National dishes of Vietnam

Vegetarian restaurant in Ho Chi Minh City

Vietnamese cuisine was created on the basis of Khmer, Thai and Chinese - they were used to create unique dishes and sauces that appealed to many gourmets.

When preparing many dishes, seasonings are added to give a piquant taste: coriander, mint, lemongrass, ginger, shrimp, black pepper, nuoc mam fish sauce, basil and garlic.

A unique Vietnamese dish is fried meat with rice - the dish is prepared according to a special recipe.

TO national dishes applies:

at your favorite cafe “Longtong” in Mui Ne

  • Bunthang- a dish made from rice noodles.
  • Ocean Monday– the dish is made from snails and has a very unique taste.
  • Laumam– the dish is based on a vegetable mixture, which is served in a pot.
  1. I do not recommend buying souvenirs during excursion trips around the country, since in places where tourist routes are laid, prices for souvenirs are simply fantastic;
  2. It is recommended to purchase seafood at evening or night fish markets;
  3. You can try to bargain, especially if the purchase is supposed to be from street vendors and those who sell goods on the beaches;
  4. When buying in a supermarket you need to pay attention to the price tags: tourists are sometimes deceived by simply punching one product several times;
  5. When traveling around the country, you need to watch your wallet, pockets and bag;

Travel documents

Citizens of the Russian Federation are allowed visa-free entry into Vietnam for up to 15 days.

To travel to Vietnam you must have the following documents:

  • valid international passport;
  • permission to obtain a visa on arrival (if you are planning a trip to Vietnam for more than 15 days);
  • 2 color photographs 40*60 (if you are planning a trip to Vietnam for more than 15 days);
  • completed application form (if you are planning a trip to Vietnam for more than 15 days).

Vietnam is a relatively small state, but its entire eastern part is washed by the sea, and the coastline is more than three thousand kilometers. So there are no problems with a beach holiday here. In addition, the country is strongly elongated from north to south, which gives great opportunity for those who like to travel - everything tourist routes one way or another laid in the direction Hanoi-Ho Chi Minh City or vice versa.

Let's start with beach holiday, since most tourists from Russia go to Vietnam primarily for the sea and the sun.

City

The most popular resort in Vietnam now and in the near future is the city of Nha Trang. Geographically it is southern Vietnam, so it is almost always warm here, with the exception of the period from October to January. At this time, especially in November-December, the temperature may not be as comfortable for swimming as in other months, and it traditionally rains often. Here it must be said that it is simply impossible to give any accurate forecasts; each winter season in Nha Trang is different from the previous one - last winter, for example, was surprisingly warm and dry, but this one was not pleasing (low temperature and wind with waves) . Before deciding whether or not to refuse to visit Nha Trang during this period, it is worth considering not only the possible bad weather.

The point is that now Nha Trang is the most optimal choice for most tourists the following reasons:

  • A large number of hotels, including budget ones - 2** and 3***. In addition to the price (for those who value service, there is also expensive hotels), you can choose the location - right next to the beach or in the city center, or maybe away from the bustle of the city.
  • Short transfer from airport to hotel (Cam Ranh Airport is located just 35 kilometers from Nha Trang)
  • A large selection of excursions and entertainment: you can go to the northern or southern islands, wild beaches, waterfalls, mud baths, and also visit the famous island-amusement park Vinpearl.
  • Developed infrastructure: modern shopping centers, many shops and restaurants for every taste, more intensive than other resorts night life.

However, Nha Trang is still a city with a population of half a million. That is, solitude and relaxation, calmness and serenity are not on the list of its advantages. All this can be found near Nha Trang or in expensive hotels (Vinpearl, Hon Tam, Diamond Bay, Ana Mandara), but the city itself is always very lively - here, In addition to tourists, many Vietnamese are also vacationing. The city beach is across the road, it is free, but you need to pay 40-50 thousand dong (about 2 dollars) to use a sun lounger. In addition to spontaneous accumulations of sun loungers, there are also organized beach recreation areas - Sailing Club, Louisiana, Gorky Park. It’s worth special mention about Gorky Park - there are several swimming pools (few hotels in the city have a swimming pool), good restaurant and a pub, inexpensive massage, and its entire territory is guarded.

