rest

If you have time and want to spend a little time in nature, we recommend taking a closer look at the large beach Santa Barbara. Here you can not only enjoy warm sea water and golden sand, but also have fun on water vehicles, ride on a luxury yacht or try yourself as a surfer.

But the American town is not famous for its beaches alone. For example, you can have a great picnic in the Botanical Garden, and lovers of walking excursions and extreme sports will be able to test their strength and try on the mask of a discoverer of distant lands while conquering Rattlesnake Canyon. Amazing emotions await every visitor to Franceschi Park, which presents the best achievements of Californian breeders.

Lovers of one of the most stunning flowers on the planet – orchids – will also find something to keep themselves busy. In Carpinteria's huge flower garden, tourists can enjoy the aroma and beauty of different types this flower.

Entertainment and attractions

The range of local attractions and entertainment industry facilities is also impressive. In particular, we recommend visiting the missionary church, which was founded by Spanish colonialists in the 18th century and today is a small museum.

The district court building is also interesting from an architectural point of view, which occupies a huge area of the entire block! It is made in the Moorish style.

Don't miss the Santa Barbara History Museum, which is free to enter. It is here that you can learn the history of the founding and development of an American town, get acquainted with bright and unique works and rare antiques.

Zoology lovers are advised to take the time to pay a visit to the halls of the Natural History Museum, the exhibition of which includes over three million specimens of birds, insects, mammals and other representatives of the fauna that inhabit or previously inhabited California. You can get to the collection halls any day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., except weekends and holidays.

No less interesting and educational will be a visit to the Gladwin Planetarium, where you will be invited to take an exciting journey through air and water. In a matter of seconds, you will virtually cover millions of kilometers, and the most distant stars will seem to be within touching distance.

Day 3. Pacific Highway

Although many of us have the impression from American films that America is densely populated megacities, business centers that give way to slums and yellow taxis, there is another side to the coin. To see the pristine beauty of the continent, it is worth taking a trip along the Pacific Highway at least once, which enchants with its amazing landscapes. It’s not for nothing that this particular road is recognized as the most beautiful in the USA.

Surprisingly, it can take a whole day to drive the 400-kilometer highway! And all because behind every bend of the road surface new amazing landscapes are hidden, and to enjoy them to the fullest, you will have to constantly stop. The impressions of a trip in a convertible will be especially vivid. By the way, tourists do not need any special driving skills at all, because the traffic here is calm and unhurried.

If you travel early in the morning, be prepared for the fact that there may be fog on some sections of the road. The fog can be so thick that you get the impression that you are driving through the clouds or even find yourself somewhere among the mountains of Scotland.

We suggest making your first stop in the small town of Morro Bay, which is located directly on the coast. Tourists are always welcome here, because this is the main source of income for the town. You can have a good meal in local cafes, where fresh seafood dishes predominate. There is always fresh fish on sale.

As for the attractions, the most striking of them is the extinct volcano crater 177 meters high, which is located directly in the bay. Interestingly, since 1966 the volcano has been recognized as a historical heritage of California, and before that, stones from its slopes were used in construction.

Well, we suggest you rest before continuing your journey at gorgeous beach Morro Bay. In addition to the standard lying on sandy shore, tourists will be able to enjoy riding the waves on a board. If you don't love large cluster people, we advise you to go to the coast in one of your favorite places.

To make it easier to navigate the road, information signs and plaques are installed along the highway. For example, the Vista Point sign means that there is an observation deck nearby where drivers can take a break from driving and enjoy amazing views of the ocean. Similarly, you can stop at one place to organize a picnic. Each such rest stop is equipped with tables.

Next we will find the town of San Simeon, near which there is an elephant seal rookery. You can watch these clumsy animals on land for hours. If you want to see babies, we recommend visiting these places in winter and early spring.

If you decide to stay at one of the Pacific Highway hotels, we recommend choosing the Ragged Point Inn, whose history dates back to the distant 50s of the last century. Was originally here Gas station and with a two-room motel. But with the increase in the number of tourists, the hotel gradually expanded and today includes 39 rooms of varying levels of comfort. The windows offer stunning views of the ocean.

The hotel has everything you need for comfortable rest: souvenir shops, cafes, snack bars and trays with delicious ice cream. Elephant seal beach is nearby.

This is where you can quickly restore your strength. You will need them, because many different impressions and unforgettable adventures await you ahead. The Pacific Highway will give every tourist an unforgettable experience and a lot of emotions.

Day 4. San Francisco

On the fourth day of an exciting journey, the road brought us to San Francisco - a city that is in no way inferior in popularity among tourists to such diamonds of the American continent as New York, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. Don't put off getting to know the sights. A two-day stopover in San Francisco is exactly what you need active tourists who like to organize forays at the most interesting places planets.

Let's park...

Since our main route will be on foot, we need to take care of parking the car. On weekdays in the city center, finding a parking space is much more difficult than on weekends, and this must be taken into account. In addition, you won’t have to pay for a car parked on Saturday or Sunday, which is very nice.

If you find yourself in the city on a weekday, we recommend leaving your car in the underground parking lot, although the prices for services there are slightly higher. But you won’t have to worry about the safety of the car, and you won’t have to periodically move it. Parking cost per day starts from $20. And here free place on the street at the parking meter it will cost approximately $2 per hour, and after 2-4 hours, depending on the area, the car will need to be moved.

