Bar

The modern city of Bar is better known in Montenegro for the presence of a large seaport, but this fact does not detract from its advantages as a popular resort where you can have a wonderful time on the beaches and excursions. Freed from the Ottoman yoke at the end of the 19th century. at the cost of almost complete destruction, the city was rebuilt, moving closer to the sea. Zabljak

A town with a not very euphonious name, which grew out of a small settlement where the khan’s caravans stopped for the night, now has the status of a popular ski resort. Although Zabljak lacks highly developed infrastructure, local natural conditions attract thousands of skiers here. The pristine beauty of alpine meadows, dense coniferous forests, snow-capped peaks, mountain lakes and rivers, neat houses makes even the most indifferent people freeze with admiration. Recently, a network of hotels and catering establishments has been actively developing.

At the end of November, a favorable time is established for fans of ski slopes and turns, lasting until the end of March, when the thickness of the snow cover reaches its maximum. The variety of slope heights allows both experienced skiers and beginners to ski. The Savin Kuk trails are very popular among them, where you can go downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding and sledding. Alpine skiing virtuosos prefer the highest slope (2010 m, elevation difference 800 m). The remaining ski trails are located lower (from 1400 m) and have many branches.

Kolasin

The monastery of the ancient Slavs in the past, the town of Kolasin is surrounded on all sides by mountains, creating almost windless weather and providing many convenient mountain slopes for skiing. Therefore, now Kolasin is a popular ski resort, where tourists come from all over Europe. In winter, there is freedom here not only for skiers and snowboarders, but also simply for those who like a quiet, secluded holiday among winter beauties. But even in summer there are a lot of people here: climbers climb the slopes of the mountains, climb to the peaks; kayakers swim on the lakes. In the ski center Bjelasica you can learn all types of winter sports.

All of them are located on the territory of a biosphere reserve with pristine nature, a rich world of flora and fauna.

Montenegro resorts with sandy beaches

The entire coast of Montenegro (300 km) contains 117 beaches with different surfaces: pebble, sand-pebble and sand. Of course, it’s comfortable to walk on soft sand barefoot; you can bury yourself in it and warm up your bones. For those who prefer to relax on the sand, you should know where the Montenegrin resorts with sandy beaches. A few kilometers from the city of Ultsyn there is the famous Great Beach, 13 km long and 60 m wide.

It is covered with fine white sand, which has medicinal properties, known to many Europeans. In the vicinity of Ulcin there is also Queen's Beach, with unusually soft sand and surprisingly clear water. Since it is surrounded by mountains on land, it can only be reached from the sea. There are wonderful sandy beaches in the Bar area, on the shores of Lake Skadar, on the Budva Riviera (Morgen I II, Becici, Kamenovo).

Resorts for families with children

The rich nature of Montenegro, its amazing beauty, relatively inexpensive prices for accommodation and food make it attractive for families with children. In large cities (Budva, Kotor), the island of Sveti Stefaniy, the cost of holidays is much higher than in small resorts, small towns and villages. Among them, it is worth choosing the best beach conditions in terms of safety and convenience. When planning to travel with children, it is best to book an all-inclusive hotel so as not to waste time searching for a suitable restaurant or tavern.

Good conditions are offered by the resorts of Bar, Tivat, Podgorica, Herceg Novi, where many inexpensive hotels, inns, boarding houses, private villas, and various food establishments are open. Local kitchen is different high quality. In the vicinity of these cities there are cozy resort villages, where there is all the necessary infrastructure for children.

Beach season

As in many Mediterranean resorts, on the Montenegrin coast swimming season starts in May and ends in October. The exception is the city of Kotor, where the swimming season opens at the end of April and ends at the end of November. This is the hottest place in Montenegro: the water in the Bay of Kotor is the warmest, the mountains protect from north wind. In May it is already quite warm, but there is still no mass swimming, because although the air warms up to 23-24° during the day, the water is quite cool, just like in October. June pleases with daytime air temperatures from 25° to 28°, and the sea warms up to +22-23°. July and August are the hottest periods in Montenegro. September – the time of the velvet season – no summer heat, but the sea is warm, there is an abundance of exotic fruits, various berries and vegetables on the market.