So, when considering a holiday in Nha Trang even in months that are not the most favorable in terms of climate, it is worth weighing the pros and cons - it is quite possible that you will be lucky with the weather or it will not be so bad that it will ruin your holiday.

The only thing I would like to warn you against is to be careful when choosing a hotel. Very often, travel agency managers do not yet know the location of all the hotels and may well sell you a tour to a hotel on the edge of the city or even to another resort - Phan Rang, located 100 km from Nha Trang. Be sure to look for information about the hotel on the Internet and read reviews of tourists who have visited it.

The next most popular resort in Vietnam is Mui Ne.

Mui Ne is resort village 15 kilometers from the small administrative center - the city of Phan Thiet with a population of 100 thousand, but it so happens that in the documents of tour operators this resort is referred to as Phan Thiet. Know that in 90% of cases it is Mui Ne that is meant - and be sure to check the hotel offered to you for its location. The fact is that in Phan Thiet itself (an extremely unlucky place to stay) there are a couple of hotels where Russian tourists are also accommodated. In addition, many hotels are located away from the center of Mui Ne and, accordingly, the center of tourist life - restaurants, shops, spas. Living alone has its pros and cons; the main thing is to know in advance what the travel agency is offering you. It happened that people only discovered upon arrival that instead of Mui Ne, their hotel was located on Ke Ga Beach, a beautiful place, but with poor conditions. developed infrastructure and 40 kilometers from the main resort.

But hopefully the hotel you choose is in Mui Ne. What are the differences between Mui Ne and Nha Trang? The first and main difference is that Mui Ne is a resort village. In all senses. On the one hand, this is a great atmosphere of relaxation and tranquility, a leisurely way of life and an excellent beach, available in almost every hotel (here you don’t need to cross the road, like in Nha Trang, just go out of your hotel straight to the sea). At the same time, from the point of view of a tourist, Mui Ne has almost everything you need - food and shopping for every taste, the only thing is that there are fewer excursions and entertainment than in Nha Trang.

The great advantage of Mui Ne is its unique climate. This southern resort is the sunniest place in Vietnam, and while in Nha Trang in winter it can be not very comfortable, in Mui Ne the weather has been excellent since November and there is practically no rain. For the sake of fairness, it must be said that in summer the situation at the resorts is the opposite - in Nha Trang it is hot and dry, and low season(in terms of the flow of tourists) is not as noticeable as in Mui Ne, where from May to October (August-October especially) there can be a lot of rain. Again, it is unrealistic to predict anything, and rains are not at all a reason not to come to Mui Ne in the summer, when there are fewer tourists and there are no competitions in the spirit of “whoever gets up first gets the sunbed.”

The peculiarity of Mui Ne, this time not a pleasant one, is that in winter, during the high season, there is enough big waves, which prevents many from swimming, especially in the afternoon, when they become stronger. These waves are caused by the wind, strong, even, blowing at an angle to the shore, which has long made Mui Ne a real Mecca for kite surfers, who come here en masse just in the winter season. They ride beautifully, but sometimes crowd tourists on the beach. The most interesting excursions are to the white dunes and Fairy Creek, to Mount Ta Ku to the reclining Buddha and to the Ke Ga lighthouse, as well as to the Binh Chao mud bath. You can also go to Dalat (this excursion is also available from Nha Trang), and to Nha Trang itself, located 240 km from Mui Ne.

And here lies the biggest disadvantage of Mui Ne as a resort. The fact is that no matter which airport you fly to (Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City or Cam Ranh Airport in Nha Trang), the transfer to Mui Ne by bus takes about 6 hours, by car - a little less. This not the shortest journey scares off many people, and coupled with reviews that Mui Ne is “boring”, has already led to the fact that the bulk of tourists have reoriented to Nha Trang. And there are fewer hotels in Mui Ne and they are on average a little more expensive than in Nha Trang - so try to book a hotel here in advance, otherwise the rooms in it may be purchased. But still, Mui Ne is a very interesting place, worthy of visiting. And the situation with the transfer will change in the near future, when a new expressway is built, along which it will be possible to get to the resort in about three hours.

Phu Quoc Island.