Embankment

When the car is attached, the first thing every tourist should see is the embankment. That's where we'll go.

The pier itself is one of the city's most striking attractions. There are dozens of shops and shops, popular restaurants and cafes that serve delicious seafood dishes, and a huge aquarium. Hundreds of yachts and small boats are moored off the coast, swaying on the waves to the tune of local musicians.

Sinister Prison

Visit this amazing city and not visiting the most sinister and impregnable prison on the American continent is a real crime. Initially, the small island was intended for protection; a military fortress was located on it. Well, when the need to maintain fortification redoubts disappeared, an impregnable prison was founded on the island, where the most notorious criminals of all times and peoples served their sentences.

You can get to the island for an excursion from Pier 33. Ticket prices for an adult tourist start at $30 (for night tours - $37), and for young visitors the price is almost half as much. Since the attraction is very popular, we recommend booking tickets at least a couple of weeks before your visit. Don't forget to bring food, as there is nowhere to eat on the island, and the excursion will take at least 2-3 hours.

Aquarium

Do you love sea creatures and have a weakness for the underwater world? Then we definitely recommend visiting another local attraction – a huge aquarium. It is located on Pier 39 and will definitely appeal to both adults and their children. You will need to pay $13-23 for entry (depending on the age of the visitor). But please note that the price does not include visits to popular 3D shows and other entertainment, which are paid separately.

The doors of the entertainment complex are open daily from 9 to 20 hours (in summer) and from 10 to 18 hours (in winter). All other details and rules can be found through the official website.

Pier 39

Well, when you have thoroughly enjoyed the contemplation of stingrays, fish and other representatives of the sea underwater world, we recommend taking a walk along Pier 39, where you will find many souvenir shops and restaurants with surprisingly tasty menus. But you shouldn’t plan your trip in the morning, because most of the shops and cafes located on Pier 39 open no earlier than 10 a.m.

By the way, we recommend you try it local dish Clam chowder, which when translated into the native language sounds like “bloody stew.” But you need to know where to buy this stew. If you guess right, your taste buds will be incredibly grateful.

But what most attracts the attention of visitors at Pier 39 are the dozens of sea lions who enjoy sunbathing in the sun. They have long ceased to be afraid of the noise of yacht engines and happily pose in front of tourists’ cameras. By the way, nearby there is a museum dedicated to these clumsy animals, where you can look at their skeletons.

Submarine and park

At the end of the first day of your stay in San Francisco, we recommend postponing a visit to two more attractions - the Pampanito submarine and the maritime historical park.

The Pampanito boat took part in the hostilities of the 40s of the last century, but today it is on a well-deserved rest and is a real museum exhibit. You can find a rare specimen at Pier 45. The price of a visit is 9-15 dollars, the museum doors are open daily from 9 am.

Well, in the western part of Fisherman’s Wharf all admirers maritime history A huge park awaits. The Museum of Maritime History deserves special attention here. Here you will find many interesting exhibitions and rare objects from different historical eras. Although the majority of visitors to the park spend their time contemplating the water surface and having picnics. It looks like this is exactly how the first day of exploring this fascinating American city should end...

Where to stay in San Francisco? Here are some great options:

Day 5. San Francisco

On the second day of walking around San Francisco, an equally exciting program awaits us. We will try to have time to visit all those attractions that were undeservedly ignored during the walks of the previous day. Today we will also make several walking excursions to different areas of the city. In order not to waste time moving around the city, we will use public transport, leaving the car in the parking lot.

Richmond

The first place to visit on our list is the Richmond area. The area itself does not stand out among others, but it is very suitable for taking a look at the peculiarities of life and everyday life of Americans.

Among the houses of the same type with a standard layout, there are many original buildings that can tell a lot about their owners. In addition, it is in this part that the largest Russian-speaking community lives, and you can also meet a lot of representatives of the Chinese people.

"Edge of the Earth"

What is this place like? Located in the north-west of the city, the trail allows you to experience the most vivid impressions in the life of every tourist! It offers breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, the Golden Gate Bridge and the bay. Agree, you can enjoy such a landscape for hours. It is for this, and also for the opportunity to take some unique photographs, that we have come such a long and difficult path!

Well, in addition to the picturesque area, tourists get the opportunity to take a break from the bustle of the city and sit in the shade of dense cypress trees. Fresh sea air will be the best relaxing remedy, and wisely taking sandwiches with you will allow you to organize the most unforgettable picnic in nature.

Legion of Honor Museum

But that’s not all that awaited us in this amazing place. There is another one very close interesting museum– Legion of Honor, which managed to collect an impressive collection of exhibits of European art. Initially, the institution was dedicated to the victims of the First World War, but later the exhibition was significantly expanded to include other rare objects, works of art and artifacts.

The museum is located on 34th Avenue. The ticket price for adult visitors is $10, teenagers can get in for just $6, and children under 12 years of age enjoy free admission. In addition, every first Tuesday of the month, admission to the museum is free for all categories of visitors. The museum doors open at 9:30 a.m. and welcome tourists until closing at 5:15 p.m. In addition, there are special days when admission to the museum is free or discounted. Check this information on the official website.