More and more often I am asked questions:

I will share with you my observations that have developed over 4 years of living in Montenegro.

How to spend a holiday in Montenegro?

For me, Montenegro is not quite beach country. Yes, of course, you can swim here 4-6 months a year on the incredibly beautiful beaches. But abundance unique nature and attractions in such a small area makes this country magical place for active holidaymakers.

Perhaps the ideal holiday in Montenegro is to rent an apartment with beautiful view somewhere in the Bay of Kotor, or another place that you like, rent a car (it’s better to do this in advance, for example) and travel everywhere, stopping in the most picturesque places and near any beaches. One highway passes through all the cities on the coast, the views from which are breathtaking at every turn.

Exclusively beach holiday it can become beautiful here, in my opinion, only in very good hotel with its own spacious beach.

What's the weather like in Montenegro?

To fully enjoy the beauty of nature, admire the ancient cities and breathe in the local air, I would advise you to come out of season, for example, in spring or autumn. Weddings and photo shoots in Montenegro are also best held at this time.

From the middle Martha It’s already quite warm, and although the weather at this time can be unpredictable, it is in the spring that Montenegro is buried in delicate greenery and flowering trees, April Wisteria, beloved by many, is blooming.

IN May Usually the summer heat begins, but the water is still quite cool.

At first June Montenegro is all in flowers - oleanders and hydrangeas are blooming everywhere, and the sea pleases with its warmth and purity. There are also thunderstorms in Montenegro in the summer; they are majestically beautiful and do not last long.

IN July and August I would not advise going to Montenegro, especially for families with small children. This time is suitable for you only if you like noise, loud music, night discos, heat, walking in crowds of vacationers, traffic jams, crowded beaches. This is also the period of the highest prices.

IN September The sea, hot sun and summer evenings still await you.

October, perhaps, my favorite month in Montenegro, a gentle velvet season, especially if you are lucky with the weather. By October, the sun sets much earlier, so evening swimming is unlikely to be comfortable; the sea is often warmer than the air.

IN November Golden autumn begins on the coast, warm and picturesque, but the evenings are already noticeably cooler. By the way, autumn sunsets are the most beautiful!

Winter in Montenegro it is a smooth transition from autumn to spring. The golden autumn continues throughout December, and although the nights can be cold (0... +10C), during the day the sun noticeably heats up to +15...+20C. But the rainy season, wind and storms can take you by surprise. IN rainy days damp and cool (+7…+15C). It is on the coldest days that the bay is decorated with snowy mountain peaks.

Roses and wild daffodils bloom all winter. Until spring there are oranges, tangerines, and lemons everywhere. TO February mimosa and camellia bloom, which in Montenegro means the arrival of a new spring.

Which city to choose for a holiday in Montenegro?

Each city is beautiful in its own way and has its own characteristics.

For an exclusively beach holiday, I think it’s worth choosing cities and places near open sea.

And if you are in the mood to travel and admire the beauties of Montenegro, I would advise you to opt for the cities or towns of the Bay of Kotor. I consider this part of Montenegro the most picturesque, and from the bay you can easily and quickly travel by car (it’s convenient to look at car rental prices) to other interesting places on the coast and to the north of the country.

Kotor beautiful and interesting, life is in full swing here almost all year round thanks to the constantly arriving ships with tourists. Lots of souvenirs, cafes and restaurants. The city beaches of Kotor leave much to be desired. But swimming in its surroundings is much more pleasant.

Perast, like a fairytale setting, a small town with one shop and restaurants along the sea. If you wish, you can even swim there, but it’s more difficult to do with kids.

IN Herceg Novi Although small, the old town is beautiful and special, and due to its location it is rarely crowded. But on the embankment (its length is about 7 km) life is always in full swing, even in winter there are a lot of people working here good cafes and restaurants for every taste. Herceg Novi is called botanical garden and the city on the steps, so if you are not a fan of physical activity or are vacationing with kids, it is better to choose places to relax near the sea. There are both concrete and pebble beaches along the entire embankment. Herceg Novi is located 20 minutes from Croatia.