If high quality and calm beach holiday- everything you need and you are willing to pay for it, take a closer look for yourself southern resort Vietnam - Phu Quoc Island. The easiest way to get to it is by plane from Ho Chi Minh City (40 minutes on the way). Hotels on the island, of course, are more expensive than on the continent, and the infrastructure is not as developed, but everything pays off with clean, clear water, beautiful nature and real island relaxation. However, you won’t find bounty-style pictures here, this is not the Maldives. Phu Quoc, unlike mainland Vietnam, is washed by the waters of the Gulf of Thailand, the climate here is approximately the same as in Mui Ne - there is a clearly defined winter dry and summer wet season. Soberly assess how long you can enjoy only the beach and seafood, because in terms of excursions and active rest the choice is small (trips by small islands, pepper farms, kayaking, diving and fishing). Hotels in Fukuoka are scattered along different beaches, and to the center of evening life - the colorful night market, where you can eat and shop deliciously and inexpensively - you will most often have to take a taxi. It is ideal to combine a beach holiday in Phu Quoc with a stay in Ho Chi Minh City and several excursions from there.

Da Nang city.

And finally, the last and very worthy resort in Vietnam is the city of Danang and the beaches around it. Da Nang is the third largest city in Vietnam after Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi, a modern metropolis located in the very center of the country.

Its beaches, famous for their pure white sand, are among the ten most beautiful in the world according to Forbes magazine, and stretch 30 kilometers to the town of Hoi An. Special mention must be made about Hoi An - it is included in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites, as its Old city, according to everyone, best preserves the atmosphere of past centuries. This very colorful and romantic place is very popular among tourists from all over the world, and Russian tourists are still in the minority here.

Figuratively speaking, by choosing Da Nang as a resort, you get a combination of high-quality and secluded relaxation, like in Phu Quoc, and a pastime full of excursions, like in Nha Trang. This and Marble Mountains, and the monument of Cham culture Michon, and the ancient capital of Vietnam Hue, as well as trips to the islands. And you can choose the combination of beaches and excursions yourself. In terms of prices, a holiday in Da Nang will be more expensive than in Nha Trang, but if you choose a hotel in Hoi An, you can really save money, although the standard of the hotel will be lower, and you will have to walk or even drive to the beach. The airport is located in close proximity to the city, so the transfer will not cause any problems. The only restriction on recreation in Da Nang is created by nature itself - you can swim from May to October, the rest of the time both temperature and heavy rains will prevent this.

Whatever resort you choose, we hope you will want to return to Vietnam again. Each city here is different from the other in traditions, sea, and local cuisine. Have a great holiday!

Many tourists are interested in holidays in Vietnam. This country has become popular for many reasons, including visa-free entry, and gorgeous sandy beaches, and a pleasant climate, low prices for local hotels.

So tourists from all countries flocked there, including Russo tourists.

I was lucky enough to visit two of the most popular Vietnamese resorts in this country, so I had the opportunity to compare them. And in this article I will talk about the features of these resorts, and why Vietnam can become your most vivid tourist experience!

Socialism in paradise: who will enjoy a holiday in Vietnam

Do you remember how during the Soviet Union we treated foreign tourists? That's right: they ran on their hind legs in front of them, they, foreigners, were offered only the best. They were built for them good hotels, expensive restaurants worked for them.

This is exactly what it looks like in Vietnam. If the same Chinese built their loved ones for themselves, then the Vietnamese do not yet have so many rich people to build luxury hotels for them. And they were built specifically for tourists. Moreover, they were built quite recently - about 10 years ago. Since, unlike the same thing, before this Vietnam was somehow in no hurry to develop resorts.

But after a tourism development program was adopted in the country at the beginning of the 2000s, the Vietnamese began to build in such a way that everyone gasped.

So, if you want to feel like a celestial, go to Vietnam!

By the way, please note that there have been changes to the rules for entry into Vietnam. You can read more about this in this article:

When is the best time to go: holiday seasonality

First, let's first determine the best season to travel. In Vietnam there is a dry season and a rainy season. Due to the fact that Vietnam is stretched from north to south, the climate in different parts of Vietnam is also different.

But both the north and south are affected by the monsoons. From November to April it is cooler in the north, but there is less rainfall. And from May to October it is hot and humid. The south has high humidity all year round, and the rainy season lasts from May to November. Because most popular resorts are located closer to the south of Vietnam, perhaps, it is worth choosing for a trip to Vietnam time from November to April.