Satro-Bats

To the south of the scenic trail is another amazing attraction - the ruins of the huge Satro-Baths pool, which for many years delighted all residents. For those who don’t know, the pool was built by billionaire Adolf Satro, making a kind of gift for his fellow countrymen. Surprisingly, in addition to the standard purpose of the pool (used as a public bath), he planned to create a place to educate visitors, where everyone could enjoy works of art.

The pool is located north of Ocean Beach. If you decide to visit this place, we recommend checking out the Cliff House Cafe, which serves excellent seafood dishes.

The place itself has been a popular resort for the rich, it was often possible to see top officials of the state and millionaires here. Therefore, in the mentioned restaurant you will definitely find an unusual reception in addition to which you will be able to enjoy beautiful view to the ocean from the window.

Be prepared that prices here are not the lowest. The average cost of a modest lunch will be $30-40. It is possible to reserve seats through the website.

Heading to Golden Gate Park

Since we then headed for Golden Gate Park, our route ran along 32nd Avenue through the Sea Cliff area, which, judging by the luxurious mansions, is another popular place for wealthy Americans to live in. Many famous personalities lived here, including the famous photographer Ansel Adams, whose photo reports about Yosemite Park gained worldwide fame.

It will take more than one hour to enjoy the unique park. hiking. This is the third most popular park among Americans, so it is never empty.

The vast territory contains not only the largest in San Francisco park area. Here you can find a lot of different attractions, including museums, lakes, stadiums, and several gardens.

Anyone can enter the park complex. You won’t have to pay for this, but when visiting attractions and sites, be prepared for additional costs. The park has ten compact lakes, on the shores of which you can have fun. The most popular among visitors is the Stow Lake reservoir.

Don't forget to check out the two gardens - the botanical garden and the rose garden. Here, all florists and simply lovers of beautiful flowers will be able to unwind and enjoy a variety of compositions and rare plants. Entrance to the rose garden is free, but there is a fee for visiting botanical garden you will have to pay 5-7 dollars.

For $8 you can find yourself in a Japanese garden. Here visitors can take part in a tea ceremony, buy unusual souvenirs and just relax.

Day 6. Napa Valley - Lake Tahoe

We continue our exciting journey across America. Today the road led us to no less striking sights, acquaintance with which can give a lot of vivid and unforgettable impressions. We are waiting for the Napa Valley, which is famous for its wine-making achievements and one of the most beautiful bodies of water in this part of the American continent - Lake Tahoe. You can be sure: the excursion will be exciting and eventful!

Napa Valley

In the vastness of California lies the amazing, picturesque and unique Napa Valley. This is one of the most famous wine-growing regions of the country, which includes no less than 14 thousand hectares of vineyards, the fruits of which can barely be processed by several dozen wineries. And if earlier the result of their work could be assessed at best restaurants world, today we will have a unique chance to personally see and even participate in the process of harvesting and processing grapes.

It’s not for nothing that the Napa Valley is called Little Italy: here, as if every piece of land is saturated with the Italian spirit and aroma of a sparkling drink. You can find a unique place for America in the northern part of San Francisco near San Pablo Bay. It is worth noting that the valley includes several cities and districts, each of which is famous for its unique taste of wine drink and recipes that are passed down from generation to generation.

The valley owes its excellent conditions for winemaking to the fertile lands that appeared as a result of the abundant discharge of volcanic ash that happened millions of years ago. But this is not all that nature has given it amazing place. Unique natural attractions opened before our eyes - a “petrified forest” and an impressive geyser.

Attractions

To get to the petrified forest, you have to overcome an easy path along Highway 121, and later along Sonoma Hwy. You won’t be bored along the entire route - the road runs along grape strips, where each plant has a unique, and sometimes bizarre, shape.

“Petrified forest” represents the remains of huge trees that, as a result of a volcanic explosion, were buried under a layer of lava, ash, and then remained in water for many thousands of years. In the process of a chemical reaction, the remains of the wood were saturated with silicon and turned into real stone. When an expedition of researchers excavated in 1870, petrified trees were discovered that today attract tourists from all over the American continent. Many specimens are so well preserved that it seems as if they were hand-hewn from a single piece of rock.

If you want to walk among the petrified giants on your own, you will have to pay only $10, but visiting the attraction with a guide will cost a little more – $16.

Geyser

Next, our path runs to the geyser in Calistoga. It is worth noting that this natural phenomenon is located in the middle of a field. Since you can expect an exciting show in the form of the release of a huge jet of water and steam for more than one hour, the Americans decided to equip a special observation deck and create a simple infrastructure. Now you can wait for the geyser to erupt in comfort, for which, by the way, you will have to pay 18 bucks.

In particular, the entire area around the natural phenomenon is equipped with tables where tourists enjoy sandwiches and other snacks. For those who have already had a snack, they suggest taking a walk to the paddock with goats, sheep and llamas, as well as visiting shops and souvenir shops.

The geyser erupts on schedule - once every 30 minutes. Only a small earthquake can change this order, which is not so common in this area. A powerful stream of water is ejected to a height of up to 8 meters, after which, in the form of a heavy downpour, it enters the lake located around the geyser with reddish water (due to the high iron content).