Tivat interesting mainly due to Porto Montenegro, but for swimming this is not the most attractive beach, in my opinion.

Bar, Ulcinj, Petrovac- cities near the open sea, with which I am not familiar enough to draw my own conclusions regarding vacation. But if you plan to travel around Montenegro, from there you will have to travel longer to the cities of the Bay of Kotor.

Of the cities near the open sea, I am quite familiar, perhaps, only with Budva. It is a beautiful modern city with lots of entertainment.

Budva is the “capital” of the coast, with its attendant advantages and disadvantages. I know that many people love it, but I would not want to spend my holidays there as a tourist. And here's the one next door Saint Stephen deserves the attention of those for whom this journey is something special.

What places are worth visiting?

Everyone has their own list of favorite places in Montenegro. I’ll tell you what I can’t imagine traveling to Montenegro without.

If this is your first time in this country, take a ride along the road Bay of Kotor. To do this, you can take rent a car(or a bicycle if you are an experienced cyclist). Stop everywhere and take in the amazing views!

If you're hungry, stop at Perast. Take a walk along the beautiful promenade, where you will see restaurants right by the sea. And sail to the island of Gospa od Škrpela (Our Lady on the Reef), you will find people willing to take you there wherever you see boats.

Take another ride around the bay and visit Kotor. A walk through the Old Town is impressive. After lunch, stock up on water and climb the fortress. You will be treated to incredible views, but you shouldn’t do this in the heat and with kids.

If serpentines don't scare you, go to Lovcen, The Bay of Kotor will be in front of you at a glance.

Take a walk around Porto Montenegro(in Tivat), it is beautiful during the day, but it evening illumination admires. Try Moritz ice cream there, it leaves no one indifferent.

If you have the opportunity, visit a closed island Sveti Stefan. You can do this by renting a hotel room or booking a table in a restaurant on the island. But a walk in the park along the sea in front of the island and swimming with a view of Sveti Stefan will give you a lot of pleasure!

IN Herceg Novi it is worth visiting the Old Town and the three fortresses, from which you can see beautiful views to the city and the entrance to the Bay of Kotor. The rest of the interesting places are not visible to tourists at first glance, and you will have to spend a lot of time to find them, but I will be happy to show them to you during the photo shoot)

If you love mountains or want to take a break from the sultry heat, go to north of Montenegro– Piva Lakes, Durmitor National Park, Zabljak, Black Lake, Djurdjevic Bridge, Kolasin. I would advise going overnight.

Most excursions to these places are one-day, but this is too tiring, considering that from the coast to the north it takes about 3 hours one way through the mountainous terrain. You will also find it useful here rented car or an experienced guide with your own car if you want to admire the views and not follow the difficult road.

At this time, all venues for holding a wedding ceremony are available to you, almost all beaches are free, and the wedding photo shoot will be have a nice walk in the absence of heat and tourists. You can read more about the weather in Montenegro.

  • Heading to town Bar, you can enjoy clear sky, under which clean air flows and the measured life of Montenegrins flows.

The journey does not take much time, and the market is replete with the freshest seafood. The fee is relatively small. But the holiday is overshadowed by not entirely clean beaches, sea pollution and an influx of other travelers. There is frankly not enough club entertainment.

  • Those who are looking for the best place to relax in Montenegro not only during the day, but also at night, often go to Budva(good ones in the city from the owners).

Young people will be delighted by the club scene and soft beaches. The city reliably existed 2500 years ago, which allows us to recommend it for quiet family visits. A lot of excursions are organized from here. But the problem is that Budva also attracts scammers like a magnet. Tourists are constantly required to be careful.

  • Resort Igalo(apartments at the resort) are suitable for those planning to visit a foreign sanatorium.

Guests are welcome here from May to September inclusive. Along with treatment, the administration took care of horseback riding, scuba diving, cycling and playing tennis. The bottom is almost flat, but night life extremely scarce. Igalo is not suitable for children either; they won’t find anything interesting here.

  • If you just want to relax, you need to go to Rafailovichi(rental of property).
  • But for those who decide to combine a beach holiday in Montenegro with active leisure on the water, it will be preferable Becici(apartments in Becici).