Most often, tourists do just that. Accordingly, prices in the dry season are more expensive, and during the rainy season, tours to Vietnam are slightly cheaper.

Resorts in Vietnam - which one to choose?

Choosing a resort in Vietnam should also be approached quite responsibly, because two most popular resorts Vietnam - Nha Chang And Phan Thiet- very different in their structure and location.

Having been both there and there, I can say that by choosing any of them, you will get great holiday and a lot of opportunities for excursions.

But it’s still better to know about the features of these resorts in order to get exactly the impressions from your trip that will make you remember Vietnam with love and delight.

Phan Thiet Resort

So, Phan Thiet located quite far from the airport - 200 km, the transfer there takes 3-4 hours. Actually, the town of Phan Thiet itself is not a tourist destination. This is an ordinary small town where the local population earns a living by fishing.

Next to it - about 15 km - there is Mui Ne resort area . That's where all the hotels are located.

Just 10-15 years ago, mostly surfers and kitesurfers traveled to Mui Ne. During the day, the guys rode the waves and in the evening they drank beer on the beach and picked up girls in several local bars. A kind of specific paradise on earth, a party for our own people.

But everything is changing. The big ones found out about Mui Ne travel companies. Monsters of the tourism industry have considered the potential local beaches and began to creatively improve this place and sell organized tours to a godforsaken village in southern Vietnam.

Now there are more than 70 hotels. They are of different levels - from three to five stars. But the nice thing is that all the hotels in Mui Ne have their own large or not very large, but, as a rule, beautiful and green territory, and are located on the 1st line from the sea, and their beaches with pleasant golden sand have a gentle entrance to the sea .

3* hotels:Vinh Suong Resort 3*, We lived in it: an amazingly green and cozy hotel, very well located - everything is nearby. Hotels MUINE OCEAN RESORT & SPA 3*, CANARY BEACH RESORT 3* also decent, with beautiful areas and good rooms.

4* hotels: BAMBOO VILLAGE BEACH RESORT & SPA 4* — very stylish, with good territory; PALMIRA MUINE 4* A little further from other hotels, but ideal for a relaxing holiday with children. NOVELA RESORT 4*- small area good rooms(and view from most rooms), good location. SUNNY BEACH PHAN THIET 4* great area, flowers everywhere, nice rooms .

Two 4* hotels stand out: Novotel Coralia 4* And PARK DIAMOND HOTEL 4*. They are no longer located in Mui Ne, but on the outskirts of Phan Thiet itself. But if Novotel Coralia 4* is a large area, its own beach, infrastructure, excellent rooms with balconies, i.e. a good hotel for a good rest, then PARK DIAMOND HOTEL 4* this is essentially a city hotel without territory, with the beach across the road. And I wouldn’t want to spend all 10-12 days of my vacation there...

5* hotels: ANANTARA MUINE 5* pretentious, high-tech style, excellent territory, endless swimming pool, huge rooms with stylish interiors... in short, the most cool hotel in Mui Ne. MUINE DE CENTURY BEACH RESORT & SPA 5* a large beautiful area, colonial-style houses, in general, heaven on earth.

Across the road from the hotels, on the 2nd line from the sea, all the tourism infrastructure Mui Ne in the form of restaurants, shops, massage parlors, travel agencies and rental offices.

And in the surrounding area there are several natural and cultural attractions:

  • white sand dunes
  • red dunes
  • hot springs and geysers
  • Fairy Creek (Red Creek)
  • Cham towers

All of them are located at different distances from the resort. You can try to get there on your own by renting a scooter, or you can take a tour and go admire the nature and landscapes of southern Vietnam with a guide.

By choosing the second option, you will see several amazing places: Visit the White Sand Dunes and admire the lotus blossoms on the lake next to the dunes. Near the Fairy Creek, where, according to local legend, magical fairies live, you will take a barefoot walk right along the shallow stream. He walks along the jungle and sand mountains and leads to a small waterfall.

In addition, you will have to climb cable car to Mount Taku, 694 meters high. It offers stunning views of the South China Sea and the landscapes of South Vietnam. On the mountain you will also see the famous 49-meter statue of Buddha, see an active temple in which monks live, and pagodas to which Buddhists make pilgrimages.