Lock

Another attraction of the valley is the medieval style Castello castle di Amorosa. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to fully enjoy its beauty. This is due to the fact that there is always a huge crowd of visitors here. Therefore, when planning your tour of Napa Valley, it is better to choose weekdays.

To gain access to all rooms of the castle, you will have to purchase a paid tour. Well, as a reward for waiting in queues, everyone can taste the best varieties of wine aged for many years. So, for a standard fee you will be offered to evaluate the taste and aroma of five brands of grape drink to choose from. But true connoisseurs of the drink will get access to the elite Reserve wine collection for just $10. Well, if you are traveling with children, they can take part in tasting grape juice.

There is an opportunity to buy a bottle or two of the wine you like, which, according to the owners, is no longer sold anywhere in the world.

Lake Tahoe

Having taken a break from adventures in the Napa Valley, we set course for the coast of Lake Tahoe. We managed to find the most beautiful body of water in America on the border of two states - Nevada and California. This place is especially popular among tourists who want to combine outdoor recreation with the opportunity to try their luck in gambling establishments in Nevada, where gambling is legal.

You can stay in one of the hotels located on the shore, or, if finances allow, rent a separate “living room” (a house for living). The lake is no more than a five-minute walk, and the rooms offer stunning views of the pond. Tennis courts are available for entertainment, and you can swim at one of several beaches. The bottom of the lake is covered with sand, the entrance is flat, allowing children to swim. It is worth noting the crystal purity of the water, which captivates with its bluish tint. But be prepared for the fact that even in summer the water temperature does not rise above 20 degrees.

One of the downsides is housing prices. You will have to pay at least 300 bucks per day for a budget hotel room, and renting houses will cost many times more.

Day 7. Lake Tahoe - Yosemite

Having thoroughly enjoyed the beauty of Lake Tahoe, we decided to continue our journey and stop for a while in one more picturesque place center of the USA - Yosemite National Park. The journey is long - approximately 200-300 km along highways, but given the quality of the local highways, you won’t even notice how you find yourself in this “house of wildlife”.

By the way, if you plan to visit not only this natural Park, but also make a short stop in other national parks, then we advise you to purchase a subscription that will allow you to fulfill your dream, avoiding queues and the need to waste time searching ticket office. According to the standard scheme, a visit to Yosemite Park will cost approximately $30 per car. But for a subscription that gives access to many national parks, you only have to pay 80 bucks!

And one more important point: in order to plan your route around the park in advance, we recommend purchasing booklets with maps on which hiking trails (that is, walking trails and paths) are marked, which contain information about the level of difficulty of the route, its duration and distance.

Yosemite is considered one of the very first nature reserves in the United States. Even today, caring Americans have managed to preserve 95% of the park in its original, that is, wild, form. Today, the fauna of the park consists of almost 400 species of animals, among which tourists can meet deer, black bear, lynx, squirrels, etc.

You should plan a trip to Yosemite at the end or beginning of summer, but it is better to postpone your visit until the fall. Since the equator of the summer months is famous for its consistently high temperatures and aridity, not every tourist can endure such a harsh climate. At the same time, winter in these places is mild and it is in the winter months that the most precipitation occurs.

From practical information, which will be useful to every tourist, it is also worth noting the park’s opening hours. Its doors are open around the clock, so you can get here at any time of the year. Of course, if you plan to see the park in winter, be prepared for the fact that some routes may not be accessible due to weather conditions. But in general, nothing can stop you from enjoying amazing nature this corner of the USA.

So, as soon as you are near the doors of the park, you need to make a route and mark the places you plan to visit. If this is your first time here, you can trust the taste preferences of other tourists and head to the park’s valley of the same name. Although it occupies only 1% of the park's territory, these are the places where most tourists go. The El Capitan rock is especially popular, on the steep side of which you can always spot professional and novice climbers. The height of the hill is 2307 meters, so it can be seen from anywhere in the valley.

If you are looking for something special, we recommend paying attention to other natural attractions of the park: the wonderful Tuolomne Meadows, the awe-inspiring Clark Mountain Outcrops, Kuna Ridge and Dana Lagoon. One of the most interesting routes are Sierra Crest, Pacific Crest.

Don't underestimate the thrill of a trip to the groves of huge redwoods, which seem to have been among the first inhabitants of this picturesque area. The trees are divided into groups and consist of 20, 25, 250 individuals. It is rightfully believed that sequoiadendron (this is the species that grows in the park) is one of the tallest and most durable plants on our planet. Photos against the backdrop of these giants, who are living witnesses to many natural disasters and political events in the United States, will become worthy exhibits in your personal collection of photographs.

In addition, there are many other natural sites that we strongly recommend including in the excursion program:

  • waterfalls - Yosemite, Snow Creek, Wapama, Bridleveil; - Glacier Point observation deck;
  • a road with many lakes located along its shores - Tioga Road;
  • one of the most beautiful lakes park - Hetch Hetchy.

What else can you do in the park?

In addition to excursions in the park, you have the opportunity to ride a horse, show your best sides as a fisherman, go on a picnic and spend it in the most picturesque place that you choose yourself, learn mountaineering skills, swim in the purest water sources, master rafting, snowboarding or skis.

