Can't decide where to go to the seaside? Any resort deserves the attention of discerning vacationers, since each of them is famous for the purity of its water and coastal zone.

Where to go to Montenegro for a seaside holiday?

Beach season in Montenegro starts in May: despite the fact that the water at this time is still invigorating (+18˚C), vacationers get an excellent tan. By the end of June, the sea warms up to +23˚C, so it is best for families with children to go to local resorts in July-August (kids can splash in the water for hours without the risk of hypothermia).

The velvet season in Montenegro lasts throughout September (sea water temperature +22-23˚C, air temperature +25-27˚C) - this time is ideal for those who cannot tolerate heat.

Montenegrin seaside resorts on the Adriatic coast (73 km) there are well-equipped pebble, rocky and sandy beaches, as well as nudist and wild beaches, the nature of which is untouched by man. Some of them hide gorges of a mountainous coast or quiet lagoons. So, in Montenegro, Sveti Stefan and other seaside resorts will be waiting for beachgoers.

Beach holiday in Budva

The best period for swimming is June (+21˚C) - September (+23˚C). In July-August the sea warms up to +24-26˚C.

Mogren Beach deserves the attention of vacationers (entrance fee is 1 euro per person, but from September paid entrance is canceled). There are two well-equipped areas for swimming: Mogren I (length – 140 m) and Mogren II (length – 200 m). The passage between them is made in the rock, which adds mystery to this area.

Relax on the beaches of Bar

Best time for holidays in – August (+31˚C). At the service of vacationers:

  • Golden Beach: the beach infrastructure (in addition to sand, there are pebbles and a concrete section) is minimal, but here you can relax with your own equipment for free.
  • Red Beach: the beach (which is accessed via equipped stairs) owes its name to pebbles and sand that have a red-brown tint. Red Beach is not very crowded because you need a car to get there (alternatively, you can take a bus). Guests can rent sun loungers and use a paid toilet.

In the Bar you can have fun at discos under open air, as well as during dives near the port, explore the warship Dag.

Beach holiday in Becici

Becici (average air temperature in summer is +27˚C, and the water warms up to no lower than +24˚C until September) is famous for its sandy beach of the same name, more than 1.5 km long, as well as the annual beach soccer tournament held here (among the participants - stars of global scale). Those who love solitude can stay in the central part of the beach, and active vacationers can stay in the western part (this is where they will find points where they provide rental services for boats, water skis and scooters). There, those who wish will be able to engage in paragliding and windsurfing, play tennis, basketball and volleyball on the grounds designated for these activities.

Beach holiday in Petrovac

On one side (average summer air temperature is +25-27˚C, and water temperature is not lower than +23˚C) there is the sea, and on the other there are olive and coniferous groves. The shore on the 600-meter central beach is equipped with sun loungers, cafes and showers. Vacationers are recommended to come here wearing rubber shoes (they are sold near the coastline). Those who wish can relax here for free, bringing their own equipment and towels. Available entertainment is diving (the destroyer Zenta is subject to inspection), boats, ATVs, catamarans. As for the kids, you can let them splash in the shallow water (3-5 m from the shoreline) or play on the playground.

And in the north of the beach it is worth visiting the Venetian fortress of Castio. There is a memorial here erected in honor of the Montenegrin soldiers who fell in the Second World War. During the high tourist season, there are entertainment centersnight club and the Castello restaurant. It is worth noting that a fortress is also Observation deck: From there you can admire the harbor, coastal buildings, green cliffs and beaches.

Herceg Novi is famous for its relict trees and shrubs, and is suitable for families, children and those wishing to improve their health. The swimming season here lasts from May to September (the water temperature at this time fluctuates around +22-26˚C), so you should not neglect the following beaches:

  • Central Beach: Vacationers have access to a sand and pebble strip where sun loungers and umbrellas are available for rent, and there are grocery stores and cafes. Those who wish can sleep on their own towel.
  • Njivice Beach: since you can’t soak up the beach on your own towel, vacationers will have to rent a sunbed. But here you can ride water skis and scooters. As for nudists, the central part of the beach is “reserved” for them.

Montenegro is famous for its hospitality and love of relaxation. Montenegrins even have a special set of rules that say that “All illnesses come from work, don’t die young,” but “If you see that someone is working, do not bother him, if you see that someone is resting, help him.” .

Two more beaches are “partially” accessible to vacationers in Montenegro: King's Beach, where you can sunbathe only if you must rent a sun lounger and an umbrella for 75 euros per day, as well as east beach on the island of Sveti Stefan, where those who want to swim will have to pay 50 euros for two sun loungers and an umbrella, otherwise they simply will not be allowed to soak up the beach.
But the cost of a sun lounger on the beach for the price of a daily stay in a hotel is not at all a reason to be upset. There are many beaches in Montenegro and, as mentioned above, they are free for everyone and you can choose to your taste: from the shores of Croatia to the Bay of Kotor - Duke-Nova Riviera with rocky beaches, the middle part of the Montenegrin coast - Budva Riviera with a pebble coast, and South part Montenegro, from the city Ulcinj – “Big Beach” with gray volcanic sand, 13 kilometers long.