The pretty girl Alexandra can take you on such an excursion. You can view the program of this excursion here: Amazing Binh Thuan

As I already mentioned, the Mui Ne resort area is a mecca for wind, kite and other surfers. There are excellent conditions for practicing these sports - stable winds and moderate but also stable waves.

The only disadvantage of a holiday in Mui Ne may be the abundance of compatriots. Even in Turkey there are probably last years became smaller. Signs in cafes and restaurants are entirely in Russian, and in the evenings you can hear Baskov’s drawn-out voice and Pugacheva’s old songs from the speakers. But if after 10 days of rest you get bored with seafood and want borscht, you will find it.

Kega District

I would like to say a few more words about the resort area Kega (KE GA).

It is also located a 20-minute drive from Phan Thiet, but only in the opposite direction from Mui Ne. About 10 hotels have now been built and operate there. They are all very decent, even three rubles, for example ROCK WATER BAY 3*, or Eco Spa Village 3*(in the spirit of a Vietnamese village with cozy eco-style houses buried in the jungle).

But there is really nowhere to leave the hotel in the evening - there is no infrastructure around. So if you book a hotel in the Kega region on breakfast, then you will have a problem with dinner - you will either need to go to Phan Thiet, or pay extra and make do with the hotel restaurant. Usually tourists choose the first option, because... At a hotel dinner, everyone quickly gets bored.

In Phan Thiet itself, even if you have a hotel in Mui Ne, in general, you can go a couple of times, renting a scooter, to get acquainted with the life of the local population. Well, perhaps young people will like it night club: it can be easily found by the glowing beam of the club spotlight, which is visible against the background of the night sky even at the entrance to the town.

In general, lovers of parties, crowds and nightlife, as well as anyone who does not like long transfers from the airport to the hotel, are better off going to another popular resort in Vietnam - Nha Trang.

Hang out in Vietnam: Nha Trang

Nha Chang– big enough and modern city(about a million population), the road to it from the airport will take a maximum of 40 minutes.

All hotels except one - ANA MANDARA RESORT 5*, - are located across the road from the sea, but right in the city itself (with the exception of island ones). This is both a plus and a minus.

Plus - all the temptations are available to you right on your doorstep big city. The downside is that the population of this big city is numerous on this very city beach. But this is a minus rather for those tourists who are ready to communicate with the local population only in the form of refined hotel staff.

As for good hotels in Nha Trang, I can recommend the following:

More expensive: Sheraton Nha Trang , Balcony Seaview Nha Trang Center, InterContinental Nha Trang, The Light Hotel& Spa

Those tourists who need an ideal beach with sun loungers/umbrellas and no local population on it, and indeed all tourists vacationing in Nha Trang, will really like it on Vin Pearl Island , which is connected to Nha Trang by cable car.

Except gorgeous beach in a quiet, wave-free harbor, this island has luxury hotels - VINPEARL RESORT NHA TRANG 5 * And VINPEARL LUXURY NHA TRANG 5*, and the huge Winpearl Land park with a water park, an aquarium, an amusement park and a 3D cinema. Tourists with children, I think, will appreciate all the possibilities of Vin Pearl Island.

All this is available for about 600 rubles with our money. Having paid this amount for the ticket, you get there by cable car and spend the whole day there on the beach, water slides and other attractions (you only have to buy food and drinks). And it all ends with an evening fountain show. It is also included in these 600 rubles.

Why else should you choose Vietnam?

Well, how do you like this country already? Let me give you a couple more reasons in favor of a holiday in Vietnam.

Good excursion programs

In Vietnam you can and should go on excursions . At any resort in Vietnam you will be offered an excellent excursion program: from a trip to hot mineral springs or V Sand dunes before Dalata.

IN Dalat It is advisable to go just for a couple of days, because... The road takes quite a long time, and there is a lot to see.

Those who are more active will of course go to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) And Ha Long Bay.

If you don’t like to follow the beaten path, and you want to see the real Vietnam, views that will make your heart beat faster, then you should take these excursions:

Dak Lak Province and Lien Son Village– two-day trip: wild nature, rice fields, coffee fields, huge waterfalls, elephant and boat rides, local tribes and their national cuisine.