How to get around

To make it easier to move between attractions, tourists are offered trips not only by car, but also by regular buses, which travel every 20-30 minutes. But these routes are designed only for morning and evening (from 7 to 10 o'clock). Well, for those who are not afraid of difficulties, there are hiking trails.

Important nuances

Because Yosemite is dominated by wild nature, tourists often encounter bears and other representatives of the animal world that they should be wary of. There are also some of the most persistent insects here - mosquitoes, which can be gotten rid of with the help of special sprays or ointments.

If you decide to spend the night, choose only specially designated places marked with signs. If you prefer to travel and explore nature in comfort, pay attention to hotels and small houses for accommodation.

Day 8. Yosemite - Los Angeles

Moving back to Los Angeles

Day 9. Los Angeles

If Washington is the political and administrative capital of the United States, then Los Angeles can safely be called the cultural and cinematic capital of America. Many of those who come to the famous “city of angels” for the first time experience an emotional shock from what they see: the brilliance, luxury and beauty are blinding. Already from the airplane window you can see a panorama of the majestic metropolis, proudly stretching along the shores of the mighty ocean. The compact group of skyscraper candles easily identifies the city center, around which lie picturesque areas with world-famous landmarks, mansions and villas of the rich and famous.

The second largest city in the United States owes its birth to Spanish settlers, who gave it its name in honor of the Virgin Mary, the Queen of Angels. From a rather long phrase in Spanish, a short phrase has stuck - Los Angeles. Anyone who is unfamiliar with it is well aware of another magic word - Hollywood - the most powerful film factory in the world, from which it is worth starting sightseeing in this amazing city.

The film industry powerhouse Hollywood is located in the northwestern part of Los Angeles (California). Its name, minted from metal in huge letters (9 m high, 15 m wide) and placed on the slope of Maunti (Hollywood Hills), can be seen from afar day and night (each letter has 4 thousand light bulbs). Famous film studios create their masterpieces in Hollywood, popular and beloved Hollywood actors live and work.

Walk of Fame

Having arrived in this area, start your journey with the symbolic Hollywood Walk of Fame, located on Boulevard Hollywood, where on both sides of the boulevard on the sidewalks you can see the footprints and palm prints, autographs and personal stars of various celebrities of cinema, theater, science and art. A most interesting sight awaits you: using the stars under your feet to look for familiar names. Only Ali Mohammed's name and star are imprinted on the wall of the Dolbi Theater (for the late boxer's religious reasons).

Grauman's Chinese Theater

When you find yourself in the center of the Walk of Fame, you will be greeted by Grauman's Chinese Theater. An exotic building in the form of a Chinese pagoda, the entrance to which is guarded by a huge dragon and 2 watchdog, will immediately attract your attention. This is an operating theater with 1,162 seats, where premieres of new films take place, where the imprints of world-famous movie stars are forever left on the pavement. Ticket price is $17.

Kodak Theater

It is impossible to pass indifferently past a sacred place for filmmakers - the Kodak Theater (now the Dolby Theater), where the Oscar Awards are annually presented to brilliant movie stars. The impressions from his visit are stunning! It is located next to the Chinese at 6801 Hollywood BoulevardHollywood, CA. The entrance is free.

Griffith Observatory

Now you should drive closer to Mount Hollywood, on southern slope which houses the famous Griffith Observatory, built at the expense of a romantic colonel in 1908. It can be called social, not scientific, because Griffith wanted everyone to be able to see the fairy tale of the starry sky and become a better person.

Indescribable pleasure will be brought not only by the spectacle presented by the lens of a large telescope, but also by an overview of the magnificent surroundings of Los Angeles, the majestic Hollywood sign with observation deck adjacent to the observatory of the park of the same name.

Universal Studios Hollywood

Being in Hollywood and not visiting the famous film studio is unforgivable; We recommend visiting the existing Universal Studios Hollywood, which is unofficially called the “entertainment capital” of Los Angeles - the dream of many. To avoid queuing for tickets, you can buy them online in advance.

Here you will plunge into a sea of exciting attractions such as Harry Potter and the Forbidden Adventure, Fast and the Furious, The Mummy and theatrical shows based on the plots of popular films, which are included in the sightseeing tour program.

The cost of tickets for attractions and shows for 1 day when purchased online is $11-26; at the box office – from 88 to 103 $: depending on the time of year and day of the week.

Beverly Hills

Is it possible to ignore fashionable area Beverly Hills is a paradise of the rich and famous, where luxury shops, prestigious homes of Hollywood stars and the powers that be are concentrated (Sunset Strip). There are many luxury spas, nightclubs, museums, and parks.

An incredibly popular place, not inferior in popularity to the Parisian Champs Elysees, Rodeo Drive is a street of expensive shopping, exquisite boutiques, the famous surgical plastic clinic of the same name and elite visitors with a touch of sophisticated luxury.

Memorial Coliseum Stadium

How not to visit the grandiose sports facility erected back in 1923 - the Memorial Coliseum stadium, familiar to Russian viewers from the film “The Last Boy Scout”. The legendary stadium, accommodating almost 100 thousand fans, hosted 2 Summer Olympics - 1932 and 1984. Various celebrations and concerts are held here, and a student team plays American football.