However, these two resorts are adjacent, so you can vary the program if there are no specific wishes. Among the resorts in Montenegro with sandy beaches, Budva can be mentioned. However, in this case you will have to get to the sand in a rented car. The area is equipped, full of restaurants, and beach equipment is provided. Almost everywhere, if not sand, then fine pebbles.

  • If you have serious funds, you can visit St. Stephen's Island(vacation hotels).

There high prices, and if you want to save money, it’s better to visit the village of the same name. By the way, it is not overloaded with tourists even during the peak season. The problem may be that the coast is steep and you will have to go down to the sea along steps dug in the ground.

  • Herceg Novi(apartments in the city) also allows you to relax on the beach, but the coastal strips are not as high quality as in Budva.

Within the city they are small and completely filled with concrete, so you have to drive beyond the line settlement. We recommend visiting Zhanitsa beach, which has clear sea water and a fine pebble layer. The space is equipped with changing cabins, showers, umbrellas and sun loungers. There are a number of cafes. The cost of food is noticeably less than in Budva.

  • Tivat() attracts connoisseurs of elegant natural landscapes, peace and tranquility.

Another advantage of visiting this resort is its accessibility. But there are very few beach areas, each covered with a layer of concrete. To solve this problem, it is enough to move to the surrounding areas. Directly next to Tivat there are a lot of attractive sites.

  • In the extreme south of Montenegro there is a resort Ulcinj.

Where to go to Montenegro with children?

The question of where in Montenegro is best to relax with a child is not easy to resolve. But having complete information, you can make the most correct and correct choice. In principle, Montenegrins have a positive attitude towards all small visitors to their country. However, accommodation conditions are not the same everywhere. Popular Budva is optimized for the leisure of young people and the cheerful part of adults. The booming speakers and sparkling color music of discotheques in the evenings and at night can excite children. Yes, even for most teenagers such a shake-up of the nervous system will not be beneficial.

Herceg Novi has another problem: despite the charming setting of medieval buildings, rapid flows of visitors make constant monitoring of children necessary. But in Kotor, with its national park, has all the necessary facilities for a family visit. However, this is not an option. It is difficult to enter the water; the shores are dotted with rocks and steep cliffs.

But still, which resorts to choose for a holiday by the sea nearby? And - what cheap resorts in Montenegro can be recommended for families with children? First of all, it is worth mentioning, however, that the place is not at all cheap - Sveti Stefan Island. There was a fortress there in the past, but after the need for it disappeared, the island eventually transformed into a respectable leisure center. The resort deservedly received the international “Golden Apple” sign, which goes only to the best tourist areas on the planet.

Sveti Stefan Island

In addition to the selected amenities, the advantage of visiting this island will be the provision of escort services, provided baby food and special beds. If families with older schoolchildren set off on a journey, they can engage in various types of diving and go out on yachts and boats into the open sea. The beach itself is formed by a combination of sand and pebbles. Transparent, glass-like waves wash out onto the gently sloping shore. The air is pristinely clean.

Less than 20 kilometers from Budva there is a small town Petrovac. It is surrounded by olive groves and southern European coniferous forests. Even at the top tourist season It's calm and cozy here. As for the beach strip, it occupies the shores of a shallow (in size) bay and is divided into 2 segments.

We recommend walking 5 minutes to reach Lucice, where the sandy strip is wide and green plants improve the microclimate even on the hottest day. It’s worth considering right away that the rides and play areas It's pointless to count. However, in the summer months the tranquility is considerably diluted by a host of themed festivals. Their organizers try to please tourists of any age.

Petrovac

As an alternative, you can consider a seaside town Chan. The sea here is shallow, the depth almost does not increase as you enter the water. Therefore the risk is minimized. But it’s still worthwhile, even before leaving for the airport, to familiarize yourself with the real signs of drowning (and it doesn’t happen at all the way most people imagine). Chan is also known for the international children's complex “Pearl Coast”: every summer there are from 500 to 900 children within the walls of the complex.

You can go to the village Dobra Voda. There, a standard set of conditions has been created since the 1950s. Olives grow around, and this area is officially recognized as the cleanest region of Montenegro.