Fishing village and Vinh Hy Bay: see how ordinary Vietnamese fishermen live, learn about their way of life and the structure of the village, see how the fish is dried, which is then sent to stores around the world; look at salt fields, where the locals mine salt, and look at Vietnamese vineyards, try young Vietnamese wine.

Good inexpensive shopping

Vietnam is good shopping . The country is famous for its cosmetics, tea and coffee, as well as silk and pearl products. What can you bring from Vietnam? Yes, almost everything: jewelry, leather goods, clothes and shoes. And all this is very inexpensive. After all, many famous brands have been making their collections in China and Vietnam for a long time. It sells both traditional silk clothes and clothes made from patterns from world brands; You can also find local designer shops.

When going shopping, be prepared to play by the rules. And they are as follows: if you want to buy a thing, do not immediately give the amount stated by the seller. You need to bargain, even you are not used to doing this. But you will get an item of excellent quality for an inexpensive price. These are the rules of shopping.

When buying street goods, you can also use the following “psychological maneuver”: walking away from the tray with an offended look. The merchant will call you back and will definitely give in. Well, there is no bargaining in supermarkets: their prices are fixed.

Seafood and other delicacies

What else can make you fall in love with Vietnam is its cuisine. Vietnam is not only a variety of fruits and seafood at ridiculous prices:

Vietnamese kitchen represents the totality of all known world traditions: Indian, Japanese, Chinese and so on. Let's remember the history of Vietnam - who was there: the Mongols, the French, and even the Americans!

Thus, the Vietnamese share the Chinese concept of “five tastes”: food should have a balance of salty, sweet, sour, bitter and spicy. As in Chinese cuisine, vegetables and herbs play a large role in dishes. However, the Vietnamese use less oil when frying food than the Chinese.

Following China, Mongolian shepherds came to Vietnam in the 10th century and taught the Vietnamese to eat beef. Neighboring Cambodia also influenced the development of Vietnamese cuisine: thanks to it, Indian spices and seasonings became quite common in Vietnam.

The French, coming to Vietnam in the 19th century, brought their philosophy to cooking: respect for high quality ingredients and correct use. Asparagus, avocados, corn, tomatoes and wine appeared in Vietnam thanks to the French. They taught the Vietnamese to eat bread (baguettes), drink beer, coffee with milk and make ice cream.

The friendliness of the Vietnamese

In Vietnam, no one, I repeat - NO ONE, will pull you by the hand into their store, shop, restaurant. No one will pester you on the street with their goods. The Vietnamese generally deserve the sympathy of tourists precisely because of their friendliness and unobtrusiveness.

So, to summarize: Vietnam is a great option for your vacation if you need a warm sea, good hotels, cheap seafood and a lot of impressions.

For those who could not decide on a resort, there is combined tours, giving the opportunity to live in both Nha Trang and Phan Thiet.

See you on the blog!

Vietnam is notable for its beautiful nature, ancient temple complexes and quality hotels with good service and low prices. The capital Hanoi and the bustling Saigon-Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Long Bay and the resort of Phan Thiet - all about Vietnam: weather, reviews, tours and maps.

There is an opinion that Vietnam is the same as Thailand, only more natural, not so “captured” by tourists. In fact, these are two completely different countries, each with its own tricks, and in Thailand there are quite wild places, and in Vietnam - resorts with the most advanced infrastructure. The real Vietnam is the ancients temple complexes bygone civilizations and natural beauty national parks, healthy and delicious food, the cheapest diving in the world and resorts with a distinct European flair: a former French colony, after all. In addition, here you can have plenty of nostalgia for the recent social past: the flag is almost like our former one, and there are pioneers in ties, and even the leader in the mausoleum.

If Vietnam were to magically suddenly be closer to Central Russia, the tourist flow to this country would certainly increase many times over. Indeed, among the tangible disadvantages of this direction is only a long and, therefore, expensive flight. Everything else is a complete plus: an unusual and exciting “excursion”, beautiful beaches with ample opportunities for active recreation, an extensive and high-quality hotel base, low prices in hotels, restaurants, and excursions.

Regions and resorts of Vietnam

For convenience, Vietnam can be divided into three large regions: North, South and Center. Northern Vietnam- the most ancient part countries with many attractions, tea and coffee plantations, nature reserves and Hanoi - the capital, where West and East surprisingly mix. Best time for relaxation - spring.