Its design lives up to its name: majestic main entrance, bronze athletes on a pedestal, high arched vaults around the perimeter and high stands - reminiscent of the Roman Colosseum. After the 1984 Olympics, the stadium, built in honor of World War I veterans, received the status of a “National Historical Monument.”

Address: 3911 South Fiqueroa Street Los Anqueles, CA 90037, USA

Prices for football matches vary by location. Touring the stadium is free.

Downtown

But Los Angeles is not only about entertainment and shopping; there is a business center called Downtown, where dozens of offices and business offices are located in skyscrapers, where financial passions are in full swing, and economic issues and problems are resolved. On weekdays, you can see a line of white-collar office workers here, busily scurrying from office to office. The picture is completely different in Downtown on weekends: the neighborhoods become deserted. Film producers actively use this situation when filming street scenes for their films, and you may be lucky enough to see one of the Hollywood celebrities at such moments.

Ethnic neighborhoods

If you want to see the East Asian flavor in Los Angeles, then from Downtown you can simply get to the neighborhoods (they are next door) where the Chinese, Koreans, Thais, Japanese, and Armenians live. Each of the quarters is marked with ethnic symbols: here you can see the Golden Pagoda, Buddhist temple, East Gate, Japanese garden, located on the roof of the hotel.

You will have the opportunity to walk along a street decorated with red lanterns and taste spicy, pepper-sizzling Thai or Korean dishes. The Chinese Chinatown will amaze with its bright colors, and the Armenian Bruce with the gray austerity of its architecture.

Walt Disney Concert Hall

A true joy will be visiting the Walt Disney Concert Hall - extraordinary beautiful building abstract-futuristic style, a real masterpiece modern architecture. Heirs of the famous creator magical land animation spent $50 million on construction to perpetuate the memory of Disney in a unique building.

This is the best concert hall, superior in acoustics to all famous venues in the world. Inside, the walls, ceiling, and spectator seats are decorated with expensive, high-quality wood. An organ made of more than 6,100 pipes was installed, the purity and power of its sound is mesmerizing. And from the outside, the building resembles a space object, dazzlingly sparkling under the sun: this appearance is given to it by asymmetrically curved steel configurations.

This amazing structure seems to come straight out of a Disney movie, it looks so fantastic.

Address: 111 S Grand Ale Los Andqueles, CA 90012.

Open: Tuesday-Sun. 12.00-18.00, closed – Monday

Admission for inspection is free.

Angles Flight Funicular

You can't help but take a ride on the oldest (1901) funicular, Angles Flight - a unique business card cities. Over the 50 years of operation of the funicular, more than 100 million people have traveled on it. This is the shortest railway in the world (91 m), recently completely restored, and is very popular among citizens and tourists.

Residents raised $3.5 million for the reconstruction of their favorite landmark. From the wooden retro cars you can see the tallest skyscraper in California - the US Bank Tower, on the roof of which there is a helipad.

While buses serve almost all areas of the city, the same cannot be said about the metro. In addition, you should always check the bus schedule, as not all of them run until late. Both subways and buses are operated by the MTA (Metropolitan Transportation Authority).

Every day, about 1.7 million passengers use city transport. Los Angeles is connected to the outside world by bus service, Train Station Union Station sea port in San Pedro Bay and five commercial airports. Our material will help you understand this diversity. "Transportation in Los Angeles".

Los Angeles Photos

Districts

Los Angeles can hardly be called a compact city; rather, on the contrary, its enormous size can amaze even residents of other megacities. It does not have a clear layout and was built spontaneously. In addition, its characteristic feature is that it is low-rise - many residents live in private houses. The city's territory includes dozens of scattered areas located both on the plains and foothills, and off the coast of the Pacific Ocean. It also includes several neighboring independent towns, including Beverly Hills and Culver City. The city is divided into two parts by the low Santa Monica Mountain Range and contains more than 80 neighborhoods. The main ones:

  • Central Los Angeles - Downtown
  • West Los Angeles - Westside
  • Hollywood
  • Wilshire and Mid-Wildshire
  • East Los Angeles
  • South Los Angeles
  • South Bay and Harbor
  • San Fernando Valley

Downtown

Downtown Los Angeles is radically different from most other cities. There are no attractive sights here, only tall skyscrapers. Downtown is more of a business center of the city, where the offices of local and international companies are concentrated. However, there are also interesting areas for tourists, such as Chinatown and Little Tokyo. In addition, Downtown is located Concert hall Walt Disney. The oldest part The city is the historical district of Pueblo de Los Angeles, where the most famous and visited place is Olvera Street. Geographically, Downtown is located 19 km east of the ocean and is surrounded by four expressways. A civic center with government buildings and offices is also located here. The most popular high-rise buildings in the area are the Bonaventure Hotel and the Arco skyscraper. Due to the fact that Downtown is more of an office area, all the streets are empty after 18.00 and on weekends. Although recently residential buildings have also appeared here. Some neighborhoods, known as Skid Row, are best avoided during the daytime, as they are filled with homeless people. Neighborhood boundaries: east of San Pedro Street, west of Central Avenue, south of 3rd Street and north of 7th Street.