Although Montenegro is relatively small country, there is a large number of different resorts and places to relax. Many tourists don’t really ask themselves about the best place to vacation in Montenegro, and simply entrust their vacation to a travel agent. But in fact, this approach is fundamentally wrong, because if you don’t choose the most appropriate place for a vacation, then your vacation may not go the way you wanted.
In order to understand where is the best place to relax in Montenegro, you must first decide on the time of your vacation, and then outline the basic requirements for your vacation spot.
If you plan, you can quickly get to many resorts and visit different interesting places on one's own. In the case of renting a car, making a mistake in choosing a resort is not a big deal.
If you do not plan to rent a car, but want to, then you need to take this into account when choosing a resort. Some resorts are inconvenient for excursions. In this regard, ideal options are Budva, Becici, Petrovac, Tivat and Kotor.

Where are the best beaches in Montenegro?

If main goal If your vacation is to relax on the beach, then you are probably wondering where in Montenegro. Here you also need to understand what it means for you " best beaches". For someone great beach it is a beach with a minimum number of people, for others it is a beach with clear water, and for others it is a beach covered with sand.
Where are there sandy beaches in Montenegro? In principle, there are sandy beaches in any region of Montenegro, even in the Bay of Kotor. However, we advise lovers of sandy beaches to consider resorts such as Becici, Petrovac, Sutomore and Ulcinj. These places have quite long beaches, mostly covered with sand.
Do you need beaches with clean water? There are such beaches all over the coast of Montenegro (to tell you the truth, I have never seen dirty water in the sea in Montenegro), but still, I personally like the beaches in the Bay of Kotor the most in terms of cleanliness and transparency of the water.
Do you want to relax on uncrowded beaches? In summer in Montenegro it is very difficult to find a beach where the density of vacationers per square meter is very low. The beaches of Budva, Petrovac, Bar, Ulcinj and other resorts are crowded with vacationers. What to do? We advise you to pay attention to the beaches of the Lustica Peninsula. Although these beaches can only be reached by taxi or rental car, they are hardly crowded.

Where is the best place to relax by the sea in Montenegro?

If you want to relax right on the sea, that is, in a hotel on the first line, you will have a relatively limited choice of hotels. For example, in Budva only a few hotels are located a stone's throw from the beach, but in the neighboring resort of Becici many hotels are located near the seashore and have their own part on the large beach.
One more good place for a seaside holiday in Montenegro is Sutomore, where there are two good hotel located right on the beach.
Let us add that in Montenegro many hotels and guest houses are located 200-300 meters from the seashore, so sometimes it is also worth paying attention to these hotels.

Where is the best place to relax with children in Montenegro?

Those tourists who plan to go on holiday to Montenegro with children must decide on their main priorities. Often tourists with small children choose more quiet places for relaxation, as little children never get bored and always find some kind of entertainment. So with such children you can relax without any problems on the same Lustica peninsula and in other not very popular areas.
Where is the best place to relax in Montenegro with older children? The best option there will be resorts Budva and Becici. In the first case, you will have a choice of several good beaches (Slavic Beach, Mogren and Jaz) and a wide variety of activities held in Budva during the peak season. In the second case, you can choose a hotel with an all-inclusive concept and enjoy a carefree holiday on a private beach. Let us add that in Budva there is a large water park by local standards, which opened recently. The Becici resort also has a water park, but it is more modest.
In general, Montenegro can hardly be called one of best countries for a holiday with children in Europe, but still you can have a good rest here with the whole family.

Where is the best place to relax in Montenegro in May?

Personally, in May, my favorite resorts are on the shores of the Bay of Kotor, which are protected by mountains from cold winds from the north and east. In May there is almost no wind here, warm but rainy.
Resorts south of the Bay of Kotor in May are often exposed to winds from the west. Although these winds are not as cold as winds from the north and east, they are still often uncomfortable. In addition, these winds sometimes raise high waves, which make swimming in resorts such as Sutomore, Petrovac, Bar and Ulcinj impossible.

Where is the best place to relax in Montenegro in June, July and August

In summer in Montenegro you can relax anywhere without worrying too much about the weather. However, it is worth remembering that resorts on the shores of the Bay of Kotor usually receive more rainfall than resorts on the Adriatic Sea.
In most cases best place for holidays in June, July and August there will be the city of Budva. Firstly, the island of St. Nicholas protects this city from high waves, so the water here is almost always calm. Secondly, the mountains protect Budva from cool winds from the north and east, so the weather here is always warm, even at night. Thirdly, in the summer various events, festivals and holidays are held in Budva. That is, it won’t be boring here.
It is worth noting that in summer people often relax on the beaches of Montenegro local residents, there are a lot of screaming children on the beaches. After all, no one has canceled the holidays and the holiday season. All popular beaches, especially the beaches of the Budva Riviera and Bar Riviera, are crowded with vacationers. If you want to find quiet place, we recommend paying attention to the small beaches south of Petrovac, the Great Beach near Ulcinj and the beaches of the Lustica Peninsula.

Where is the best place to relax in Montenegro in September and October?

With the arrival of autumn, the number of tourists in the resorts of Montenegro begins to gradually decrease, and the beaches here are no longer as crowded as in the summer. The weather at this time of year may vary in different places in Montenegro. Personally, I would not choose resorts on the shores of the Bay of Kotor at the end of September and in October, since prolonged rains and often cloudy weather are possible here.
The beaches south of Budva can have high waves in autumn. In addition, these resorts empty out quickly. For some this may be a plus, but for others it may be a minus. If you want to enjoy the holiday atmosphere, then it is better to choose Budva. Although the number of tourists here decreases in autumn, there are still quite a lot of them in Budva. It is also important that there are almost no high waves in Budva in September and October.