Central Vietnam is famous for its long beaches, pleasant climate almost all year round beautiful views, the parties of Danang and the ancient temples of Hue.

The South is the heart of the economy. The largest city of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City, is located here, and there are expensive hotels in it, best restaurants, numerous shops and other amenities of civilization. The main resorts in the south are luxurious Phu Quoc, youthful Nha Trang and calmer Phan Thiet. Read more about tourist geography countries are described on the page “Cities and resorts of Vietnam”.

Climate

About a third of Vietnam is located at a level of 500 m above the sea, so the climate there is subtropical, and in areas above 2000 m it is even temperate. From April-May to October, the southeast monsoons bring warm and humid weather to the country - except in areas protected by mountains.

In the south of Vietnam (from Ho Chi Minh City to Phan Thiet) two seasons can be distinguished - wet and dry. The first traditionally lasts from May to November, the rainiest months are June-August. The second usually starts in December and ends in April. This is the most favorable time for European tourists. “Velvet” months are January and February: soft sun, refreshing sea water. From the end of February to May there are hot days without rain.

The best time to visit Vietnam is when rain is least likely: from April-May to October-November.

Climate of Central Vietnam (from the resort of Nha Trang to ancient capital Hue): from February to August - clear, rain is rare, temperature +30...+35 °C. In mid-December there are heavy rains, in October-November typhoons are possible in the Danang and Hue area, the temperature is +20...+28 °C.

In the north of the country (from Hanoi to seaside resort Halong) winter and summer seasons are more clearly defined than in the south. Winter, cool and wet, lasts from November to February, with constant drizzling rain "fung" in February and March. The summer season begins abruptly in May: high humidity, temperatures up to +40 °C.

Visa and customs

Russian citizens arriving in Vietnam for up to 15 days do not require a visa, provided that during this time they do not leave the country, and on the island of Phu Quoc you can vacation without a visa for up to 30 days. But in both cases, it is worth taking out a health insurance policy in advance for the entire duration of the trip.

How to get to Vietnam

From St. Petersburg you can get to Vietnam only with a transfer in Moscow, Europe or Asia, but from Vladivostok to Hanoi you can fly directly with Vladivostok Air (1 flight every 2 weeks).

Two low-cost airlines fly from China, Laos and Cambodia to Vietnam at once - Air Asia and VietJet Air.

Two daily trains run between China and Vietnam: Beijing - Hanoi (from 304 USD, travel time - 37 hours) and Nanning - Hanoi (from 37 USD in a double compartment, travel time - 11.5 hours). Both trains leave China in the evening and arrive in Hanoi in the morning. Prices on the page are as of August 2018.

Transport

Internal flights are ideal for moving between cities scattered across Vietnam. Prices are low, with tickets starting from VND 900,000. You can also travel by train, they are quite convenient. It takes about 30 hours to get from Ho Chi Minh City to Hanoi, during which time the whole country will fly past your windows. Buses are the most a budget option trips around Vietnam, but it is better to use them over short distances, otherwise you will waste too much time.

Car and moped rental in Vietnam

Those accustomed to renting a car in distant countries should think about it - traffic in Vietnam it is poorly organized, the rules are rarely followed, and getting lost in signs and junctions is a piece of cake. In addition, to drive independently, you will have to obtain a local driver's license, and they are issued only if you have a visa for 3 months or more. The solution may be to rent a car with a local driver.

But you don’t need a license to rent a bicycle or moped. But this option is suitable for small resorts with low traffic; it’s better not to mention riding a moped around Da Nang or Ho Chi Minh City without decent driving skills in Southeast Asia.

  • What documents are required to rent a car in Vietnam?

Communication and Wi-Fi

On mobile communications In Vietnam, tourists rarely complain. It is inexpensive and covers almost the entire country, including small towns and villages. Local calls cost from 1,700 VND per minute, a nice bonus - there is no roaming in Vietnam, you can use one SIM card in any city, a call to Russia will cost from 3,000 VND per minute.

Everything is fine in Vietnam and with the Internet, especially in major cities. Mobile Internet is often faster and more convenient than hotel Wi-Fi, but it must be connected separately; details are on the SIM card packaging. The speed and tariffs of the operators are approximately the same, which eliminates the pain of choice. Free Wi-Fi is available in almost all hotels and restaurants.