Westside

West Los Angeles, better known as the Westside, is located between the coastal areas and Hollywood. Some of the city's most prestigious neighborhoods are located on the West Side. These include West Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Brentwood and Century City.

West Hollywood connects Beverly Hills with Hollywood. The area is full of fashionable shops, restaurants and clubs and is considered good place for walks. Particularly popular is the Sunset Strip, located on a section of Sunset Boulevard. West Hollywood is also a magnet for art gallery lovers. In the east of the district there is a Russian quarter - right next to the gay district.

Everyone knows the luxurious look Beverly Hills with its picturesque palaces, expensive shops and tall palm trees lining the streets. This is a unique area where tourists come to look at the houses of celebrities (which you still have to manage to see) and, if you’re lucky, to see them. Many popular actors live here. The main shopping area of the area is Rodeo Drive. Just south of Beverly Hills is the Museum of Tolerance.

In the hills west of Beverly Hills there is an equally luxurious area - Bel Air . Only the rich live there famous people, preferring peace and quiet. The area is of little interest to tourists.

Brentwood located near the southern border of the Santa Monica Mountains. This is an urbanized area for the rich and people with above-average income. A notable attraction in the area is the magnificent museum, the Getty Center. This huge complex, containing one of the finest art and historical collections in the world.

Century City is both a residential and commercial area. Many shopping centers, company offices and high-rise buildings are located here.

Hollywood

Hollywood has always been and remains the most attractive place in Los Angeles. Tourists from all over the world come here in hopes of meeting a celebrity, walking along the Walk of Fame on Hollywood Boulevard, visiting one of the film studios, or going to the Kodak Theater, where the modern Academy Awards ceremony takes place. Many Hollywood neighborhoods and landmarks can be seen in abundance in films filmed here. For example, Collector Bookstore, Melrose Avenue, Griffith Park, Hollywood Bowl or Hollywood Vax Museums, etc.

Geographically, Hollywood is located northwest of Downtown and borders such famous neighborhoods as Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Glendale, Burbank, as well as the longest street in Los Angeles, Mulholland Drive.

Modern Hollywood is associated not only with the film industry, but also with the entertainment industry. Moreover, many film studios are located not in Hollywood itself, but in its surroundings, while nightlife is in full swing here. Recent redevelopment has added even more fashionable bars, restaurants, hotels, nightclubs and shopping centers, thus cementing Hollywood's status as the center of nightlife.

Wilshire and Mid-Wilshire

West of Downtown and south of Hollywood is the Wilshire neighborhood. This area consists of many small areas where people of different incomes live. The central and most significant part of Wilshire is called Mid-Wilshire. Locals call this area Mid-City, which means "Middle City" in English. And, indeed, Mid-Wilshire is the middle of all the most interesting things, the central place between the “stars” of Hollywood and the skyscrapers of Downtown. Concentrated here best museums Los Angeles, including the Petersen Automotive Museum, Art Museum Los Angeles LACMA, etc. Wilshire Boulevard, or as it is also called “Miracle Mile,” deserves special attention. This is the most famous shopping district in the city, full of representative shops, restaurants and nightclubs. The area also features top-notch farmers' markets and traditional American malls.

East Los Angeles

To the east of Downtown and the Los Angeles River lies the East Los Angeles/Eastside area and its surrounding suburbs. The majority of the area's residents are Hispanic, although there are also residents of other ethnic groups. For example, in the northern part of Montecito Heights there are French-Italian diasporas. Other parts of the area have residents of Asian descent, particularly those from the Philippines. As such, East Los Angeles is considered one of the city's most diverse neighborhoods. But still, first of all, this main center Hispanic population and culture in the region. Particularly noteworthy is the local Walk of Fame (Latino Walk of Fame), which is akin to Hollywood, but with an emphasis on celebrities of Latin American origin.

South Los Angeles

South of Downtown is a large area of the city now known as South Los Angeles. In the past, this area was better known as South Central due to crime and big amount street gangs. It was South Central, along with Mid-City, that was the center of large-scale race riots in 1992. The current name appeared in 2003 in order to eliminate the reputation that had become entrenched in the area.

South Central has been mentioned more than once in American films. These include the detective story “Colors” (1988), the crime drama “The Boys Next Door” (1991), and the comedy “Don’t Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Juice on Your Block” (1996) and some other films.

South Los Angeles includes 28 neighborhoods. The most interesting of them is Exposition Park. The area is home to the University of Southern California, several major museums and sports arenas. However, in general, these areas are not only of no interest to tourists, but also simply dangerous.

Korea town

Koreatown, or K-town as locals call it, is one of the most striking examples of Los Angeles' ethnic neighborhoods. It is home to more than 120,000 residents, many of whom come from East Asia. Geographically, the area is located in the city center, between Downtown and Hollywood.

The bulk of immigrants from Korea began to arrive in large numbers in the United States after entry restrictions were eased. This happened in the second half of the 1960s. Today, the area is dominated by Hispanic and Mexican populations. The second largest population is occupied by Koreans. There are quite a few residents of African American descent. More than half the area's population was born outside of America. Thus, we can say that K-town is a multicultural area. Here you can hear Spanish spoken in a Korean store and vice versa. However, some places and establishments are only open to Koreans.

Koreatown has the largest number of nightlife spots in Los Angeles. There are approximately 500 nightclubs in the area. Night life Korea Town attracts not only local residents, but also city guests. Also concentrated here great amount restaurants, karaoke bars, hookah studios, salons and shops.

In part, the area resembles a smaller version of Seoul. There are many signs and signs in Korean around. Despite the California ban on smoking in public places and indoors, residents of Koreatown smoke everywhere, even under the “No smoking” sign. Owners of local restaurants and clubs simply turn a blind eye to this. It is also a violation to sell alcohol after 2 am, but this law is often ignored here.

The menus in Koreatown restaurants are varied. If you wish, here you can taste Mexican tacos, Korean barbecue, various types of pizza, American fast food, Vietnamese noodles and other world dishes.

South Bay and Harbor

South Bay Bay and Harbor and its surrounding regions are located in the southwest peninsula of Los Angeles County. This name is associated with geographical features region. South Bay, which means "southern bay", stretches along south coast Santa Monica Bay, covering coastal areas south of Los Angeles. The South Bay includes resort towns such as Redondo Beach, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Palos Verdes Peninsula, City Harbor, San Pedro and Wilmington, El Segundo and some inland bay cities such as Hawthorne, Inglewood , Carson, Lawndale. The area is bordered on the north by the West Side and on the northeast by South Los Angeles. Freeways 110, 405 and 105 provide the main traffic in this part of the city. Several ports and harbors in South Bay provide access to Santa Catalina Island, which is a popular resort.

Combined with the Port of Long Beach, the Port of Los Angeles at San Pedro is considered one of the busiest ports in the world. Unfortunately, the increase in cargo volumes has led to significant air pollution in this and surrounding areas. Another important industry in the region is the aerospace industry. This industry employs thousands of people with high qualifications and salaries. The oil refining industry is another important component of the South Bay economy. The main oil refining companies in the South Bay are Chevron, Exxon Mobile, BP, Tesoro and several others. The headquarters of Japanese automobile companies Toyota and Honda are also located here.

San Fernando Valley

The San Fernando Valley, or simply “The Valley,” is a sprawling suburb in northern Los Angeles that is home to nearly half the city's population, a combined 40%. The population of the valley is more than 1.5 million people. The area consists of many parts with diverse socio-economic groups of residents. The main attractions of the area are the Universal, Walt Disney and Warner Bros. film studios. More than half of Los Angeles' small towns are located here. These include Glendale, Burbank, Hidden Hills, Van Nuys and others.

The San Fernando Valley is known not only as the location of many film and entertainment companies, but also for its achievements in the fields of nuclear physics and aerospace. This is where the field laboratories of many research companies are located. TO interesting facts About the valley is its involvement in the appearance of the first porn films. It was here in 1970 that films of overtly erotic content began to appear for the first time, bringing unprecedented profits. Since then, the valley has been called “porn valley” and also “Silicon Valley” due to the fact that the first silicone implants were created here.

Safety

Los Angeles (it’s easier to immediately talk about an agglomeration), both in terms of population and area, is one of the largest cities in the United States and the world, and, like any other metropolis, it has many problems related to the criminal situation. At the same time, Los Angeles has a rather bad reputation - just look at the race riots of 1992 and all the stories about black and Latin American gangs, which are by no means legends.

But at the same time, you shouldn’t think that in Los Angeles there are ten thugs on every corner - here everything depends on the area and the city, since they are all divided very clearly, including on the basis of “dangerous - safe”. All this also depends on the racial and national composition of the residents of areas and cities - where the majority of the white population lives ( beach towns Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Long Beach, Huntington Beach, Laguna Beach, Newport Beach), it’s quite calm there, but in black ghettos like Compton, Carson, Curtains, Inglewood, South Central is better not to look at all.

Directly in the city of Los Angeles in the evening, you should not walk around Downtown (especially in the homeless neighborhood of Skid Row). In Hollywood there are many suspicious types with whom it is better not to talk again. Naturally, you need to carefully monitor your personal belongings, do not leave them in a visible place in the car (you should also not park in suspicious places), do not carry a lot of cash with you (you can pay almost everywhere bank cards), always have a taxi phone number and residential address with you. You should have printed copies with you, as well as on your e-mail, and, accordingly, electronic copies all your documents. In bars, it is better not to accept drinks from strangers - there are cases when psychotropic substances are mixed into it, and the result of such libations will be sad.

Most convenient way get to Los Angeles for independent travelers already located in the United States, is to rent a car. The state of California has many of the most interesting attractions (for example, a world-famous national park) that will be difficult to see without a car.

You can come to Los Angeles by car and return the car (as well as rent it) at one of the companies located right at the City of Angels airport. Car rental points are also available both in the city itself (in different areas) and in the suburbs. It is better to use a car navigator so as not to get confused at city intersections and not to miss the desired junction on the highway.

During our trip to California we arrived and needed a hotel in Hollywood with free parking. We carefully chose the most convenient one, and one that would not be very expensive. In the end we stopped at La Brea Inn, which is located right on Hollywood Boulevard. It was very nice and clean, and the spacious room even exceeded our expectations. It’s convenient to leave your car in the parking lot and walk along the Walk of Fame; all the main attractions are nearby.