Vietnam hotels

In the major cities of Vietnam, the choice of hotels is very diverse - from mini-hotels to luxury establishments. Their service, in general, is at the average European level. Type of meals - breakfast (most) or half board; the all-inclusive system is practically never found here. Buffet extremely diverse. All rooms from 3 to 5 stars are equipped with air conditioning, TV with satellite channels and a telephone; more expensive options also include bathrobes, a hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities, safes and minibars.

Accommodation prices remain at approximately the same level throughout the year. A night in a luxury hotel in Hanoi will cost from 1,850,000 VND per day for a double room, in a four-star hotel - from 740,000 VND, in a good three-room apartment - from 200,000 VND, and an overnight stay in a hostel will cost from 80,000 VND per day per person.

Mains voltage 220 V, frequency 50 Hz. Plugs generally have flat connectors. The rooms in many hotels are equipped with universal sockets, which will accept plugs of almost any configuration. If necessary, the hotel staff will find the required adapter.

Money

The country's currency is the Vietnamese dong (VND), 1 dong is divided into 10 hao or 100 sou. Current rate: 1000 VND = 2.82 RUB (1 USD = 23204.15 VND, 1 EUR = 26307.67 VND).

It is better to travel to Vietnam with dollars and euros; the dollar exchange rate is slightly more favorable, but for small amounts the difference is insignificant. Rubles are rarely accepted and little is given for them. Currency can be exchanged in banks, exchange offices, jewelry stores, travel agency offices, markets and even at airports - the rate is approximately the same everywhere, there are practically no extortionate markups. But street money changers can deceive and instead of 100,000 VND give out 10,000 VND in the hope that the tourist will not notice the difference.

Note to the paranoid: Vietnamese dong bills are made of thin plastic, it hardly wrinkles and is not afraid of sea water. You can safely swim with a “cutlet” in the secret pocket of your swimming trunks.

How to avoid problems

Vietnam is one of the most safe places in Asia, but even here you should be wary of pickpockets and scammers. The latter can be found in a variety of places - a fraudster may be an officer at the border demanding money for a free visa, an unfortunate pedestrian who suddenly materializes under the wheels of a bike with a tourist at the wheel, unscrupulous hoteliers and sellers.

As for everyday life, you should not drink tap water, it is better not to order drinks with ice in small cafes, not to indulge in unusual food and fruits at the beginning of the trip, and to control yourself in the presence of alcohol.

What other troubles can happen in Vietnam, how not to turn your body into a complete crimson fire, where to change money and buy a SIM card, how not to lose the favor of the local residents, and also where to run and call in case of trouble, is described in the article “How avoid problems in Vietnam."

Legends and stories of Vietnam

There you are short excursion into the tangled history of the Vietnamese people. More than three thousand years BC, the dragon king Lac Long Quan ruled the lands of what is now Vietnam. Once, puzzled by the continuation of the family, he decided to ask the fairy bird Au Ko for his hand in marriage. The beauty was not slow to accept the offer and, on time, gave birth... a bag in which 100 eggs were found, and from each came one heir-progenitor of 100 Vietnamese families. Whether the lady hatched the offspring or placed the offspring in an incubator - history is silent, but since then every self-respecting Vietnamese speaks of himself as “the child of the dragon, the grandson of the gods.” The end of the story is very modern: after some time the couple separated - Lac Long Quan chopped off half of their sons and went to sea with them, and Au Ko took the remaining fifty and went to live in the mountains. As Lev Nikolaevich correctly noted about happy and unhappy families!

To understand the secret of Vietnam's charm, look at any house in a small Vietnamese town. Here it stands, with a narrow, literally 3-4 meters, facade, stretched away from the road (the fact is that families here are allocated not an area for houses, but square footage along the street, and a very small one), two- or three-story. The façade is very elegant, even, perhaps, somewhat motley; the double doors span its full width and are hospitably open. Above the entrance, evoking vague memories of the “Twentieth Congress of the CPSU,” flaunts a red flag with a gold star in the center. On the floor above there is a small altar with a dark bronze Buddha dozing, surrounded by smoking incense. And at the very top, on a tiny balcony, entwined with something with small pink flowers, the marble-white Virgin Mary humbly bows her head.
